Isaiah 49

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;

And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.

Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.

And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength.

And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

Thus saith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.

10 They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.

12 Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.

13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

14 But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.

15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

17 Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.

18 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth.

19 For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.

20 The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.

21 Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?

22 Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.

23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.

24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

25 But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.

26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

  1. 13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

    17 Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee

    Let there be universal joy, for God will have mercy upon the afflicted, because of his compassion; upon his afflicted, because of his covenant. We have no more reason to question his promise and grace, than we have to question his providence and justice. Be assured that God has a tender affection for his church and people; he would not have them to be discouraged. Some mothers do neglect their children; but God’s compassions to his people, infinitely exceed those of the tenderest parents toward their children. His setting them as a mark on his hand, or a seal upon his arm, denotes his being ever mindful of them. As far as we have scriptural evidence that we belong to his ransomed flock, we may be sure that he will never forsake us. Let us then give diligence to make our calling and election sure, and rejoice in the hope and glory of God.

  2. Isaiah 49:13-26 God promises Israel that His new covenant with the Gentiles does not negate His old covenant with Israel. I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands reveals the eternal security of the salvation of God’s people. They are inseparably united to Him. . Ultimately God will bring both the Gentiles and and His people together into one people of God.

    v.16 Behold, I have graven(inscribed) thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

    Vows of Faithulness
    Song of Solomon 8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

  3. 15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

    16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

    God never forgets us. Even the walls that have been built up in someone’s life that it seems we cannot get through;God can. We must reach with a heart of gentleness, kindness a concern of what people are facing daily. We know how to conquer the enemy. We know the peace of God. We must give them a hope a reason to let their walls down. Jesus said He has us graven in the palm of His hands. I believe the nail prints deep on His hands which are large enough to hold the universe has each and everyone’s name right on those hands. People are fearful people have been wounded …..we must touch with the hands of God sharing that He does know them He does care. Just smile, see with His eyes,and speak with His voice. He will use you to touch a life today to share how wonderful it is to have such a loving God. So make a difference in someone’s life today. Go to someone you don’t know just say hi ask them thete name and share hiw you cane to know God they are just waiting for someone to lead them the way.

  4. 15 Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has born? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
    16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands, your walls are ever before me.

  5. Wow….so much in this chapter to share. A portion of verses 1-3 MSG says “God put me to work from the day I was born. The moment I entered the world he named me. He gave me speech that would cut and penetrate. He kept his hand on me to protect me.” God has a plan and purpose for each and every one of us!

    The beginning of verses 8-12 MSG says “God also says: “When the time’s ripe, I answer you. When victory’s due, I help you. I form you and use you to reconnect the people with me,….”. The time is here, the time is now….let’s not hesitate! The end of these verses says “….For the Compassionate One guides them, takes them to the best springs. I’ll make all my mountains into roads, turn them into a superhighway. Look: These coming from far countries, and those, out of the north, These streaming in from the west, and those from all the way down the Nile!” Here they come POFW….from the North, from the South, from the East and the West! The ones that had forgotten Him (backsliders), the ones that need Him (hurt, hearling), the ones that seek to know Him (curious). The Lord is summoning them ALL! Let’s GO Western Day!

  6. Notice that God’s prophecy included the broader church from the beginning… and it also spoke of the opposition that would arise. ‘It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.’

    His desire was for salvation to spread unto all the earth. He already had a holy people but they turned unto the gods of this world so often that he chose to bring his church out from this world to demonstrate his holiness before those they used to live among and declare the salvation of the Lord! And look at the assurance we receive in return… to be despised and abhored. Jesus did declare that we could not be expected to be treated any better than our master, and that’s how he was received. His chosen people rejected him and when it came time to choose, choose a murderer above him… yet he went willingly to the cross.

    We should always remember to look at what follows persecution. That same passage says kings would arise before him, that princes would worship him… every knee shall bow and every tongue proclaim. The very authority over those who reject and despise those who uphold his light will one day acknowledge him! Will anything that was said or done to us really matter when that day arrives, because that same passage says ‘he shall choose thee’! The God of heaven has chosen us! He chose us above everyone the world would lift up and allow to have dominion over them… and one day they see for themselves.

    We don’t need to be discouraged at how we’re treated, at what they say, at what they think… we need to be on the lookout for those among them with a desire to know God. Among the many that will come today, there are at least a few whom God has chosen to bring to us! Don’t worry about the thoughts of many who will leave satisfied only in their bellies… just make sure we find and connect with every hungry soul amongst them. Let us show them who Jesus truly is!

  7. 9. Through you, My gift to the people, I will declare to the prisoners, “Come out. Now you are free”; To those who are held in darkness, “Come out into the light.” They will find sustenance wherever they are- Along the roads or in the open hills- with peace of mind, in comfort and security. Voice

    God is the one who heals, sets free, and fills with the Holy Ghost, but He does it through those who are willing to be used for His purpose.

  9. I replied, “But my work seems so useless! I have spent my strength for nothing and to no purpose. Yet I leave it all in the Lord ’s hand; I will trust God for my reward.”
    Isaiah 49:4 NLT

  11. And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;
    Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
    Isaiah 49:2‭, ‬15‭-‬16 KJ V

    These are some of my favorite verses. To think that the God of Heaven has my name engraved in the palm of His hand, to know that I am forever His, as close to Him as being held in His hand, this is a great comfort. It does not say that our names are tattooed; that would be too easy, to light a thing. No… our names were hammered into His hands with old rusty nails… never to be forgotten… never to be forsaken. God is great!!

