Jeremiah 7

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

Stand in the gate of the Lord‘s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the Lord.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, are these.

For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

10 And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

11 Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the Lord.

12 But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

13 And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the Lord, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

14 Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

15 And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

17 Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the Lord: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

20 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

21 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

22 For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

25 Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

26 Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

27 Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

28 But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

29 Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the Lord hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

30 For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the Lord: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

31 And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.

32 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.

33 And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.

34 Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.

  1. Verses 23-24 AMP “But this thing I did command them: ‘Listen to and obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, so that it may be well with you.’ But they did not obey Me or bend their ear [to hear Me], but followed the counsels and the stubbornness of their [own] evil heart (mind), and [they turned and] went backward instead of forward.” This entire chapter sounds like our world today. It is not a time to stop, quit or turn away in the wrong direction. We (POFW) must continue to push forward, listen and obey the voice of the Lord. We cannot afford to move anywhere but forward. Thy kingdom come. JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

  2. Jeremiah 8:13 (English Amp) And now, Because you have done all these things, says the Lord,and because when I spoke to you persistently even rising up early and speaking, you did not listen, and when I called you, you did not answer. You need to put your trust in not in your own understanding. When God tell you to do something you better do it.

  3. 4. Do not rely on the misguided words, ‘The temple of the Eternal, the temple of the Eternal, the temple of the Eternal,’ as if the temple’s presence alone will protect you. Voice

    Simply going to a church doesn’t mean you are a Christian, like going to a garage doesn’t mean you are a car.
    The church (building) is one of the places where the Church (people) allow His Kingdom to come so that lives can be transformed.

  4. This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’
    Jeremiah 7:23 NLT
    “If you love me, obey my commandments.
    John 14:15 NLT

  5. This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will
    be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’
    Jeremiah 7:23 NLT

  6. 24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

    They went backward not forward…. This was a sign of falling or sliding, to have progress it is mostly represented with going forward, and on our walks with God we always need to go forward no matter what!

  7. “Pray no more for these people, Jeremiah. Do not weep or pray for them, and don’t beg me to help them, for I will not listen to you.
    Jeremiah 7:16 NLT

    And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh…
    Genesis 6:3 KJV

    There comes a time when even God says, “That’s enough!”
    We must be diligent to pray for our lost loved ones and the lost all around us while there is time for them to change, before their hearts are so hardened that only judgment can bring them to the revelation of God. Our Father has given us a window of intercession; we cannot get distracted; we cannot avoid it; we cannot procrastinate. We must pray while He will let us.

  8. iLove the Kingdom
    Wow, the Lord is really ticked off…He’s ready to wipe Jerusalem off the face of the earth. In the Old Testament, the Temple was a building, however in the New Testament our body is the Temple. We must clean the temple of the Lord on a daily basis and remove all idol worship.

    1 Thessalonians 4:2-4 KJV  For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.  (3)  For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:  (4)  That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

    1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV  What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  (20)  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

    God is very jealous over His temple. We must clean the temple daily and double check and make sure we are “right” in His sight.

  9. Jeremiah 7

    Create in me a clean heart oh Lord renew in me a right spirit. Search me and know my ways. In Jesus Name. Some where the children of Isreal list a deep love for God the God who had delivered them and fed them. We cannot allow anything to cause us not to obey the voice of God yes their will be times of loneliness, yes times of sacrifice, yes times of being different than your peers but all for a cause, the kingdom of God. He is Worthy to be served and it can be done with gladness.
    Righteousness Peace joy in the Holy Ghost that’s the kingdom of God.

  10. 3 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

    22 For when I brought your forefathers out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commandments about burnt offerings and sacrifices,
    23 but I gave them this commandment: obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways I command you, that it may go well with you.
    24 But they did not listen or pay attention; instead they follow the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts they went backward not forward.

  11. Jeremiah 7:3 & 5-7
    3) Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
    5) For if you throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor;
    6) If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt;
    7) Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

    True repentance is more than just asking God to forgive you of your sins. It’s a turning away from. It’s amending or changing the way you were going and the things you were doing (from friends, places you go, the way you talk, the way you treat people, etc…) and walking in the ways of God and living according to His Word.

  12. 16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.
    17 Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

    God has decided to judge and the time for prayer for this people is gone. This world will also reach the point when it is time for judgement. But while it is still day and a time to labor, prayer for the lost must go forth, esp as we see that day approach. We must be ready, repented and an example for those who are coming to follow.

