Psalm 84

How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!

My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

  1. Verse 2 AMP “My soul (my life, my inner self) longs for and greatly desires the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.” There is only one true living God. Jeremiah 10:10 CEV says “You, Lord, are the only true and living God. You will rule for all time. When you are angry the earth shakes, and nations are destroyed. John 17:3 CEV says “Eternal life is to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, the one you sent.”

Verse 10 AMP “For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I would rather stand [as a doorkeeper] at the threshold of the house of my God Than to live [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.” Psalm 16:11 AMP says “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.” In your presence is where I want to be.

Verse 12 AMP “O Lord of hosts, How blessed and greatly favored is the man who trusts in You [believing in You, relying on You, and committing himself to You with confident hope and expectation].” All we need is Jesus, for it’s all in Him.

  2. One day spent in your house, this beautiful place of worship, beats thousands spent on Greek island beaches. I’d rather scrub floors in the house of my God than be honored as a guest in the palace of sin…MSG

We are so blessed to be able to come to God’s House and worship Him! So many people either don’t know Him or aren’t allowed to worship Him openly; let’s not take it for granted, lest it be taken from us.

  3. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

I would not go back to my old life for all the riches in the world. Better is one day with you,LORD, than thousands elsewhere. I’m so thankful that You chose to love me and save me. You are my Savior, Redeemer, Deliverer!!

I love my church, I love being apart of it. I love the presence of God when I enter into the sanctuary or the prayer room, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how most of the members felt. A place where we can cry out to our Jehovah father. But then I wonder…Is this how our guest feel? Do they feel at home? David said the Tabernacle was ambiable… Do they feel that way about pofw? Do they feel at home when they visit what is supposed to be their home? Are they feeling the pleasant atmosphere they are supposed to feel? When it comes down to it..We are but mere doorkeepers to help usher in the ones in need of the great physician.

  5. For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory.
The Lord will withhold not good thing from those who do what is right.
    Psalms 84: 11 NLT

  6. Psalms 83:16-18 Fill their faces with shame that they may seek thy name O Lord. Let them be confounded and trouble for ever, yea let them be put to shame and perish. That men may that thou whose name alone is JEHOVAH art the most high over all the earth.

    One God

  7. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

There’s no place I’d rather be than in the presence of the almighty God, I’d rather work in the kingdom of God than chill and reside in sin. Truly one day in Your court Jesus, is better than a thousand days elsewhere.

  8. Wonderful words for our hospitality: ‘How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!’ His tabernacle may be called the house of prayer because of the visible demonstration of his hand in motion through our prayers, but people are willing to come to his house because of our friendliness. They see in us the love of God!

We forget sometimes how different we truly are, or minimize those differences as we take them for granted, but the psalmist says: ‘Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.’ We are well and truly blessed in his house! Those blessings are truly our strength as his laws become written within our heart. When that is true, we don’t have to go through the ups and downs… we can go from strength to strength. Of course, strength is often displayed by its use, so we’re not promised a lack of problems… we’re promised that his strength will carry us through every situation!

Those final verses have been committed to memory for some time now and say it so well: ‘For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.’

  9. Psalms 84:10 (AMP)
“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand (anywhere else); I would rather stand (as a doorkeeper) at the threshold of the house of my God Than to live (at ease) in the tents of wickedness.”

While driving to church one Sunday morning, I heard this song on the radio ” Better Is One Day.”
    Verse 1
How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty
My soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied,
    Within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

    Chorus
Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
    Than a thousand elsewhere

    Verse 2
One thing I ask and I would seek,
    to see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells

    Verse 3)
My heart and flesh cry out,
    for You the living God
Your spirit’s water for my soul
    I’ve tasted and I’ve seen,
    come once again to me
I will draw near to You
I will draw near to You

  10. 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.
4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

Find a house of God and run to an alter

When I read this passage, my thoughts went to how safe the little birds feel when the mother bird makes them lay down. Under her protection, she is willing to sacrifice herself for her young. She will not allow harm to come to them easily.
Now for us our nest is the alter where we lay ourselves out before the Lord. Safe in arms, surrounded by his tender mercy and love. The Fire of the alter should warm our hearts. We must know that we are safe in an alter. Jesus has already paid the ultimate sacrifice of life so that we may live. He is the one that I go to and know that I am safe.
Thanks be to God for all that he has done for me, and kept me safe through.

