Job 4

1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?

3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.

12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.

13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,

14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.

15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:

16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,

17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?

20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.

21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.

  1. 5But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged;
it strikes you, and you are dismayed.

God has blessed Job so much and brought him through so much. His sons and daughters were prosperous because of him. After feasts he took the time to prepare and perform offerings for his family. How can he ever doubt God now and how could we? He is built up to be such a strong man of God in his relationship. Now that destruction has come he cannot turn his back on God now. God is the one who gave him all he had. When he endures the test he will be blessed double for his faithfulness. We too, will be blessed for standing firm even in the face of turmoil.

  2. When our emotion’s are affecting our conviction’s, it is good to have a good friend to remind us that God is still in control.

  3. 4Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

  4. 1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?

3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees

Sometimes when we are at our weakest point, we need someone to help encourage us, we should keep ourselves encouraged, this is true, but sometimes you need a friend to remind you to pray and dont be in a pity pit! Thank you Jesus for Sisters and Brothers! Church family!

  5. 3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

God told satan that there were no more righteous than Job. This part of the chapter describes part of what kind of man he was. He helped many people when they were down. He encouraged many people when they fell. IF we are made in the image of God, we are called to lift one another up and be a helping hand to them.

  6. 7. Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

    Psalm 37:23-25
    23. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

    24. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

    25. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

  7. THE LEADESHIP CHALLENGE – RESPONDING IN TIMES OF DISTRESS

3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

It is inspiring, gratifying and encouraging to offer encouragement and council to those in need of inspiration. However, the challenge is even greater when we are the individual that is suffering.

The friend of Job, Eliphaz offers the proverbs of life to him along with a reminder that he had also instructed many and strengthened many. It is incredibly amazing how quickly our words of inspiration become mute and distant in our own seasons of distress.

My prayer today is that everyone will remember, JESUS is the WAY, TRUTH and LIFE and he will make a way for us, when there seems to be no way to be made. May the eternal GOD of Glory return the kind and encouraging words that we have spoken to others to us in time of trouble.

    Merry Christmas Eve

  8. 6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

  9. AMP – “If we dare to converse with you, will you be impatient [or offended]?
But who can restrain himself from speaking?
3 “Behold, you have admonished and instructed many,
And you have strengthened weak hands.
4 “Your words have helped the one who was stumbling to stand,
And you have strengthened feeble knees.
    5 “But now [a]adversity comes upon you, and you are impatient and intolerant;
It touches you, and you are horrified.
6 “Is not your fear of God your confidence,
And [is not] the integrity and uprightness of your ways your hope?

Sometimes it’s hard to eat our own words. We tell others how they need to respond during hard times but when times fall upon us, we, as Job, felt abandoned and alone.

We must prepare ourselves mentally and spiritually that when things don’t go our way and troubles come that we don’t dwell on those things, but look to the Lord the author and finisher of our faith and trust that He is working all things out for our good.

  10. iLove to Grow in the Word

    The Word Gives Strength
3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

Notice that Job’s friend spoke of the power of the spoken word that Job once had while he helped the weary. There is life and death in the tongue. Imagine if Job’s word had that much power, how much more power does the Word of God hold? That’s the reason the blog is so important along with each service that is hosted at The Pentecostals of Fort Worth. It is the Word of God that strengthens the weak.

  11. 17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

We all need to stop and think how we got to where we are now. The only reason we have made it this far is Because of Jesus. We need to praise him for our blessings rather than thinking it was us that made it.

  12. What will our holiday conversations be about?

“…You yourself have … spoken words that clarify, encouraged those who were about to quit. Your words have put stumbling people on their feet, put fresh hope in people about to collapse.
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭4:2-3MSG‬‬

It is so easy to get caught up in family bickering and squabbles over the holidays. Past hurts may surface or new battles may be waged. It is our choice whether or not to engage in such behavior. Lets keep a few things in mind.

Look for and avoid touchy subjects. Politics will likely be a very touchy subject this year. Maybe the past wont leave you alone. Maybe you and your brother/cousins may still be fighting over Legos from 10-20 years ago. Or perhaps we still cringe from all the years where our Mom used to criticize our weight.

Plan for an escape route. Often, just knowing that we are going to take a walk by ourself at a certain time, call a friend to have a laugh or give ourselves a half hour with a novel, knitting needles, or a game of catch with our nieces/nephews in the fresh air is enough to help release tension.

Maybe our expectations are too high.
Maybe our over-reliance on a schedule makes our own us feel too overwhelmed when the dinner rolls didn’t heat up as expected. Things will not be perfect, nor should they be. Your family will do some annoying things—they are human. The meal, schedule, travel or “vacation” vibe may be off from what we imagine, but it’s important that we don’t view the whole thing through a pass/fail. Look for the little moments that can become memories hold onto, or how the pitfalls can become funny stories to be shared later.

  13. ““‘How can mere mortals be more righteous than God? How can humans be purer than their Creator? Why, God doesn’t even trust his own servants, doesn’t even cheer his angels, So how much less these bodies composed of mud, fragile as moths? These bodies of ours are here today and gone tomorrow, and no one even notices—gone without a trace. When the tent stakes are ripped up, the tent collapses— we die and are never the wiser for having lived.’””
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭4:17-21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

The human life is so fragile. Deceit sets in when we feel we are untouchable and the ruler of our lives. The truth is we are not untouchable and we have a ruler in our lives. The way we live our lives is what decides who can touch us and who rules us. The choice is our today. Today is the day of salvation…. who will you choose?

