Acts Chapter 6

40 Days of FIRE – Day 35

The early church discovers the need to appoint seven leaders to oversee the distribution of food to the needy. Among these leaders is Stephen. He is known for his faith, wisdom, grace, and power. Pray today that our church’s leaders might know God’s love, grace, protection, direction and provision as they Go Lead.

Acts 6

And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  1. Thank you Jesus to all the men & women who help save our country and giving them peace, freedom & love. Amen!

  2. They gave themselves to prayer and the word! There’s were that great faith and power comes from! So, great works & miracles happened! Then just when things were going great the accusations or dispute arose to stop the flow of God! Isn’t always the devils tactic to interfere or destroy.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

    “Be used”……….

  3. Verses 7-8 AMP “And the message of God kept on growing and spreading, and the number of disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem; and a large number of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith [accepting Jesus as Messiah and acknowledging Him as the Source of eternal salvation]. Now Stephen, full of grace (divine blessing, favor) and power, was doing great wonders and signs (attesting miracles) among the people.” Lord help POFW and its leaders continue to share the message of God with favor and power.

  4. 2. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

    4. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

The main thing to do is to keep the main thing the main thing.

There are lots of good works to do, and they should be done, but not at the expense of prayer and ministry of the Word.

  5. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Pray for revival in Jesus name. Pray for the growth of our disciples so we can GO and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Spread the news today.

    Jesus is ALIVE.
    God bless you all$

  6. Acts 6
    Anything GROWing presents challenges.
The question is, “Are YOU going to be a part of the problem or a part of the solution?”
The problem – the Grecians were murmuring against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
The solution – was to select 7 men who were of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost, and wisdom, who could be appointed over this business.
As the church GROWs are YOU going to be a part of the problem and murmur and complain about things, or are YOU going to be a part of the solution and WORK in one of the ministries of the church, so that Pastor can give himself continually to prayer and the ministry of the word?

    GO WORK!

  7. And so , brothers, select seven men who are respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdon. We will give them this responsibility. Acts 6: 3 NLT

  8. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Nothing trumps the word and prayer. No deed can be done to take it’s place, our service and words are in vain if our walk with God falters. The word of God is what guides us in all we do. The word says that many will professional all the work they have done, but they lacked relationship. That’s why we need a love for the word of God

  9. I LOVE TO WORSHIP THE LORD
    VS 1-15
When an dispute over the distribution of food strains harmony in the young Christans community the apostles guide the church to slect deacons who take on that responsibilty. One which was Stephen is effective in debating those who attack the faith.Frustrated by Stephens skill his opponents falsely accuse him and he is called before the Sanhedrn the governing council and supreme court of Judaism.

  10. If there is ever a time for leadership, it is when the body begins to murmer and complain. Yes, there may even be a grievance to address, but it didn’t need to distract the focus from God’s direction for the church. ‘Wherefore brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.’ All that was required of those that would provide the leadership for this situation is that they be honest and full of the holy ghost and wisdom.

Leadership however, is more than just a position.. it is about how we use our influence in the kingdom of God. Men of honest report have a heart that is seeking after God and have reached the point in their walk with God that his difference is evident in their character. We are commanded to have a good report within and even without the body and honesty provides a powerful impetus for that report. Honesty alone however was not sufficient for leadership in the body. They weren’t looking for resumes, they were looking for men full of the holy ghost. They needed the spiritual discernment not only to provide for their immediate needs, but to keep them engaged so the spiritual leadership of the church could operate without distraction.

Notice however their qualifications did not end there… because it requires more than just a good heart and a good spirit to provide consistent leadership. Men full of wisdom have taken the earnest effort to pursue that desire. They have applied their talents to the kingdom and are willing to work diligently and apply what God has provided to their life. Wisdom is more than a collection of knowledge… it is the practical application of that knowledge to the situations of life. Leadership can’t just say what should be done, they need to demonstrate what can be done. As James would say, they need to be doers and not just hearers of the law. Anyone can lead by their example, but that example is demonstrated by what we choose to do… because anyone can say anything. It is when their words agree with their actions as they honestly pursue after spiritual wisdom in their direction that they can be trusted to lead in the kingdom of God.

