Jeremiah 31

At the same time, saith the Lord, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

Thus saith the Lord, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.

For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the Lordour God.

For thus saith the Lord; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Lord, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.

Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.

They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

10 Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.

11 For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.

12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.

15 Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

16 Thus saith the Lord; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.

17 And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, that thy children shall come again to their own border.

18 I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the Lordmy God.

19 Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

20 Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the Lord.

21 Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.

22 How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? for the Lord hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man.

23 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The Lord bless thee, O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness.

24 And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all the cities thereof together, husbandmen, and they that go forth with flocks.

25 For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.

26 Upon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.

27 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.

28 And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the Lord.

29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.

30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.

31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:

33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

35 Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name:

36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

37 Thus saith the Lord; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the Lord.

38 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the city shall be built to the Lord from the tower of Hananeel unto the gate of the corner.

39 And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath.

40 And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the Lord; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.

15 Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

Notice this verse above sticks out like a sore thumb. Yep, in the verses before it there is great redemption and joy and laughter. Israel is in the mode of celebration and deliverance and then here comes verse 15…”bitter weeping”…Why? Well the answer is simple and is found in the New Testament.

Matthew 2:16-18 NLT Herod was furious when he realized that the wise men had outwitted him. He sent soldiers to kill all the boys in and around Bethlehem who were two years old and under, based on the wise men’s report of the star’s first appearance. (17) Herod’s brutal action fulfilled what God had spoken through the prophet Jeremiah: (18) “A cry was heard in Ramah—weeping and great mourning. Rachel weeps for her children, refusing to be comforted, for they are dead.”

So, here in the middle of the greatest miracle the world has ever seen (God robed in flesh) was the greatest pain and bitter weeping. In the middle of the joy of redemption came forth bitterness. So too will be the case of the second coming of Jesus. Right before Jesus redeems his bride will come the greatest persecution of all…that of the antichrist…Let’s Celebrate!

  2. 15 Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

This is the time for rejoicing! Sons and daughters coming home, fallen saints of God coming back to him. We must look through eyes of faith and not at the present circumstances. He is gathering his people from all the places they have scattered. Endtime revival is now.

  3. 15 Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

16 Thus saith the Lord; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.

This is a promise from the Lord for those who have children who have lost their way. I held on tot his word everyday when my oldest son choose a path away from the Lord. I spoke life and restoration believing in faith that I would see his return. God’s is faithful and the promise was fulfilled.

  4. 13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.

These verses remind me of good song “I’m trading my sorrows, I’m trading my pain and I’m laying it down for the joy of the Lord”. I am so thankful that the Lord is willing to take our sorrows and trade them for the joy of the Lord. That he has filled my soul with fatness and satisfied me with his goodness. Thanks be to God in the highest and blessed be his name.

  5. Jeremiah 31:15-17
    15) Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.
    16) Thus saith the LORD; Refrain thy voice from weeping and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.
    17) And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.

How often have we lamented and weep over the prodigals of POFW? I believe in the prophetic word that was spoken that the prodigals are coming home.
Thank You JESUS for the Harvest of Prodigals coming home!

  6. Josiah: 30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
God will judge people according to their actions. Romans 2:6 says “Who will render every man according to his deeds:” God doesn’t just want a relationship with all of us, He wants a personal relationship with each of us. He died on the cross so that our sins couple be forgiven. Each day we have a chance to seek God. Each day we have a chance to pray. Each day we have a chance to read the word if God. So, each day let’s GO USE THE OPPORTUNITY we have to have a relationship with the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth!

  7. THY KINGDOM COME
    IT IS IN ME

33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Inspiring, Encouraging and Uplifting is the thought and revelation that The Kingdom fo GOD is IN ME. The LORD our GOD, KING of Kings decreed long ago that HE would put HIS Kingdom LAW inside of us. We know this because of HIS love for and to us.

John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

The SPIRIT of TRUTH – JESUS

JESUS = The Holy Ghost = Speaking in tongues as HIS Spirit empowers

Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Just as the LORD our GOD spoke through the prophet; HE put HIS Kingdom law in our hearts.