Let’s share this gospel and #GOdosomething

Psalms 84:10-11 NLT A single day in Your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. (11) For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.

Praise the Lord, the Psalmist in this chapter was really hungry for the presence of God Almighty. We too must have this hunger for God to the point of longing to come into the house of the Lord. Once we find this hunger deep in our souls, the Word says, “The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.”

We must draw near unto God and then He will draw near unto us.

  12. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.
5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
10 Better is one day in your courts then 1000 elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper it in the house of my God then dwell in the tents of the wicked.

  13. 1 How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts
10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

This just reminds me again, of how great the church is, and is to be in. There is a saying it is better to live one day as a lion then a thousand years as sheep. While that may be what some in the world look for, my heart is with David, when he says one day in God’s courts then a thousand elsewhere. Because I would not want to spend one day without God with me.

  14. Finally, a Psalm without complaining!!

We may know it by different terms — such as griping, grumbling, whining, or belly-aching. Regardless of the word we use to describe it, complaining always has the has the same symptom. The dictionary defines it as “an expression of unhappiness, dissatisfaction, or discontent.” Complaining is the outward expression of discontent from within. Whatever circumstances that cause discontent or dissatisfaction, complaining is always an expression of unbelief toward God.

Do we believe that Jesus is in charge of our life and our circumstances? Thus, if believers complain, it really becomes an accusation against God, in whom we’ve trusted our lives that we have stopped trusting Him. “…all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28). If we really believe that the Lord is in control of our life, and is working “ALL THINGS together for our good,” then stop complaining and start thanking the Lord for the plan He is working together for our lives.

  15. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

I love this passage becuase it has a deeper meaning than first realized. Pastor Raymond Woodward said that the doorkeeper was symbolic of someone who didn’t just stand in front of a door and open it but one who actually opened up the church to the flow of the spirit and the presence of God. The doorkeeper job was to usher in the spirit of God into the temple so when people arrived God’s spirit was already present .. Lord use me to invite and usher in your spirit into your house and among your people!

  16. GO WITH GOD FOR THE GOOD

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Understanding the GOODNESS of GOD is a revelation of PEACE and JOY. The LORD GOD is a light and protection to us. HE is witness to everything we say and do.

The KEY to HIS Goodness is to walk upright or righteous, in alignment with HIS WORD, HIS will and HIS SPIRIT. HE will not withhold any GOOD thing. Obviously in HIS eternal WISDOM, HE knows what is GOOD and HIS GOOD and my GOOD may not always be the same.

For instance in Genesis 3 the serpent, persuaded Eve to be the fruit from the forbidden tree to be GOOD. However as we know it may have taste good for a moment, but nobody can attest that it was GOOD.

Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

It may look GOOD from our limited (human) perspective, however it is not GOOD from the ETERNAL perspective of GOD.

We must TRUST GOD that HE knows what is GOOD for us and not be frustrated or offended if we do not possess what we think is GOOD for us. To walk or GO uprightly means that I TRUST GOD is leading me to what is GOOD and keeping me from what is not good for me.

  17. Psalms
6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

This was the pilgrimage route taken by the Jews to the temple in Jerusulem.
Some scholars also said it was the valley of mourning.
Other translators say the word Baca was a tree of some sort.

What caught my eye was they made it a well. A well goes deep and usually is filled with water for refreshment. In the valleys of life is where we really find what God has for us. His well is deep and is full of living water. Several passages of scripture speak of wells. The woman at the well where Jesus gave her the drink where she would thirst no more. A servant at a well that led Issac to his Rebekah. There is Life in the well. There is much in the well. We cannot let the cares of this life put out the fire that God has poured out upon us . There is strength when we draw from His living waters. From His well . 40 Days of Fire………Being around the heat of revival a burning in our souls to reach others will draw not only us closer to God but will draw others to want to have a drink from this well. Fire, heat, work makes one thirsty and I believe we will see many come to the well. To be filled with this fire of the Holy Ghost!