  13. 19 Am I the one they are hurting?” asks the Lord. “Most of all, they hurt themselves, to their own shame.” (NLT)

    What most people don’t realize when they begin going backwards: the two most important people you’re hurting are yourself and God. He grieves for His people who choose this world because He knows their end. We must intercede for those who do not understand the harm they are in while God allows us.

  14. 24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

    This verse reminds me the term we use when someone leaves the church “backsliding ” whenever your not moving forward you put yourself in a position to lose momentum and spiritual progress. We should pursue God and strive to “apprehend that which we have been apprehended ” as Paul states and go forward with God!

  15. Can you hear me now?

    13 And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the Lord, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

    I have found there are two types of listeners; those who are present but passively listening and those who are actively listening to understand the subject. Passive listeners more or less take up space. They are present out of duty and may glean a few highpoints but would rather be somewhere else. When asked participation questions they generally need additional direction and recaps of what has been asked. Active listeners are not perfect people. Sometimes they can get lost in the wealth of information being presented. I believe somewhere between is the perfect balance.

    These examples apply to instructional presentations and classroom environments. Spiritually, we must strive to be active listeners. When God calls our name, we must be ready to answer and perform what may be asked. What are the consequences if we miss our window of opportunity? God has a purpose for our life and He has a purpose for the words He speaks to us through ministers and our time spent in His word. God is planning to use us in ways we never dreamed possible, but first we must be trained. When opportunities come, we know how to stop and think through them by asking the Lord to show us how to respond. We are not reacting anymore; we are responding according to what we have learned from God.

  16. THY KINGDOM COME

    The LORD is not speaking to some lost, uneducated, sinners of that day. The LORD is speaking to the people that have followed GOD, but have stopped seeking The Kingdom of GOD, they have turned their worship to idols and not the KING of Kings.

    As Disciples of JESUS we must guard our eyes, ears and thoughts to not allow our focus, worship and sacrifices to be toward anything other than the Kingdom of GOD.

    The LORD JESUS is more interested in our obedience than he is our sacrifices.

    The prophet Samuel confirmed this Kingdom principal in:

    1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
    23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

    Disobedience is the direct opposite of Obedience and Rebellion is the direct opposite of Submission. In the Kingdom of GOD we will Submit and Obey to experience the promises of the KING. However as we learn in verses 32-34 of this chapter, the future and hope of the rebellious is very gloom.

  17. these people all followed a ritual like “religion” they all still lived in a sinful life style. This was religion There was no personal relationship to Jesus.
    They would attend church and , teach , sing , run bus, greet , play instruments, etc. yet all these labors meant nothing as if it was a empty act with no purpose .
    From now on we should do these unto the lord ,are will must be his but we cant know his will without a relationship with him.
    We must have a relationship with Jesus and ditch religion .

  18. 23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

  19. 2 Stand in the gate of the Lord‘s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the Lord.

    3 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

  20. 33 And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heavens, and for the beast of the earth, and none shall fray them away.

  21. “But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭7:23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    He said it!

  22. An interesting reminder from the prophet: ‘For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.’ Just like Samuel would say to Saul, God cares more about our obedience than what we bring to sacrifice. He is measuring the depth of our devotion, not the depth of our physical provisions.

    Jesus gave a similar reminder: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This was the first and greatest commandment. He wanted our love to him to be first and foremost in everything we do for him. He is not impressed with our limited abilities or meager possessions, he wants to know that our heart is seeking after him. That our desire is to please him. That our thoughts are first to his kingdom rather than our immediate needs. He is capable of providing us with everything we need, but how can he trust his treasure in our hands if our heart is not settled on him? O bless the Lord all my soul and all that is within me! Bless his name for he is truly worthy of all praise!

  23. 7:24 but they heartened not,not inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward,and not forward.
    Praying and continue to pray for our family( because we all have someone…) love ones.

  24. 6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

    7 Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

    8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

    9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

    10 And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

    We cannot come to Gods house any kind of way. We cannot go out and sin come to church and act like everything is alright. God knows the heart. You can hide from man but not God.

  25. 13 And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the Lord, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
    14 Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
    15 And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.
    16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

    What a hopeless and dangerous place to be in when God gives up on you and tells His prophet to stop praying for you. God’s people and their prayers are the only bridge the sinner has to God so let us not be weary in well doing! Yet, God said He will not always strive with man. There comes a time when God draws the line and says enough…[Rom 1:28 KJV] 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
    [2Th 2:10-12 KJV] 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

    [Heb 10:31 KJV] 31 [It is] a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

  26. And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the Lord, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

    Sometimes you feel like God’s not there Enjoy waiting on him to do something for you and answer your prayers but what gods waiting for is for you to listen you think God’s not listening but it’s really you you’re the problem that’s the problem with most of the world right now they blame it all on God but what about them.

