Proverbs 2

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

  1. Wisdom is a God-given gift, but only given to those who earnestly seek it. God’s wisdom is hidden from the rebellious and foolish, it takes effort to find it and use it.

  2. Verses 1-6 AMP “My son, IF YOU WILL receive my words And treasure my commandments within you, So that your ear is attentive to [skillful and godly] wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding [seeking it conscientiously and striving for it eagerly]; Yes, if you cry out for insight, And lift up your voice for understanding; If you seek skillful and godly wisdom as you would silver And search for her as you would hidden treasures; Then you will understand the [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] And discover the knowledge of God. For THE LORD GIVES [skillful and godly] wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” If WE WILL receive His words and treasure His commandments, then the LORD WILL give us what we need and open up our understanding.

  3. 10When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
    11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    I think we underestimate the power of discretion at times, in the world we live in and in these days, discretion is not just importance but it is vital. There are too many people playing church or toying on both sides of the fence. In these times there can be many moments where we just dont know what to do. Learning to one these words of wisdom. Leaning to use wisdom and discretion is what can save us from many regrets in those moments.

  4. 2 Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.

    3 Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.

    4 Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. NLT

    Wisdom and understanding, like silver and hidden treasures, aren’t just lying around for all to see; the have to be strongly desired and sought for by those who realize and appreciate their value.

  5. GO WITH GOD

    9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
    10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
    11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    With every medicine there are potential side effects and with every action there are potential reactions. A similar application can be applied spiritually. We find 4 attributes listed here that can effectively be applied to our walk with GOD that will affect the outcome of our future.

    Wisdom
    Knowledge
    Discretion
    Understanding

    Wisdom (the application of knowledge) enters into the heart. We keep our heart with all diligence because from it flows the issues of LIFE.

    Knowledge brings a peace to the soul. To know something means to be confident or persuaded of something. Psalms 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

    Discretion will preserve us. Discretion or the determination to decide the right thing or make the right decision will preserve or give us endurance for our walk.

    Understanding will keep us. Keep us close to the heart of GOD. Occasionally understanding may be the fact that we may never understand a situation or circumstance. Most importantly understanding that JESUS is GOD and HE can do whatever HE wants, whenever HE wants and it will eventually work for my good.

    We are progressing to understand righteousness and judgement when we apply these principals to our walk with JESUS.

  6. Proverbios-2:1 al 3 Haz tuyas mis palabras, hijo mío;
    guarda en tu mente mis mandamientos.
    Presta oído a la sabiduría;
    entrega tu mente a la inteligencia.
    Pide con todas tus fuerzas
    inteligencia y buen juicio.

  7. 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

    11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    Sometimes in life we tend to make snap decisions with out any knowledge of what we are getting ourselves into, Reading this, I was able to remember some instances where I didnt know what i was getting myself into, and just went head first into a situation! I beleve that using wisdom at that point would have been great! Im always so happy to please people, and if I think they are mad at me I get mad at myself, and then I kind back on out of a persons life, just to find out they were never mad, and they were dissapointed, but its too late at that point, if I would of used wisdom, I would have maybe asked if there was something wrong and then prayed about the situation, the thing is how can I have wisdom if I dont pray and seek God which will give me wisdom for a situation or his word if I dont ask!

  8. 8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
    9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

    There is a lot to be said about discretion. Here it is how you apply it. Discretion shall preserve thee. There are things that I need to be discreet about when it comes to the kingdom of God. This is not something to take lightly. Without discretion where would I be. Back in the world; God doesn’t play when it comes to the things about His house. He will give knowledge and wisdom to those that will seek Him, but He is not a toy that you can play with when you want to. God is our salvation and each need to seek out our own salvation. I have to be mindful of how I treat the things of God’s house and His word. Thank you Jesus for giving me the discretion to watch how I treat your kingdom.

    Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  9. 1 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

    Wisdom – the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.

    Applying the principles of God’s word to our lives, will cause us to make decisions that not only healthy for our spirit, but also pleasing to God.

    In a world where everyone wants to do their own thing, and few want to sacrifice their will for the will and ways of the Lord, it’s important that we take to heart the wisdom of the Word, search it out and discover how to apply it to our lives.

  10. 1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

    2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

    3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

  11. Wisdom will save you from evil people, from those whose words are twisted.
    Proverbs 2:12 NLT

    You get wisdom by reading the word but not just reading it but get into the word

  12. 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

    9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

    If we seek after knowledge, God will then give us understanding of His word and why we live this righteous lifestyle. When seeking after knowledge we will begin to understand why there are some thing we must stay away from and others we must pursue! Lord fill my heart and mind with wisdom!

  13. 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
    Taking heed to thy word is where you shall find understanding. Don’t be too selective with what you’re listening to. When you see that gray hair it’s obvious those people have wisdom. I’m gonna listen to someone that’s been on this earth for 40+ years I mean if they made it this far they gotta have some wisdom.
    May the Lord bless you in the name of Jesus

    1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

    Wisdom would save a lot of folks a lot of heart breaks and stress. Wisdom is what propelled Solomon into greatness. However, wisdom alone cannot save folks. We find Solomon falling from the very wisdom he received of God.

