Psalm 120

In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

  1. What this chapter is talking about is verse 1-3 talks about are tongue and I remember the tongue is the most sinful thing on are body that is why must pray and ask the Lord to help us with are tongue
Time to pray and Go in Jesus name Amen

  2. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

It all began with Jesus when his love broke through in my life! There were plenty blowouts on this bumpy road with flats and etc. But all I did was run on his love and resurrection power! My life for me felt at some all time lows, but the lord provided a way every time and he held me in his arms to strengthen me back up. Jesus is the only thing I need in my life no matter what my flesh says my spirit has a better answer. Thank you Jesus!

  3. Verse 1 NLT “I took my troubles to the Lord; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.” Psalm 55:22 AMP says “Cast your burden on the Lord [release it] and He will sustain and uphold you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (slip, fall, fail).” 1 Peter 5:7 AMP “casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].” Same verses in the NLT “Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” and “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

  4. 1. In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

Such a simple statement, yet it brings such comfort to know that we serve a God who:
    1. is alive and can hear us
    2. loves us enough to want to help us
    3. is powerful enough to bring us through or out of any situation.

    Hebrews 4:
    15. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

    16. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

  5. I LOVE TO WORSHIP THE LORD
120 is a prayer of a man living in spiritual exile he is a man of peace in a warring community. The psalmist ends with the prayer of the psalmist the punishment of the liar who has spoken falsehood.

  6. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

There will always be people who lie on us and a consistent amount of people that try to deceive us, we cannot escape that because we have no control over what others do. But we do have a God that can deliver us from it all. He can shut the enemies mouth, and can bind the deceitful tongue. Many times I have been in a situation where people spoke evil of me and I cried out to God, and He turned it against them. Never forget who is on our side.

  7. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

I am so thankful to serve a Good that does not turn a false ear to my troubles. I serve a Good that treats me like a treasured child. No matter what I’m going through, Your LOVE never fails me, LORD.

  8. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

Thank God we dont serve a dead God! God hears my cries and he is always right on time. He may not come exactly when we want him, for those of us that like to put God on a time frame..Im guilty! He is on time God and he like to be rushed he just stall longer too see if we have the faith to recieve whatever were wanting.
How much faith do you have?

    2) Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
    3) Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah
    4) Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
    5) God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

God has not failed to hear my cries, but how can he hear them if I dont cry out to him! I felt yesterday the sting of another persons lie, when someone says they will do something but dont! I dont care for those type of people, but it bothered me so bad that I carried it and this morning in prayer I had to let it go! So now im thankful, because that one situation drove me to get up early and pray, and I was able to realize how much I miss the time that I use to spend with God early, God has done so much, I do so little in comparison! Thank you Jesus for forgiveness, where would I be without HIM!

    Psalms 57: 11

  13. 2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue

Deliver me every day and every hour Lord, I can’t make it a single moment withough you; let all I speak be truth.

  14. 2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

The tongue can be a powerful tool, it can either be used to bring people up or tear them down. We need to pray over our tongue and let God take control of our tongue so that we don’t use to say evil things, but only for the truth.

  15. O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals.
    Psalms 120:3‭-‬4 NLT
Be careful what we do with our tongue

In pslam 50:19 it talk about how Wicked are tongue can get
Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies.
    Psalms 50:19 NLT
They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows.
    Psalms 64:3 NLT
Wise words will win you a good meal, but treacherous people have an appetite for violence. Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.
    Proverbs 13:2‭-‬3 NLT
There are so much scriptures that talk about the tongue remember what you said will praise God or will it praise the devil be careful what we say out of our mouth

  16. 1In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.
2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

As Chrisitians, we know to carry all our burdens to the Lord God and leave them there in his hands. But those who do not know God must deal with the hurts, disappointments and frustrations of life on their own-the best they can. Some of these people who don’t know God will turn to fighting, drinking or drugs to cope. We are blessed to know his word and to know that we have a loving God that hears our faintest cry and will answer in his timing. I pray for the lost to learn about Jesus and trust him with their cares.

  17. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

Everyone of us could have a “woe is me” attitude sometimes, but if we will just cry out to the Lord, take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there He will be as faithful to us as He was to David.

He cares for the very sparrow that falls to the ground, how much the more He cares for His blood bought children that He died for for. Just because we don’t see an immediate answer doesn’t mean is not working on our behalf.

The best work of a photo developing is the work that is done in the dark that we can’t see taking place, but it is working, developing from the negative side of darkness into the light so that we behold the beautiful picture. We must not discount what is going on in our lives that we can’t see with out natural eyes.

If God is for us, who or what can stand against us? Nothing!!

  18. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

When we cry out to the Lord in distress, the scripture states “and He heard me”. Don’t allow the advisory to place questions or doubt in your mind. Have faith in the Lord and the Word of God.

