Jeremiah 29

Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the Lord.

10 For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

15 Because ye have said, The Lord hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

16 Know that thus saith the Lord of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

17 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:

19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the Lord, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the Lord.

20 Hear ye therefore the word of the Lord, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

21 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

23 Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the Lord.

24 Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

25 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

26 The Lord hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the Lord, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.

27 Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?

28 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying,

31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the Lordconcerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

32 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the Lord; because he hath taught rebellion against the Lord.

  1. 26. “The LORD has appointed you to replace Jehoiada as the priest in charge of the house of the LORD. You are responsible to put into stocks and neck irons any crazy man who claims to be a prophet.
    27. So why have you done nothing to stop Jeremiah from Anathoth, who pretends to be a prophet among you?

    31. “Send an open letter to all the exiles in Babylon. Tell them, ‘This is what the LORD says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Since he has prophesied to you when I did not send him and has tricked you into believing his lies,
    32. I will punish him and his family. None of his descendants will see the good things I will do for my people, for he has incited you to rebel against me. I, the LORD, have spoken!'” NLT

    When you speak against a true man of God (even if you claim to be a man of God yourself) you not only put yourself in the path of God’s wrath, but your family and future generations, as well.

  2. Verses 11-14 MSG “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. “When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree. “I’ll turn things around for you. I’ll bring you back from all the countries into which I drove you”—God’s Decree—“bring you home to the place from which I sent you off into exile. You can count on it.” Trusting in the Lord and his plan for your life is key. Sometimes we don’t understand why we are going through something, or can’t see how something is going to help or why we have to do something that is being asked of us; but, through it all we have to hold onto our promise! We can’t always see the big picture; but, through faith we trust in the one who can…..Jesus.

  4. “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Keep moving forward, the word says it plain as day. He has plans for good and hope for you and I, not for disaster. That’s how you know each day that Gods with you. Only God can get you through a day in one piece. Being on Jesus side he gives us dominion and authority over the enemy. Now we have to use that in order for the plan of Good and Hope to be fulfilled.

    iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

  5. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
    12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
    13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

    I will never forget the first time that I heard and read this verse. I have such a unique name and you don’t find it on many places that provide names on the accessories. I found a card that actually had my name on it and below it had this first and at the time I had no idea what it meant. Years later I love the scripture and it always speaks to me personally, although it is for everybody. What I love most about this scripture is that for a few chapters prior God is talking about how angry he is and what is going to happen to the Jews over the next few Generations but then ends with a promise. I liken it unto a parent spanking their child for doing something wrong, looking them in the eye, and then telling them how much they love them.

  6. Jeremiah 29

    Amen.

  7. Jeremiah 29:7
    “And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: For in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.”

    No matter what your situation is, you can have PEACE in the mist of it. All you have to do is Pray for PEACE.
    Thank You JESUS that You are the Prince of Peace!

  8. 7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it, for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

  9. 10 For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

    What comforting words for the captives there in Babylon and for us today as well. There are times in life that all we can see is the hard situation at hand and yet his word promises us peace, not evil. We must look beyond the trial of today and know there are better days coming, encouraging ourselves in the Lord as King David did.

  10. 10 For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

    The Israelites were “sent” to Babylon for a period of time. They were given instructions to live pray for peace for their city and to live in peace until the Lord would visit them again.

    We have been sent to our city. Are we praying for the peace of God in our city? Are we living in peace?

    Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

    Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

    Today I choose PEACE!

  11. iLove the Kingdom

    “You’re Grounded”
    Jeremiah 29:10 “For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.”

    Wow, this chapter is filled with amazing principles in which we could all apply to our lives. One interesting thought that came to mind while I was reading this is that basically Judah is getting grounded…”You are grounded…for seventy years”. Yep, God was dishing out the punishment and Jeremiah was the tool in God’s hand. All the other prophets could prophesy immediate deliverance, but they would simply be “Fake News” in the Jerusalem Times. God encourages His people to just “accept” their punishment in the “Big House” of Babylon and instead of causing trouble, to pray for the land in which they were being held captive.

