Psalm 9

1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.

5 Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

6 O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.

7 But the Lord shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.

8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

9 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

12 When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.

13 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

14 That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.

15 The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

16 The Lord is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.

19 Arise, O Lord; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight.

20 Put them in fear, O Lord: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.

  1. THIS IS HOW WE GO

1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

Life is a vapor, a simple season in comparison to eternity. We are called to serve in the Kingdom of GOD. Service in the Kingdom of GOD is very important to GO with HIS GOSPEL.

The psalmist shares a very productive principal here in “whole hearted praise”. Daily we should evaluate the level of Praise that we offer to JESUS. Our lives should show all HIS marvelous works, that we will be glad and rejoice at all times.

Half hearted praise is usually accompanied by complaints and distractions. A whole hearted praise to GOD will reveal the true condition of our heart and the level of our FAITH.

  2. MSG 9-10 God’s a safe-house for the battered,
    a sanctuary during bad times.
    The moment you arrive, you relax;
    you’re never sorry you knocked.

I am truly thankful that the Lord is a safe place to run and tell all our thoughts and cares. He doesn’t go and tell someone else, He takes to heart what we say and answers in His perfect time. We will never be rejected to running to Him. He is always there with open arms waiting on us…..

  3. 11 Sing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

There is something about having a a praise on the inside. Praise can bring you through your troubles. The devil realized how powerful our praise is a long time ago. This is why he does whatever he can to prevent us from praising God. Your praise will be bring down strongholds and defeat the enemy.

  4. Psalm 9:2I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

Psalm 104:34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.

  5. 1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

When we live our lives as praiser’s we can’t help but to show His good works. For regardless of the atmosphere around them praiser’s will praise. The change their atmosphere and refuse to allow the atmosphere change them.

  6. Verses 1-2 MSG “I’m thanking you, God, from a full heart, I’m writing the
book on your wonders. I’m whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy; I’m singing your song, High God.” These verses reminded me of the song that we sing called “Because of You”:

Every time I lift my hands it’s because of You.
Every time I lift my voice it’s because of You.
Every time I give You praise it’s because of You.
Every time I bless your name it’s because of You.

It’s because of You that I sing.
It’s because of You that I pray.
It’s because of You that I worship and bow down to Your name everyday.
It’s because of You that I dance.
It’s because of You that I shout.
It’s because of You that I leap for joy with a heart that has no doubt.

This also made me recall something that my nephew’s little girl said after going to church “I like going to church because it makes my heart sing”! The beautiful innocent words of a child tell the true story!

  9. 9 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

You know what I love? You don’t have to have it all together. You just have to seek Him and trust Him. Know His name! Know who He is!

  10. 13 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

14 That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.

15 The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

  12. 10. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

He has never forsaken anyone that seeks Him…and never will.

    Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

  13. I will praise the Lord with my entire heart and gvie God all the glory for all the great things he does through me. 12 When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.

His hand is not short that it cannot reach us and his ear that they cannot hear USM the Lord is with us during our times of struggles and he surely hears our cry

  15. “I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭9:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

With a Whole Heart! There is nothing they can take the place of a whole hearted relationship. It is a relationship with nothing hidden. Everything is exposed every small intimate thought and action. We’re both become transparent. If we want to learn the hidden things of God we must remember to reveal every hidden thing in our lives to Him.

  16. 1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!

Psalms 9:12 KJV  When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.

God does not forget the humble.
    Humble
    ‛ânâv    ‛ânâyv
    aw-nawv’, aw-nawv’
The second form is by intermixture with H6041; from H6031; depressed (figuratively), in mind (gentle) or circumstances (needy, especially saintly): – humble, lowly, meek, poor

Now, if you read the definition of humble above, you might at first think that God only hears the depressed…lol, no its not the depressed pity party that some of us might think about. Notice the definition says “depressed figuratively”. This infers to the fact that one is not “high minded”. We must not think of ourselves “higher” than we ought to think. God does not hear those who are high, even though those who are high think they hear God… Boom, busted that bubble.

  22. 10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

We Pentecostals are people of the name. we know who to trust, we know who is the one true God. when we put our trust in him he promised us in the New Testament that he would never leave us or forsake us he’s got our back! And he does not ignore those who seek him. The Bible says that he resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. if we allow ourselves to come humbly before him he will show us grace and mercy and not forsake us.

