Isaiah 36

Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.

And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field.

Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah’s son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph’s son, the recorder.

And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.

But if thou say to me, We trust in the Lord our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?

Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

10 And am I now come up without the Lord against this land to destroy it? the Lord said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

11 Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

12 But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

13 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

14 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.

15 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lordwill surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

16 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;

17 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, the Lord will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

20 Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

22 Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

  1. In reading this chapter, two thoughts came to my mind….”Who will you depend on?” and “Whose report will you believe?”.

Psalm 62:5-12 CEV “Only God gives inward peace, and I depend on him. God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe, and he is the fortress where I feel secure. God saves me and honors me. He is that mighty rock where I find safety. Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each one of your concerns. God is our place of safety. We humans are only a breath; none of us are truly great. All of us together weigh less than a puff of air. Don’t trust in violence or depend on dishonesty or rely on great wealth. I heard God say two things: “I am powerful, and I am very kind.” The Lord rewards each of us according to what we do.”

1 John 4:6 NLT says “We are a part of God’s family. The person who knows God will listen to us. The person who is not a part of God’s family will not listen to us. In this way, we can tell what is the spirit of truth and what is the spirit of false teaching.”

  2. 21. But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

Can you imagine how difficult it was to stand there and listen to the insults without responding with at least words, if not projectiles?
But patience and obedience allow God to handle things according to His plan, which is always better than our prideful, reflexive responses.

  3. Isaiah Message Version

16-20 “Don’t listen to Hezekiah. Listen to the king of Assyria’s offer: ‘Make peace with me. Come and join me. Everyone will end up with a good life, with plenty of land and water, and eventually something far better. I’ll turn you loose in wide open spaces, with more than enough fertile and productive land for everyone.’ Don’t let Hezekiah mislead you with his lies, ‘God will save us.’ Has that ever happened? Has any god in history ever gotten the best of the king of Assyria? Look around you. Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? The gods of Sepharvaim? Did the gods do anything for Samaria? Name one god that has ever saved its countries from me. So what makes you think that God could save Jerusalem from me?’”

    The Voice of the Deceiver
These verses remind me of when Satan spoke to Eve in the garden. It was with a cunning voice and promises of being as God himself. The deceiver will come with enticing words with promises of prosperity. Just because it looks good ,sounds good and feels right does not mean it is. We must continually recognize the true voice of God. So the question was What makes you think that God could save Jerusalem from me?’” The answer is I have heard the voice of God, He has already defeated the enemy . He is the God who does answer and deliver. Our God will return He will destroy the deceiver He will take back what belongs to Him. He will deliver Jerusalem. He is God with a Capital letter!

21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

Great submission in the middle of a great trial. The righteous King Hezekiah gave the instruction and now this arrogant king is attempting to instill fear. The obedience of King Hezekiah’s men kept the men safe from the spirit of fear that would have no doubt attacked had they argued.

Hezekiah trusted in God! Hold your peace and watch God bring great deliverance.

  5. THE DECEITFUL VOICE OF REASON

18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, the Lord will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

Our adversary satan likes to make a splash and twist the truth. The deceitful devil is a master with words because he is a cheap imitator. He witnessed the power of GOD when HE spoke at creation and desires the same power.

Notice what Rabshakeh spoke to the messengers of Hezekiah. I will share it in 21stCenturyVersion.

“Dont listen to what Pastor Watts has to say, he will preach to you that if you will be Apostolic and in lifestyle that you will win. Just look around you at all the lost people, look at all the people that have walked away from this Apostolic Church.”

We must be protective of our ears, minds and heart to not listen to the voices of those that oppose our FAITH and the prophetic words of our Pastors.

The deceiver utilized the fact that other gods had fallen to this army, however, we must realize that our GOD is not like any other GOD. He IS the KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. Don’t be fooled by someones negative overtones about the FAITH preaching.

  6. 21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

Hezekiah warned them and told them them not to answer the words of the King of Assyria. It would be a distraction to them, it would lead them away from their purpose and what the King had instructed them to do. We must be aware of those that are distractions to us, and those who make it their mission to bring confusion to our lives. Just like the serpent who told partial truth to Eve, it was enough truth to bring confusion to her life and cause her to sin. The enemy does the same with us. He speaks just enough to truth to cover up the deception so that we think we are doing right. Be aware, be sensitive to God and when God speaks to do something or not do something, follow what God, and the man of God in your life says, and not what other’s tell you to do. They won’t be standing in judgement with us, we will have to give an account for ourselves.

  7. 21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

“A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered. Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:27-28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It is better to not say anything at all, then to open your mouth and say the wrong thing! To know when the right time is to just be quiet in a situation, we must listen to the voice of God. It is not always easy to for us to hold our peace when being attacked, but if you’re not sure if you need to say what’s going on in your mind, pray about it first! Lord I pray that you would put a guard over my mouth!

  8. Isaiah 36
vs. 14, “Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you:…”
vs. 15, “Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us…”
vs. 16, “Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me:…”
vs. 18, “Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us…”

    “Don’t listen to Pastor”
This sounds like something the devil or other people will say to you. “You don’t have to listen to and do everything Pastor tells you to do.” The sad thing is many have listened to these voices and gotten themselves into trouble or have turned away from Apostolic Truth.