““If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship GOD, then choose a god you’d rather serve—and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you’re now living. As for me and my family, we’ll worship GOD.””
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭24:15‬ ‭MSG‬‬

  14. Job 4:3-4
    3) Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
    4) Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

Isaiah 35:3 (NLT) says, “With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees.”

Job was a perfect and upright man. He instructed, strengthened, and upheld people. He was an encourager.

Let us be an encourager like Job. Let us pray for one another, encourage each other, lift each other up, and strengthen each other in the Lord.

  15. Proverbs 24:
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

This proverb ties in with this chapter of Job-even though a man may be just, he can fall but through God, will rise up again. Be patient with yourself as you grow in God and go through the different seasons of life. Keep holding onto the hand of the Lord and he will see you through it all.

  16. 4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

    How can job doubt god
Look what all god has done people has seen and heard. What all god has done you have lifted up people by your good words you are a leader of christ . so why now do you doubt god have you forgot god is a heal

It’s important for us to stay strong during the hard time and not doubt god because as leader we are leading and the people we are leading are keep a close eye on us

  17. 4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
there is power in words. as a kid we used to say “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me me”. The truth of the matter is that’s simply not true words can hurt words can destroy but words can also encourage you can uplift those who are weak it can give strength to those who are down and God’s word can even save a soul. I think God today for the Power of Words and I thank Him for the power of the word of God.

  18. 17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

We need to stop and reflect the only reason we have made it this far is because of Jesus not because of ourselves. We should be cautious at what we speak out of our mouths not speaking cursing but speaak blessing. Pray for others. Often times when in ministry it comes to this momnt of distress that some lock up because of the unwillingness to surrender. Be careful at all times what you do.

  19. 17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

We need to stop and reflect the only reason we have made it this far is because of Jesus not because of ourselves. We should be cautious at what we speak out of our mouths not speaking cursing but speaak blessing. Pray for others. Often times when in ministry it comes to this momnt of distress that some lock up because of the unwillingness to surrender. Be careful at all times what you do.

  20. 11 The strong lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.

As leaders if we don’t eat the bread (the Word) we will fall and all the ones that are following us will fall apart and be scattered. As leaders, someone is always watching us and watching what we do and don’t do. Lets have that daily relationship with the Lord and eat His Word daily so we shall not perish.

  21. Job had to face some trials in order to put into practice what he had been instructing all along. Easier spoken then done but God allows us to walk through the trials so that we too not on,y will speak it but now can say I have lived it and He has been with me each step of the way.

  22. Even though Jobs friend is trying to encourage him. Its hard to hear it because of the pain. I have been hear and modt of the time, it takes more than one person to tell me the same thing. God knows who to send and when to send them. We should encourage each other

  23. A reminder of mortality.

19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?

20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.

We are only here for a short time. We have to remind ourselves that we cannot answer eternal questions with temporal answers. When something crazy or seemingly unexplainable is going on in your life the first questions should not be natural questions. We should pray and ask God what he’s trying to teach me in this. Now if you spent all your money going to the mall and you can’t pay your light bill that’s a different deal, you have to answer that one with natural answers but When someone dies unexpectedly you cannot answer that. You may never get some of those answers. Trusting in God is tested when you don’t have all the answers

  24. 14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.

Lean and trust in God no matter what you go through. God know what he is doing and be careful who you listen too not every advice that is given is right for you. Stay in the word of God, fast and pray, seek direction from the man of God.

  25. 15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:

16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,

17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

  26. There are things that we will have to face that we may not understand. We must remember that God is watching over us and is able to bring us us through every test that comes our way.

  27. 7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

In times of distress it’s hard to swollen the words of this verse. Yet, sometimes the truth hurts. Just because your going through does not mean God has abandoned you. He reigns on the just and unjust and we must learn to trust Him. Yes, I said trust! Trust that He knows what he’s doing and look to find out how He’s going to get the Glory out of your situation.

  28. Job 4:21 (MSG)
21 When the tent stakes are ripped up, the tent collapses—
we die and are never the wiser for having lived.’

    Check your sources

This vision from Eliphaz makes God seem like a spooky, creepy, and dark God. Yet we know the word tells us that God is light and there is no darkness in him. How can he appear dark, and scary? It wasn’t God.

So we can flip what he says around and find comfort.

God does trust his servants and cheers his own angels. We know that Pastor is the angel of the church and I believe that God is cheering him on to reach this city.

Always check the whisper in the night with the word on the page.

  29. “Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭4:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭4:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Some times those that help so much to other people, are falling apart. Sometimes their the ones that are falling apart.

  30. But now when trouble strikes, you lose heart. You are terrified when it touches you. Doesn’t your reverence for God give you confidence? Doesn’t your life of integrity give you hope?
    Job 4:5‭-‬6 NLT

We should practice what we preach for we are our greatest testimony.

  31. 3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

No one is perfect. Keep your eyes on God and help those who are weary and are in need.

  32. Verse 4 AMP “Your words have helped the one who was stumbling to stand, And you have strengthened feeble knees.” Same verse NLT “Your words have supported those who were falling; you encouraged those with shaky knees.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”

  33. 6 Doesn’t your reverence for God give you confidence? Doesn’t your life of integrity give you hope? (NLT)

Well doesn’t it?! If not, I don’t know anything in this world that could then help and be of such encouragement.

  34. 15 A spirit swept past my face, and my hair stood on end.

You can always feel when danger is approaching, something alerts you to be careful. When evil approaches your holy spirit will warn you, and it seems like your hairs on your arms raise up as a sensing mechanism. We should be on guard at all times, and listen to our senses and leave.