    Wow…goes against our human nature doesn’t it.

  12. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

    15 Because ye have said, The Lord hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

  13. 10 For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
    [Jer 29:11 NLT] 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

    The previous chapter showed the false prophet’s message that Israel would only be in captivity 2 years, while Jeremiah’s says 70 years. Verse 11 shows how God has long term plans for good for His people. Be patient if God has given you a word and it has not come to pass yet. Moses spent 40 years on the backside of the desert before becoming Israel’s leader. Joseph spent many years before God’s dream for him came to pass. David was anointed king and spent years running for his life before it ever came to pass. Be patient, wait on the Lord!

  14. This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let your prophets and fortune-tellers who are with you in the land of Babylon trick you. Do not listen to their dreams, because they are telling you lies in my name. I have not sent them,” says the Lord . This is what the Lord says: “You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord . “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
    Jeremiah 29:8‭-‬11 nLT
    If Jerusalem obey GOD’s Commandments and listen to what God has to say than God will don’t worship other God’s then restore them again even though Jerusalem is in Captain with Babylon it will only last of a little while why because if Mercy
    GOD I am praying that your kingdom come in my work in my home and in my life I don’t ever want to get to the point when I pushed you away I don’t ever want to get to the point where the things of this world is more important than worship you

  15. And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

    For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord , thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
    Jeremiah 29:7‭, ‬11 KJV

    Bro Graham quoted the Scripture last night:. When a man’s ways please the Lord , he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him, (Proverbs 16:7 KJV). Peace has nothing to do with your circumstances and everything to do with your relationship and obedience to God. You can be blessed, and those around you can be blessed, if you will keep a right, humble, and loving spirit before God. Everywhere Joseph went, he was given favor because of his attitude and service to God and others. You can have peace even in captivity if you will seek to please God.

    For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
    1 Peter 3:10‭-‬13 KJV

  16. THY KINGDOM COME
    SPEAK PEACE

    7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

    Life is filled with opportunity. We have the power of choice, we choose how we respond to circumstances that we are faced with. The prophet here instructs those that are in bondage here to “Make the BEST” of their situation.

    We make our conditions more conducive for PEACE when we SPEAK PEACE rather than complain, murmur, criticize or blame. This is a Kingdom Principal PEACE.

    11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
    12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

    The Kingdom of GOD is represented by the PEACE of GOD. Even in times of trouble, tribulation or turmoil we can have and live in PEACE. We know the Kingdom of GOD is about HIS desire for us to be Victorious through HIM.

    John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

    Lets GO make PEACE today and initiate The Kingdom of GOD in our lives and situations.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo

  17. 6 Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! 7 And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.” NLT

    Sometimes in life, we are going to be placed in situations and circumstances that we just don’t want to be in. How we respond during those times will determine our blessing.

    We had something different planned out for our lives, we thought we would at a different point of our life by now, yet God states in Jeremiah 11 “For I know the thoughts I have for you”.

    For THY KINGDOM to come we must surrender our thoughts for our lives and PRAISE Him for the thoughts He knows for for us.

    MULTIPLY and Work for PEACE in our time of waiting, we make the best of every season of your life!

  18. Josiah: Israel could have been taken into captivity so much less if they had just listened to God. It is so much easier to listen than to just do your own thing. If we Go where God wants us to Go and Do what God wants to Do and since God is perfect then we can be Going the right direction and Doing the right things!
    10 For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
    Even though Israel did backslide God is a merciful God and gave them another chance. God had them GO into captivity so they could learn to seek Him. However we do not have to wait seventy years for God to visit us. So, let us GO DO THE WILL OF THE LORD and seek Him!