  11. CHURCH ON FIRE = WORD OF GOD

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

FAITH and WORKS are evidence of WORD of GOD in a disciple. As we GO and GROW in GOD and His Kingdom there are 2 major areas that should increase.

    1. Evidence of Harvest, the Disciples multiplied.
    2. Evidence of the anointing of GOD. (Power, Miracles and Wonders)

There is great value and advancement in reading, learning, speaking and applying the WORD of GOD to our lives. The principles of the WORD of GOD ally in any setting or situation.

To become a CHURCH ON FIRE and a CHURCH ON THE GO we must give ourselves to the WORD of GOD and PRAYER.

If we all fill our role of Ministry at The POFW, then we all have time to strengthen our FAITH and POWER by practicing the WORD of GOD.

  12. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

I believe the same to be happening here in Fort Worth, in Jesus Name!!

  13. Speaking With Authority
10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

Lord I pray that today I will s I rak with wisdom and with the Spirit that was within Stephrn. We have authority through the power of the Holy Ghost to speak into those we come in contact with. We must not have fear of what anyone may sat or think it is time to win the lost at any cost. Not family not Co workers not even laws
Can keep us from speaking with spiritual authority we must go and tell everyone!

  14. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
In this verse it shows the expectation of ministry is first to be honest, full of the Holy Ghost and then have wisdom. If we use this as the minimum requirements of ministry we will be doing well. God is always looking for men and women willing to serve in His kingdom.

  15. iLove to Go Blog
Acts 6:15 KJV  And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

Stephen was on FIRE! The NLT puts it like this: 15″At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel’s.”
God allowed the High Counsel to see Stephen to glow to remind them of the scriptures written in Exodus 34:30, Exodus 34:29-30 KJV  “And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.  (30)  And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.”

Stephen was on FIRE of the Holy Ghost and was glowing for the whole world to see. We too need to catch on fire in the Holy Ghost.

  16. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. J. SOLIZ

  17. 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

When others look at you what do they see? I pray that when people look at me they see a woman full of faith and filled with the Holy Ghost. But most importantly I pray they see Jesus!

  18. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

The ministry gave themselves to prayer and the ministry of the word, and the church grew in every way. Pastors need staff that can handle the various aspects of the work of the church so that they can pray and seek God so their church will grow. Thankful POFW has an awesome staff, allowing our Pastor time in the word and with God.

  19. So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.” So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.
Acts of the Apostles 6:2‭-‬4‭, ‬7 NLT
We continue to go out and teach the word yes we are going have people. Who going to try to stop us but if God is with nothing can stop us

  20. So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.

I pray that the religious leaders that are bound by tradition and demonic doctrine will be freed from their bonds and brought to True Apostolic revelation in Jesus name?

  21. People who come to church don’t just need to hear what they want to hear . They need to hear what they need to hear . I hope religious leaders Will understand That you are Jesus Christ’s servent . Your job is to win souls to his kingdom . And sometimes you have to be 💯 with them and don’t sugar coat it.

  22. 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Nicolas, a proselyte, used of God to grow His kingdom… No matter who you are Jesus wants to use you for His kingdom, its just better to have a made up mind, that we are going to serve Jesus with all we have, rather than being one who tries to rip it apart…

  23. There is going to be a time to where those who plan evil and lie and are against us just because we speak and stand up for righteousness ( the word of God ) will admit and see that HOLY GOD was and is on our side. And that it is the TRUTH that we speak.
    “40 days of fire”
( use me oh Lord!!!) prepare me during this time of prayer and fasting.

