Proverbs 25

These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

  1. Verses 11-13 CEV “The right word at the right time is like precious gold set in silver. Listening to good advice is worth much more than jewelry made of gold. A messenger you can trust is just as refreshing as cool water in summer.” Same verses MSG “The right word at the right time is like a custom-made piece of jewelry, And a wise friend’s timely reprimand is like a gold ring slipped on your finger. Reliable friends who do what they say are like cool drinks in sweltering heat—refreshing!”

Colossians 4:6 MSG says “Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.” Psalm 19:14 CEV says “Let my words and my thoughts be pleasing to you, Lord, because you are my mighty rock[a] and my protector.”

  2. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee

  3. “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We can’t allow ourselves to be easily convinced. We have to fight off evil spirits that try to come against us. That doubt lust, hate, fear, greed , depression. To be filled with the Holy Ghost to better to be filled with your own glory and thoughts. It’s insurance and protection.

  4. I Love To Worship The Lord
    vs-6
Dont demand an audience with the king as though as though you were some powerful prince
The King in this vs is pastor Watts After reading this what comes to mind is being respectful of pastors time or going in with little pittledy promblems that you can solve through prayer

  5. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

    Killing “him/her” with kindness =D

  6. iLove to Go Blog
Proverbs 25:9-10 NLT When arguing with your neighbor, don’t betray another person’s secret. (10) Others may accuse you of gossip, and you will never regain your good reputation.

To read this verse should be an eye opener to those who gossip. If you know some secrets from one of your friends…why are you going to spill those secrets out into the streets? What is the point? Some folks go through other folks facebook just to gather “evidence” against them and present the information to their “click”. This kind of activity will most definitely ruin a good reputation.

I personally want to have a good reputation. I choose not to gossip. The choice is ours.

  7. 16 Do you like honey? Don’t eat too much, or it will make you sick! (NLT)

This reminds me of a message I’ll probably never forget: “The divine balance between the fork and the field.” Yesterday’s proverb told us His word is like honey, yet today we’re told not to eat too much. You may not physically become sick but think about it, once you become so accustomed to something it becomes boring and you grow “sick of it.” That message of divine balance was by Bro. Cortt Chavis and he explained the importance of going to work after eating at the Fathers table. Don’t become spiritually selfish and fat, go share the gospel you eat with everyone around you!

  8. 9 If you argue your case was a neighbor, do not betray another man’s confidence,
10 or he who hears it will shame you and you will never lose your bad reputation .

21 if your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.

27 It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to seek one’s own honor.

  9. INTEGRITY MATTERS

19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

We witness it often, the most gifted, best talented, efficiently skilled individuals are looked over and passed by on promotion, selection and opportunity. They have obvious ability, but lack necessary character. They may sing better, play better, preach better, organize better and stratagize better; but they are always late, frequently missing, openly disinterested and freely criticizing.

Then you have an individual that is always there, not the best at anything, but available for everything, positive, encouraging, willing, punctual and dependable.

Which one would you choose in a life and or death situation.

As Church Leaders we must a close look at ourselves. Do we have more reasons to miss than to engage? More opportunities to be absent than commitment to be present? Are we so involved in our own life challenges and problems that we cannot offer assistance to those that have no direction? Are tardy more often than we are punctual? Do we find more wrong with the Mission than we find right with the Mission? Do we approach ministry half hearted or whole hearted? How easily are we removed from our ministry post and opportunity?

We may be good actors and deceive many people, but no one can deceive the LORD and he chooses faithful people throughout the WORD of GOD to fulfill HIS will.

With a broken tooth appetite is lost; therefore strength and nourishment are diminished.
With a foot out of joint mobility is limited; every move is painful and progress is slow and limited.

JESUS gives a clear answer to PROMOTION whether in the natural or Spiritual:

Matthew 25:19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

    GO be Faithful!

  10. 17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

For those who get to deliver cookies or revisit our first time guests we need to be aware that we are invading peoples personal space. Some people open their home and invite us in while others only talk to us through a small crack in the door. We need to be aware of how we are received and greeted. Even the most gracious of hosts may run short of patience with guests who do not know when to leave.

  11. “When arguing with your neighbor, don’t betray another person’s secret. Others may accuse you of gossip, and you will never regain your good reputation.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:9-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Gossip is so hurtful. Some feel that if it’s the truth it isn’t gossip. Unfortunately gossip is truth or false reports. If our words are not building others up it shouldn’t come out of our mouths. Especially when someone confides in you. Don’t expose their secrets to others. If they are in trouble or need then ONLY those in authority need to know. Im thankful for this chapter. There’s so much I need to apply to my life. Lord, search me!

“Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].”
    ‭‭EPHESIANS‬ ‭4:29‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  12. 13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

He refreshes our soul in the midst of a battle. He strengthens in times of weaknesses. He is faithful in the times of questions. In His presence there is peace.

