Proverbs 18

Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

  1. Unfriendly people care only about themselves; they lash out at common sense. Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions. The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
    Proverbs 18:1‭-‬2‭, ‬10‭, ‬24 NLt

We can’t afford to be unfriendly but we must go out and reach the Lost we can’t be selfish about ourselves work at my job for 6 month now and I learn the way you present yourself is the way people will see you me don’t have time for bad attitude Jesus is coming soon and we need to Go and reach

  2. The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, but who can bear a broken spirit? Blessed be the name of the Lord.

  3. Verse 3 CEV “It’s stupid and embarrassing to give an answer before you listen.” Same verse TLB ” What a shame—yes, how stupid!—to decide before knowing the facts!” Listening with an open mind can be hard if you have already made your mind up! Proverbs 22:17 AMP says “Listen carefully and hear the [a]words of the wise, And apply your mind to my knowledge;”. Psalm 85:8 CEV says “I will listen to you, Lord God, because you promise peace to those who are faithful and no longer foolish.”

  4. 1 Whoever pulls away from others to focus solely on his own desires disregards any sense of sound judgment. Voice

When you want to pull away from your brothers and sisters, that is when you need to be among them the most.

  5. Fools only desire themselves . they don’t care about anyone . it also states that if a man finds a wife he finds a good thing . us ladies are a good thing . remember there’s a friend that sticks closer than a brother. And his name is JESUS

  6. It is very important to watch what you say. Your words can bring life ir death. You don’t want to bring anyone down just because you felt like you had to say something. We must learn to be wise a take control of what goes past our lips.

  8. 21 En la lengua hay poder de vida y muerte;
quienes la aman comerán de su fruto. 24 Hay amigos[b] que llevan a la ruina,
y hay amigos más fieles que un hermano.

  9. Josiah: 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
The Lord is our strength and our refuge. Not this world but, God, He is our refuge. Psalms 46:1 says “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Although God can protect us I do not want to just seek God when there is something going on. Psalms 34:1 says “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalms 62:8 says “Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” So, let is GO ALWAYS SEEKING GOD!

  10. 15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

I was told, as I was growing in the Lord with great zeal and desired to take massive strides in ministry, that the time and opportunity would come. My old pastor used to tell me that my gifts would make room for me and I didn’t need to tell anyone about what I did. Through these words I witnessed this scripture manifest itself in my life. I have had the privilege of standing next to some mighty men of God and even now, God has brought me here to serve and I have met and been given opportunity to serve them. All it takes is being patient and letting God open the doors…

  11. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Always be mindful of what you say

  12. 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
In order to have friends you must be kind and welcoming to people. You must show mercy and forgiveness and simply treat others how you want to be treated. If you do these things you will be blessed with multiple friends.

  13. There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks
closer than a brother. Proverbs 18: 24 NLT
In a society that is so divided , we( the church) needs to love one another. Starts with me, I cannot give something that I don’t have.

  14. In the Word not of It
24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

We just like Jesus walk through this world evryday. We must be friendly make friends. We have to reach the lost and the way to do that is to be a friend. Be there to listen to encourage to.share what God has done for you.

  15. 5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

Know the enemy and know that he has no power except what is given to him by our own fleshly desires.

  16. 15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

What are you feeding your heart? What you our ears seek to hear? Guard yourself and seek after the things of God.

  17. 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

  18. 17 Any story sounds true until someone tells the other side and sets the record straight.

Gossip and lies are only good as long as the person being deceived only knows one side of the story. We have heard many times if someone wants to share a story about someone or something someone said to immediately include the person being talked about in the conversation. Most of the time, the deceiver loses interest in telling stories.

  19. 1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

Spiritual maturity is found through prayer, fasting and the Word. We must “separate” ourselves from distractions and things that take our time that aren’t going to matter on judgement day, if we want to grow in the spirit. Everyone has great potential to be highly anointed and used of God. It’s up to us to obtain that anointing by giving of ourselves to the Lord in prayer and fasting. Every anointed person paid the price in some manner for that anointing, and we cannot receive that power, authority and anointing any other way.

  20. iLove to Go Blog
20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Life and death are in the power of our mouth. We must always remember to speak positively. We must build folks up as well as build ourselves up. We must speak increase, speak fruitfulness, speak growth, speak healing, speak up and speak praise. When we speak to our peers, we must speak about our brothers and sisters in a positive light and lift one another up.

