Acts Chapter 15

40 Days of FIRE – Day 26

Disagreements and conflict seem to be the main theme in Chapter 15. As we seek to live in peace and unity with others we often lose sight of how God can work through challenges an difficulties if we’ll let Him. Pray for the church to go in God’s love, Go in Grace and go in patience as we address our differences.

JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

Acts 15

And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.

13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:

14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.

24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.

38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

  1. Verses 7-11 NLT “At the meeting, after a long discussion, Peter stood and addressed them as follows: “Brothers, you all know that God chose me from among you some time ago to preach to the Gentiles so that they could hear the Good News and believe. God knows people’s hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith. So why are you now challenging God by burdening the Gentile believers[b] with a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors were able to bear? We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.” We are all different and wonderfully made by our Creator. We all have different gifts and talents that the Lord blessed us with to use for His kingdom. Let us (POFW) be in unity, working together to GO and bring more into the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  2. 11 We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.” (NLT)

    Thank you Jesus for your grace and mercy made new every morning!

  3. And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

    10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

    Legalistic thinking is something we must fight, Paul says in Galatians that we are born in the spirit and asked if we are made perfect by the flesh. Once we have walked this path of righteousness, it’s very easy to fall into a groove of the elite mentality, thinking that because we have done certain things for so long that makes us better or preferred then those that have just begun and by addressing standards to them rather than relationship it will make them better. Noah’s ark didn’t save him, Moses didn’t part the red Sea to rescue the Jews, walking around Jericho didn’t defeat the city…it was just simple obedience. It is one my passions that the church break this mentality, that we remember what a mess we were when we came to Christ and the grace we needed from God that kept us going and we use that method of teaching new believers about salvation.

  4. THE PERILS OF “GO”

    26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Preachers are the most often misunderstood people on the earth. Often falsely accused and misinterpreted we must GO and say what JESUS said. We attempt to present a GOspel of FAITH to a people of doubt. However, GOD called and GOD sent preachers of the GOspel are willing to risk everything to fulfill and satisfy the call of GOD in and on their lives.

    Preachers are responsible to share the GOspel with everyone that reveals we are sinners. This is dangerous with proud and arrogant people. However we speak HIS WORD for HIS GLORY. Man rejected JESUS and crucified HIM and preachers must be willing to accept the same fate. For this reason we should be eternally thankful for a preacher that is willing to risk his life to speak TRUTH and the GOspel to us.

    As the church of our LORD JESUS we are all called to share HIS GOspel and to hazard our lives for HIS name JESUS. Lets GO share HIS GOspel in FAITH and HOPE. JESUS will receive all Glory from a sincere effort to share HIS WORD.

  5. Build the Church

    Matthew 16:18
    And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

    Acts 15:7-10
    7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
    8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
    10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

    Here in the book of Acts, we find the “gates of hell” coming against the church. It is so fitting that Peter would be the one person to speak up. When the church in Acts was faced with disputing and discord they went back to the foundation of it all to find the answer they needed; Peter. They found out that their number one priority was souls. So, Peter was the fisher of Men and through his years became the teacher of how to be a fisher of men. He told them to put away disunity and let the spirit lead you to win souls. Then once they are in the church teach them to have a pure heart.

    SO, yes this once again proves that disunity is the enemies weapon of choice to destroy revival and harvest. Church let us stay unified! Be one with Christ, unified in your home, and unified as the body of Christ. When this is accomplished I belive many souls will flood the doors of the church crying “what must I do to be saved”

    Unity is Worth Fighting For!!!

  6. 36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

    We are not an island of Christiandom all to ourselves. We are a part of the family of God – as the old song lyric stated. A couple of the lyrics from this song are “When one has a heartache, we all share the tears, and rejoice in each victory in this family so dear.” “I’m not worthy to be here, but praise God I belong!” A family needs structure. There are positions in a family. There is a leader and those who help the leader make decisions.

    It is good to be accountable to the leadership that we are not only performing our family duties but achieving excellence at what we do. God does not ask for perfection, only excellence – that we give our best effort in all we do.

  7. We must not allow the enemy to bring division amongst God’s people. He will try to do what he can to keep us from attaining what God has for us. The bible says a house divided against itself cannot stand. A church divided will not be able to stand against the attacks of the enemy. This is why unity is so important. Unity builds bonds that are not easily broken. In God we can do all things.

  8. Acts 15:11 (NLT)
    “We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.”
    We are all saved by GRACE through faith.

