Psalm 82

God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

  1. 6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

We must never forget who we are, in this world that has an incredible amount of confusion as to what identifies someone. People are trying to identify with everything but who they are. This world is so lost, it is confused on what is left and what is right. Everyone is so concerned with how they feel at that moment, they dont think long term when it comes to what really matter. WE are CALLED children of God, we are royalty.

  2. JUSTICE IN THE CONGREGATION

1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

JESUS is KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. The psalmist declares that if you congregate all of the mightiest gods of the earth in one place that JESUS will continue to reign and rule as KING of GLORY.

However, I also believe this principal to be applicable to the congregation of the righteous. When the KING of Glory reveals HIS Glory and Power among the congregation of believers, HE judges all things according to HIS Law (WORD).

For this cause it is imperative that we have unfettered and uninhibited PRAISE for and to GOD.

Psalms 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

    The word

inhabitest – 3427 yashab, yaw-shab´; a primitive root; properly, to sit down (specifically as judge. in ambush, in quiet); by implication, to dwell, to remain; causatively, to settle, to marry:

To summarize: when we PRAISE the LORD he sits down as judge among the congregation to rule on situations. This is why our PRAISE is so powerful in times of trouble and especially when falsely accused.

  3. Psalms 82:1 & 8
    1) GOD standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
    8) Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

Psalms 75:7, “But God is the judge… “

  4. Verse 8 MSG “O God, give them their just deserts! You’ve got the whole world in your hands!” Same verse NLT “Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you.” This verse reminds me of the old Sunday School Song “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”.

Acts 17:31 CEV says “He has set a day when he will judge the world’s people with fairness. And he has chosen the man Jesus to do the judging for him. God has given proof of this to all of us by raising Jesus from death.”

  5. 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

Arise, O God and take Your place! You are just and faithful in all your ways.

  6. 8. Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

    Psalm 89:
    11. The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

    14. Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

  7. But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! They wander about in darkness, while the whole world is shaken to the core.
    Psalms 82:5‭ NLT
5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. KJV

    Isaiah 24:18
And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

  8. Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you. (‭Psalms‬ ‭82‬:‭8‬ NLT)

Nations forget who the real judge is, living as they want. Not considering eternal life. No reverence to GOD or His word. He is the true and righteous judge. For He is the I Am!!

For the Lord most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth. (‭Psalms‬ ‭47‬:‭2‬ KJV)

  9. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

When I first read this I thought the Psalmist was insinuating that God was judging unjustly…but as I meditated on the chapter I realized the Psalmist was encouraging the rulers of Israel to judge and do justice for the needy.

Our job is to help folks escape the pits of hell. I pray that God would use each and everyone of us to bring justice to this world

  11. 6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

We should never elevate ourselves higher than God for He is the most high, and we are blessed to just be called His children! Arise, O God and let Your kingdom be established!

  12. Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you.
    Psalms 82:8 NLT
Arise God let your will be done there coming a day when everyone will be judged by their doing

  13. Verse 6. I have said, ye are gods. The greatest honour was thus put upon them; they were delegated gods, clothed for a while with a little of that authority by which the Lord judges among the sons of men.

They were given an authority. God has set a guidance a mandate for the church. There is a set order of leadership and guidance.
We are in a safety net if we stay submitted to those in authority over us.
I am thankfull for the leadership, the Spiritual authority that has been set.
For when the Pastor is under Gods authority we have no fear of where he is leading us!

  14. Prov 23:17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long
Psalm 82:2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

We tend to watch the wicked get richer, acquire more, and always win; but our God is a righteous and fair God and when the day of judgement comes as it says in Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. Trust in the Lord and His righteousness and do not envy the wicked.

  15. When facing opposition and lack of understanding from those in the world, it’s important to remember: ‘They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.’ There is no need of discouragement. When we truly recognize there depth of the darkness that deceives then, even frustration can be removed. They just don’t know what they’re doing. Their words are spoken in ignorance as they lash out against that feeling of conviction which can be oh so unpleasant. It’s not about us, it’s about him!

So how can do many be leaning is the wrong direction? The foundation he’s speaking of here is their spiritual foundation. The earth is physically exactly how good hung it in the heavens, but the spiritual foundation of those who live in this present world is entirely off course. So what can we rely upon? ‘God standeth in the congregation of the mighty…’ This world may be off course, but we serve a God who does not change! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever! His word is still the same, his principles are still the same, his love is still the same, so let us continue to praise his name at all times!