We do not need to seek any farther than within us to find The Kingdom fo GOD. When we PRAY and PRAY in the SPIRIT (in tongues) we are praying the Kingdom of GOD from within us and identifying ourselves with the KING of Kings and HIS Kingdom.

We are recipients of the promises of GOD through the prophet Jeremiah that he spoke as a hope to Israel, while in captivity.

Thank you King JESUS for your WORD.

  8. Notice the desire of God for unity among his people: ‘At the same time, saith the Lord, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.’ Significantly, he does not say Judah, but Israel. They were divided and Samaria was already forming, but he declares all of them at the same time! The same principle of unity applies to his people today, as is seen in the words of Paul concerning the very purpose of the five fold ministry: ‘For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ’

This is much more the case today as we are of the covenant prophesied where ‘this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.’ We point to the Commandment to baptize and correctly note it’s singular tense. The same is true here. He did not say ‘peoples’ because there is no cause for division amongst the people of God. That same passage from Paul says ‘There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;’ As James would say ‘Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.’ The people of his name, that have his holy spirit within them, should be of one mind… in our unity is our strength!

  9. 13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.

Rejoice in the Lord for what He has done, what He is doing, and what He is going to do! Instead of looking for satisfaction from other relationships, we need to be satisfied in the goodness of God and rejoice in Him!!

  10. “Is not Israel still my son, my darling child?” says the Lord . “I often have to punish him, but I still love him. That’s why I long for him and surely will have mercy on him. Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Mark well the path by which you came. Come back again, my virgin Israel; return to your towns here. How long will you wander, my wayward daughter? For the Lord will cause something new to happen— Israel will embrace her God. ”
    Jeremiah 31:20‭-‬22 NLT
Israel sins is great but God’s love and mercy is greater like a father when we do worng he punish us GOD is our father he love and Care for us but when sin he punish us what get GOD sever to know that he love me to discipline me when I do wrong guide and teach me when I need GOD so love the world that he shed his blood for me thank you for that precious blood

  11. 13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

    Rejoice!

  12. I Love To Worship The Lord
God will restore Israels joy so despite present sufferings Gods people are to look forward expectantly. The future is bright with hope and under the Messiah the nation will be higher than ever. And now Jeremiah leaves the familiar themes to introduce a stunning new revelation God intends to make a New Covenant with Israel that stands with the Law Covenant . That New Covenant will work the inner transformation that will make Israels ultimate blessing possible at last.

  13. 19I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity!
I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.’

We all can say, we’re sorry for what we did as a youngster. As youth, we did many mischievous things that we may regret doing. God has already forgiven you for those things you did as a youth. No matter if you’re young or old, God forgives all your past.

  14. 13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.

Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say again I say rejoice. Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say again I say rejoice!! I think myself happy

  15. 7 For thus saith the Lord; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Lord, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.

Sing, Shout, Praise, and Pray!! Doing all these things with joy!!! Serving the Lord shouldn’t be a drag but a privledge… many are desperate to praise Him or even go to church but can’t for x reason!! However, I have that privledge and liberty to do all these sing, praise, Shout, and pray without anyone telling me not to do it. The only one that can stop me is myself!! Lord I will praise for the rest of my life…

  16. 1 At the same time, saith the Lord, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

2 Thus saith the Lord, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.

3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

4 Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

5 Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.

6 For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the Lordour God.

7 For thus saith the Lord; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Lord, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.

8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.