  15. It is easy sometimes to gloss over a verse, even in agreement, without capturing it’s full impact. The opening verse here strikes me as such a verse: just an opening statement to what the proverb is trying to say. But imagine the passion of a father as he implores his son ‘if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;’ If you’ll just take the time to listen to what I have to say, there are some things I’ve learned along the way that can spare you some grief in your own life. You’re going to have to take them to heart for them to do you any good… that’s why they need to be safely hidden within… not just something that you’ve heard and nodded your head in agreement. That is the setting of the proverb: not a passive agreement but a passionate plea to take these words of wisdom seriously and allow them to bring about a change in your life like only God can do!

    With that thought in mind, ‘incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;’ notice again the effort required to apply it to yourself. In fact if your desire is strong enough ‘Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.’ Your heart and soul need to cry out for more! When you hear a hungry soul crying unto the Lord at the altar, it speaks of a desire for more! Just like a babe in the flesh crying out for food, the soul is crying out for more of God. That’s the desire we need burning within. It needs to surpass our desire for material gain if we’re truly going to find and understand the knowledge and wisdom of God! Until he means more to us than the physical things of this world we can’t really expect an abundance of spiritual treasures to be had within. The wisdom of God is something that needs to be sought. ‘And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.’

  16. Proverbs 2
    11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    Discretion: the quality of behaving aND speaking in such a way that it avoids causing of offense or revealing confidential information.
    In our walk with God we must obtain wisdom,discretion. As we reach the world they are longing for someone who can lead them with confidence. Being able to reveal their most inward feelings. We can share what God has done in our life as an instrument. Understanding that God will use you as you speak into someone’s life. Thank you for those who led me along the way. Thank You Lord for preserving my life and for opening my understanding to your word.

    His Strength is Perfect

  17. 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    Oh yes lord! With Discretion we choose our words wisely, for the tounge is the most powerful weapon we have. Our tounge can bring someone up or even tear them down. We need to have Discretion with our words daily. For wisdom comes when speaking to others. We need to choose our words wisely. The lord has all knowledge and “understanding” with understanding we can prevail! Thank You Jesus!

  18. “He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭2:8-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Wisdom is an advantage to the one who possesses it. Wisdom with Knowledge gives a person tremendous advantage. This understanding and discretion is not of the worldly, but of the Lord and His Word. A really good working knowledge of God’s Word can keep you from making mistakes. The answers to all of life’s problems can be found in the Word of God.

  19. 20-21 So—join the company of good men and women, keep your feet on the tried-and-true paths. It’s the men who walk straight who will settle this land, the women with integrity who will last here.

    God guide me on the path you have for me as I seek for knowledge and wisdom. Surrounding myself with your word and the company of your people let them help and direct me closer to you! My heart and mind are filled with passion for knowledge and wisdom, and understanding is to come with your word!

  20. Hannah: “6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.”My God is my shield and in him we are safe. He is the one who protects and guides. To him will I go unto and in him will I trust. He is the one who gives me understanding and wisdom. He is my provider and I am so thankful that he does so much for each and every one of us. He loved us so much that he gave his only begotten son so that we could be saved. He deserves our highest praises and even that wouldn’t be close to how much our Lord deserves. It is my desire that I will never let an opportunity go by to praise my God and to get as close to him as I can.

  21. 17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

    We don’t need to forget our covenant with God so he can guide us with a consistent prayer life!

  22. 1My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
    2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
    3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
    4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
    5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

    In class today I taught about how Abram listened to the voice of God. And how if he would have not listened to the voice of God, that e would have missed out on his blessing. He was promised by God to be prosperous and blessedif he would leave his comfort zone and move on God’s voice.

    I remember when God called my family away from our comfort zone when we moved from Illinois to Texas. The unfamiliar, the unnatural, the uncomfortable. If my family wouldn’t have came to Texas. I don’t know what would have happened. But I’m glad my family listened to the voice of God, because got blessed.
    So #GODOSOMETHING by listening to the voice of God

  23. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.(Proverbs 2:7 KJV)

    In order to be given wisdom and for those that seek it have to be lined up with God. He will keep us rooted for he is our strong foundation. On the Rock we can then walk with him upright in righteousness.

  24. 1 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

    22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

    Wicked wil have their reward but the righteous will also have their reward! God keeps his promise to us living a righteous life in due time we will reap!

  25. Josiah: 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
    4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
    The Bible says in Mathew 7:7 to “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” Sometimes we just have to keep trying. Right after a conference, service, or camp meeting we may get all refreshed. Or, we may get a break through and enter a new dimension in our walk with God. However, let’s not just be content with one break through. Let’s continue to stay on fire for God and keep the fire going. The Bible says to seek and ye shall find. So, let us GO IN JESUS NAME with a continual fire burning in our hearts!

