Isaiah 40

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord‘s hand double for all her sins.

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:

And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

10 Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counsellor hath taught him?

14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?

15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.

17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.

18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.

20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.

21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

  1. 12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity

All created beings shrink to nothing in comparison with the Creator. When the Lord, by his Spirit, made the world, none directed his Spirit, or gave advice what to do, or how to do it. The nations, in comparison of him, are as a drop which remains in the bucket, compared with the vast ocean; or as the small dust in the balance, which does not turn it, compared with all the earth. This magnifies God’s love to the world, that, though it is of such small account and value with him, yet, for the redemption of it, he gave his only-begotten Son, John 3:16. The services of the church can make no addition to him. Our souls must have perished for ever, if the only Son of the Father had not given himself for us.

  2. 10 Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

What a mighty God we serve! He’s balanced in all things knowing when to bare His mighty arm and when to gentally carry his sheep. I can go on for years about how awesome God is. I have found that He is always strong, even in the most fragile moments when he is gentle.

28Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

  3. Verses 28-31 AMP “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become tired or grow weary; There is no searching of His understanding. He gives strength to the weary, And to him who has no might He increases power. Even youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.” As the song says “Our God is an awesome God”. Another song says:

Who is like You, Lord in all the earth
Who can compare to Your great worth
Worthy of all praise, matchless is Your Name
I’ll sing a song of Your great Name

    Forever I will praise You
I will lift my hands and praise You
For there is nobody like You
No one else deserves the praise like You do

  4. 21. Don’t you know, haven’t you heard or even been told from your earliest memories how the earth came to be?

    22. Who else could have done it except God, enthroned high above the earth? From such a vantage people seem like grasshoppers to Him. Who else but God could stretch out the skies as if they were a curtain, draw them tight, suspend them over our heads like the roof of a tent?

    25. The Holy One asks, “Do you really think you can find someone or something to compare to Me? My equal?”

    26. Look at the myriad of stars and constellations above you. Who set them to burning, each in its place? Who knows those countless lights each by name? They obediently shine, each in its place, because God has the great strength and strong power to make it so. Voice

There’s no god like our God
There’s no god like our God
    Creator and King
    He rules everything
There’s no god like our God

  5. GO WAIT ON THE LORD

31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

The word wait seems to indicate the willingness to tarry or patiently endure. We live in a microwave society, a right now society. Patience and waiting, are now common traits of life as they were in generations past. When we think about the word wait, most of us are frustrated in advance. We don’t like to wait from the Dr. office to the restaurant, we have options. But notice the deeper definition of what it means to “WAIT” upon the LORD.

Wait – 6960. qavah, kaw-vaw´; a primitive root; to bind together (perhaps by twisting), i.e. collect; (figuratively) to expect:—gather (together), look, patiently, tarry, wait (for, on, upon).

The word wait also means to serve.

wait upon -— wait on or less commonly wait upon
    1 a :to attend as a servant
b :to supply the wants of :serve
2 :to make a formal call on
    3 :to wait for

When we SERVE the LORD our STRENGTH is renewed. GO WAIT ON THE LORD = GO SERVE THE LORD.

Lets WAIT on the LORD these next 2 weeks.

  7. “Zion, you are bringing good news to your people. Go up on a high mountain and announce it. Jerusalem, you are bringing good news to them. Shout the message loudly. Shout it out loud. Don’t be afraid. Say to the towns of Judah, “Your God is coming!” The Lord and King is coming with power. His powerful arm will rule for him. He has set his people free. He is bringing them back as his reward. He has won the battle over their enemies.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:9-10‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

In this passage of scripture we see the Good Shepherd. I’m very thankful for the Shepherd in my life. He’s always looking out for my good and doesn’t lead me astray. And when tough time comes He doesn’t back away. He comes with power and authority. He knows me and has compassion for His flock.

“”I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. The hired man is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when the hired man sees the wolf coming, he leaves the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired man. He does not care about the sheep. “I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and my sheep know me.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭10:11-14‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  8. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings
like eagles. They will run and not grow weary they will walk and no fant.
    Isaiah 40:31 NLT

  9. 18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

How can we compare something we cannot perceive the entirety of? God is unique. There is no other. Because of this, there is nothing or no one God can be compared with. Our human minds can only know by comparison to things we know and understand. We know God through the comparisons reveled to us in his Word and in this world. However, the Bible is not a complete manuscript of who God is. It is only a glimpse of His power and testimonies of how others perceive who God is.

  10. 18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

When we begin to question God in our lives, we need to go back to His word. Who crated us to begin him? God did! Who created the earth and all that is in it? God did. Why would we feel/think that He is still not able to take care of us?. He can and He will.

  11. You thing you’re problems are to big for God? They are not. You think you can compare God? He has no equal . all of us are like grasshoppers . and he holds the earth like a grand of sand. The human mind will ever truly understand how big and powerful God is. Because we have no true idea. We can’t see him but he can see us . we don’t know what he’s doing but he knows what we are doing. We don’t know when he is coming back. But he knows the date, year, time he wil return.

  12. You thing you’re problems are to big for God? They are not. You think you can compare God? He has no equal . all of us are like grasshoppers . and he holds the earth like a grand of sand. 13. 8 The grass weathers and the flowers for, but the word of God stands forever

18 To whom, then, will you compare God? Would image would you compare him to.

  14. One of my favorite scripture

Isaiah 40:31 z But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.

Those that wait on the Lord, who make conscience of their duty to him, and by faith rely upon him and commit themselves to his guidance, shall find that God will not fail them.
They shall have Grace sufficient for them: they shall renew their strength as their work is renewed, as there is a new occasion; they shall be anointed, and their lamps supplied, with fresh oil. God will be their arm every morning.