BE Obedient and Submissive to Pastor and “follow his faith.”
“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.” (Heb. 13:17)
“Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God, whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.” (Heb. 12f:7)

  9. KNOW YOUR DELIVERER

“Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭36:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When praying with someone for deliverance we must assure them that it’s not “YOU” that is going to deliver them but the Sprit of God!
So if the Holy Ghost is already flowing freely in the house and someone says they need prayer. You say “what for” and they reply “deliverance” I’m thinking well MY GOD SON we are delivered, set free, sanctified by the blood of the lamb.
At that point just let God begin to work start speaking the word because for one the Word is God! For two were getting their faith higher by speaking the Word of God unto their thought process because not only is the Word God but it is the double edged Sword that is gonna pierce any stronghold and cut any chains that are keeping them bonded.
Last but not least we’re gonna seal by praying in the spirit letting Jesus take FULL and COMPLETE control!
In Jesus name GO tell someone who is the DELIVERER!

iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

  10. 21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

proverbs 29:11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.”

there is a place for every thing you do , an say don’t use your words that have no meaning but use the words that have value. So to cut it short just shut up, an remember God is the right answer and pray that his will is your will and keep yuh lip shut .

  11. “Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭36:14‬ ‭KJV

We must never forget who our deliverer is or who our helper is. The bible says “My help cometh from the Lord” We must lift up our eyes to the hills from were our help comes from and not depend or rely on the help of this world.

  12. Sometimes there are just some big bullies out there wanting to take you out, wanting to take out your praise. Remember though that we serve a mighty God – He is Jehovah and He is our strength! Here the people were faced with the facts. When we are given the facts, sometimes it seems the odds are against us, but remember we serve a God who is able to do the impossible! So who’s report will you believe? The people kept their silence as their man of God, Hezekiah had instructed. We don’t have to answer to the people who want to take us out. All we have to do, is first and foremost, be submitted and obedient, and then whip out the power God has given us and know He’ll see us through!

  13. Then the Assyrian king’s chief of staff told them to give this message to Hezekiah: “This is what the great king of Assyria says: What are you trusting in that makes you so confident? Do you think that mere words can substitute for military skill and strength? Who are you counting on, that you have rebelled against me?
    Isaiah 36:4‭-‬5 NLT

Who are trusting in the world or GOD are we listening to the world or are we listening to it GOD has for us

  14. 18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you…

It is not an accident that the wisest man in the world, King Solomon, gave priority to seduction and those who persuade in the first chapters of Proverbs. The first four chapters of Proverbs exalt wisdom and encourage everyone to seek wisdom. Then in chapter five, the adultery is addressed. We need to love God, love His Word and base our lives on His principles instead of following a demonic culture that says, “If it feels good, do it” or “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.

In a world that is consumed with self-gratification and instant solutions – persuasive people have an advantage. We can hardly drive down the road without some billboard drawing our attention to claim how good beer tastes and how much fun it is to drink. It seems the enemy is everywhere – well, so if God. He is Omnipresent and Omnipotent.

  15. Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

20 Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

22 Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

    🌝 PRAISE GOD

  16. 5Do you think that mere words can substitute for military skill and strength? Who are you counting on, that you have rebelled against me?

Yes, words are very powerful. Words can discourage people mentally, and cause them to continually stay in the run. But words also gives a peace of mind. Knowing God is on your side fighting for you, will give you peace. War is not only about physical fighting but it’s also knowing how to deceive your enemy.

  17. 13 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

14 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.

15 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lordwill surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

Whose report will you believe..? This is why it is good to be in the word that when an enemy comes trying to instill fear and make you question the report you’ve been given you can notice the attack. There is no way we can loose with God on our side.

  18. 8 Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

I pledge Allegiance to God and his kingdom. I am a blood bought sinner, saved by God’s great grace. I have not deserved anything, yet am a child of God. I have be born into sin, yet he loved me so much that he died for me. What other king has done this for their nation like God has? Answer, NONE. We own it to God to serve him the rest of our lives. And that’s the least we could do. Who have you pledged your allegiance too?

  19. “Don’t let Hezekiah mislead you by saying, ‘The Lord will rescue us!’ Have the gods of any other nations ever saved their people from the king of Assyria? What happened to the gods of Hamath and Arpad? And what about the gods of Sepharvaim? Did any god rescue Samaria from my power? What god of any nation has ever been able to save its people from my power? So what makes you think that the Lord can rescue Jerusalem from me?” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭36‬:‭18-20‬ NLT)

People are so easy to say things like this! Only if they knew, only if they knew.. there is no one like Jehovah! None can compare, He alone sits upon the throne, the creator of all.

  20. The God that we serve will not be mocked even by those he allows to provide the correction required of his people. The people of Jerusalem had been warned time and again that judgment was coming to the point that even the nations around then knew of their transgressions against the Lord. A good point for our walk today as well… don’t make the mistake of thinking those not in the church will not recognize your sin for what it is. The error of the Assyria was their pride in despising the God and the king of the people they came to chastise.

