Psalm 23

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Weve all done so much things in our past that we caint forget!! But instead have to carry with us!!not as a burden but our testimony. Half the stuff we done we shouldnt be here today but because of a loving and merciful God we have hes given us the oppertunity to change who we once were and to make a difference and spread his word!! Its amazing what a couple words can do to one person or a few who actually want and has been looking for the help (God) I caint name how many times hes ever picked me up before my feet touched the ground/how many times i left him for what i thought was better then his word yet tooken me back and forgiven me/or how many times he let me wake up instead of taking my life and just giving up on me!! Thank you JESUS for tearing off our blind eyes and helping us shed every layer of what wasnt of you off!! We praise you JESUS!!! You never seem to stop amazing me!!!

  2. Verse 4 MSG “Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure.” God does not give us the spirit of fear and He is always with us when we choose to follow Him.

II Timothy 1:7 AMP “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].”

Genesis 28:15 AMP says “Behold, I am with you and will keep [careful watch over you and guard] you wherever you may go, and I will bring you back to this [promised] land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

And as we have already read in Psalm 16:5-11 CEV “You, Lord, are all I want! You are my choice, and you keep me safe. You make my life pleasant, and my future is bright. I praise you, Lord, for being my guide. Even in the darkest night, your teachings fill my mind. I will always look to you, as you stand beside me and protect me from fear. With all my heart, I will celebrate, and I can safely rest. I am your chosen one. You won’t leave me in the grave or let my body decay. You have shown me the path to life, and you make me glad by being near to me. Sitting at your right side,[a] I will always be joyful.”

  3. 6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever…
It’s a choice, a decision that has to be made. Whatever happens, no matter what Life throws your way, the best place to be is in God’s house, with God’s people.

    Joshua 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

  4. Yea tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil!
You are right their even in the shadows that lurk . I will fear. NO EVIL!
You are my rod and my staff. I rejoice in You oh my Lord. Your promises are steadfast.

  5. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Growing up when JT Pugh would be preaching he would stop in the middle of his message and we would read the Lord’s prayer. That I am thankful for.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days

  7. I love this chapter the lord is my shepherd he comfort me i fear no evil because the lord protects me his mercy can endure forever.
Thank JESUS i will rejoice because of these things and because of your love and mercy

  8. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me

The rod and staff are the shepherds tool to guiding his sheep, although he applies pressure to the side of the sheep and it can even seem forceful and sometimes painful, it protects the sheep from the direction they are going. The pain that God applies to our live to put us in the right path should be just that for us, comforting. We can be in the midst of chaos, with everything that is going on and while it is pressuring, it is assuring that it only our master guiding us through trying times.

  9. We don’t have to worry. God is our Shepherd. Allow Him to lead to you in his ways to take you into those pastures where we can lay and rest.

  10. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

You have restored me God and I am truly grateful. I will follow as You lead, I will obey as You command. For Your name sake Jesus, let all that I do be pleasing unto You, let my life bring You glory!

  11. Are You For Hire?

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The heart of a true and good shepherd is in their flock. Unlike a hired shepherd, the good shepherd will guide them, protect them and the flock recognizes the voice of its shepherd. The good shepherd would be willing to give his own life for the flock. Are you for hire? Do you love the Lord? We have been called to be shepherds.
    #GoFeedHisSheep #John21:17 #GoMakeDiscples #Matthew28:19

“”I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. The hired man is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when the hired man sees the wolf coming, he leaves the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired man. He does not care about the sheep. “I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and my sheep know me. They know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I give my life for the sheep. “I have other sheep that do not belong to this sheep pen. I must bring them in too. They also will listen to my voice. Then there will be one flock and one shepherd.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭10:11-16‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  12. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

In meditating about this, He does continually restore our souls to their original states, sinless, able to commune with Him, because He forgives us. He covered us with His blood, paying the price that we could not pay, just so that we might spend eternity with Him… I love you Jesus.

  13. Thy rod and they staff…

The rod conveys the concept of authority, of power, of discipline and of defense against danger. The rod is what a shepherd relies on both for himself and his flock for protection. It is used for discipline as well. The staff conveys the concept of longsuffering and kindness. No one in any other profession carries a shepherd’s staff. It is solely used for the care and management of sheep. The staff identifies a shepherd as a shepherd.

