Proverbs 22

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

12 The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein.

15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

19 That thy trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

23 For the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

  1. That this chapter is saying is God is first if put him first you won’t have worry about anything but if you put the things of this world first you will find yourself worry about worldly things

  2. I Love To Worship The Lord
    Vs. 26-27
Unless you have the xtra cash on hand don’t countersigned a note Why risk everything you own they will even take your bed

  3. Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is
better than silver or gold. Proverbs 22: 1 NLT

  4. Verse 2 MSG “The rich and the poor shake hands as equals—God made them both!” Same verse AMP “The rich and poor have a common bond;
The Lord is the Maker of them all.”

Galatians 3:28 “In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ. Also, since you are Christ’s family, then you are Abraham’s famous “descendant,” heirs according to the covenant promises.”

  5. Josiah: 2 The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
God died for lives who are abundant with worldly riches as much as He also died for people who have not an abundance of the riches of this world. To be saved does not require these things, it is having Godly wealth. Storing our treasures in heaven and offering our talents, time, and toil for His kingdom is the route to getting spiritually richer. God values the Godly over the ungodly. In the end it is simplistic. Was your life in the end opposing or, part of the kingdom of God? This is why we should “Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.” So, let us GO GAIN in the kingdom of God. Let us GO ON OUTREACH!

  6. We like to think that we can work with anyone, but that is really only true if their heart is willing. When we find ourselves shackled with those who just aren’t engaged and yet have a criticism of everything we do, the wisdom of this proverb declares: ‘Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.’ This may seem harsh on the surface, but even the business world has come to recognize that one bad apple can truly spoil an entire bushel. Sometimes for growth to occur, a pruning is required. Our response is to make certain that our heart does not align us with those that are holding back the work; that we are truly giving it our all. ‘He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.’

God has not left us helpless in this regard. If we’re truly willing to receive his correction and be instructed in his ways, ‘Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?’ He has provided us with excellence! If we receive and follow his perfect example, he assures us that we can obtain that place in our walk with him that we are truly certain of his truth! There is no longer any doubt, there aren’t any lingering questions, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says or what we’re going through, we are certain of his truth! So what do we do with it? Feed my sheep! Take that certainty of conviction and knowledge and deliver that bread of his Word of Truth to all whom he would send into our hands. Give it to the poor and needy in spirit that they might be filled!

  7. 4 True humility and fear of the LORD lead to riches, honor, and long life.

Humble–not proud or arrogant; modest; courteously respectful; having a feeling of insignificance, inferiority, subservience

Why cant we all have a humble spirit? Having a relationship with God, humility will come easy. Having patience and a serving attitude will go a long way. Others will see these qualities in you, and will respect you.

  8. 5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Life is full of thorns and snared and thistles and all sorts of road blocks. If we keep our walk on the path of Righteousness those set backs will come along every now and agin, but will be over powered by the power of the Holy Ghost. Thank you Jesus!

  9. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

It doesn’t say that they will not depart from the way they should go it means that they will not depart from what they know is the way. This is a scripture that gives the responsibility of what a child is supposed to be trained in from the parent. It could be easily misconstrued into believing that it’s saying if a parent does his job right that a child will grow up going the right direction, and it can easily bring disappointments. But that is where we must use discernment and proper interpretation that the Bible is just simply stating that it is our responsibility to teach our children in the way they should go

  10. GO IN HUMILITY

4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

    Who wants to be BLESSED?

BLESSED in life, among people and in riches. I believe this is a goal in part or whole to most people that are in the Kingdom of GOD. There are certain places in the WORD of GOD that JESUS gives simple, plain and clear instructions. This verse is one of them.

Not by hard work or great sacrifice; although we should continue in these. Not by chance or rich inheritance; however these could be a source.

    The simple path to BLESSING!