The Joy of the Lord is my Strength

  13. 4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

No one enjoys going through the “fires” of life, but life is a process just like the refiners fire in making a vessel, the hotter the fire, the more impurities are burned out and the more beautiful the vessel becomes. We must recognize we are in the process of becoming more Christ-like. That’s not always easy because it goes against this earthly nature.

We can help the process by not despising it and getting through it quicker, or we can hinder the process by “trying to help God out.” God doesn’t need our help He just needs us to be obedient and follow.

  14. 4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

  15. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

It is important the we the people of God and especially those who serve as ministers know how to rule their spirits and attitudes. Pastor taught on this Sunday and used the word temperance to describe the spirit and attitude that we as ministers should possess. If we cant rule our own spirits and houses how can we lead the people of God?

  16. 7 Truly, it is far sweeter to have someone of influence say to you, “Come up here and join us,” than to be ordered to some lower rank in front of a noble… Voice

Self-promotion can lead to some embarrassing situations. With patience, your abilities will be appreciated. If you have to tell people that you are a good “X”, you’re probably not.

  17. Josiah: 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.
Sometimes when people are wronged they just want to slap the person or, yell at them. However the Bible tells and shows us how to be Christian to them. It says that “If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat;” It goes on to say “and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:” When we choose to be Christian back to someone who is acting like an enemy the Bible says “and the Lord shall reward thee.” Furthermore the payback or remark back that you will hold in God says if you do “thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head,” So, let us GO BE A CHRISTIAN EXAMPLE regardless of how others may act around or, to us! Who knows? Someone might get won over to God!

  18. God created women to help and please the man. The calamity occurs when the woman who was created to comfort and encourage him becomes his worst enemy and nightmare and he cannot escape for it’s too late. Back then the houses had flat roofs which would be useful for solitude, but you would be exposed to all of the elements. But huddled in a corner of the roof is better than living with an arguing woman no matter how nice the living conditions are. What is a brawling wife? It’s a woman who brings strife, discord, contention. It’s a wife who cannot allow a matter to rest, cannot submit to her husbands decisions, argues and contest anything her husband says or does, remembers past offences, and seldom apologizes.

  19. 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Many times words of encouragement and words that speak positively give others hope and the strength to push through the circumstances of life, especially when you are speaking God’s word. Encourage someone to turn their life to Jesus because he is the problem solver and way maker.

  20. It’s better to wait for an invitation to the head table than to be sent away in public disgrace. Just because you’ve seen something, don’t be in a hurry to go to court. For what will you do in the end if your neighbor deals you a shameful defeat? When arguing with your neighbor, don’t betray another person’s secret. Others may accuse you of gossip, and you will never regain your good reputation.
    Proverbs 25:7‭-‬10 NLT

In my life time I learned to let a lot of things go we all have enemies the Bible say nothing to betray your enemies just because the did something doesn’t mean you can run off and tell everyone one what they did but instead feed them with love if the are struggling give them a helping hand if they are Hungry Feed them with food love thy neighbor that doesn’t mean just your friends but that means your enemies

  21. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls

What do you allow to control your spirit? Are you allowing the nature of this world or the Spirit of God to have reign over you? Whichever one it is, it will show through your attitude and in the way you walk and talk. We must remember that the first person we must lead is ourselves!

  22. 15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

Being gentle at spirit and watching what we say will keep us out of trouble. God prefers us to eat and fill up with purpose in our lives instead of filling up with worthless speech insufficient for our souls. Focus on Having control of your life, God despises temporary desires.

  23. Proverbs 25:6-7
    6) Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
    7) For better is it that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

St. Matt. 23:13 & St. Luke 14:11 says, “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

  24. Are you faithful?

19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

My parents told me time and time again,” If you are found faithful in small things, God will allow you to be over many things.” As a child I didn’t know how much that would mean to me now. I have tried to stay faithful in anything that I do, to being on time for things. This principle in life, has allowed me to be apart of many great things, and to see and help in events that I would not have had the opportunity to do other wise.
As we begin another school year, I challenge the young people not just in school but in every aspect of life to be faithful. Be faithful in reading God’s Word, be Faithful in giving of your time , talent , and treasure, Be faithful in just being the best that you can be.
    So #GODOSOMETHING by being Faithful

  25. 19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

Amen!!! This has happened many times to me but I have learned in who and not to trust. We are all humans and have faults but this should not give us a reason to be loyal. Overall Jesus is the one that will never lie!!! We can’t be in trouble if we trust in Him more than others or other things. Jesus is the one that will always be there and will never lie!!!