  19. Always Faithful what more can I Say?
1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

    His Strength is Perfect

  20. Ps. 120:1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

Ps. 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

This life is filled with hardships. Many of which just come with being human. From Natural disasters, to losing a loved one. We all at some point will have to go through these tests of life. I, personally, have had some. With that being said, this is when my faith in the Living God has brought me through the toughest times. In my distress I have cried out to God, Just this past Sunday, I cried out to God about a situation, and he heard my cries. He saved me, He loved me, He cared for me.
Young people- On the battlefield, sometimes, the military has to regroup. Which means in times of battle, there is whats called controlled chaos. And in this, they must regroup to see what has been accomplished, and what is still a pressing need.
We are in a battle of humanity vs. spirituality. And when we go through things, sometimes we have be still “regroup,” and know that He is God and we have to allow him to take control.
One of the greatest “regrouping” moments in my life was when my Father left this earth and went on to his reward. I had to step back and allow God to be my comforter in my life. And you know what? He was.
When you are going through the tests of life and the battles that come. Cry out, be still, and know that He is God.

  21. GO IN TRUTH

2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

We are foolish to trust people that are dishonest with others. In the past 2 weeks revelation has come to me that someone I trusted has been dishonest and deceitful, also that someone else has told a lie about me. This is not the first time for this to happen, but the most recent time that it happened. The fact is that sinners will lie, regardless of their title, status or relationship. Lying is a sin, no matter who says it, and here is why.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

However we are loved and led by the Father of TRUTH, our savior and deliverer.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

    HE is TRUTH because:

Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

We must separate ourselves from people that lie. If they will lie to GOD, lie to others, they will lie to you.

The psalmist prayed for GOD to deliver his soul from lying lips and deceitful tongues. To GO IN TRUTH we must pray the same and be willing to allow GOD to separate those people that he knows are in that category. Deliver my soul, O LORD.

  22. Josiah: 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.
7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
“I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me” God hears the prayers of His people. So, when people may wrong us in this world, or anyone, all we have to do is turn the other cheek and pray. As we GO be a WITNESS there are going to be those who may oppose us, or may be rude, but we should still be a Christian example. Matthew 5:44 says “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” Who knows? Maybe someone who may wrong us may be the guest at church if we just pray for them, turn the other cheek, and be a Christian example. So, let us GO be a CHRISTIAN WITNESS! LET EVERYTHING THAT HATH BREATH PRAISE THE LORD! PRAISE YE THE LORD!

  23. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

When we are depressed and distressed we should not have a pity party and be loners. Instead we should seek deliverance from the Lord! We should seek his help and support for he will protect us from lying lips and a deceitful tongue that would try to lie on us. He will protect our reputation if we trust him.

  24. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

When in a time of distress, instead of trying to figure your own way out, just cry out to the Lord and He will hear you!!

  25. 5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

When you’re doing the will of God, there will always be someone or something coming against you. The key to overcome is to stay persistent in the things of God. Stay in prayer and daily reading of scripture to have the strength on what’s coming against you. Without it, you’ll be very weak and may not overcome your battles. When you have God with you, nothing is impossible.

1In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.
2Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

It is the will of God for us to truthful and honest. Joh 8:44,45 “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe Me!”

Let’s break this down. So, according to the Word of God, when the truth comes forth some folks do not believe it because they are children of the devil. I’m thinking this is the reason for a low faith level. Folks have become accustomed to lying and thereby cannot receive the truth.

  27. 1 I took my troubles to the Lord; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.
2 “Deliver me from the liars, God! They smile so sweetly but lie through their teeth.”

Thank you God for hearing my prayers! In times of trouble I know you are there! God I pray that when people see me they will see you God. When they hear me speak they will hear You in me! The tongue is a powerful part and I give it you God to use. Let all I speak be the truth God!

  28. This Psalm is mentioned as being a song of degrees, or in other words, varying intensities… an interesting choice of topics for David to choose considering its application to Doeg. He begins in distress and is calling out to God before going on to ask for deliverance from a lying tongue. Image the setting.. he’s already running from Saul when he sees Doeg in the temple, yet his first declaration is he knows God has heard him! More important than the testimony of deceit, he looks to the greater testimony of the one that can make a difference.

Note his question that we may find ourselves asking from time to time: what does he expect to gain? Rather than bemoan his state, he reminds himself of Doeg’s end. He may prosper for a season, but the end thereof lies destruction. Of greater concern to David is his own state: look at who he is wandering among. He looks for peace and yet finds himself among the misfits of society that are only crying out for war. Mesech lies in the kingdoms to the north and is associated with the infamous Gog and Magog while the sons of Ishmael who dwell in their tents can’t be much better… and yet David still achieves peace!

In the midst of all the wrongs committed against him, in the midst of affliction, in the midst of poor counsel and desires for vengeance, David takes the path of peace against Saul! He refuses to touch the Lord’s anointed. He KNOWS that God has heard him and waits for God to bring deliverance… and suddenly the reason for his singing of such desperate times makes sense to us all!

  29. 3 O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment?