  18. 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

There are people searching for a place of peace, searching for somewhere to call home, searching to find a place of rescue and restoration. We are blessed to know that’s this place is the House of God and it is up to us to share it with the world! Let us GO into the house of God with our worship!

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness

There is no other place I would rather be than in Your Love!

  19. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.

  20. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

No place that I would rather be than in His presence. Its in His presence that all else falls away.

  21. 10 Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Amen!!! The devil has nothing to offer me. We can’t let the enemy deceive us, we have to see in the spiritual and see the great blessings that God has for us. It might take time, but its worth fighting for it. Jesus is not a microwave but He does listens to us and is faithful!!!! We have to have a relationship with Him!!!! He loves us so much that sometimes people are scared and reject Him, but not me Lord!!! I love you so much your my EVERYTHING Jesus and I am standing on your promises. Thank You Jesus !

  22. 16 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

The word Baca means “a place of weeping”. There are times in our relationship with the Lord that we are at such a place, a place of sorrow, place of weeping, a place where we don’t understand the current “storm” in our life. However, the key words in this verse is “passing through.” It’s not a place we stay, it’s not a place we put down roots, we pass through. Just like in Psalms 23 “Yea tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.”

Whatever season in life I may be in, I can most assuredly say, “10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

  23. One day spent in your house, this beautiful place of worship, beats thousands spent on Greek island beaches. I’d rather scrub floors in the house of my God than be honored as a guest in the palace of sin. All sunshine and sovereign is God , generous in gifts and glory. He doesn’t scrimp with his traveling companions. It’s smooth sailing all the way with God -of-the-Angel-Armies.
    Psalm 84:10‭-‬12 MSG
We are blessed to be able to come in God house sing and praise there is no place on Earth I rather be but in GOD house

  24. 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

As the psalmist stated, we are truly blessed when we trust in him because when you trust , you have a complete reliance and confidence in the ability of our wonderful Jesus. We can rest assured because we are steadfast in knowing that He will take care of everything.
Ever since I began serving the Lord, he has blessed my family and I more than I could ever possibly imagine. His mercy, grace, strength and provision has brought me through many situations that I could never have dealt with on my own. I can never praise him enough for all he has and will do in my life and those that I love!!!

  25. 11 For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory.

How awesome to have God as our shield. What could penetrate the sun, nothing it will get burned up before it reaches you. Praise the Lord that guards us daily.

  26. 10. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11. For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. Amen !!!! Thank you for mercy and grace Lord !!!!

  27. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. (‭Psalms‬ ‭84‬:‭10-12‬ KJV) This morning as I was driving to work I could see the stars shining brightly! It made think In the awesomeness of GOD in the beginning of creation. Verse two of Genisis chapter one ‘and the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. AND THE SPIRIT OF GOD moved upon the face of the waters. Did I rejoice in this scripture!! Knowing that the LORD did all of this for me, my family, my friends ect. How He loves us so much, that in His mercy He has brought me into His house. I am truly blessed!!!!!!

  28. 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

As long as I am walking in the way of the Lord. He will always bless me with all the things I need.

  29. Josiah: 2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
This is my pray that “My soul longeth…for the living God.” When people longeth for something so bad they will do anything to get it. Sometimes that can be a bad thing but when it is in the kingdom of God there is eternal blessings. With God I can have a place of true rest. A spiritual rest which can lead to a physical rest away from all the carnal and bad things of this world for He is my rock. I can trust the Lord for in verse 12 it says “O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” Earlier it says in verse 5 that “Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.” This is why my prayer is that “My soul longeth…for the living God”. I do not want to long because of a lack of spirituality but because I have a thirst for more of Jesus’ kingdom, His word, and a true relationship with Him. PRAISE THE LORD. LET EVERYTHING THAT HATH BREATH PRAISE THE LORD. PRAISE YE THE LORD!

  30. Better is one day in your court. Better is one day in the presence of God then any other day in the world

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

  31. v4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee.

We the Church are a part of GOD’S HEAVEN KINGDOM, we share the same joys and passion as heaven.
We are a BLESSED PEOPLE !

