Job 18

1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

2 How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?

4 He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?

5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

7 The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

8 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.

9 The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.

10 The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

11 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

12 His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.

13 It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.

14 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.

15 It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

16 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.

17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

19 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

  1. Listen to Gods voice. When you get out from under his covering, you get in a very dangerous place. Out from uner Gods covering you have little chance of hearing his voice.

  2. Please Lord Use Us For Your Purpose.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

Lord I pray today for the lost of this city. There is wicked everywhere I turn , lead me to the ones who do not know You. To those who are searching for a way out of their wickedness. Let light shine into their darkness. Let peace walk right into the midst of their chaos. Time is too short and I must be about the Father’s business. Show me daily Lord, I come humbly before you wanting only your will for each day. I fall short, I fail You in so many ways. Keep my life and my heart and attitude in your ways so that I may lead someone to you today.

  3. This chapter in Job is captioned “How Long Will You Talk?” Verse 2 in the NLT says “How long before you stop talking? Speak sense if you want us to answer!” We must remember that arguing is not what we are to do but remember 2 Timothy 2:22-26 MSG “Run away from infantile indulgence. Run after mature righteousness—faith, love, peace—joining those who are in honest and serious prayer before God. Refuse to get involved in inane discussions; they always end up in fights. God’s servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the Devil’s trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.”

  4. 4 You may tear out your hair in anger, but will that destroy the earth? Will it make the rocks tremble? (NLT)

No! So why stress when you serve the almighty God?!

  5. Job 18:16
Talking about the wicked – “His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.”

    Ps. 92:12-14
    12) The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
    13) Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.
    14) They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.

Flourish means to grow or develop in a healthy and vigorous way. (grow, prosper, increase, multiply)

Be Planted in the LORD and Flourish.
    GrOw!

  6. 4 You may tear out your hair in anger, but will that destroy the earth? Will it make the rocks tremble? (NLT)
You only have so much you can do and only so much power to control things in your life . Our anger cannot destroy the earth so why sweat the small stuff? Let us give it over to God and let him control our future. ..

  7. Job 18:17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

Proverbs 10:7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

Psalm 34:16 The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

  8. 16 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.
17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.
18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

There will be no remembrance of the wicked, yet with God, we have our names written/recorded in the Lambs Book of Life!
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” Deut. 30:19
This is our prayer for this region & for our loved ones.

  9. Bidad as insensitive to Job fillings is angrey that Job considers the three friends advice stupid. He launches a diatribe in whivh he pitchers the terrifying fate of the wicked.

  10. “How long before you stop talking? Speak sense if you want us to answer! It seems to me that at this point Job should be asking this question to his friend. This is what in my ears I hear….Blah, blah, blah. I would rather be left alone.

They will say, ‘This was the home of a wicked person, the place of one who rejected God.’” (‭Job‬ ‭18‬:‭2, 21‬ NLT) my thought ️here would be, what do I have to do with any of this?
If this is place where I am at, then I know it must/should bring me closer to GOD and allow Him to mold me to become the person He desires of me. Iit is everyday that I need to shut my world around me out, and fully be immersed in His presence.

  11. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. Good always triumphs over evil. The wickedness of this world will only burn for so long before that spark is put out. It’s so important for us to check our thoughts and actions daily. How are we pleasing our God daily? What are we doing for his kingdom? Are we doing enough? Are we truly using our time talent and treasure for him? Or are we robbing him by not giving enough of ourselves? We are God’s children and he wants full custody, not just on weekends! How, Lord, can I give 100% of myself to you? Shred me of this willful flesh and help me to be a more willing servant. In Jesus name.

  12. Job 18:1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied, When will you end these speeches? Be sensible and 5hen we can talk. Why are we regarded as cattle and considered stupid in your sight? You who tear yourself to pieces in your anger is the earth to be abandoned for your sake? Or must the rocks moved from their place?

In his second speech Bildad decides he cannot resonance with Job so he seeks to scare him instead reciting all the traps that are in place to ensnare the wicked. He considers Job one who will die the death of the wicked. Bildad like his predecessor ruthlessly attacked Job in his second speech by telling Job to stop complaining and to become sensible. When we see a bother or sister down let’s speak words of encouragement and pray for them.

  13. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God. j.soliz

  14. 19 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

Una vida vacía sin desendiebtes muerte y asolacion si sucesores aquien no conoce a nuestro SEÑOR JESÚS y quien no hace su voluntad

  15. 18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

19 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

  16. Sometimes we can get so caught in our problems that god is not seen Christian everything we do the world is watching

  17. 1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

2 How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?

We must take an account for when ever we have a disagreement with someone about anything. No matter how righteous it is or how many facts are produced or even how wrong they are, some people will not listen. We must learn to not advocate this characteristic in ourselves and be haughty to believe that we are right and always be willing to listen. And that some people will not listen or heed anything you say regardless of what evidence shows, too often it is easy to be discouraged when one opposes us and we are right and show it in love, and it isn’t received. Soemtimes we have to dust it off our feet and walk on and pray

  18. Wow what a word of confirmation. Do what you can and give it all to God. When we are covered by Gods Grace, situations will still happen but God has our back. No need to get angry, trust that God will turn it around for your good and for His Glory

  19. MSG 18:1 “How monotonous these word games are getting!
Get serious! We need to get down to business.

Some people love to play word games. They use their mouth to bring darkness to any situation, or to make you think they are something they are not.