  26. 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
    11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    The wisdom which God gives protects and guides every aspect of our lives. We will no longer be easily influenced by the temporal things of this world that can cause us to walk away from Jesus or when worse, to cause another soul to stumble by a worldly testimony. His wisdom will change us to be more like him and to become the light so desperately needed in the this world today

  27. Proverbs 2:2 (English Amp) Making your ear attentive to skillful and godly . Wisdom and including and directing your heart and mind to understaning [ applying all your powers to the quest for it] ,Be careful of what you are listening to. Ask God for guildness and for better understanding. Study and read his word. I bless you in the name of Jesus Christ.

  28. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
    Proverbs 2:2‭-‬3 NLT

    5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

    6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

  29. 1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

    2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

    3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

    4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

    5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

    Hypocrites have an inclination of the ear, without an application of the heart. Many times we will find that our hearts desire is often different from the words of wisdom that have been spoken to us. We must learn to allow wisdom to lead us. I’ve said it a million times; feeling will fail you more often than biblically sound doctrin.

  30. 22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

    GOD’S MERCY AND GRACE IS SOOOO GREAT MY MIND CANNOT FATHOM!!! THANK YOU JESUS, FOR BRINGING ME OUT!!!

  31. 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    When we practice discretion we are protecting ourselves from anything that could destroy us. Understanding helps us to know if we are operating in God’s will or according to the flesh.

  32. Wisdom As A Woman

    Personifying important truths is a device used all throughout literature and also in Scripture. Here, wisdom is portrayed as a woman who calls out to the young men in the public square, just as prostitutes do (Pr 7:10-12). Which voice will they heed: wisdom or folly? Can they tell the difference? Both voices are sweet, but only one leads to life and godliness. The implication is that we are always being pulled in opposing directions- toward sin by our culture, and toward righteousness by the Word of God. Our job is to discern the path of life, personified as a wise woman we can trust. Some of the pagan cultures in Biblical times mistakenly defied this feminine image rather than recognizing it as an attribute of God himself.

  33. Following the ways of wisdom protects it’s adherents from “wicked men” and their perverse and wicked ways (Pr 2:12-15). But the ways of wisdom can also provide protection against “the adulteress” (vs 16) literally “stranger” or “foreigner”. She is a married woman who has forgotten her marriage vows and will work her seduction on anyone who is foolish enough to give her attention. Her appeal is subtle and alluring (Pr 7:14-21), and following her will only bring disaster. In a culture as permissive and pervasively sexual as ours today, following Lady Folly rather than Lady Wisdom is as seductive and disastrous a course as it was in Biblical times. The way to her house still leads “down to death” (vs 18), the death of marriage, faithfulness and trust.

  34. 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

    Understanding the fear of the Lord is liken to an active search for wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. It will take action for us to really fear God. Our God is alive and is not a statue therefore it take an alive action of search to find Him. We must have an active relationship of searching to know Him to fully come to fear, honor and reverence Jesus.

  35. “So follow the steps of the good, and stay on the paths of the righteous.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭2:20‬ ‭NLT‬

    If only we could follow the steps of the good. If only we could stay on the paths of righteous, we would save ourselves so much heartache.

    Nevertheless, we all stumble and struggle, and when we arise we dust ourselves off and continue on the process of living for God.

    Verse 13 states “Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;”.

    I’m not the greatest at English or even KJV, But I read that in order to walk in ways of darkness you must first leave the paths of the uprightness.

    So, maybe it wasn’t intentional at first, however the further you walk in the ways of darkness the deeper you go and you come to a point, when you are so far in darkness you can’t see.

    And when asked what happened, the most common answer: I don’t know if just happened.

    Yet, we’ve learned from the above verses that it doesn’t “just happen”, you first had to leave the paths of righteous and begin to walk in the ways of darkness.

    “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” James 1:15

    STOP as soon as you notice you’ve stopped following the steps of the good, for the only thing that sin leads to is death.

  36. 1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
    2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
    3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
    4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
    5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

    I’m seeking and I’m searching God; help me to have knowledge and understanding.

  37. Proverbs 2

    “He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    You don’t need to defend yourself if your doing the right thing. If you live by the word, hen he word will be your defense.

  38. “Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭2:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    There are those who who walk away from the straight and narrow. The pain of it is we may know and love them. We have to seek after the wisdom of the Lord in situations of pain. We can not be swayed off our path. We know that if we continue on the the path of uprightness then we are walking in wisdom after the Lord.

  39. Proverbs 2

    7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
    11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    Wisdom is a defense and shield. For discretion will keep you from battles you don’t want to fight and places you don’t want to be. Understanding will keep me upright as I will know why they are coming and where they are going. And keep me from the snares that are set. May I gain more fear of the Lord so that may increase in all these. And give God glory and honor.

  40. 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
    11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
    12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

  41. 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

    12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

    13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

    14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

    15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

    16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