    They comfort me…

The rod used for protection and discipline while the staff is used for guidance and care; how does this comfort us? Is there comfort in discipline? Maybe. There is obvious comfort in knowing we are being cared for and guided away from harmful situations. We may have to walk through a dark place to get to a better field but we were guided in and can trust we will be guided out. How is there comfort in discipline though?

The definition of discipline is the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience. The definition of comfort is to make (someone) feel less unhappy; console. Is there comfort in knowing if we choose to disobey we will be punished? If it is consistent, I believe so. Remember, a rod of discipline applied without love is nothing but a beating.

Psalms 23:5 KJV  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

It doesn’t matter how many enemies are against us, when God is for us we will be in peace while the world around us is in chaos. Wow, what a great promise and what a great God. There is a great example found in the following scripture. 2 Kings 6:16-17 KJV  And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.  (17)  And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

We can be in total peace when surrounded by the enemy when we realize that there is more for us than against us.

  15. I heard an evangelist preach this psalm and he used men to illustrate it: He asked 2 men to stand on both sides of him for the rod and staff, he asked a big man to stand in front of him for the table, and asked 2 men to stand behind him to represent goodness and mercy. Point is, we are completely surrounded by God’s provision and protection! Love this psalm and this illustration to show God’s love for each of us.

  16. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever

Amen Lord! You are so good Lord, we don’t deserve nothing but your mercy upon us is what helps us daily. You love us so much that we can’t comprehend how great your love is toward us. I will always dwell in your house. Your house is where I was saved, my marriage restored, healings took place, faith grew, wounds healed. You are my rock Lord!!! Thank you for being so faithful, kind, merciful, and loving. No other name like your name Lord!

  17. Such a simple yet profound chapter. Well known by most everyone who has ever been in any type of church.

My God restorers my soul. He brings me back to where I need to be. He builds me back up when I am tore down.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I’m sure this valley wears many faces for each of us. I have felt like I’ve walked under the shadow of death over the last few years. So much death and heartache it felt as though we were there in it’s shadow. But even so, the Lord never failed us. Despite the deaths we served the God of life. I have no reason to fear any evil. Blessed be the name of the Lord

  18. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

When you have Jesus in your life there is no need for want or covetousness. Jesus is everything that we need. .. The bible says “In Him we live, move and have our being!

  19. Using the images of a sheep in the care of a shepherd and of guest in the home of a generous host David celebrates the security afforded by Gods protection
God as Shepherd. Pastor as Shepherd
Sheep cannot survive alone in the wild but always be in the company of a shepherd. Shepherds Love his sheep gave them. There name and cared for each one of them. Many shepherd interposed himself between wild beast and his sheep and at night the shepherd lay down and slept in the single door way to his sheepfold. And enemy would have to pass him to attack his flock.
How marvelous then for us scripture sees as sheep that God presents Himself as our shepherd. He leads us protects us and because he’s always with us we fear no evil.
WOW!!!!!!! Reading this shows how are Pastor lines up as a Shepherd. Thank You Jesus that we have a Pastor that lines up with the word of God.

  20. Psalms 23:1, “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Since the LORD is our Shepherd, the One who leads us, feeds us, watched over us, protects us, provides for us, and cares for us, what more could we want (wish for, desire, long for, crave, or need)?

    He’s all I need
    He’s all I need
    JESUS is all I need.

Phil. 4:19 says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus “

  21. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Sometimes we look around and we are in the valley, but Lord how did I get here? its really nothing to be afraid of unless we turn tail and run! The valley to me is where God strengthens us and it doesn’t have to mean death, it can mean life, we are on a path to ever lasting life, and some paths lead us right through valleys, deserts, not all the time our journey is gonna be on the mountain top, and even the mountain has its problems, we cant fear, get anxious and clam up, just keep walking and leaning on God he is gonna protect us! Now do I clam up and turn tail and run? Yes I have more than I need to, but that is so tiring and you dont learn anything, and when you come back, you have to go through the valley again, and this time its harder because you want to finish, but now you know there is a easy way, so now your not only fighting against the elements of the valley your fighting against the flesh, I have to just submit to God and let him do in my life what he needs to! My favorit verse is 6 because it is my Goal to DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER!

