Psalm 131

Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

  1. Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Let him that exalts himself be abasted and him that is abasted be exalted. I have come too far in my walk with God to believe for a second I’m deserving of anything or be entitled to something. The book of Galatians, Paul is speaking to the church about being born in the spirit and walking in the spirit and not giving credit to the flesh by thinking we are perfected it. Let us be reminded that God placed us here and only God can bring us through this…we are not qualified to do anything he called us to do…we HAVE to have His spirit guiding him.

  2. Verse 3 MSG “Wait, Israel, for God. Wait with hope. Hope now; hope
always!” As we already read in Psalm 39:7 AMP “And now, Lord, for what do I expectantly wait? My hope [my confident expectation] is in You.” As the song says:

My life is in You, Lord
My strength is in You, Lord
My hope is in You, Lord
    In You, it’s in You
    In You, it’s in You
    In You, it’s in You
I will praise You with all of my life
I will praise You with all of my strength
With all of my life, with all of my strength
All my hope is in You

  3. GO IN YOUR COVERING

1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

The FIRST request each day is for JESUS to search my heart and know my thoughts. To examine my FAITH and see if there is any wicked thing in me. Only after prayer and examination of my motives do I exercise my self in the areas and opportunities that GOD has placed before me and that only with the Spiritual Covering of our Pastor.

The psalmist here is identifying with an attitude of humility and we are wise to follow in line with HIS demonstration of spirit and confession of pure motive.

JESUS help me to approach your HOLY face with the honest and sincere profession of the psalmist.

LORD, I don’t believe that I am better than anyone else, nor do I look for and expect things or opportunities that are above my anointing, neither do I involve myself in matters or opportunities that are above my Spiritual authority or knowledge. I GO wherever you send me and am BLESSED and content to serve you.

Thank you JESUS for your anointing in my life today in JESUS name.

  4. A humble spirit is what the Lord looks for. Should we become haughty and high-minded, thinking more of ourselves then we ought, we close the door in our lives for God to use us and work through us.

God can take the humble and make them great.

“Greatness is not found in possessions, power, position or prestige. It is discovered in goodness, humility, service and character.”

  5. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

In the way that David spoke these Psalms, if you look close enough you can see little details of his speech that can wow you.

Verse 1, details the necessity of a humble and contrite heart. Even though he wore the royal garments, he never thought of himself too high that it wasn’t easy for him to take them off and get his praise on!

Verse 2 brings light into his knowledge what is needed to be saved. Jesus would later say:
    Matthew 19:14 KJV
14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
The child like innocents that is needed to be able to not be found guilty in God eyes.

Verse 3 if Israel was ever to succeed at anything, it would have to be in a lifestyle of doing right before the eyes of God. It is the rejection of the man of God and the rejection of the word of God, that brought its demise.

  6. 1. O Eternal One, my heart is not occupied with proud thoughts; my eyes do not look down on others;I don’t even begin to get involved in matters too big, matters of faith, state, business, or the many things that defy my ability to understand them. Voice

    Proverbs 18:12
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. KJV

  7. “Wait, Israel, for GOD. Wait with hope. Hope now; hope always!”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭131:3‬ ‭MSG‬‬

    Hope….. have high expectations.
Wait…… be patient foe things to come.
Disappoint…. remember it’s not on our time but God’s.

“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭27:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  8. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

    Jesus, keep me humble, LORD!

  9. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

If this is how a king in training acts and feels, Lord let me do the same. And if I get haughty or my eyes lofty Lord make me humble again.

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

Let me enter into the spirit of high expectation of what the Lord is doing everyday. And see the Lord’s will come to pass.

  10. 2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

As I sit here and read v2 I do not dare lie and say I have quieted my self! I am the least quiet I know, sometime it is good what I have to say, and others times not so, i can run people out of room and have done so; not intentionally though, by just talking to much, there is a lot of verses that speak on the matter but my favorite is this: Prov: 10:19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. How can I learn when I always have something to say? My hope is in the Lord and I can learn to bridal my tongue and the words or conversation that comes out!

  11. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

I hear these televangelists all the time, but don’t trust in what they say. They seem to exalt themselves and not God. It is true about a haughty heart. I have been there; a haughty heart and pride. They brought me down. Lord help me to have that even soul and be made afresh.

Prov. 16:17 The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

18 Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

  12. 1 My heart is not proud, Lord,
    my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me. NIV

We may have the money to get nice things but being prideful isn’t the Jesus way to be, stay humble!

  13. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

Haughty — proud, arrogant, vain, conceited, snobbish, superior, self-important, pompous, supercilious, condescending.

We need to humble ourselves before the Lord and CRY to Him for He will answer. We can’t go through life thinking we can do it all. Pride or haughtiness, self sufficiency can be the cause of our eternal DEATH!!!! When you are weaning a baby for the first days that baby will scream his head off demanding the love of his mother. They do not care about anything else but to get their mothers milk. We should not care about anything else but to soak outselves in His Presence, commune with Him, and for that there should be no PRIDE in our heart.

  14. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

  15. Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.
    psalms 131:3 kjv

One of the challenges in the Christians walk is the complete reliance in God.

  16. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

We are to come before the Lord with a spirit of humility, the second we begin to think ourselves better than everyone else is the second we begin to fall. The second we try to start taking credit for what God has done through us is the second we begin to fall. Treat everyone equally, give all glory to God, and stay humble!