  27. Jeremiah 7:21-23
    These verses do not minimize the importance of the Old Testament sacrifices, but call attention of the necessity of the believer living a life of total Obedience and devotion to God. The scriptures consistently teach the religious observations devoid of spiritual reality are worthless.

    Psalm 51:16,17

    For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delighteth not in burnt offering. 17. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

    Thank you Jesus! !!

  28. If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:
    7 Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

    This reminds me of James chapter 1 at the very end of the chapter James is telling of religion where a man that seems to be religious and doesn’t bridle his tongue he has a vain religion But True Religion is to visit the fatherless and the widows and their Affliction and it keep himself unspotted from the world. We can lose every promise just in the way we treat other people it doesn’t matter how much we think we are inviting in the spirit how we treat those that are in pain highly reflects how God will bless us

  29. 2Stand in the gate of the Lord‘s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the Lord.
    3 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

    Lets dwell in His kingdom.

  30. Hannah: “8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.” No matter how smooth it sounds lying words will not bring you anywhere closer to the Lord. Instead the words of truth will guide you to the Lord. When you trust in the Lord and listen to his words you will continue to walk forward. When you decide to listen to this world then you will not go forward in the Lord but instead you will go backwards. His word is the truth and there is nothing that can stand against it. The ways of the Lord will guide you and strengthen you. Always stay with the Lord and do not trust in the Lord words of this world.

  31. 16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

    Lord have mercy on those that are lost,the backsliders, those that love this world more than you, etc. Have compassion toward them Lord. Your Word says they’ll be a day where “enough is enough.” We must pray for those while we can before God doesn’t hear us anymore.

  32. “But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭7:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    We must seek His will not our own. We must decrease and Jesus must increase in our lives. It comes with dying daily in prayer, reading and applying the Word and fasting.

    “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:4-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  33. To hear the voice of God. To understand his word. Is what we shall long to have. We need to listen I need to listen to the voice of God. And not go my own way.

  34. Obedience is better than sacrifice

    23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

    We often put great emphasis on sacrifice and may times all God is looking for is someone that is willing to obey. Obey His voice, obey His Word, and obey His directing.

    When we run away from His voice or direction and life seems to be falling apart we must recognize that our disobedience has lifted His hand of provision and protection. Like the scripture says obey that it may be well with you.

  35. 23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

    The commandments of the Lord are clear, walk in His ways, follow after Him, seek Him first, repent and turn from our ways, and it will be well with us. However, we allow our flesh to determine what “we feel” we should do and sometime this gets us into trouble, just like Israel in the setting of this chapter. They did what was right in their own eyes, and not what God had commanded them to do.

    We must search out His ways, and walk therein, crucifying our flesh daily to live out His purpose daily – Thy Kingdom Come!

  36. 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

    4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, are these.

    5 For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

    6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

    No observances, professions, or supposed revelations, will profit, if men do not amend their ways and their doings. None can claim an interest in free salvation, who allow themselves in the practice of known sin, or live in the neglect of known duty. They thought that the temple they profaned would be their protection. But all who continue in sin because grace has abounded, or that grace may abound, make Christ the minister of sin; and the cross of Christ, rightly understood, forms the most effectual remedy to such poisonous sentiments. The Son of God gave himself for our transgressions, to show the excellence of the Divine law, and the evil of sin. Never let us think we may do wickedness without suffering for it.

  37. While you were doing these wicked things, says the Lord , I spoke to you about it repeatedly, but you would not listen. I called out to you, but you refused to answer.(Jeremiah 7:13 NLT)

    God repeatedly tries to warn his people of the destruction their sin is leading them to. They cover their ears ignoring God and rejecting the call to repent. God’s judgment will wake them up to the reality of the death that follows sin. Rejecting God means rejecting eternal life.

  38. Do you really think you can steal, murder, commit adultery, lie, and burn incense to Baal and all those other new gods of yours, and then come here and stand before me in my Temple and chant, “We are safe!”—only to go right back to all those evils again?
    Jeremiah 7:9‭-‬10 NLT

    One can be lost inside the house of God. No matter how much one can be in the temple it all comes down to an issue of the heart and sin.