After reading this chapter we see there is no hope for the wicked/evil. We must keep the light of His spirit ever shining in our heart and be conscious of the wicked/evil around us and not let it into our heart.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

  20. THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE IN THE WORLD

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

Verses 5-20 describe the life without GOD. Dark, empty, hopeless days of darkness and nights of fear, lonely and despised.

I choose to GO with JESUS.

The apostle Paul continued this mindset and approach to relationship with GOD.

    Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Our number 1 and greatest goal in life is to KNOW JESUS. Lets GO!

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  21. iLove to Go Blog

    1Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
2“How long before you stop talking?
Speak sense if you want us to answer!
3Do you think we are mere animals?
Do you think we are stupid?

Oh my, as I read this I couldn’t believe this guy rebuked Job…I guess I had never caught it before. Years of reading Job and now I see today how bad of rebuke his friends laid on his head. We must be very careful not to rebuke folks and speak a word to them when we dont know the whole story. We need to comfort those who are weary.

  22. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

You can live in the place of wickedness all you want but sooner or later that light inside will burn out and you won’t know where to turn. Choose the place of righteousness and save yourself from eternity in hell.

  23. His roots dry up below and his branches wither above. He has no offspring or descendants among his people, no survivor where once he lived.
    Job 18:16‭, ‬19 NIV

When we let our roots dry up there is no growth and no life and if there is no life there is no offspring. No offspring there is no leadership and no church and the kingdom of God do not advance. We need to be rooted in Him and in His Word.

  24. Job 16 Jesus pleasant don’t my roots dry up. There a purpose for me to pray and help lost and broken hearted people.please show me Jesus.

  25. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
Where does my light shine? Do not conform to the thoughts and provocations of the enemy. Do not be tempted by friends and family into doing things that are not right in God’s eyes. I don’t want my life to be put out from heaven because I followed the wrong path. Make my way to you with bumps and bruises so I can lean on and learn from you.
Bishop Chavis said that you don’t want a straight path but one with hills, valleys, and winding turns. You need to be tested. You need to know you can conquer your mountain.
I welcome the tests and the mountains and valleys. As I trudge up the mountain, let my lantern shine for all the world to see. Let me be seen by my friends and family for strength when they have none.

  26. 16 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.

Keep your roots alive. Make sure that when you are grounded in the word of God and in His ways that you keep your roots alive. This is the most important aspect of growing. Yes you must keep yourself pruned and fruitful. But it all comes down to the roots. If you are not growing nor growing fruit. You must look at your roots. Are they getting enough water and air. Yes even your roots need air and dirt. To stay grounded. To GrOw we must keep our roots secure and healthy.

  27. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

We curse ourselves when we don’t follow the commandments of the Lord.

  28. 4 He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

7 The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
Gods gonna allow things to happen even when we dont understand why.
In the book of Matthew it talks about the rain falling on the just and the unjust.
With God on our sides we have to realize there IS a reason these things happen. Those are the things that you remember, the thorns you become thankful for..

  29. It is important that we know who God is. Too many people today do not know who he truly is. Knowing the truth will make you free.

  30. 20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

  31. 7 The vigor of his step is weakened;
his own schemes throw him Down (NIV)

As men and women of God, we do not have to worry about the wicked men around us. For one day their own schemes will bring them down. Be faithful and steadfast and allow God to exhaust you above your haters.

  32. Job 18:21 (MSG)
21 ‘Oh no! So this is what happens to perverse people.
This is how the God-ignorant end up!'”

Recently I have watched science claims versus what the Bible says. Part of me wants to get upset and give them the what for. “How dare they call my Jesus a liar!”

Yet a realization begins to sink in. These men are lost and without God. They proclaim lies against his word and if they do not repent, their eternity is sealed by destruction.

We mustn’t ever allow our passionate opinions shade our burden for the lost. As Jesus put it “forgive them Father, they know not what they do.”

  33. 3Why are we regarded as cattle
and considered stupid in your sight?
    NIV

It’s not that Job is trying to belittle his friends but tell them that he is more aware of his righteousness than anyone else. When we have a close relationship with God we can rest assured that God will be our witness and judge. We know who we are and God does too. Bildad doesn’t understand the relationship Job has with God. Bildad must feel insulted that Job isn’t taking his advice and is making this statement. Great peace have they that love his law and nothing shall offend them. Bildad is right about how an ignorant and spiritually blind man falls in his folly.

  34. He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?(Job 18:4 KJV)

Anger with God can ruin a person because he is turning away from him. Bildad may be blind to the fact that the trial Job is going trough is allowed by God, but he is right that a person that rebels will be taken out of his place.