  17. O Israel, put your hope in the Lord — now and always.
    Psalms 131:3 NLT

Trust in the Lord always for never will forshake he God and God only

  18. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood…
    And again:
A humble and contrite spirit he will not despise
    Ps 51:17
We must stay humble because we know he is able to bring down the proud and humble them himself. (I’d rather not get to the place where God has to do it for me) We each have our place, our purpose and if he decides to elevate us, it will be in his timing not our own. I am content to stay in my place where he can use me.

  19. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

This first verse reminds me of the importance of staying humble. By keeping God up and exalting Him, I keep myself from ever exalting myself or my thoughts above His. I do not want to run the risk of allowing anything to get between me and my walk with God! Surely He is amazing and greater than anything in this world, and I should continually bless and praise His name! We can always look to God! Even as a child of God, we can walk on our own and yet we can still look to Him for guidance and correction in our lives. PRAISE the Lord for His excellent greatness! Let the whole earth be filled with His praises!

  20. Psalms 131:3, “Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.”

My HOPE is in You JESUS! Now and Forever!!

  21. Josiah: 3 Let Israel HOPE IN the Lord from henceforth and for ever.
“from henceforth and for ever” God is our strength and our salvation. Nahum 1:7 says “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in Him.” He is not like man who can be trustworthy for years and then fail you in seconds. God is better than the best friend a person could have. For, who can we turn to at all times of the day besides God? So, let us GO HOPE AND TRUST IN THE LORD “from henceforth and for ever”! Psalms 52:8 says “…I will TRUST IN the mercy of God FOR EVER AND FOR EVER.” LET EVERYTHING THAT HATH BREATH PRAISE THE LORD. PRAISE YE THE LORD!

  22. 3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

My hope is in the Lord.
I lean into your promises for they are sure and everlasring.
I bless you in the name of the Lord!
    His Strength is Perfect

  23. “GOD, I’m not trying to rule the roost, I don’t want to be king of the mountain. I haven’t meddled where I have no business or fantasized grandiose plans.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭131:1‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Power can destroy a man if it’s in the wrong hands. I see a humble man in this verse, this wants me to strive and practice what this king has done. He humbly comes to God even as a king minding his own business. Hallelujah! Allow me to do the same

1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Praise the Lord, it is always better to be humble in the Kingdom of God rather than to be proud. In the Kingdom of Heaven the fastest way up is through humility.

Mark 9:35 KJV And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

  25. Jesus declared that the meek shall inherit the earth! This was not an empty claim but a revelation of what is needed in our heart to succeed in the kingdom of God. This psalm shows another aspect of that declaration: ‘Lord, my heart is not haughty nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.’ Meekness is but the first step in our maturity. It is what allows us to listen and to learn and gain the wisdom we need… but we are not too be eternally dependent upon another. All of us must be born into his kingdom but we need to mature beyond that birth. We need to be weaned from the milk and go on to the meatier matters in the kingdom of God. We need to go from being fed to feeding others. It is when that transformation is made that we can with assurance join in the conclusion of that Psalm: ‘Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.’

  26. Humility

Be humble. Wow. In a generation where we think that we are all that. We are nothing.without God. Go ahead, breathe without God. We need him, for everything that we do. How have we gotten away from thanking God in all things? Once we understand and realize what we can and can’t do without God. We 2ill become more humble. Young people plainly put we are nothing with out God.
#GODOSOMETHING for God and be humble.

  27. I Love To Worship The Lord

God I’m not trying to rule the roost I ont want to be the king of the mountain I haven’t meddled where I have no business or have grandiose plains.

  28. Hannah: “1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.” Never be so prideful of what you have done. Always be thankful of what the Lord has done for your life because without him you wouldn’t be where you are today. The Lord that giveth is the same Lord that taketh away.He does everything for a reason and never place doubt in your heart of what he can do. Let the Lord take care of your situation because he can do the impossible and unimaginable. Always stay humble and place him first in your life, and never place yourself above anyone else. Be a vessel unto the Lord and he can take your broken vessel and make it whole. Let the Lord shape and mold you for what he wants you to be and not what the world wants you to be. Always place the Lord first in your life and let him guide you and take care of every trial that you go through.

  29. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

    Proverbs 6:16-19King James Version (KJV)

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

  30. v3 Let Israel hope in the LORD from hence forth and for ever.

HE has Risen! Death is not final , for JESUS CHRIST is the conqueror of death.
HE IS COMING back some day soon.

  31. 3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

Lord my soul hopes in thee for all my days! My faith is high in expectancy when you are in the midst of me. Nothing is impossible with you! I can pray for things that will come to pass! Thank you Jesus!

  32. 3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.
Israels hope is in the Lord and so should our hope be. Our help is not found in things it’s not found in possessions but it is found in the Lord Jesus!

I bless you in the name of the Lord Jesus!

  33. 2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

The best teaching your mother ever gave you was to keep your mouth shut. The Bible says to study to be quiet. Keeping your mouth shut will keep you out of the biggest percentage of messes. If you don’t believe me just try it sometime.

This is good advice. When someone makes you crazy with their terrible attitude just keep smiling, keep your mouth shut and move on.

  34. 3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

Look not to yourself but trust in God for what you need and what he wants to do in you.

  35. This chapter is about humility. There is no comfort in humility. It is not boastful or proud. It doesn’t draw attention to itself. Humility means taking responsibility for your actions and not just blaming others.

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  36. Psalm 131:3 (English Amp) O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forever. Lord, My hope is in the Lord now and forever. I will lean on your promises.

  37. 2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

When we were spiritual babies we drank milk in the Spirit. The more we are nurtured we have two choices to continue to be continent having it given to us or declare our independence. We need Jesus and he is our source but we know how to get fed with a more variety of fruits.

  38. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.