    1. HUMILITY
    2. FEAR of the LORD

Lets GO have a BLESSED day.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo

  11. iLove to Go Blog
Proverbs 22:5 KJV Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Wow, check out this scripture… The key word is “keep”. He that doth ‘keep’ his soul shall be far from them. The word “keep” is the following

    Keep
    שָׁמַר
    shâmar
    shaw-mar’
A primitive root; properly to hedge about (as with thorns), that is, guard; generally to protect, attend to, etc.: – beware, be circumspect, take heed (to self), keep (-er, self), mark, look narrowly, observe, preserve, regard, reserve, save (self), sure, (that lay) wait (for), watch (-man).

Notice that “keep” means to hedge in with thorns. Wow, think about it. Thorns and briers were part of the original curse. This proverb is telling me to not be affected by the curse and instead keep my ways pure and that will keep me safe.

  12. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
We are charged with a great responsibility to train up our children in how they should go. The ways of the world are contrary and even antagonistic to the ways of God. The world will shape our children to be like this world if we do not give a consistent example of how God desires us to be. Our children are constantly watching us and will be molded by both our words and actions. How much more important is it to live a Godly life and be the example our children do desperately need. .
They will reach a point in their life where they must decide for themselves to serve the Lord with all their heart, soul and mind. It is our responsibility to train them up in the ways of God and not in the ways of the world. Their very souls depend upon it.

  13. HANDLE YOUR OWN BUSINESS

I learned years ago this principal through revelation. Some of my close friends were divided over some money and a small loan. I went to the Bible to seek a word for them and here is what I found.

    NLT
26 Don’t agree to guarantee another person’s debt
or put up security for someone else.
27 If you can’t pay it,
even your bed will be snatched from under you.
28 Don’t cheat your neighbor by moving the ancient boundary markers
    set up by previous generations.
29 Do you see any truly competent workers?
    They will serve kings
rather than working for ordinary people.

It is unwise to loan and especially cosign for someone elses loan, unless you are willing to pay the entire debt. Consider this for wisdom; if the bank or credit card professional will not loan them money, because they do not feel like they would be repaid, why should I.

Verse 28 reveals the character of many borrowers, they attempt to move the boundaries of the agreement for personal benefit.

Verse 29 reveals how to GROW a business. Be DILIGENT (detailed, faithful and honest).

Lets GO HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS and be BLESSED.

  14. Proverbs 22:4 (NLT)
“True humility and fear of the LORD, lead to riches, honor, and long life.”

This made me think of the story of king Solomon.
God said to him, “Ask what I shall give thee.”
Solomon replied, “Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
The saying pleased the LORD. God said, “Because thou have asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself Long Life; neither hast asked for Riches for thyself, nor hast asked for the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment: Behold, i have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both Riches, and Honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.” (1 Kings 3:9-13)

At one time, king Solomon had a humble heart and fear of God, and because of it, God gave him Riches and Honor.
We too must keep a humble heart before God and fear Him. When we seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; all these things shall be added unto us. (St. Matt. 6:33)

Stay Humble before God and Fear Him, and you’ll be Blessed by Him.

  15. Make no friendship with an angry man, and with a furious man do not go. Lest you learn his ways, and set a snares for your self. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

  16. 28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

As we look around our world today and see the turmoil that has been created by some wanting to change history by removing reminders of where we have come from. It is imperative that we value the ancient landmarks set before us by our spiritual forefathers and recognize we can’t change the purpose they were established. It saddens my heart to see people that have lived fervently for God for years, now lay aside things in their life that they once stood for, much like our world is doing, tearing down things that they don’t like. We can’t pick and choose which part of the Word we are willing to follow. We must follow it all. Let’s not spend time tearing apart what we don’t like and find other ways to do it better and less sacrificial, let’s put all those efforts in to living for God with all our heart, mind and soul. Eternity will have great rewards for those who give their all.

  17. 17 Listen to the words of the wise; apply your heart to my instruction.
18 For it is good to keep these sayings in your heart and always ready on your lips.
19 I am teaching you today – yes, you – so you will trust in the Lord. (NLT)

Listen and then apply; what good is it to receive something and then not make use of it? God is always teaching, always speaking and it’s up to us to listen, to learn and then apply so as His word says, we can trust. God will not always reveal things in full, but just enough for us to lean on, just enough for us to take Him at His word.