  19. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

    12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

    13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

    These words have been very special to me especially verse 11. There have been many times that I needed the encouragement of this verse to help me and its been very comforting every time.

  20. God knows the way that you take! He is faithful and true. He knows the end from the beginning. Don’t give up on God because he hasn’t gave up on you!!

  21. 7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

    9 years ago God moved me here to Fort Worth. I moved here for “school” but God had other plans. At first I didn’t like living in Fort Worth because my heart was in something else. But 3 years ago the Lord renewed my mind, transformed me, and made me love more and more this city!! Never thought that I could love a city and the people so much as I do now!!!! I am proud to live and be part of THE PENTECOSTALS OF FORT WORTH and to have birthed through God’s will LOS PENTECOSTALES DE FORT WORTH!!! I daily pray for this city, for the revival to increase, to be able to reach the harvest, and to work daily for HIS KINGDOM!!! Thank you Jesus for sending me to this city!! Fort Worth Convention here we come in Jesus Name!!! Growing the Kingdom of God!!!

  22. v11

    So thankful that GOD has particular thoughts for each person’s life, and HE will provide ideas direction for anyone who seeks it.
    Seeking to know GOD and HIS will for our lives will result in an abundantly blessed life that will positively influence others for HIS KINGDOM.
    HIS KINGDOM COME!

  23. 7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

    Praying for peace in the mist of kaos is not a waist of time but a command from the Lord. I believe He is teaching us to activate our faith. This world is not a loss cause but God is able to deliver and send peace He just need night warriors to war in the spirit for the people.

    The things around us may be crazy but we are to “seek peace”

  24. The people of God must watch out for false prophets. They will tell you what you want to hear and detour you from what God needs for you to hear. Don’t allow the things and people of this world to distract you from the plan God has for you.

  25. 10 For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

    Even in all their rebellion and sin the Lord still loved them enough to bring them home after their “time out” was over. I’m so thankful in such a merciful, gracious, loving King of Kings! God l, You are mighty and Great!

  26. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

    Let’s seek Jesus with all of our heart! I want to find Him!

  27. Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

    2 (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

    3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

    4 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

    5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

    6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

    7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

    The written word of God is as truly given by inspiration of God as his spoken word. The zealous servant of the Lord will use every means to profit those who are far off, as well as those who are near him. The art of writing is very profitable for this end; and by the art of printing it is rendered most beneficial for circulating the knowledge of the word of God. God’s sending to the captives by this letter would show that he had not forsaken them, though he was displeased, and corrected them. If they live in the fear of God, they may live comfortably in Babylon. In all conditions of life, it is our wisdom and duty not to throw away the comfort of what we may have, because we have not all we would have. They are directed to seek the good of the country where they were captives. While the king of Babylon protected them, they must live quiet and peaceable lives under him, in all godliness and honesty; patiently leaving it to God to work deliverance for them in due time.

  28. 4 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

    5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

    After all that they have gone through even in the chastisement of the Lord, he gives hope to the people. Keep on living life and do not fall into despair.

  29. Notice the instruction of the Lord to his people even while in captivity: ‘Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them; Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.’ We have to remember that God was taking them here for their good. He allowed them to pray for Jerusalem, but not too pine after it in sorrow. They were asked to do something that we are also commanded today, to continue until he comes. We’re not hiding in the hills or removed on the mountaintops, we’re asked to live our lives amongst those in the world until he comes for us.

    He does this for a purpose: ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.’ God is not looking so much to where we are, as where he wants us to be! When we recognize that, ‘Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you!’ He promises that he will be found by those who seek him! And everyone in the world around us will see that testimony because he has left us among them, so when they begin to seek they will know where he can be found. So allow his light to shine! Show the world around us the joy of those who have an expected end: the promise of heaven with him!

  30. 7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

    God doesn’t want for his people who are carried away into captivity to sulk and live defeated. He wants them to multiply and prosper in a land that is foreign. “When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” Pro 16:7.