  21. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

The tounge can be used as a powerful weapon. You can either destroy a life or change a life, choose wisely what you say, you never know who you can be impacting with your words!

  22. GO IN POWER AND KEEP LIFE

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Contained in this chapter is great wisdom concerning the tongue.

On a personal level the words we speak and the way we speak them are the major factor concerning our condition of life and even our salvation.

On a global level, the words we speak and the way we speak them have much to do with the condition of life and even the salvation of the lost.

It is my belief that our Father created us with the tongue to communicate with and praise HIS great name JESUS. However since sin entered the garden through the tongue of the serpent, we have dealt with the harm of harsh and painful words that cut deep and leave scars.

Choose today to use our tongue to PRAISE the LORD JESUS and to speak LIFE to those that are around us that may be hurting or lost.

  23. 20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
We can talk talk talk all day long, but are the words that we are saying helpful, are they helping encouraging, kind, or are they only what makes us feel good, or are they flattering someone to get what we want,
the first part talks about the fruit of his lip my touch bible says that fruit is the produce of the ground, or offspring of the womb or fruit of actions! Increase it says is the product of crops, income, gain, product of lips! I want to fill my belly with the word of God and food that I earned, not with false flattery that isn’t going to amount to anything!

  24. Proverbs 18:24
“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

What a Friend We Have In JESUS.
He will always be with us. He said, “… I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

  25. A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
    Proverbs 18:2‭-‬3 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/pro.18.2-3.KJV

This word ignominy stood out to me.
7036. qalon (kaw-lone’) in the strongs it means to dishonor, disgrace, or shame. It comes from the word qalah.

Man to disgrace yourself before God. What a foolish thing to do. Bide your tongue man; put away your foolish ways. Get understanding and wisdom. GO and GrOw in the word. Get away from the ways of man. You will not learn about you and what God has for you by the way if man; unless you are learning how to seek God from a mighty man of God. This is what I say to myself in my mind constantly. I have to; this is what keeps me focused on God and His word. Since I have been doing the blog daily; it reminds me that I am not that fool anymore. God entrusts me with His word. It is up to me where I go with it.

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease. He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.
    Proverbs 22:10‭-‬11 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/pro.22.10-11.KJV

Thank you Jesus for leading me and keeping me.

  26. Proverbs 18:24 (English Amp) The man of many friends [a friend of the world ] will prove himself a bad friend, But there is a friend, who sticks closer than a brother. This friend is Jesus he will never forsake you of leave you. What a mighty God we serve. To know that this the best friend that anybody can have. I pray that families would will find him.

  27. 19 An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city.
Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.

When I read this scripture I was reminded of the story of Joseph and the sermon series Pastor preached from the Pit to the Palace. Specifically, the service when he had a group of men act out the scene of Joseph being thrown into the pit.

At that moment Joseph could not see the plan God had for his life. He didn’t see the molding that was taking place in his life from these circumstances.
As the story continues we see in the end that Joseph truly forgives his own brothers that sold him.

It’s hard to imagine that your friends/family would not want the best for you, and at times can feel as if they have “sold you out”. However, if Joseph can not only forgive his brothers but bless them, we too can look at the opportunity of growth that has been provided.

  28. 8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

This is why pastor preaches against gossip for, seemingly harmless they do great harm as a wound into the innermost parts of the belly. Where stomach acid or waste would leak through the body causing a slow agonizing death. Which is why I follow pastor and do not gossip. And pray that I would not be a part of it, in hearing or doing.

  29. 13 Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.

So many live to jump to conclusions before knowing all the facts. The biggest culprit is the media. They always want to be the first to break the news. Usually a few days later they are wrong. Lets think first, before saying anything, and it will keep you out of trouble.

  30. 15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

  31. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

The attitude and the way we speak can hurt or favor us or others. If the intent was for good but caused harm then it wasn’t of God. The Holy Ghost would of convicted the heart to avoid bad spiritual attacks. Death sets in the tongue if your not careful to pray and seek God first before you speak.

24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Showing yourself friendly to a complete stranger or acquaintance shows respect. But a true friend is the one that truly loves you he would lay his life for you just like your own brother would.

  32. 24. A man that friends must shew himself friendly : and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Thank you Jesus for being my friend !!!!