  24. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

  25. WE must give aren’t selfs to God threw prayer and use are gifts to the glory of god an his will . The ministry of the word should never be neglected by your duties or what ever you do in the church . Pastor should not have to be expected to do everything that is why we are the church and should be a whole and in unison.

Spiritual authority should never be taken as a joke or a game , make sure you are under your pastor before you go thinking you are spiritually above and in authority.

That being said check your self before you reck your self

  26. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

When we have the Spirit of God in us and his anointing it will empower us to do the work of the kingdom. It’s not our talent or eloquent speech but the the Lord’s anointing that we are able to go and witness.

And he said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying: Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts.
    Zechariah 4:6 MEV

  27. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

  28. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Revival now! It’s coming who is ready to reach the lost?

  29. Josiah: 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
They were not able to resist the wisdom, the word, and the spirit, of God when Stephan spake. The Bible tells us in He. 4:12 “For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” When they could not stand against the spirit by which Stephan spoke by and the wisdom, or God’s word, which Stephan spoke they resorted to having false witnesses who lied about Stephan. If people have to resort to false witnesses they are generally not on the right side. Yet the Bible says that they could not resist Stephan’s wisdom, or God’s word. God’s word is true and there is no fault in truth so they could not resist it. It is my pray that I always stick to God’s word, to wisdom, because God’s word is true so if I stick to it then I can stand strong like Stephan did. LET EVERYTHING THAT HATH BREATH PRAISE THE LORD! PRAISE YE THE LORD!

  30. 2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

If you’re not in leadership you have gifts that can be used by God in various ministries, so let God use you the way he wants!

  31. One of the chosen.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

As a child. My parents always told me to be a man of good report. They said always be truthful and honest, even if it gets you into trouble. Because in the long run a good name will go further than riches and fame. Oh how true that is. As a teenager, I thank God for keeping me through so many tests and trials. I had to make up in my mind never to give up on my faith and God. Yes, I’ve been tempted to leave and never come back. Yes, I’ve had drugs, alcohol, and girls waved in my face. Telling it’s ok, just go with what feels good. Wow. As I look back I see how much God was protecting me. And the teachings of my parents and elders in my life. One of the greatest feeling when I was tempted was to think of how many people I would effect. My friends and family, but most of all God. I never wanted to hurt him ,because he died for me. For my sins. For my wrongdoings.
I can say through all the things I have gone through, I have tried my hardest not to be someone of an evil report. Yes we all do things wrong, but let your name as a whole be good spoken of. As a young man, now, I am set to higher standards, of greater responsibility. This is why I still have men and women in my life that I go to in time of need. I have my parents and my pastor. And above all God. Young people, stay on track, stay in love with the creator. Do good and let not your name be evil spoken ,but good.
    #GODOSOMETHING for God

  32. Acts6:3-4 ( English Amp ) Therefore select out from among yourselves, brethren, seven men of good and attested character and repute, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whole we may assign to look after this business and duty.(4) But we will continue to devote ourselves steadfastly to prayer and the ministry of the Word. God can used us in any ministry that he wants to.Just watch and learn from teacher’s.

  33. Hannah: “4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” The word of the Lord is so powerful and something that I never desire to stop learning. It guides me through every trial and tribulation I go through and helps me to understand the Lords word better. To draw closer to the Lord, we do or best to fulfill his perfect will in our life and continuingly give ourselves to pray. These verses spoke out to me a lot and it is my desire that I never let go of the word of the Lord and that I will never stop praying.

  34. When you’re working in the power of God, there is no weapon formed that can prosper against you. As children of God we have the power to stand against everything the enemy throws our way. Our hope is built on Jesus Christ.

  35. Acts 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer , and to the ministry of the word

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers

The apostles doctrine was true, not because an apostle taught it, but because it was consistent with the Scriptures.