‘Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, the Lord will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’

God would not allow such a statement to stand before his people! Note that they spoke both against the physical and the spiritual authority of Israel and likened it to the false gods of the land. They do so with the very mindset that we hear so often today: what is the difference? How is your God any different? How are your beliefs any greater? How can you know? But they did know and so do we! We don’t want to reach the point that it takes destruction at the gate before we acknowledge and are willing to take a stand for God! Let the whole world know who Jesus is and what Jesus does and how great is his love!

  21. Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on the part to set riders upon them. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

  22. 16 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;

21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

  23. 21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

It’s always best to think before you speak, especially when the enemy is trying to corner you. We must let God give us the words to counter the enemy because this is the Lord’s battle, not ours. Let Him fight for us.

  24. 21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not. Sometimes we must hold our peace in battle, knowing that God will fight the battle for us behind the scenes. J. Soliz

  25. Isaiah 36:21 (English Amp) But they kept still and answered him not a word, for the king’s [Hezekekiah’s] command was, Do not answer him, We should pray before we speak . Ask God for guildness.

  26. 14 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.
15 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lordwill surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

The enemy of the God can always lie and stretch the truth to make you believe them and turn to wickedness. In this case they were promised goods (2000 horses) and land filled with food. The enemy tried to atrack their faith by making it seem as if God would not come through because none of the false gods had answered prayers. Which is funny because the false gods are of the enemy. Literally the enemy can promise anything, say anything, and will try to offer anything they can to make you give up what you are holding to, what you are standing for. It may seem good at the time and may seem like the best offer that there is on the table to try and make your trial go away. But as pastor said last night, be careful lest you are making a deal with the devil. Literally, what you could do instead  is rebuke the enemy, and not even bother to respond to the enemy’s taunts; and have faith in God that He will give you the strength to carry on, and the wisdom to know what to do. It’s awesome! God makes it so easy to live a life for Him! Truly God is a faithful God who loves us enough to allow us to learn and grow as we serve Him. Praise the Lord! For His ways are higher then ours!

  27. 4 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you

Sometime we put our faith in man before we put our faith in God. We must always remember that it is the lord that deliver us out of our troubles. If it had not ben for the lord on my side tell me where would I be…where would I be??

  28. 7 But if thou say to me, We trust in the Lord our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
8 Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

Where are our alter? If we say the Lord is our God then have taken down every thing in our life if it comes close to taking a place anywhere near him.

  29. 15 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lordwill surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

No one but Jesus can take us out of trail and trouble there is one God who is above all and through you all and his name is Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Shot name, but is the highest authority and power!

  30. 3 Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah’s son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph’s son, the recorder.

    The power of intimidation

Crazy how easy it is to defeat someone stronger more prepared and more powerful with the simple act of intimidation. Somehow to help the spirit of fear enter into someone else’s heart will allow the swift victory.

It was the power of intimidation that God used to scare away the Syrian army with the noise that for lepers made by simply walking. The noise was Amplified in the way that the enemy thought great armies were coming against them.

It’s like in the game of poker, where you of the stakes, making your opponent think that you got a good hand. When you seem secure enough, they all them up themselves for fear to take over and give you the upper hand.

  31. 1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.

No matter how long we been in the walk with God we can’t let anything steal our Judah. If someone or something has stolen your Judah we have to take it back. We can’t stand here and watch the devil take our blessings, talents, praise, worship, etc. Lord in time of need or joy I always want to give you my Judah Lord!!!

  32. 6 Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.

7 But if thou say to me, We trust in the Lord our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?

We have to know where we put our trust. We don’t want to put it in man, or anything of this world, but in the Creator of this world.

  33. Does he think he can plan and win a war with nothing but words? Who is going to help him, now that he has turned against the king of Assyria?(Isaiah 36:5 CEV)

The Lord our God Jesus Christ he created us humans in his own image for he gave us a

    • … freedom of free will. We choose to follow God and His Commandments. When we put our trust in him he will use us for his will. King Hezekiah had enough faith in God and his walk with God that he would protect him from any enemy. When we trust God he will do the same for us.

  34. The king of Assyria cannot understand who we put our trust in and how we believe in faith. We can stand firm in Christ Jesus. In 1 John 5:14 says “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” The king of Assyria is committed to the world and it’s strategies and military strength. The power or God is stronger than any army, mightier than any weapon of mass destruction. We don’t make bargains to be at peace with the world as the king of Assyria offers in vs 8, we stay separated and depend on God for our deliverance out of the hands of our enemy.

  35. 20. Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Je- ru’-sa-lem out of my hand? 21. But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not. YOU ARE A GREAT GOD JESUS !!!!

  36. 6 Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.

Jesus is the only trustworthy and loving father. He will never betray us, and he will never stab us in the back. He paid an ultime price to save us because he wants us to have a permanent spiritual life.

  37. 21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

This people showed good obedience. For the man over them told them not to answer him a word. He who was blaspheming God and his power. But still they held their peace. Showing the value of listening to authority.