  33. The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.

The righteous are those that run to God when in trouble. Those that run to Him are safe because without God we are nothing!!! My God is the strong tower that I need when I am drowning in the things of this world! There is no other road to take when lost but to GO to Jesus!!!

  34. I Love To Worship The Lord
    vs-19
It is harder to win back the friendship of a offended brother than to capture a fortified city. His anger shuts you out like iron bars
This is very true from my own mistakes i have offended brothers through the years now i am more careful i still slip up sometimes and make it right as soon as i can

  35. 6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

  36. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

You need someone too lean on?? Lean on Jesus!! He is a friend you can always lean on in times of trouble!

  37. 24. A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Jesus is that friend we can count on and know that he will be there for us. In the good times and the bad times he is there.

  38. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

When people are already wounded even seemingly small words could cause them to die. We have to absolutely watch what we say to those on the fringes. Even saying the right thing to them could come at the wrong time and ensue distraction. This is why it is wise to run any word you feel for someone by the pastor first, he knows whether or not it is the right time. One word in the wrong time could bring death while the same word in the right timing could bring life.

  39. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

We say so many things in just ‘talking’ and without thinking how our words could affect someone else. When we offend our brother or sister, we can cause them to erect walls around their hearts to keep us out. In the church it’s more critical because we could cause someone to reject this precious truth due to words spoken without thinking or knowing their effect to those listening.

  40. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

JESUS! If you take everything from me I still have all I need because man cannot take Jesus away. I’m fully persuaded that Jesus is all I need. In life’s greatest moments and in the worst of times Jesus is all I need.

  41. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

Wounded spirits are terrible things they have deep dark roots that stick to the soul. Licking those wounds births grudges and cradles hate. They kill promises and moves of God..because we can only serve one master. Sure it’s easy to say sorry after a wrong doing but wounds don’t heal that fast. They build up walls and bars to guard themselves, so how do we reach them? Repentance is the righteous way.. wise teaching says ” Don’t just tell me your sorry, show me.” It takes action. Cities weren’t built in a day and wounded brothers weren’t either. Many are offended by saints either deliberately or unintentionally and if they are not rooted into the church it can cause them to stumble. Our job is to not be a stumbling block but to encourage and build, winning back the backsliders, edifying the body.

  42. 1Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

My thought comes from vs.2, but that his heart may discover itself… In this generation. We hear it often said, I need to go somewhere and find myself. My surrounds aren’t conducive for me to find myself.
Well I found you, you are standing right in front of me. If your that lost where you can’t find yourself. Maybe you need to invest in a mirror. Why does this generation need to find themselves? Is it because their parents haven’t done a good enough job training them? Or maybe it’s our school system and the teacher not doing their jobs proper. Or it may even be the police officer going down the road trying to stay alive on our crazy world.may I suggest that it’s a lack of Love for God. A lack of commitment in our world to God.
I have a coworker who has a son. My coworker is 22 and his some isn’t quite 2 yet. The dad wants to take him, his son, and his ex on a family vacation. Yet the reason why he wants to bring his ex is not so that she can have a good time, but when the dad wants to go do something by himself that she can watch his son. If your confused, you would he correct. What is the thought process in this.
It’s because that dad wants to find himself in the vacation. We want people there yet you have to give me space, attitude.
Get rid of that stinking thinking. That is not of God. We must be of a sound mind and know who.he is and who we are too.
#GODOSOMETHING by having a sound mind.

  43. “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I was sitting with my boss and coworkers today having a meeting. There was some tension as changes were made that effected plans that were already carried out. Our team leader was deep in discussion about the abruptness of the change. Our boss began to try to make it less abrasive. I cracked a joke. Not only did it lighten the mood, but it changed the entire focus of the group. People were no longer holding their mouth in disapproval, but now they were smiling. Our boss even commented on how it helped the whole group. Sometimes what fills our bellies flows over onto those around us too.

  44. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.(Proverbs 18:12 KJV)

If pride comes before the fall then humility comes before building. Thinking more highly of ourselves than we should takes away credit and praise that is due to God. Humbleness isn’t being a coward or a softy it’s a strength God can work with. It’s decreasing that He may increase through us.

  45. There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
    Proverbs 18:24 NLT

Some of my best friends I know longer call friends anymore. They are family

  46. I 13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