  9. 15 Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.”

    Very controversial matter

    This is the time in the history of the Apostolic church, that is was decided to do away with circumcision as a practice from the church. Why is this important?

    As time progress, as I remember going up in the Apostolic church, there were certain things that were considered sin or harshly condemned in the name of religiousness. The men could not wear sandals, had to wear long sleeve, the women, wore long dress at all times, with there long veils and then as time changed, they changed there views.

    The problem is that some churches abandoned even holiness standards in scripture. They had seen all these rules from there child hood and now have started to change or “modernize” but have abandoned life saving Bible principles.

  10. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    It’s by faith that our hearts purified and we all need a purifying of our hearts no matter how long you have been saved, each one of us needs it.

  11. Act’s 15:11 ( English Amp) But we believe that we are saved through the grace ( the undeserved favor and mercy) of the Lord Jesus, just as they,( are). We are save by his grace and mercy. We believe the same way.

  12. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

    11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

  13. 6. The apostles and elders met privately to discuss how this issue should be resolved. Voice

    Privately.
    They met privately.
    They didn’t post insinuating or leading statements on the social media of their day.
    If it’s not worth your time to work out something privately, it probably shouldn’t be posted publicly.
    Work it out privately or Let It GO!

  14. Caution with Babes in Christ

    28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

    29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

    We need to be very careful as we teach and guide our new babes in Christ that we do not burden them too much with rules and standards too quick that we may lose them. Let’s keep in teaching the doctrine and His word and let the Holy Ghost guide them through the rest.

  15. Conflict to Allow Us To Be reminded it is Not About Me
    7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

    8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    Contention Conflict Disputes
    Disunity in the churchnl or even out of the church. This battle is not about “ME”. We war not against flesh and blood but the enemy that wants to.defeat us.
    God wants to.pour out His spirit upon all men and women but if the enemy can cause a rucuss then our focus comes back to our feelings.
    if I have learned anything in this life of mine it cannot be about me but about God’s Kingdom. God wants to do and will do.and is doing great things. For His glory that all men would come and be saved. No matter what the differences.
    His truth will prevail and we must speak with love andI’ve or in public and on private .
    His Strength is Perfect

  16. Verse 9 to me means we need to have faith in are life’s everyday and how we can have faith is by prayer
    Go faithfully
    Go pray
    Go in Jesus name Amen

  17. God knows people’s hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith.
    Acts of the Apostles 15:8‭-‬9 NLT

    The holy Spirit is fo everyone that want you can have it you want it

  18. 17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

    There will be a “remnant” of people that will want the Lord and will stand up for truth in spite of those around them. Lord, let me be part of that remnant, that is not swayed by peers and pressures to let down on truth, or principles in the word, but stand for righteousness, holiness and Godliness.

  19. We live in the dispensation of God’s grace, yet do we truly appreciate the power of his grace in our daily life and walk with him? It’s easy to see the need of his grace in salvation, when there is no means or hope of us earning or providing what is required of God for us to be saved. But like many other aspects of our walk with God, grace continues to exhibit itself in our life well behind that initial act of salvation… because we continue to need it in our life.

    This chapter should make that obvious and many of those points were made last Sunday, although there was another major point of contention over the inclusion of John Mark in their celebratory journey throughout the churches. These same men who worked together to bring the church through such a critical time in its growth while maintaining unity could not maintain it amongst themselves. ‘And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;’

    We see passages like this and wonder how could such contention remain in the midst of such revival? It serves as a good reminder that God has always chosen to work through man with all his imperfections. Once it reaches this level, neither can claim to be in the right and yet neither was willing to budge. What would a little grace meant to that situation? Yes, God continued to use them but how much greater a work could they have accomplished together? We will always have to work through our flesh to accomplish God’s desire in our life and if we go in grace each day there is no limit to what God can do through us!

  21. iLove to Go Blog

    “And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭15:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    There should be great joy in the church when declaring all the conversions of the Lord. The Bible says there is joy in heaven when one sinner repents.

  22. 40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

    We are all chosen to do something for the kingdom.of God. Stay strong brother and sisters. The time is soon to come. We will win.

  23. I Love To Worship The Lord
    Circumcision
    This rite was the physical sign that a person was included among Gods OT people In effect these self appointed teachers from Jerusalem argued one must convert to Judaism to become a real Christian

  24. 6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

    Whatever the matter or dispute that arises within the church, there is already a system in place to settle it. Proverbs 11:14 states, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” The Lord gave us seasoned ministers, elders and apostles.