  12. 5 And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength.

    6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

  13. 9I will say to the prisoners, ‘Come out in freedom,’
    and to those in darkness, ‘Come into the light.’
    They will be my sheep, grazing in green pastures
    and on hills that were previously bare.

    Even one may be locked up in prison for life, he can still choose to follow God. Physically he is confined to prison, but spiritually he has freedom to praise and worship God. A prisoner may be a shepherd in prison and lead others to God.

  14. Isaiah 49:13 (English Amp) Sing for joy, I O heavens, and he joyful , O earth, and break forth into singing, O mountains ! For the Lord has comforted His people and will have compassion upon His afflicted . The Lord is going to gather up lost souls for the harvest of the church . We are servers of the Lord. Thank you Lord for of the people that you send to us for Western Day. I so a lot of happy children. Thank you also Lord for letting us serve them a lot love and compassion. This is God promise.

  15. Isaiah 49:6 (NLT)
    “He says, You will do more than restore the people of Israel to me, I will make you a light to the Gentiles, and you will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.”

    I made a comment on Isaiah 45:13 the other day on how God wants to use POFW to Restore and Free Captives of the city of Fort Worth by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
    Now in today’s scripture, HE is telling Us “POFW WILL DO MORE” by being a Light to the Gentiles (Fort Worth) and “POFW Will Bring HIS Salvation” to the ends of the earth (All Around The World). HALLELUJAH!!

    Get Ready POFW – God’s got MORE instore for Us to Do!
    GO GrOW – GO Reach – GO Work!!

  16. 6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

    You never know how God may use you, what lives your testimony may impact well after you have left this world. That is the beautiful thing about Israel, there are many testimonies throughout the Bible that we can look too for guidance and encouragement, even as life lessons to learn the easy way so that we do not have to go through all the same difficult trials those before us have. It is their lives that today, so many years later, have helped so many people in their walk with God! Praise the Lord! For He is good! For His purpose and planning is perfect! Let us GO in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

  17. 6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

    Let your light shine before men. There are people that are watching what you doing. We have to always be a Godly witness, and compel the lost to be save.

  18. “And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭49:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    The word is the sword that cuts through the adversary. When the Spirit of God is in us we have that POWER to cut the enemy to pieces. WE are on the WINNING side!

  19. 5 And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength.

    Wow! We have been formed from the womb to be His servant! As the Bob Dylan song stated, you’re going to have serve somebody, why not the Lord of Glory. I love [Jer 1:5 KJV] 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, [and] I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
    God formed us, ordained us for His service and gifted us to do His work. Bishop Willoughby preached a message entitled, “Saved for Sacrifice.” He shared how the clean animals on the ark survived the flood only to be saacrificed…and that we have been saved to sacrifice ourselves for His work. Rev. Billy Cole preached a message entitled, “The Reward of Sacrifice.” He shared from ISam.6 the cows taken from their young, lowing as they went because they were returning the Ark as proof God had judged the Phillistines and it was not coincidence. The reward for the cattle returning the ark; they were sacrificed. He also shared his testimony how after God used him and his wife to see many people receive the Holy Ghost in Thailand, he had to bring his wife home because she had prayed so hard it almost killed her….When they returned to the US, she questioned him, what do we do now? He replied we get to sacrifice again. The reward of sacrifice is to be used again! What an honor to serve and to sacrifice again for our King along with the POFW family!

  20. 1 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

    2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;

    God had know all of us since before we were born and has a divine purpose for us. God is seeking those who are ready to step up and be what He had ordained them to be. God has given us a word in our mouth and wants us to speak His truth. Who will speak? Who will go? I will! !

  21.  Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

  22. I will say to the prisoners, ‘Come out in freedom,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Come into the light.’ They will be my sheep, grazing in green pastures and on hills that were previously bare.
    Isaiah 49:9 NLT

  23. 13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

    The Lord will not forget his people and will cause them to come to Him. It is even closer to his return and we are being witnesses of the great and mighty things he is doing. The Lord will remember his people and bring them back to him.

  24. 14 But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.

    We are sometimes at a loss to know why trials, heartache and sickness is permitted in interrupt lives. Is our prayer life in order? Are our finances in order? Is our time management in order? Is God first in everything we do?

    God did not promise us a life of lollipops and cotton candy. Sometimes, God allows such things to happen to help us build a deeper relationship with Him. God will reveal His greater purposes in our lives. It can be painful and no fun but we must trust the process of trials to be a means of way of leading us closer to Him. We will then find that His comfort and love will more than meet we need.

  25. 6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

    We need to always be sure we are reflecting His likeness and sharing the good news if we are to be His salvation!

  26. 8 Thus saith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;
    9 That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves.

    (Read yesterday but forgot to blog it) what gets me is this part where it says that we shall not hunger or thirst, that God has every part that we need and is working all things in his favor, and we are apart of that. We walk in that authority everyday and should have that confidence

  27. 13. Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. Make a joyful noise to the LORD !!!!

  28. 1 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

    2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;

    3 And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.

    4 Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.

    5 And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength.

    This verses tell how Isaiah was formed from his mother’s womb to work and do his will, but when he looked at all the work he had done he said he spent his strength in vain, yet God is the judge and he will be glorious in the sight of the Lord. May I not be a reason man of God’s strength is spent in vain and also reach the level of being glorious in the sight of God that Isaiah had.