  36. 4But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Somethings can often become a distraction to the man of God and they don’t have to. It’s not nesassary to ask the brand of tissue or what color shoes to wear. We must be willing to be vessels of honor to God by serving in areas that we know well and allow the man of God and the leaders to handle the God ordained tasks that are before them.

Our task is to lift up their hands; in prayer and by serving with a smile

  37. What’s in your resume?

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

We his is not a bad idea when you are looking for any job to be done. As a business owner I pray for these attributes in the men that work for me. There was a very difficult time in my business that I would pray and pray that God would send me good men to work with. When I looked at these godly attributes along with the natural skills need to do the job, we noticed an immediate difference. Now that I look back at the business before I can’t believe how it has changed.

  38. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

Delegate work to certain men, that met the requirements necessary, allowed the disciples to focus on the Word and prayer so that Revival could continue.

Are we in the spiritual place that ministry leaders could delegate to us so that they can further the ministry they are over by prayer? We should be dependable, faithful and full of the holy ghost so that we can lead others, and be counted on by Leaders.

  39. “None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke. So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying, “We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6:10-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

False accusations are made all the time, but God true light will always out shine. Through prayer and wisdom from God, we can boldly stand up the the lies.

  40. 14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  41. 2So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program.

Just Pastor said during leadership meeting “we are here to teach the Word, and not to run a clinic”. All kinds of situations come up at church but we must remain focused on the Word.

  42. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

I had not noticed this before, but the first part of verse seven says the word of God increased. I was taken aback at first wondering how the word of God increased, so I looked up the Greek, and the word increased, and that word is auxanō which is to increase, become greater, or to grow. In the timeline of Acts the bible did increase with the letters to the churches and from the apostles. However I think and could be wrong that it meant to be greater as people to it into their hearts and believed, because the next verse says 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Which could not have if he did not know and believe the word. I want the word of God to increase in my life as well.

  43. 12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

Nothing has changed even as we speak lives are placed at risk by those who choose to do evil and smear people’s good names to get their way.

  44. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

We resist the enemy and he shall flee when we submit ourselves to God (James 4:7) and when the enemy tries to resist God they cannot stand. Stephens boldness and willingness to be used of God and speak the enemy can only get upset. The enemy only desires to trip us up, slow us down or stop us. They rise against him and eventually kill Stephen but they can’t quench his spirit that sparks a revival to Go! Preach and teach the gospel with boldness no matter who opposes us.

  45. Chosen and Sent

As the church grew the daily tasks became too numerous for the way it used to be. Delegation was the answer. The disciples delegated tasks to others who were ready. These people were the average Joe’s off of the street; rather they were handpicked and commissioned. They were chosen and sent. We also are chosen and sent people.

We are not only “chosen” people but we are also “sent” people. Sometimes we forget that. We focus a lot on our “chosen-ness” and forget that Jesus said, “I chose you and sent you out”. He has sent us out to “produce fruit, the kind of fruit that will last.” He can only ask us to produce fruit if he has first given us the ability to produce fruit.

    To some He has given the gift of helping people who are hurting;
To some to say just the right words that sooth and comfort.
To some He has given the gift of patience to help the elderly and sick.
To some He has given the gift of patience to help the young and foolish.
To some He has given the gift of business skills, others the gift to teach children and lead them closer to Jesus.

What were you chosen and sent for?

  46. 4. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. 5. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Ste’-phen, a man full of faith and of the Ho’-ly Ghost, and Phil’-ip, and Proch ‘- o-rus, and Nica’-nor, and Ti ‘- mon, and Par’- menas, and Nic’-o-las a proselyte of An’-ti-och: 6. Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. Praise ye the Lord !!!! I lift you high !!!!

  47. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

When the spirit of God is moving and great and mighty miracles are being done in the name of Jesus, there will always be those that will rise up against Jesus. We cannot be discouragedand give in to the opposition, but just focus on Jesus. He will always make a way and give us the words to say. He will receive all of the glory and honor! The world will pass away, but his word shall never pass away. !!
