Psalm 74

O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?

Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.

Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.

Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.

A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.

But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.

They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.

They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.

We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.

10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.

12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.

14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.

16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.

17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.

18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.

19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.

20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.

21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.

22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.

23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.

  1. As we gather together today in the midst of our city square to pray, let us remember: ‘God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.’ Regardless of the need, he is able! Although his mercies are new every day and he continues to move amongst his people today, our God is a king of old! He set all things in order, his strength and his alone accomplished all the works of old and when the time for salvation drew nigh, he was the one to provide! Our prayers are not in vain, nor are they without effect: ‘The fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much!’

As this night draws to a close and a new morning dawns, this Psalm assures us: ‘The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.’ Regardless of the hour or the day, he continues to reign. Let us pray the prayer of the righteous over our city today that God’s light would surely shine upon those desiring to seek him. Let us lift him up so he can draw all into him! Amen!

“See how these enemies insult you, LORD. A foolish nation has dishonored your name. Don’t let these wild beasts destroy your turtledoves. Don’t forget your suffering people forever.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭74:18-19‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There is not another country on earth that is hated more than the nation of Israel. I believe that God Almighty gave Israel a modern day Friend by giving them the United States of America. It is such an honor to grow up in a country that loves and protects Israel and to know, according to the law, that we reap those benefits as a nation.

  3. 13. You have divided the sea with Your power; You shattered the skulls of the creatures of the sea;

    15. You broke open the earth and springs burst forth and streams filled the crevices; You dried up the great rivers.

    16. The day and the night are both Yours- You fashioned the sun, moon, and all the lights that pierce the darkness.

    17. You have arranged the earth, set all its boundaries; You are the Architect of the seasons: summer and winter. Voice

God hasn’t forgotten what He did or is able to do, but by ‘reminding’ Him, we remind ourselves and build our own faith in Him.
Since God did all of this, my situation is no match for His power!
Give it over to God – He’s got this!

  4. Verses 20-21 MSG “Remember your promises; the city is in darkness, the countryside violent. Don’t leave the victims to rot in the street; make them a choir that sings your praises.” Oh what a fitting chapter for today as the CEV captions it “A Prayer for the Nation in Times of Trouble”. Not today devil; today, we will take this city! We all will GO today and become the choir that sings your praises.

  5. 12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

“Give me that old time religion, it’s good enough for me. Makes me love everybody, it’s good enough for me.” So many more verses but the point is, there’s nothing like the truth, it was good enough for the apostles and it’s good enough for me!

My God is the same yesterday, today, and forver. He is the rock of all ages, the same Jesus who died on the cross, the same Holy Spirit in the book of Acts…that is my God! I’m so blessed and privileged to say there’s no other name I know and beyond that we have a wonderful opportunity to share Jesus today!

  6. 10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.
12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.

IN the middle of the battle, right as we think the adversary is getting the upper hand or we believe that God is allowing them to have the advantage over us, he is actually working out the victory. God knows the battlefield of every soldier and how each struggle against us must be won. Just because it SEEMS they have the upper hand, doesn’t mean anything. The greatest battles we have are not ones with flawless victories, they are the ones that God allows us to almost be overtaken, when it seems like we are going to lose and then somehow strength is built and a mighty triumph happens. We dont need easy battles, we need things to challenge us we need to feel like we cant win, thats how we get stronger.

  7. In this chapter we read of how great God is and that everything is His. You would think He would come to their aid. I believe this chapter is referring to when Nebuchadnezzar omg of Babylon destroyed the temple and took the people and inprisioned them.

Thus chapter also referred to the coven are God had made with the people, that if they obeyed He would come to their aid. Yet, they are in this situation because of their disobedience.

When one lives under the umbrella of grace and blessings it can be easy to forget the high cost of disobedience. Let us be reminded that obedience to God Word keeps us under His wings of safety where we can say in the place of blessings and security. Disobedience will cause Gods hand if protection to to be removed from over our likes and our enemy will distort the altars in our lives and inprison us.

Yet there is hope. For repentance restores us!

  8. See how these enemies insult you, Lord . A foolish nation has dishonored your name.
    Psalms 74:18 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/psa.74.18.NLT

Just a few weeks ago pastor preached on Spiritual Authority and he preached about all the responsibilities of Lucifer whenever he had the obligation of reflecting the glory of God and he was to protect the holiness of God. When he opposed the throne and was thrown out of heaven all of his duties fell on us. That’s what we were created for. To stand up and do the job right. God created us to praise him at all times. God created us to worship Him. he created us to glorify him. We are to protect the holiness of God. The enemy does everything he possibly can to defile that which is holy and to corrupt what God has sanctified. It is our great blessing and duty to stand up and protect the Holiness, Glory, and Honor of the Almighty God. Anytime we hear or see something that makes light of what God has called to be holy we need to stand behind our King and protect it.

  9. I CHOOSE TO GO WITH KING JESUS

12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

The words “working salvation” seem to suggest that salvation is not the flip of a switch or an on/off button. Working indicates, with labor or toil, preparation and execution of effort.

The words work and salvation are mentionedin also in the New Testament.