9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

God assures his people that he will again take them into covenant relation to himself. When brought very low, and difficulties appear, it is good to remember that it has been so with the church formerly. But it is hard under present frowns to take comfort from former smiles; yet it is the happiness of those who, through grace, are interested in the love of God, that it is an everlasting love, from everlasting in the counsels, to everlasting in the continuance. Those whom God loves with this love, he will draw to himself, by the influences of his Spirit upon their souls. When praising God for what he has done, we must call upon him for the favours his church needs and expects. When the Lord calls, we must not plead that we cannot come; for he that calls us, will help us, will strengthen us. The goodness of God shall lead them to repentance. And they shall weep for sin with more bitterness, and more tenderness, when delivered out of their captivity, than when groaning under it. If we take God for our Father, and join the church of the first-born, we shall want nothing that is good for us. These predictions doubtless refer also to a future gathering of the Israelites from all quarters of the globe. And they figuratively describe the conversion of sinners to Christ, and the plain and safe way in which they are led.

  17. 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

That is our job in reaching people, to teach people to know the Lord and how to follow him. There is no personal conviction set on another human being that will draw them closer to God then that of a personal relationship with Christ. It’s not are outward standard of living nor is it our doctrinal beliefs that will draw people in, it is the joy that is inside of us during our storms and our personal walk with Christ that will make people wonder, and we will use that as the opportunity to witness

  18. But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel after those days,” says the Lord . “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
    Jeremiah 31:33 NLT

After their captivity and chastisement the Lord now has given the people a promise to restore. In it you find that everyone will be responsible for their own sin. The new covenant with them is that God will put his Laws in the inside them, write it in their hearts that He will be their God. There are those out there that have been away from the Lord but I see this as a promise to restore and will no longer be cast away but God’s children perpetually. even if we fail and are gone far from God his infinite Love will never reject or forget us. Oh that me may pray that he writes his Laws upon our hearts that we will be his people and He our God.

  19. Thus saith the Lord ; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not. Thus saith the Lord ; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord ; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord , that thy children shall come again to their own border.
    Jeremiah 31:15‭-‬17 KJV

There is hope for every mother and father who has been weeping over their backslidden children. We have taught them, and they shall not depart from it in their hearts. God is able to bring them home. As the preacher recently said, “They may not be living right right now, but they shall die right!” He was the third preacher to speak to our church in the last couple of months with assurance that God is preparing our backslidden children to come home. I believe He is saying to us parents even now that the time for would is over and the time for confident expectation of their return has come.

Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
    Isaiah 43:5‭-‬7 KJV

  20. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord , that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord : But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord , I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
    Jeremiah 31:31‭-‬33 KJV

God has given us a new and better covenant.

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
    Hebrews 8:6 KJV

We have received the better promise: the gift of the Holy Ghost. His law is now written on the tables of our hearts instead of tables of stone.

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
    2 Corinthians 3:3 KJV

  21. 15 Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

  22. hen shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.

When God intervenes in a situation that means that he’s turning it around. It means that he’s making a way out of no way and he’s coming through for us. We should rejoice in the fact that God is turning our situation around.

  23. 6 Thus saith the Lord; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.

17 And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, that thy children shall come again to their own border.

  24. Verses 2-6 MSG “This is the way God put it: “They found grace out in the desert, these people who survived the killing. Israel, out looking for a place to rest, met God out looking for them!” God told them, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love! And so now I’ll start over with you and build you up again, dear virgin Israel. You’ll resume your singing, grabbing tambourines and joining the dance. You’ll go back to your old work of planting vineyards on the Samaritan hillsides, And sit back and enjoy the fruit—oh, how you’ll enjoy those harvests! The time’s coming when watchmen will call out from the hilltops of Ephraim: ‘On your feet! Let’s go to Zion, go to meet our God!’” So many times we fall away or stray and wonder where God is; but, he has never left our side or stopped loving us!

  25. 2 Thus saith the Lord, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.

Grace is God blessing us with something we don’t deserve and mercy is God doesn’t give us something that we do deserve. Jesus died for our sins out of mercy and out of grace gives us the gift of the Holy Ghost. We probably wouldn’t consider that the wilderness would be considered an act of grace. However, it is better than dying from the sword. These that are left are the remnant. He has spared them to go through a process through the wilderness to recognize their sin, accept God’s punishment for it, and to turn back to God. This wilderness is an opportunity for Israel to find peace and rest in relationship with God again.