I want to stand where God chooses to stand! If he’s comfortable standing in the midst of the congregation, I’ll do the same! And as I do, I’l give him the praise and the worship that is due his name! Let us praise his name together forever!

  16. 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

EVERYTHING belongs to Jesus! Everything we revive give or even is made belongs to the most high of all Jesus! Lord let me be thankful for everything I revive. The lord is the most high judge and is the only judge that matters. All we want is Gods approval if we do things that don’t please people but please God that’s all that matters.

  17. 1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

Someone that is in the world, someone that lives with a carnal state of mind even know God can only judge them. It is important for people to understand that his opinion is the only opinion that matters. God is with us.
    Jesus is alive.

  18. 6. I have said, Ye are Gods; and all of you are children of the most High. 7. But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. 8. Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations. I LOVE YOU MY JESUS !!!!

  19. “I commissioned you judges, each one of you, deputies of the High God, But you’ve betrayed your commission and now you’re stripped of your rank, busted.”

The higher you rise, the harder you fall. There seems to be nothing more universally revolting than the fall of a big name preacher. The scandals of Jim & Tammy Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart and Ted Haggard all made the national news headlines. But not every failure gets such nationwide attention. Sadly, such falls by “men of God” are all too common.

It should not be so easy to cast stones at the fallen men of God. I would hope that we pray for them and their family, and be on guard lest the sin in our own lives come to overcome us as well. But for the grace of God, I too could be consumed by sin.

  20. I Love To Worship The Lord
God is the universal judge and calls human judges to defend the rights of the helpless .Unjust human judges will be judged by God

  21. Josiah: 2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
How long will we stand by and accept what this world is doing by not doing anything? How long will we hide out light?. Verse 2 ends with Selah. Think upon this. We need to GO. The psalm goes on to list some of the things that we should GO do. In verse three we should GO “Defend the poor and fatherless:” GO “do justice to the afflicted and needy.” In verse 4 we should GO “Deliver the poor and needy:” GO “rid them out of the hand of the wicked.” We are not able to do all things but “with God all things are possible” Mathew 19:26. The psalm goes on to say that some people in the world do not even understand or know. “they walk on in darkness”. People in this world are just going to walk on because for some of them that is all they every knew. This is why we should GO and be that vessel that Jesus has called us to be. LET US GO IN THE NAME OF JESUS! LET EVERYTHING THAT HATH BREATH PRAISE THE LORD. PRAISE YE THE LORD!

  22. Psalm82:4 (English Amp) Deliver the poor and needy; rescue them out of the hand of the wicked. God lead me to them so that I can help them. I can’t do nothing but pray for them ,But with God all things are possible.I pray that god uses me and my Church Family to bring this world to justice. There so many souls that don’t know that is a living God that loves them .I even have family that I am trying to reach ! Give God the glory and praise.

  23. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

  24. 5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

We all want to say that this is how the people in world are but the reality is that there are alot of people in church that are still in darkness just like I tend to deviate as well, we can point fingers but until we look at ourselves nothing will change.

  25. 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

  26. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

This is what pure religion is for God. We ought take care for those in need and show the love of God.

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
    James 1:27 NLT

  27. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

I’ve heard the question asked, “Why do we outreach the the less fortunate communities?” “What can they offer the church?” “Are they not just a financial burden?” My answer is when we bless the poor, God blessed us. When men bless you, there is a limit. God ‘a blessings are limitless. When we meet the needs of others God will meet our needs. You can’t do God’s math.

  28. 1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

God is the judge of all! He stands in the gathering of His people and brings judgment upon the wicked and those that are connected to them. It is important that we flee evil and the appearance of it so that we are not judged with the wicked.

  29. Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

This reminds me of how every knee shall bow and confess he is Lord. I am just glad that I have bowed before judgement and have the opportunity to give others the chance too. And verse 6 reminds us of the promise where it says
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. So not only are we saved from judgement but God has freely made us his heirs and children in Christ.I am just thankful for his promises and salvation towards us ward.