  32. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

Have we really considered how blessed we are to be able yo have a house of worship? Yo have a roof over our heads when we gather to pray, or to put it this way to have a covering. We are beyond blessed if we take into consideration those that have to hide under ground to worship, pray and praise. Stay in the house, the safe place. Sometimes we get distracted when we look elsewhere besides God. You may look at situations or you may look at people, but the only One who is constant and will never fail you is Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Focus on Jesus and go past the flesh that the eye sees. Stay in the house of God and be blessed. Blessed are they that dwell, linger, remain, stay, in thy house. It doesnt say remain in the perfect or most favorable, the house of God. Wherever 2 or 3 are gathered in His name, Jesus, there He will be. Focus on Him. Lord Jesus give me, us this day the mind of Christ.

  33. 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

    Thank you Jesus!
Not a day goes by do i wonder why God saved me. What lured me into chirch was the peace thay God have everyone i had seen insode the church, imside his house these people were filled with the spirit of God and i wanted that so bad. They say gold rubs off on gold and iron sharpens iron. I wanted that peace and when i got it i wasnt forced to walk uprightly it just so happen to come woth package. As soon as i God comes into our life the goodness cpmes with him.

    God bless you all!

  34. Psalm 84:4-6, “Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.  Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.  Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.”

I need to be sure that in all things I am putting God first! I can always praise Him, but I need to be sure that I am actually giving that praise that is due Him! Even in the times of sadness, I can praise Him! He will always be there in those times of need to bless and strengthen His children! The Lord is my strength and my refuge, a strong tower and I can always trust in Him!

  35. Hannah: “ 4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah. 5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them. 12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” Always your heart should yearn after the ways of the Lord, not this world. When you yearn after the Lord you will start walking in his path and you will keep on growing in him. It says blessed are the men who yearn after Lord, and forever I shall always strive to go in the Lord’s ways. His ways are perfect and I will never stop serving him. When I start falling he is the one who picks me up and comforts me. Always praise and serve the Lord and you will go far in him.

  38. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

This verse reminds me of a song in Spanish that says, “There is no greater or higher place than to be at the feet of Jesus.”
Even the most “undesirable” positions in the kingdom like the Keeper of the Cellars of Oil, we miss completely that fact that when it’s a promotion from God, there is a unseen blessing attached with it.

  39. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

It’s not important who we are or what we do for God-as long as we are there in his house & in his kingdom and are doing something. Every job is important in the church and bottom line is, I’d rather do anything for God in his house than not to know Him, his love, mercy and salvation. When we give, he gives. He supplies our every need.

  40. 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

For designed sparrows to have their homes in nests secure to lay their young. The same way he gave his presence at the altar our to be our resting place. The altar is a place of self sacrifice, there in his house. When we lay down our burdens, he exchanges them for joy and peace.

  41. Just stick with it!

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee.

My family asks me ” why are you always at that church? My old friends now have given up on asking me to do the stuff we used to do together. The process is underway. There’s no point in starting over. If you are going to succeed at anything my dad would say you have to ” have some stick with it”, ” finish what you start” and ” give it all you got”. These principles are used in the world all the time for success but it also relates to the kingdom of God. God blesses hard work and determination, he blesses the ones that stick with it. I will dwell on the house of the Lord forever

  42. 4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

Praisers desire is to stay in the house of the Lord. Most people stop praising. Because of the Life they live.

Lord teach me to guard my words and houghts

  43. 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

The house of the Lord is a place of safety.

  44. 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

  45. “How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭84:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There’s nothing that compares to being in the presence of God. I pray that this scripture becomes our passion as we begin 40 Days of Fire!

  46. “What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭84:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬
I know where my strength comes from! From the Creator! For the next 40 days through the sacarifice remember where your joy and strength come from!

  47. My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord : my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.
    Psalms 84:2‭-‬3 KJV

To find the house of the Lord is an awesome thing. I know that I have not been the greatest steward of what God has provided me. I know that to dwell in His house. I need to give my all to God. This has been a not so great start to my week. I have to purpose it in my heart to trust in God and give all to Him. I want to be in the house of God and dwell in everlasting life, but it is a struggle. I do good for a while; then start doubting the goodness of God and wondering if I’m truly worthy of His blessings. I want to be as the sparrow and find a house. God knows what He’s doing in my life and I just want to give it all to the Father. Thank you Jesus.