  22. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

He restores us, His mercy covers us, and His goodness is everlasting! If we walk with Him as He leads us and keep our eyes on His kingdom, we will never have to want for anything!!

  23. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
I will fear no evil..i will fear nothing but the Lord for he is with me everywhere i go.

  24. GO WITH THE SHEPHERD

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

The WORD of GOD declares JESUS as the SHEPHERD. JESUS declared of HIMSELF.

John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

The question we must all ask ourselves is this:

Is JESUS the LORD my shepherd. Is HE (JESUS) my shepherd or just a shepherd?

    A Shepherd provides the following:

    Flock Welfare
A shepherd’s primary responsibility is the safety and welfare of the flock, according to the Mountain Plans Agricultural Service. Some flocks may include as many as 1,000 sheep. The shepherd will graze the animals, herding them to areas of good forage, and keeping a watchful eye out for poisonous plants. Shepherds often live in trailers or other mobile quarters. As the sheep eat all the forage in an area, the shepherd will move both the sheep and his living quarters to fresh range. In most cases, the shepherd and his dogs will move the sheep out to fresh grazing each day and bring them back to bed down in the same area each night.

    Protection from Predators
To protect the sheep under his care, a shepherd may use guard dogs or other guard animals. Sheep predators include coyotes, wolves, mountain lions, bears and domestic dogs, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Domestic dogs are more of a threat than many larger predators, according to the USDA, because they may chase sheep to exhaustion and cause the ewes to abort their lambs. In addition to using guard animals, many sheepherders carry rifles to shoot predators that are attacking the sheep. Cell phones and radios may also be used to call for assistance when necessary.

    Health Issues
Like other animals, sheep are susceptible to diseases, and they must also be monitored during the lambing process. They may also be bothered by insects, some of which carry disease. Shepherds are often responsible for minor injuries or basic medical treatment, especially since they work in isolated areas far from veterinary services. In addition, shepherds may administer worming medication or vaccines and apply insecticides. During lambing season, the shepherd will make frequent checks on the ewes at all hours of the day and night, and may assist the ewe if birthing problems occur. Shepherds may also dock, or cut off, the tails of young lambs.

    Shearing
Unlike other animals that shed their hair in the spring, many breeds of sheep must be shorn — have their fleece cut off with shears or clippers. This task may be assigned to sheepshearers, whose primary occupation is shearing, or it may be the responsibility of the shepherd. Sheep may be sheared in the open or in holding pens. An experienced shepherd is expected to shear up to 125 ewes a day without nicking or cutting the skin, and to remove the fleece intact, according to the Mountain Plains Agricultural Service.

What a BLESSING to call JESUS “MY” Shepherd.

    GO with JESUS.

  25. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

I didn’t realize that this was todays chapter, but I woke up around 4:30 this morning and this was the scripture that was on my heart.

The oil is extracted from the olive by a grueling crushing process. Being anointed comes through a process. Facing our adversary draws that anointing out in our lives.

  26. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

I sure have had some low valleys, and have walked were it seemed that I was in the shadows of death. Nothing compared to the places that David must have been. A life story declared and used to speak to generations.

What will my life speak? Will my life be a composition of the manifestations of the Almighty God, or will it be another statistic?

    That is up to us!

  27. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  28. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Sheep are timid and will not lie down if they are afraid. Because they are social animals they will not lie down if there is friction among the sheep. If flies or parasites trouble them they will not lie down. Finally, if sheep are anxious about food or hungry they will not lie down. Rest comes because the shepherd has dealt with fear, friction, flies, and famine.

We too are like sheep. We don’t sleep if we have fear or are afraid of something. It’s hard to sleep, if we had an argument with a family member. We can’t sleep if mosquitoes, flies or flying insect is buzzing around. We cant sleep if we are anxious about finance troubles, relationship troubles, or trouble at work. But through prayer, we get the rest needed, because we must cast our cares upon Jesus (our Shepard). In due time, our prayers will be answered.

  29. Wow! So much He has given to us to make it through our life. What will I do for Him? He requires more than I can give. I will strive to have my cup filled with His countenance and massive blessings. I am here to help. Help me Lord when I fall so I can finish my race.