  23. It’s not my fault

15 The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made:

It is easy to blame others for the circumstances we find ourselves in. Statements such as I would not have cheated on my spouse had they loved me more. I would not have gotten drunk after work if the boss had not blamed me for the error within the report. I would not have gotten high had my old college roommate not needed a place to crash for a few weeks until they were able to find a job. The police are targeted me for speeding tickets; with all the vehicles on the road why am I the only one being pulled over.

As you may have noticed there is one common denominator amongst all these examples; “I”, “me”, “mine”. The tendency to always blame someone else for one’s own shortcomings is becoming a normal way life. In our current society, where this trait has been taken to new heights of absurdity, the criminal is never guilty. Rather, it is society’s fault that criminals have to behave as they do.

What a wonderful world we live in where there’s always someone else to blame for what we’ve done or become. Even better; they should be obligated to compensate us for our trouble. We’re overweight and McDonalds is at fault. We’ve bought a house or vehicle we can’t afford and the government should help us out. When did we become such victims at the mercy of the world around us? Is there nothing we can truly own anymore when it comes to ourselves?

It’s easy to sleep at night snuggled in our self-created blanket of blamelessness. Just imagine what we could actually become if everyone else wasn’t holding us back. Oh woe is me. I’m going back to bed.

  24. 10 Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Amen! A promise that is guaranteed, even if we might feel like were drowning God will NEVER forsake us!!! In Him I completely trust because He is not a liar!

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Matt 7:7

So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Deut 31:6

Amen! ITS A PROMISE!!! The devil is under my feet!!!

  25. Psalms 9:18 (KJV Strong’s)
18 For the needy shall not alway be forgotten:
the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.

God cares for the plight of the poor; and the needy. He cares for the destitute and the down. That is why he uses the church to help them. We are his hands and feet on this earth. Doing milk and bread is right after God’s own heart. It is us being his body to fulfill his desires to help those that are without.

What a tremendous blessing that comes when we give like this! We literally are displaying this part of God’s character to the world.

Let you light so shine among men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

  26. God Already Knew

The Lord knew there would be days of oppression. We will see in the life of David his many times of ups and downs and how beautiful to know God made provision to be a refuge for us in these moments of life.
The next two verses declare how we can find that refuge, through trust and singing praises to our Lord. Yes He already knew the paths we would walk and He made a way for us! Let’s sing praises to our God!

  27. Vs1
I will praise the O Lord withy my whole heart I will show forth all thy marvelous works
I will praise the O Lord
Thanks to Pastors Watts preaching and teaching no matter what your going through you have to Praise The Lord. During these hurtful times for my family and I that’s just what I am doing Prasing The Lord .

Thank you so much Pastor and Sis Watts and our church family for all your doing I am totally blown away.
    Praise God!!!!!!!!!!

  28. 20 Put them in fear, O Lord: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.

Davids concludes this chapter, asking God to humble the pride! Stir us up! Help us realize that we are truly nothing without Him!

  29. 7 But the Lord shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.

8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

Do not weary in well doing. The lord will judge the world in righteousness, so continue to be righteous. Don’t give in to be more like the world, we are set apart.

  30. Psalms 9:9-10
    9) The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
    10) And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Thank You JESUS that You are my Refuge. I put my Trust in You. Thank You JESUS that You have not forsaken me.

  31. 1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

  32. 9 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

When we are in troubled times, we can seek him and know that he does hear and see our every need. We must know him and his name. Jesus! No greater name, no sweeter name I know. He is our shield, buckler, strong tower…

  33. 1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.
4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.

With God by my side and I will Praise with everything that I have no matter what goes on he will be there I will praise his name because he is God just for that reason because he will never let go of us because he is our father when people that dislike us are against you on anything he will be with you to guard you from all evil that is towards you.

  34. 10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

12 When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.

  35. 1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

As long as we keep His praises on our lips, our enemies do not stand a chance!! By just the mention of His name demons tremble, what would happen if we spoke His name in praise in everything we do?

  36. 10 Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. NIV

Our God has never forsaken us, but we’ve forsaken him many times yet he still loves us, I’m grateful for such a forgiving God!

  37. 8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

9 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

Whenever someone is need of a shelter or refuge, what does person do to get shelter? The common term goes that someone is “seeking” shelter. If you are seeking shelter, that means you are looking for it, you are going towards shelter.