Yes God will bring punishment to those who don’t follow his ways. You own sin will soon be discovered when you least expect. It will affect you and your family. So get on your knees and pray to God for forgiveness.

  30. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

You can build up or you can test down with your tongue and what you do. Fill your self with truth that you may go speaking truth all the time.

  31. The deceitful tongue

2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

Deceit is a very tricky. It is not the same as a lie. It is deeper than a lie. A lie writes a sentence but deceit tells a story. Deceitful people lie to themselves and beilieve their own lies until they develop a false sense of life that “could” be real, a life that sounds better than their reality. Truth is not bent but half truths are deceitful, swaying someone’s opinion with a half truth like a politician. Telling half the story that makes you look good to gain something is deceit. You never actually lied but you didore damage than a lie. Deceit can be passive as well. Assuming someone’s motives and causing others to believe that to sway their thinking is also deceit. The great deceiver doesn’t come to you with dragons breath, he comes in with sweet roses and very seemingly good intensions. We guard ourselves from
Being deceived by knowing the word for ourselves and being bold enough to act it out. I example Eve,
Hath God said? Staying connected to Holy Ghost filled elders and councelors. Someone to run things by just to be sure, the Pastor! Deceit is more common than we think. When you put men’s words in the balance with Gods word it is far too commonly found deceit.

    My prayer….
Examine our hearts Lord and let us love our lives after the truth so that we are found faithful with our words and our actions.

  32. God excepts long distant calls so when you are distressed call him! “He answers”…..

1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

“Remember, Jesus already paid the price for that call”………,,

  33. A peace maker is a blessing, but a peace hater is a curse. To lodge with such for a night is dangerous, but to dwell with them is horrible.

Lord let me be a peacemaker!

Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

  34. Thank God he hears our prayer. Having a prayer life is important with our walk with God. We must not neglect prayer in our everyday lives. When we pray, we receive strength to continue to take down the enemy.

  35. 2Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

3What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

I need to be sure that in all I do I am wholly devoted unto God! This includes my speech. Often Pastor has said that what is in our hearts will eventually come out of our mouths. So I need to be sure that in all I do I am full of God, so full that nothing of this world can enter in! So that the only thing that is possible to come out is holy acceptable unto God! If I be sure of this and live faithful to God then I will not be this source of deceit and lying that this Psalmist speaks of. I need to GO and speak of the love of God to those around me! It doesn’t matter if all i face around me in this world is the same as what the psalmist faced, I know that my strength cometh from the Lord! With Him inside of my heart, there is nothing in this world that can prosper against me. He will give me the strength and the means to overcome that which is in this world. With God ALL things are possible!

  36. 120 1-2 I’m in trouble. I cry to God,
    desperate for an answer:
“Deliver me from the liars, God!
They smile so sweetly but lie through their teeth.”
3-4 Do you know what’s next, can you see what’s coming,
    all you barefaced liars?
    Pointed arrows and burning coals
    will be your reward.
5-7 I’m doomed to live in Meshech,
cursed with a home in Kedar,
    My whole life lived camping
    among quarreling neighbors.
I’m all for peace, but the minute
I tell them so, they go to war!

We can be thankful that God hears our prayers but He also is a God of truth and will give us the spirit of discernment to recognize the lie of others.

  37. 7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

This verse, jumped out to me. Often people discuss war, we should nuke that country or bomb here fight him or her, this party or that. But God said blessed are the peacemakers and with the armour of God are feet are to be shod with peace. I pray that I am inclined to peace and not war, be a peacemaker and not a peace breaker and my way led with peace.

  38. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

Some say God responds to great faith, and it’s true. But by my experience I have seem Gods hand the most powerful in my need. It seems at times that the greater the need, the greater God shows out.

I have been seeking for God, which is a good thing. But I have been seeking his hand and not his face. I wasn’t seeing that it was God placing the need for him in my life because that would make me respond.

When I realized that my greatest need is him, I didn’t look for him anymore out of necessity but out of love.

  39. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Many times the reason that people cry out to God is because they are offended. Offenses happen when someone is hurt. We don’t always mean to hurt others, but it happens. When offenses come it is our job to pray for those we offend. We pray that God would help them to get over the offense, allow them to continue seeking after him uninhibited by our offense, that they would have understanding, and that here would be forgiveness with all parties involved to allow unity to flow freely. It is correct that offenses will come, but we should try not to offend.

Jesus forgive me for ANY offenses I may have caused knowingly or unknowingly. Lord please help there to be understanding that would flow into unity. Lord let us all see after you with a pure heart toward you and those around us. In Jesus name. Amen.

  40. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

I read a article the other day of soilders that were in combat situations that were injured or in distress. And how they called on the name of the lord and he was able to bring peace to them. It’s was moving. Thank you Jesus.

  41. 1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

The tongue; wow. It can cause death and it can bring forth life: lying tongues cause division and war. A true tongue can bring life and save souls from a firey pit.

Pro. 18:21 Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

1 Peter 3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

Pro. 10:19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips [is] wise.