  15. 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Stay Strong, In the end we win. Our focus needs to be on God. He is the way maker and the provider. He is all that we will ever need.

  16. 25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

There’s no one like You God, none can even compare to You – You are the sovereign God!! To consider how magnificent our God is, I often ask myself the questions of verse 27. How could I not, how could anyone question God when He’s able to do the impossible; yet we wonder if He even knows us…He made us!! So yes, just like the universe and the stars, He knows us all!

  17. iLove to Go Blog
29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint

Wahhooo! God is Great. For those who are weak and those who are weary God promises strength and peace. God is able to help each of us overcome the world and get us going in the right direction. Lord, I pray you would renew my strength today in Jesus Name!

  18. 3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

This whole chapter is beautiful. So many great scriptures in the whole chapter but this one stands out to me…
This verse reminds me of the declaration of John the Baptist! “Prepare ye the way of the Lord! Make His paths straight! ” “There comes one mightier than I!” Thousands of years before Jesus was born the prophet Isaiah already spoke of the man who would introduce Jesus to the world. This shows the infallibility of the word of God and how it was truly God inspired.

  19. 28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

We have a beautiful promise that when we are at the end of our human strength and ability, that He will see the need and give His strength to keep us. We must wait upon Him and serve Him and this promise is ours.

  20. waiting on the lord is HIGH EXPECTATION an that you have faith in his word and that you believe that it is true , in believing this you will find peace in him for he does not wither or faint . BE PATIENT

  21. One great comfort in reading the Bible is the recognition that for all our technology, man has not changed. We face the same things, the same temptations, the same situations as they. The particulars may be cast in a slightly different fashion, but the underlying conflicts are the same… so God’s response for them still applies to us today. The idols the world places above God may be called by different names, but this response is still so applicable today: ‘Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?’ They look at us incredulous that we believe in God and so many shy away, but really it ought to be us looking at them with that same feeling and challenging their beliefs as the position that is truly outlandish.

If that seems a bit too bold in today’s world, just look at God’s response: ‘To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.’ We don’t need to apologise for our faith! A holy lifestyle is still not only acceptable, it is a requirement of the kingdom. We don’t apologise for our walk any more than we apologise for our God. We serve a mighty God! He’s given us a precious promise! It doesn’t matter what anyone in this world thinks it says… our God is still able! Let God be true and every man a liar. Let us live to please him!

  22. Isaiah 40:31 (English Amp) But those who wait for the lord [ Who expect , look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [ close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun ]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. Be strong, Stay focus on God and his word. Lean on his word and his guildness. Have patience and wait for Jesus.

  23. Isaiah 40:18 & 25
    18) To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
    25) To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

There is no one or anything that can compare to or be equal to God.
He is Omniscient (all-knowing), Omnipotent (all-powerful), and Omnipresent (everywhere).

What a Mighty God we serve! He is Great and Greatly to be Praised!!

  24. 21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

It is He that is the great I am, it is He that reigns over the earth, it is He that is high above all things and so it is He that I will worship!

  25. “But they that WAIT upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, LONGSUFFERING, gentleness, goodness, faith,”
    ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. BLESSED are all they that put their TRUST in him.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭2:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I keep seeing the importance of patience.

iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

  26. “To whom can you compare God? What image can you find to resemble him?”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There’s NO god like our God. There’s no king like our King!
When I truly stand back and think about all that’ God has done for me or the ones in my life, it truly amazes me. How can I not praise Him?!

  27. Our strength cometh from the Lord. The enemy would love for us to think we’re weak, but greater is ge that is within us. We are workers of the most high God. He gives us the strength we need to move forward.

  28. v31 But they wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shallwalk, and not faint.

One of the hardest things to do is wait it’s against our human nature.
LORD teach me to wait upon you and while we wait I’ll will praise ,and worship you.
We always make a mistake when we take matters in our own hands because of our impatience.
    i Pray
    praise
    iWait

  29. 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Teach me Lord Teach me Lord to wait. Each day as we serve Him He brings more and more strength!

  30. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

This is our calling someone up. To prepare the way of the Lord with the same message that John preached from the wilderness that the kingdom of God is at hand and that the word of God will stand forever. Stand on the only thing that will only everything, and that is the word of God and preach to everyone that the Lord is coming.

  31. 6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:

7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.

8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

The only sure foundation for one’s life is the Word of God for it is constant and does not change. All other things in life can change but God’s word will Las forever. Find a promise, a word from God’s word and it will surely come to pass.

  32. 19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.

  33. The good tidings (vs 9) for Jerusalem center on a God who restores and redeems his people. In Matthew 1:21 the angel announces that the good news resides in the birth of Mary’s son, Jesus, who will save people from their sins. God calls beautiful all those who proclaim the good news of salvation to others. In Isaiah 40:9 the bearer of good news is so excited and overwhelmed by it that they shout it from the high mountain. There is no restraint. Such great news cannot be contained. It spills onto our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. Christ’s love and our joy compel us (2Co 5:14) to run to the mountains so others can hear about God’s salvation.

  34. v29 Behold, they are all vanity ; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.

I’m so thankful their is nothing confusing about JESUS and HIS works
HE is the same yesterday, today , and forever!

  35. “The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God is going to go through the wilderness with us and lead us to where he wants us to be. Don’t get upset about the wilderness. Keep going

  36. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.

If you read in Revelations the dimensions of his city it is huge especially when put on a map. Can you imagine the instant terraforming that would take place as all the mountains go flat and his word literally stands? It will be awesome to see and against such it makes sense that all nations are as nothing but vanity. May I put my trust in the kingdom that will stand forever.