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

However the word work is a biblical theme.

    JESUS declared IT
John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

The SPIRIT of GOD declared IT
Isaiah 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?

The APOSTLES of JESUS declared IT
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

    We should GO declare IT
1Chronicles 16:24 Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations.

Psalms 64:9 And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.

Psalms 107:22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

Lets GO work with and for GOD and HIS Kingdom. He is working salvation in the midst of the earth.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo

  10. 16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.

17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.

18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.

Today we’re taking the enemy by surprise! The foolishnshall hear your name and tremble.

  11. 16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
No matter what the day brings weather it’s bright and sunny or is dark as the night just know that God is in the middle of it, just know that in our darkest days God is right there by our side keeping, protecting and sheltering us. Not only that but know he holds the light and the sun and God will shine the light of his spirit on any situation.

  12. MSG – God is my King from the very start;
he works salvation in the womb of the earth.

This weekend as we reflect on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we celebrate the victories of the cross. It is not with pain and suffering that victory was won, that we might enjoy the benefits of eternal life. He fought the enemy, He overcame, He is the Victor!

  13. How long, O God, will you allow our enemies to insult you? Will you let them dishonor your name forever?
    Psalms 74:10 NLT

As hard as it my seem they are not getting away of what they are doing we might think we are getting away but we are not GOD see everything and he promised we will be judged by are sin

  14. 12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

Let’s GO declare that He is God to all the earth and share the word of His salvation!!

  15. Josiah: 16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
He created the stars also. Psalms 118:24 “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” God alone created the heavens and the earth. God prepared the light and the sun.
5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.
6 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
There are strong men and stronger men. There is the newest hobby, style, or thing to do that come and go. Yet God is eternal. God’s word is eternal. His power and strength is immeasurable. He is my rock and my salvation. God delivers and saves. He raises up and puts down. He created the stars also. If God is for me who can be against. I can be glad and rejoice this day. BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD. HIS GLORIOUS NAME.

  16. This Psalmist appears to be griping and complaining as to God for getting his people. Why is God allowing the enemy to destroy the temple and destroy His people.

He asked God to remember his promises. What about the Psalmist? Why can’t he remember God’s promises too. Sometimes we spend more time trying to highlight and remind God of all the bad things that are going on, that we don’t spend time reminding ourselves of God’s promises.

Could it have been a different chapter had the people continue to remind themselves of God’s promises and lifted themselves up with praise. Instead of spending so much time trying to remind God of what the enemy is doing.

  17. Hannah: “12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.” He has always been the One God and he always will be The Only One God. He is my king and my rock which I lean upon. He is the one who strengthens and leads us on. Since the ancient of days he was feared and he always will be. He works salvation all across the earth. He calls and calls but only those who will listen to him will be saved. First we have to have a desire in our hearts to learn more about him and to follow in his steps. He has brought people to him from the beginning of days and he continues to call to us because his desire is that all people are to be saved. You should strive to be like the Lord and serve him with all your soul, mind, and strength. Never let this world get in the way and always serve the Lord.

  18. Even in the darkest times we can always look to God! He will be that light we need in the dark places. It is a blessing that even in those dark times, we can still turn to Him and we can still read His Word, providing that “lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”(Psalm 119:105). Even in the valley of the shadow of death we don’t have to fear any evil for God is with us! As it can be seen of David in this Psalm, we do not have to worry that God has left us or that He does not see the afflictions of His children. We just need to praise Him all the time, no matter what is going on around us or what God is allowing us to go through. “Many are my persecutors and mine enemies; yet do I not decline from thine testimonies.”(Psalm 119:157) As long as we keep in praising Him, He will bring us through and make us stronger in our walk with Him! Thank you Lord!

  19. 12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.

What a mighty, powerful God we serve. Since the beginning God has and will always be as powerful as we was from the beginning. We serve. God that can do absolutely ANYTHING why dont we believe it 100% of the time. I believe some of us still doubt what hes capable of doing. Or maybe its not that we doubt he can do anything but we doubt the reason we believe it should happen is even good enough. The thing is everyone isnt going to Heaven, but that doesnt mean God cant save anyone. Keep praying everyone. And praise God for what hes doing in YOUR life. Praise God for what a MIGHTY God he is.

    God bless you all!

  20. 20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty

We must keep the covenant with God and keep his commands. We must keep them so we can separate ourselves from the evil places of this world. Help me Lord keep your commands, I am glad you rescued me from hell.

  21. AMP – 12 Yet God is my King of old,
Working salvation in the midst of the earth.
    13 You divided the [Red] Sea by Your strength;
You broke the heads of the [b]sea monsters in the waters.
    14 You crushed the heads of [c]Leviathan (Egypt);
You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.
    15 You broke open fountains and streams;
    You dried up ever-flowing rivers.
    16 The day is Yours, the night also is Yours;
You have established and prepared the [heavenly] light and the sun.
    17 You have defined and established all the borders of the earth [the divisions of land and sea and of the nations];
You have made summer and winter.