  30. Psalm23:3 English amp Bible, He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness . Uprightness and right standing with Him – Not for my earning it, But for His name’s sake. Thank you Jesus for restoring my live in the Holy ghost. And thank you pastor for being a good Shepherd.

  31. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Restoreth- to return, bring back, revoke

soul- self, life, creature, person, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion, passion

Thank you Jesus for restoration. He revokes or puts an end to the validity or operation of (a decree, decision, or promise) that the enemy once had one my life. Daily He restores me and all the haters of yesterday do not effect my today because I have been restored in Him. God revokes the appetite, mindset, living, desires, emotions, and passions that my old man had. Now I am open to His appetite, mind, living, desires, emotions, and passions.

  32. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

This year has been a valley I have face. But my comfort and my rock has been the Lord. With God by my side has made everything easier cause I trust him. Just like the sheep’s knows to trust in their shepper, I know to trust in the Lord!

  33. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
    Psalms 23:4 NKJV

Being in the valley is not a bad thing. It’s in the valley that We know what we are made of. It’s in the valley that our character and faith is built. It’s in the valley where we begin to use His Word and His Word corrects us and also comforts us. We can’t get to the mountain top with our going through the valley.

  34. This may sound kind of crazy but I have read this psalm all my life and my daddy used to read it to me when I was little. My dad had one of those base voices made for radio lol and when he got to verse “6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” In his best voice I would always picture this huge angels one goodness and the other Mercy now remember I was a child but to picture that and to know it in my heart always gave me a great sense of security. Yes, I know my God it’s Mighty and great Now but as a child no one could take the comfort of knowing Goodness and Mercy shall always be with me!

  35. When I need a refreshing, God retores my soul. Every once in a while we all need a refreshing. God is the only one who can give us that type of rest.

  36. 6 Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.

Thank you Lord for not giving up on me! You lead me to your house where your love, mercy, and comfort is! God I pray you lead every prodigal and lost soul back to your house, let them be chased by you love and welcomed in your arms! What a loving God we serve, thank you Lord for your house that I can find all I need in you!

  37. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

When I read this verse I am reminded of Paul, who says, O death where is thy sting? When we are filled with the Holy Ghost, He is always with us. Meaning we can have the same confidence that when in the valley of the shadow of death our God is with us. The rod and the staff is talking about the Word and the Spirit; that bring comfort and His Gospel is the rod of His strength. When we are in His will then nothing can defeat us nor separate us.

Ro 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  38. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

I might be in the darkest place but I know u will be with me and he will not leave me by myself and he will be there for me for ever

  39. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.(Psalms 23:4 KJV)

God is our bright an moring star and he’s always on our side lighting the path through every dark thing we go through.(The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 KJV). He doesn’t give us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.

  40. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

There is protection and comfort in Jesus. Why should we fear when our trust is in Him. He promised to be with us till the end of the earth. Though it may seem in times of havoc that we are alone, He is still there for He is omnipresent.

  41. “You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of GOD for the rest of my life.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭23:5-6‬ ‭MSG‬‬

  42. I did this yesterday but forgot to post it on here.

    Psalms 23:1 (KJV Strong’s)

    A Psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Why do we rush about frantically trying to gain? We work and work to get money to buy things and when life doesn’t go how we want we wring our hands, we pace back and forth, and contemplate whether or not we should get a pay day loan.

The Lord is my shepherd. Not me. He is. So I don’t need to operate in independence but rather dependence upon him. Which means I don’t need to try and do his job for him.

He is the shepherd so it’s on him.

This why the word of God says to not be anxious or worry for anything.

    Matthew 6:25-26 (KJV Strong’s)
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

    Let God handle it.

  43. THE LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. No LORD I don’t want with you, you supply all my needs I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!!

  44. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

The evil of this world is trying to shadow over all of us. God is the light as we all know. But I walk through the valley where he is also my light and Guide. He fights all my battles at all times, and I thank him for that!

  45. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

With all my enmities around me. I fear no evil.

  46. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

My DADDY supplies allllll of my needs and even my wants HE IS faithful to supply!!! THANK YOU DADDY!!!

  47. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

The rod and he staff are what was used to keep the sheep in line. God loves us enough to correct us to keep us safely with him when we are in times of trouble.