  26. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Discipline doesn’t come no where it’s something you must practice daily, weekly, monthly. You must have control what you allow to enter your MIND. You must control what you allow your FLESH (Body) to do. You must control and strengthen your SPIRIT daily. These 3 things are not easy to Discipline at all, in fact it’s kinda difficult. If you practice strengthening these 3 though your path of righteousness will be even greater.
iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus

  27. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

Overcome evil with good. Yes perhaps that is one of the hardest things to d. If some one harms you that you do good to that person shows the true love of God. Let the Lord be the judge and handle things. He can do a better job at it than we can.

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
    Romans 12:19‭-‬21 NKJV

  28. 13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

This verse reminds me of how, That apostles are messengers that are sent. Even though I am not a minster or great. My I be faithful, so that I may refresh the soul of God, even in the little I have to do. That I live up to my name. Providing a relief and comfort that should not be had at that time and season, but welcome unto the Lord.

I bless you in the name of the Lord Jesus!

  29. 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures

We never know what people may be going through or what problems they might have. We must always be ready to bless some one with kind words or just a God Bless you. You might be surprised with there reaction.

  30. Proverbs 25:13 (English Amp) Like the cold of snow [brought from the mountains in time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him; for he refreshes the life of His masters. God refreshes your soul through your battles , He gives you peace in the mist of storms or trials. Give your enemy a cool drink of water and feed them bread of life. Be a good servant.

  31. 17 Don’t visit your neighbors too often, or you will wear out your welcome

Yes, its always nice to see friends, family and church members while out shopping, restaurants or fellowshipping at home. Even with family members, we can wear out our welcome while visiting for too long. Try having a family member move with you for awhile, it will test your patience. Wait to be invited, and the experience will be that much more fulfulling.

  32. 19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

The church body requires faithfulness just like the physical body. The heart, brain and lungs cannot take a vacation because they are vital organs. When a system of the body like the respiratory or circulatory system goes down then the whole body suffers. One who is unfaithful causes the rest of the church body to carry more weight. It causes disunity and impacts ones integrity. Trying to rely on an unfaithful or uncommitted person is like trying to drink from a cup with holes. Painful like a broken tooth or a foot out of joint. It’s better to sacrifice in obedience with a servants heart.

  33. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

A city that doesn’t have any walls or guidance of how to effectively contain itself tends to haphazardly spread. Typically this spreading occurs without a care to what occurs to other portions of the city becasue of it; whether good or bad. How much more is our spirit like this? without any guidance. Truly, we cannot expect to have an orderly and fruitful life if we do not take care of it, if we do not have guidance and self discipline. That is what the Word of God is for, that is what our Pastor and Church is for, to help us be able to guide our actions and lives so that way we may one day be with Him. I need to be sure that in all I do, that I am keeping rule over my spirit. I do not want to risk not making to heaven because of an unruly spirit or life! I need to be sure in all things that I love the Lord my God with all my heart soul mind and strength! Praise the Lord! For His mercy endureth forever!

  34. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

We become very vulnerable when we let our emotions or spirit control us. We can easily fall pray to attacks simply because we cannot gain rule over ourselves. This is true for our flesh as well. We are so easily tempted when we do not have our flesh in check.

  35. Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow.(Proverbs 25:18 NLT)

When a person breathes false witness against their neighbors they should know better. That’s why the book of Proverbs shows us that the wickedness of slander, and that a false witness is in some respect as bad as a murderer. Life and death lie in the lounge. This is why we should speak life and build people up not tear them down.

  36. 4 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
Learn how to pick your battles that will help solve alot of problems!

  37. 21. If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: 22. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee. 23.The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue. You will be rewarded if you feed and give your enemy a drink. HALLELUJAH !!!!

  38. 17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

Distance make the heart grown fonder. What my aunt was trying to tell me was, it’s nice to see you but you can’t stay long.

It being said for our convenience. So one over staying there visit can bring and end to friendships, break up families no matter how close. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you have that as an option, always chose the latter.

  39. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

Having a hard time dealing with some unwanted enemies? Here’s your answer! Kill me with the love of Jesus!

  40. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Strongholds are wanting to be built in your life and they are going to want to prosper (these are the enemies strongholds) If you have no control over yourself your fruit you bear is going to be infested with species. We need to reign over our spirits to have the fruit of the spirit, thank you Jesus!

  41. An interesting observation in this proverb: ‘Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.’ It is easy to relate to the physical; who wants to have a silver vessel full of imperfections? Why would it be set in on the mantle? It wouldn’t be a show piece, but a shame to the workmanship of the person who made it.

So why do we expect our imperfections to be acceptable to God? We are the vessels he wants to display before the world. We are the ones he wants to point out to Satan when he comes by to accuse the brethren. It may require some purging, but let me be refined! Let my soul be pure! Let the righteousness of God accomplish it’s work in my life! Let me recognized that ‘He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls’ and let me instill the discipline I need in my walk with God!