It doesn’t matter what happens, God, the one who created all things, can at any moment wipe away all those that oppose Him. Remember how the earth opened up and Korah and those standing with him was swallowed up? Remember how the flood destroy the earth and there was only 8 souls saved? When God gets his fills of this earth, and it’s godless ways, He will say enough is enough, and that trumpet will sound from the Heavenlies.

It’s too late to live for Him when the trumpet sounds, we must be living a holy, separated life now. The scripture says, Matthew 7:14 “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

Don’t be alarmed at who stops following the path we are on. Don’t be alarmed at those that start teaching/preaching another doctrine. Keep on the path, keep focused. Jesus is coming soon.

  22. I Love To Worship The Lord
Asaph begs God to remember his people in a time of national disaster. He urges God to hurry and restore the honor due his name and keep his covenant promises to aid his oppressed people. The psalm ends with a passionate appeal for God to rise up and to act.

  23. Psalms 74:1 (NLT)
“O God, why have you rejected us so long? Why is your anger so intense against the sheep of your pasture?”

There is only one word that can answer these questions. SIN!
Yes, we are the sheep of His pasture, but when we SIN, “it’s SIN that separates us from God. It’s SIN that causes God to hide His face from us. It’s Sin that causes God not to hear us.” (Isaiah 59:2)
Therefore when we SIN, and God hides His face from us and does not hear us, we feel rejected by Him.
There is a solution. REPENT! “Draw night to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye SINNERS; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” (James 4:8)

So if you feel rejected by God, you feel like God’s angry at you and not hearing your prayers – you need to have a Heart Checkup! REPENT!!

  24. 16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.

God is good all the time! No matter what happens in our lives we know that Jesus is always there and he will never forsake me! Stay faithful to God and he will stay faithfull for you.

  25. 12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

Plan and simple. God is all that we will ever need.

  26. 5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.

6 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.

This is a very great sin of old, worshiping the work of the hands. We see Buddha hanging in houses that we work on. I’ve said hello a few times but he never answers. He would be easier to take him down then it was to put him up. Worshiping the work of your hands is the same thing. Weath can fall much easier than it was gained. We have to put our trust in things that are eternal. We have to work and have things to live and there is nothing wrong with prosperity but our hearts have to be set on Jesus and let him bless us.

  27. 2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.

He remembers us-where we came from & where we are going. He purchased our salvation on the cross long ago and we are his inheritance. Keep us Lord in your hand and guide us with your eye.
Ps 32:7-8 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. 8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye..

  28. You, O God, are my king from ages past,
    bringing salvation to the earth.
13 You split the sea by your strength
and smashed the heads of the sea monsters.
14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan[c]
and let the desert animals eat him.

Because of You the enemy has been defeated.
Thank you for your sacrifice so that we could know salvation.

  29. 12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

Thank you Jesus for the greatest act of love and sacrifice that we may have eternal life with you. He is risen and well able to do great and mighty things. He purchased our salvation and is ready for more to come to Him to receive this wonderful gift.

  30. 20 Remember your covenant promises, for the land is full of darkness and violence!

The Lord will never forget the promises he has made to us. But we will forget our promises intentionally or willfully. By doing so, we are breaking the trust and bond you may have had with your friends, relatives or loved one.

  31. “Remember your covenant promises, for the land is full of darkness and violence!”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭74:20‬ ‭NLT‬

    Remember your covenant!

  32. 12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

  33. Psalm74: 16 ( English Amp) The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have establish the ( starry) light and the sun. God controls the whole earth , He created anything on this earth. Sun , Star’s, moon, Day and night.Let your light shine on us .

  34. 14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness

David’s praise here caught my attention, his testimony of what God has done. Specifically breaking the heads plural of leviathan singular. It just spoke of me no matter what you run into God is able to handle it. It does not matter, whether you need peace, focus or a multi-headed massive creature dealt with, God can handle it far better than we can, so give it, reminded me to God with praise and see what God can do.

  35. 16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.
Our God who set the universe in order, created every aspect of the earth, controls the day and seasons also knows our every need. In those darkest valleys of trials and the mountain top experiences we know that the Lord is right there with us and working everything out for our good. He has never failed us and never will. If he can create such a magnificently beautiful earth and breathtaking universe that gives him praise; how much more spectacular is it when we willingly give complete control of our lives to him in order to create a vessel that is used for his glory and honor!

  36. 12) For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. 22) Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. 23) Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.
    Psalms 74:12‭, ‬22‭-‬23 KJV

I know that I need to work for my salvation. No one can save me except for Jesus. No other name as the song says. No other name can save except Jesus. Now with that; His word also says:
    26) For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
    James 2:26 KJV

This is an area where I struggle; I know that for me to be saved 100%: I need to be in prayer, in the word, and keep myself accountable. Thank you Jesus! ! !

  37. 12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth

We don’t need any new age religion or doctrine. What God established in the times of old we need to carry with us today and not tear away at the foundation of our faith.

  38. 21. O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name. 22. Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. 23. Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually. I Love You Jesus !!!! Praise ye the Lord !!!!

  39. 23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.

    Peace

Great peace have they that love thy law and NOTHING shall offend them. Peace is what the enemy of God’s chosen cannot have because they are too busy trying to fight.