  25. Josiah: 25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
    “being assembled with one accord” Notice how it says “with ONE accord” The church is not strong when it is not in unity. Philippians 2:2-3 really emphasizes this how we should be with ONE accord and nothing be done in strife. It says “(2) Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of ONE accord, of ONE mind. (3) Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” The bible clearly states how we should should go, in ONE accord, in ONE mindset, serving the ONE true living God. SO LET US GO IN JESUS NAME! LET EVERYTHING THAT HATH BREATH PRAISE THE LORD. PRAISE YE THE LORD.

  26. 26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Thankful for the men and women who sacrifice so much to reach the lost. Something we should all strive for.

  27. 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

    29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
    Some take these scriptures and try to say this is the extent of the salvation doctrine to the new testament church. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is that Antioch already was a blood bought fire baptized church in Israel for a while before this issue came up. And the issue was not about initial salvation experience but in the difference between converted Jew and Gentile traditions. As a matter of fact Antioch was were converted people were first called “Christians” so they were already a converted bunch. These instructions given were to smooth over the converted Jew/Gentile relationship not offer a plan of salvation.

  28. So thankful that the same Spirit that empowered them to be effective witnesses enables us to be powerful channels of blessing to proclaim to our world that JESUS IS ALIVE and HE IS STILL IN THE SAVING business.
    Go witness unto CHRIST in the uttermost parts of the earth.

  29. 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    This is the happiness that lures the people in. The joy of the Lord. This happiness is what attracted me so tomorrow GO bringing forth good fruit. Attract someone to the Lord let his loght shine bright and use that light to testify what he’s done for you and what he can do for them.

    Describe the purification of their heart

    God bless you all

  30. 17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

    18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

    Great are your ways great are your works great are you lord and greatly to be praise!

  31. 29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

    30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

    31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

    How good it is when the Word speaks to you.  When you seek after Jesus, the Word you will find him.  Many have matters concerning issues but here we see a message from the elders that said it pleases the Holy Ghost and them meaning that they sought God fo an answer and a word of direction.  If we mind ourselves in a bind, allow the Word of God to speak to you and pray for the understanding.

    A man has joy in giving an appropriate answer, And how good and delightful is a word spoken at the right moment–how good it is!
    PROVERBS 15:23 AMP

  32. And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.(Acts 15:9 KJV)

    The new converts don’t need to be held to standards that they couldn’t uphold. Jesus came to fulfil the law and not to abolish it. We shouldn’t put any difference between us and new believers but instead love them with pure hearts.

  33. 37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.

    38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

    39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

    Even the best church will have conflicts. It’s not a deal breaker if everyone doesn’t agree all the time.
    People leave the faith for too little these days. Just because you have a difference with one of the brothers doesn’t mean you have to leave the church. Just give these things to God and move on but don’t quit!

  34. 39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

    40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.j

    41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

  35. 1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

    “No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭2:29‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    There are just some things that you will have to cut out of your life in order to be saved. What a better example to follow then the leadership of your Pastor and First Lady. Allow them to lead you into a deeper relationship with Christ, that the spirit will influence your life.

  36. “And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭15:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Revival was not easy. It caused conflict. The conflict didn’t end the revival though. They pressed through it. They stayed the path and did the will of God.

  37. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

  38. 38 But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work. 39Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated.

    Unfortunately this happens all the time within the church, and people leave. It’s okay to disagree, but you have to accept the decision made. Move on and continue to serve God, the Pastor and church instead of leaving the church.

  39. At the meeting, after a long discussion, Peter stood and addressed them as follows: “Brothers, you all know that God chose me from among you some time ago to preach to the Gentiles so that they could hear the Good News and believe. God knows people’s hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith. So why are you now challenging God by burdening the Gentile believers with a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors were able to bear?
    Acts of the Apostles 15:7‭-‬10 NLT

  40. 8. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Ho’-ly Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9. And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Thank you Jesus for the Holy Ghost !!!!

  41. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith

    New believers have enough to take in once born into the kingdom. We shouldn’t place more on them that even seasoned leaders couldn’t bear.

  42. 25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
    The elders and apostles determined to do everything with one accord, showing that to have revival there must be unity and everyone working in one direction. Also, to show that unity they sent chosen men, to support that testimony. May I not work contrary to the unity of the church but with one accord with my brothers and sisters.