  30. Hannah: “3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. 4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.” Whenever you give to the Lord he will bless you back and give more abundantly back. Always give to those in need and the Lord will bless you. He says to feed my people and that could be physically and spiritually. When your neighbor thirts you give them water. Just like people come from the world into the church and they are hungry spiritually. They want the bread of the Lord and when we have the hunger of the Lord the Lord will feed you and quinch your thirst. When I serve him I will never thirst or hunger again. Always get the bread and water from the Lord’s table and you will never hunger or thirst again spiritually.

  31. Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you. (‭Psalms‬ ‭82‬:‭8‬ NLT)

God is in control! While some nations don’t want to regard God and act like they can survive without Him there are other nations like the USA who love and and serve God and that’s why His blessing and favor is upon us. God bless America!

  32. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. 4. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

    poor
    po͝or,pôr/
    adjective
    1.
lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society.
“people who were too poor to afford a telephone”
synonyms: poverty-stricken, penniless, moneyless, impoverished, low-income, necessitous, impecunious, indigent, needy, destitute, pauperized, unable to make ends meet, without a sou; More
    2.
worse than is usual, expected, or desirable; of a low or inferior standard or quality.
    “her work was poor”
synonyms: substandard, below par, bad, deficient, defective, faulty, imperfect, inferior; More

Poor doesn’t always just mean money. Sometimes the “poor” are those who lack things like support and Jesus. We are to defend and deliver. This doesn’t mean that people are to be taken out of their crushing, but that we should be compassionate while they are going through things. We should always be willing to help defend or deliver those who are working through their own situations.

  33. 5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

To correct a fool takes teaching them their wrong doing which is impossible if they are unwilling to accept and recognize their error. God is the light of the world and we shine for him but the wicked are in darkness and unstable in all their ways. Jesus will lead us and guide us in his ways but the evil will perish in their stumbling around in the dark.

  34. They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
    Psalms 82:5

We have a sure foundation in Jesus where we cannot be shaken or torn down by the enemy for the gates of hell cannot prevail against the church.

  35. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

I need to always be reaching out to all types of people in this world! God is no respecter of persons. I should be sure that I take every opportunity the God provides to reach out. Not only in witnessing, but also as this Psalm speaks, I need to be doing my best to reach out physically and spiritually so they too can know the love of God! They may not know God for themselves, but I can always be trying my best to show that same kindness and love to everyone. There are many people struggling in this world and relying on things of this world. By showing the light of God in my life in all I do, I can show them that God is the one they should look to, because He will take care of His children; on top of giving eternal life! “Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his mercy endureth for ever.  I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place.  The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?”-Psalms 118:4‭-‬6

  36. The struggle is real sometimes wanting God to judge people now for their actions, but when we take it to Him in prayer, we find that we would be judged for our actions as well. We must recognize something we can’t change, and we have to give it to God, and then leave it there. Wash our hands of it and move on, otherwise it will control us, and those that have wronged us are actually winning. Let God be God and move on. He knows what’s best and when and where judgement will come.

  37. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

People around us can be poor in many ways, and being sensitive to them and what their need might be is important. Sometimes it could be obvious (being homeless) but other times we should just ask! Especially at the altar, we can’t assume everyone that comes is seeking the Holy Ghost-they might need healing or intervention in a personal matter. Be sensitive to the Holy Ghost and ask what we can do to assist someone in need. Lead them to the Lord after you’ve addressed their need, let them know God has more for them to seek.

  38. 3“Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.

One would think we all have equal rights, but we don’t. It seems like money talks, and one will be able to buy themselves out of trouble. Even a person in a prestigious position like a governor or senator will get away with breaking the laws. With God on your side, it doesn’t matter what position or class level your at. You stay faithful and God will give you victory over your situation.

  39. 3.Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. 4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. Jesus is no respecter of persons. He has done more for us then we could ever imagine.I must share this message to all; so they can come to Jesus and have the blessings and protections upon their lives as well.

  40. 6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

We are children of the most high, so why then is it that we neglect our positions and authority as such? Could it be that because we knowingly allow sin into our camps, because we know our shortcomings, and so we refuse to allow ourselves to walk in the power and authority that Jesus has for us???

  41. Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
    Psalms 82:3‭-‬4 KJV

This is an area where I need to grow and become stronger. We are God’s servants and He entrusts us to help those in need. Not only do we need to defend our own hearts and souls, but we need to defend the defenseless. Lead those to salvation and protect those that have a hard time protecting themselves. Thank you Jesus.