If you see a tornado in the distance and you know you need to get to a refuge to be safe from the storm, do you sit there and wait for the refuge to come to you? No of course not. You locate the nearest shelter and you run towards it.

A commonly occurring problem with society today is the expect help to be spoonfed or handed to them. When they want shelter from God, they wait for him to do something without doing anything themselves and wonder why they seem to be caught up in the storm. You can’t ask for shelter and protection while at the same time you are walking away from the very thing that can provide you shelter and protection!

Walking away from God or expecting it to come to you is not going to help you out in your storm in your life. If you need a refuge, you need to run to shelter! You need to run to God, you need to seek God. And when you do, then he can be your shelter.

Isaiah 25:4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against a wall.

  38. 9 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
Allow me to rest in your sanctuary of praise. I want to dance in your presence. I want to feel your Spirit within me at all times. Even as I fail you, thank you for your mercy. Don’t let me fall out of this marvelous dispensation !!

  39. 13 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

14 That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.

I ask GOD for mercy everyday, but should he grant it with all my troubles. I have dug myself a pit and put all that I have in that pit. As I was reading this chapter: it reminded me of a conversation that I had a few months ago about how we give everything to GOD, but then step out on our own. I’m learning how that can affect everything I do. My walk with JESUS is not as strong as I would like it to be. I do have trust issues in certain areas of my life and a lot of it comes from that point in my life when I used the I did it, this is mine. Look at me world attitude. Slowly I’m learning to humble myself to our LORD. Give me the strength GOD to define myself in you….Thank you Jesus….Amen!!!!

  40. I will give thanks to you, Lord , with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.
    Psalm 9:1‭-‬2 NIV

This is His our attitude should be in our everyday life. Everyday giving thanks with our whole heart and rejoicing in what ever situation we find ourselves, whether it be good or bad. God know has everything In control and He knows the outcome.

  41. That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation

How many times do we forget such a great high price that was paid for salvation. That I may have life and have it more abundantly in Crhist. Here is a major reaso why to praise God, why to rejoice at His salvation. Thank you for the blood Lord. Thank younfor your sacrifce of love, thank you for thy salvation.

  42. The ministry of judgment

8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

The judgment of God is always something that we are scared of and we should fear the lord. But here is a different side of judgment that we don’t think about. You hear it said all the time to use good judgment or something was against my better judgment. We all will face judgment. We will be judged by the only good judge. And his decisions are final. However we decide what the judgment will be. His judgment will always be right.

  43. 1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

You have to make up in your mind that you’re gonna give it all to God no matter what.

  44. “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭9:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Thank you Jesus that we know your name and can call upon you and you answer.

  45. 13 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

David shares his revelation that God is his deliverer. Even though people despise us and persecute us God will be our vengeance. We get the last laugh at the enemy .”Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me” (Micah 7:8).No matter how much trouble comes our way and the enemy comes in like a flood, God will lift up a standard against him. Out of God’s mercy we are lifted out of the gates of darkness and into his marvelous light.

  46. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord , hast not forsaken them that seek thee.(Psalms 9:10 KJV)

The Lords sheep know his voice and put their trust in him. His name is Jesus and by his name mountains move and chains are loosed. We know that when we put our trust in God that he will never leave us nor forsake us. He will protect us and care for us.

  47. 15The nations have fallen into the pit they dug for others. Their own feet have been caught in the trap they set.

Our nation is digging itself into a deeper pit daily. The liberal mentality continues to erode family values little by little. The whole country suffers due to them. We must stand up and let our righteous values be heard.

  48. 1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

I will praise the Lord through all things. Good and bad.

  49. Psalm 9:-8. Today’s English amp ). Bible is saying. And he will judge the world in ( rightness and equity); he will minister Justice to the peoples in uprightness. (Acts 17:31). This sounds like judgement day foreveryone!

  50. 9 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Refuge: a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble.

David describes God as a place. A place that we can go and abide in to be safe from pursuit, or trouble. When our heart is set to trust in our training, or experience, or strength, it gives us a false sense of hope in those perishable things.

Gods name, Jesus, is from glory to glory. From everlasting to everlasting, how then can we rely on anything else but what will never perish. It can not be defined by time, or space, or matter.

In Jesus, will I put my trust, he will protect me from danger in my times of trouble.

  51. I WILL praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvelous works. 2. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. I will sing praises to you JESUS for everything you have done for me . I will rejoice and be glad in it.