  35. What can I say about this chapter except that I know that feeling all to well. To live in the darkness; the pit and not hear the word of God. I’m learning that it is through the grace of Jesus that I have been brought out of the darkness and into the light. I never plan to return to that pit. I choose God and life…….Thank you Jesus…..Amen!!!!

20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

  36. 2 How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?

Discouragement is a killer! Sometimes its hard to talk to others about situations, sometimes people automatically only see it one way, and their advice, or council is more harmful than helpful! I choose Jesus as my counsel, I may be wrong, I dont know, but if God doesn’t nudge me in the direction of another human, all I can do is pray! HELP ME LORD!

  37. We would be wise not to judge our friends and speak words of encouragement to them. We that are reading this scripture thousands of years later know that Job was innocent of all these accusations. We can’t get involved in why something is happening to someone rather hold them up in prayer and speak positive words to them.

  38. 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

It’s not of God if the enemy creeps into your lives. God is with us we just need to seek him and trust him with all of our hearts and soul. If you’re hurting because your friends turned their back on you rest assured that God hasn’t , he’s faithful even when your feeling lost seek him.

  39. They will say, ‘This was the home of a wicked person, the place of one who rejected God.’”
    Job 18:21 NLT

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
    John 1:1 NKJV

What would the place of one who rejected God looks like? We are shown by the scriptures that He is the Word. Anyone who refuses to accept and obey the Word of God is rejecting him.
When we reject the word we are rejecting God.

  40. Olivia- your ignorant if you don’t do anything to help God or do anything for God.

Joseph-if you don’t know God, what is the meaning of you?

Michael-if your wicked and ignorant and you don’t know God then there is no purpose for you at all.

    Nicole-
““Here’s the rule: The light of the wicked is put out. Their flame dies down and is extinguished. Their house goes dark— every lamp in the place goes out. Their strong strides weaken, falter; they stumble into their own traps. They get all tangled up in their own red tape, Their feet are grabbed and caught, their necks in a noose. They trip on ropes they’ve hidden, and fall into pits they’ve dug themselves. Terrors come at them from all sides. They run helter-skelter. The hungry grave is ready to gobble them up for supper, To lay them out for a gourmet meal, a treat for ravenous Death. They are snatched from their home sweet home and marched straight to the death house. Their lives go up in smoke; acid rain soaks their ruins. Their roots rot and their branches wither. They’ll never again be remembered— nameless in unmarked graves. They are plunged from light into darkness, banished from the world. And they leave empty-handed—not one single child— nothing to show for their life on this earth. Westerners are aghast at their fate, easterners are horrified: ‘Oh no! So this is what happens to perverse people. This is how the God-ignorant end up!’””
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭18:5-21‬ ‭MSG

Job’s friend wouldn’t do well today. He says things that sound like they would make sense, but they are not true. Wicked people have good things. Wicked people have families too. You can’t just think that because they are wicked horrible thins will happen to them.

Job’s friends assumed that his problem was because he didn’t know God. It is safe to look at this example and say, “I know I’m not supposed to act like this friend.” We are not supposed to judge others. Job’s friend judged him by his situations and said it was because Job didn’t know God. In fact in his case the exact opposite is true. Job knows God and God know Job. That is why allowed him to go through this test. That is why God suggested him to satan.

“And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  41. 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

Thank you Lord for letting me know you. Thank you for choosing me!!! Thank you for renewing me, fixing my marriage, my family, my life, and pulling me out of the pits of hell. Thank you Lord!!! I was baptized in May 2008 but didn’t truly know who you were till 3 years ago. Thank you Jesus for sending us here. This is truly the place where you have mold me and showed me so much. I am your daughter and I am standing on your promises and the devil is under my feet!!!

  42. Job 18:21 Surely such is the dwelling of an evil man; such is the place of one who does not know God.”

Talk about friends that don’t really know you. The bible affirms how righteous Job was and how there was no one like him inn all the earth. He was like what we would call, Gods pride and joy.

It shows that the only one who really knows us deeply on the inside is God. Most of all of our friends see the book cover and never take the time to read the whole book.

This is demonstrated by how Bildad accused him of being a wicked man.

  43. 21 They will say, ‘This was the home of a wicked person, the place of one who rejected God.’

Now Bildad is calling Job a wicked person. His friends think they are wiser and say they recognize what is happening to Job. Instead of encouraging words, they accuse him of wickedness. Know your friends who will speak positively about you….

  44. Will we be remembered?

17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

Pastor has stated many times he does not want his name on the sign; it is not his church it is God’s church. I believe this is a might bold statement and way out of the norm for most pastors today. I am not calling anyone out or pointing fingers but in a day where people are starving for recognition our Pastor is giving the glory to God. It seems such a simple concept but out of the norm in our day and time. Recently on a business trip to San Antonio my hotel was across the street from a mega church. Out on the curb was the name of the church followed by “Pastor …” Of course, they had a massive billboard as well screaming at everyone that drove by.

The building at 10164 Westpoint Blvd. is not there to proclaim Pastor Michael Watts was here. It is not there for any of us to make that claim either. Rather, let’s build a reputation of friendliness, caring and love towards our neighbors and guests. Let’s strive that this is how we are remembered; not only as a church but individually.