  18. 4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

Blessings come through humility and respect/obedience to the Lord!

  19. TIME TO CHANGE:

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
    Proverbs 22:28‭-‬29 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/pro.22.28-29.KJV

As I read and reread these passages: the thought stood out to me. What about living your life according to the book of Proverbs. At home and in business; I believe that it can be accomplished. Every day we chose how to live our lives; I chose to today to start studying Proverbs and seeing how living through this book can change how I do a lot of things. There are still areas that I struggle with, but maybe; just maybe this will change how I think, talk, and act. My prayer today Father is to open my mind and heart to the book of Proverbs. Guide and lead me in the way of your words.

Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  20. 1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

God desires us to respect one another. Our motives for the love of money is not of God.

  21. 1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
2 The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.

You’re no better than your neighbor.

What makes us think that we are better than someone else? What makes us entitled? We are no better than anyone else. From the begged on the street to the riches man in the world. We will all be judged by the same book. Great and small,no one is exempt. This is why a good name is rather to be chosen. Because with a good name there is integrity and honor. And that will get you far in life and in the kingdom. Have a good name, have integrity, have blessings in your life.
This was one of my dad’s favorite verses. This is what he lived his life as honorable with integrity.
#GODOSOMETHING by having a good name.

  22. 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished

If you are wise you will think twice about your decisions what you allow yourself to do and where you allow yourself to go. We have to remember that whatever we do and wherever we go we are a witness to this world. So let our light so shine in a way that is an Apostolic witness everywhere we go because if not we will be punished for our mistakes.

  23. Hannah: “17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.” The words of the wise will get you far but the foolish will get you behind. Trust in the Lord and walk on his path. I am always so thankful that the Lord is faithful and he will stand by each of us in our times of trouble and in our times of joy. He is my God and each of us always need to place him first in our daily walk with him. Bless the Lord and always continue in his ways.

  24. 28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

There is always something we can learn from history or from the past. In man’s history, we can learn from their mistakes and carry forward their triumphs. In our Spiritual history we must be diligent to keep the faith that ‘was once delivered to the saints.’

  25. 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Sometimes if we look at what the world tells us is ok then we feel like we are overbearing or too careful. The world tells us that we are ruining our children this way. But a prayerful, prudent servant will look to God’s Word for direction and guidance. We hide ourselves from evil things. Thank you, Lord, for keeping us safe. Grant us wisdom to know the difference between good and evil and to hate the appearance of anything that opposes Your throne. Keep us as the apple of Your eye and hide us under the shadow of Your wings.

  26. 1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Saying your Christian has become cliché. No longer do people know or understand what you mean because there has been so many different beliefs that identify as Christian that are not alike at all.

I’m glad that I can still be identified by what the Christians in the first century. There was no controversy on what a Christian was in the Bible times. They were all One God, Holy Ghost filled, tongue talking, devil stomping, signs and wonders, Jesus name Apostolic Pentecostals.

So I chose this great name, Jesus, rather than anything else in this world!

  27. Proverbios 22: 3El avisado ve el mal y se esconde;
Mas los simples pasan y reciben el daño. 6 Instruye al niño en su camino,
Y aun cuando fuere viejo no se apartará de él.

  28. 5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

  29. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

When I was reading this passage, this verse stood out to me, I started thinking of friends that were raised in the church and left the church because they thought that they were missing something, But they came back! When we receive the word of God in our lives it dont leave us, I believe that we do as the word says and keep it on our hearts and when we or if we ever leave from the covering of God and look for whatever, greener grass maybe? That truth, The Word of Life comes up and the Holy Ghost draws us back, I beleive that when he says train up a child he is not just talking about children, we are all babes in Christ at one point and from that point we begin to be trained! And we will never depart from it, The Word of God is in us before we even reach the alter!

  30. 11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

12 The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

  31. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
    Amen
I can remember going through some hard times in the past and God speaking to me through the word saying, “Blessed is ye that trust in the Lord”. i immediately fell to my knees and knew i was going through spiritual warfare. That didnt mean it wouuld only be just that battle but it would get harder and harder from here. Another time i had felt as if i climbed out of the pits of hell….i had been struggling, but God gave a word to Ngel Ali to give to me and he said plain as day, “when youre struggling it means something great is about to happen” i looked at him and told him ive had the worst week of my life and he looked me dead in the eyes and said “IKnow”

Now iKnow we serve a mighty God thats capable of pulling any one out of anything

    Hes gonna bring me out!

  32. 28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
A landmark is a reminder of where you gave hern. It is s familiar sigjt.
An ancient landmark us one that had been though the rain the storms and is still stsndibg. Recently someone said I was from the old school well if old school is staying in the Word then I am old school. There r some things we need to hold onto whether they r not sin they r good tesching. Don’t move the the land n arks that keep you going back to where God brought u from. They are a reminder of His goodness.

  33. 4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

Here are some advice with key principles to live by and be blessed. Humility and fear of the Lord. Not a complex formula but rather a way to approach God, Humbly, because he resists the proud, and a way to live by, with reverence, respect, honor, awe that you will obey his precepts and commands. This is a true way to be blessed.

  34. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

One of the many great promises of GOD towards our children, but It doesn’t just happen………we are to obey this scripture.

  35. 1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

What good does it do to have all the riches and glorious titles in this world if you do not have a good testimony?

  36. 24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

I have heard so often recently of the importance of who you are friends with. Often it has been said that who you let be close to you is important because it will affect you spiritually. This is so true! Because friends are those who who you share time and experiences and thoughts with; which in turn shapes who you are as a person. As this proverb says it is important you not be friends with an angry person, lest you also become like them. So I need to be sure that as I continue through life, that I am careful of those in the world that I become friends with. I thank God for the beautiful people at the POFW and the good friends He has brought into my life! Praise the Lord for His mercy endureth forever!

  37. 1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

2 The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.

3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

  38. “Pay attention and listen to the sayings of those who are wise. Apply your heart to the sayings I teach. It is pleasing when you keep them in your heart. Have all of them ready on your lips.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22:17-18‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Application is a very important step in living for God. As we study the word we must apply it to our hearts and put it into action.

  39. 6. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. 15. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. We must obey !!!!

  40. 3 Prudent people see trouble coming and hide, but the naive walk right into it and take a beating.

5 Thorny branches and traps lie ahead for those who follow perverse paths; those who want to preserve themselves will steer clear of them. Voice

    Watch where you walk!

    Psalm 119:105 KJV
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

  41. 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

  42. Proverbs 22:2 (English Amp) The rich and poor meet together ; The Lord is the Maker of them all. Proverbs 14 :31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches, mocks, and insults his Maker, but he who is kind and merciful to the needy honors Him. The Lord is the Maker of all .

  43. In Solomon’s day, a good reputation, like wisdom, is considered more valuable than any material thing. Modern society puts less value on a good name; but for Christians, who are to be salt and light (Matt 5:13-16), it remains crucial. Proverbs as a whole could be considered a primer for those who want to live in a way that inspires the respect and trust of those who want to live in a way that inspires the respect and trust of those around them. While no imperfect human being can live out every piece of advice that the wise writers have to offer, the instructions for good living are nevertheless priceless.

  44. “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This applies to Christians too. Foolishness is in the hearts of those who are new in the Lord. They may talk to Jesus as if he were a genie. But when the rod of correction is used, a rebuke from a friend or elder in the Word, the rebuke drives the foolishness far from the “child”

  45. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

This scripture is both a comfort and discomfort. For it is a comfort the kids raised right will stay following the Lord. But a discomfort, because of all those who where raised not to care or in evil, what will divert them from their path. In this I can only remember that with man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
