Jeremiah 34

The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,

Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:

And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.

Yet hear the word of the Lord, O Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the Lord of thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword:

But thou shalt die in peace: and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours for thee; and they will lament thee, saying, Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the Lord.

Then Jeremiah the prophet spake all these words unto Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,

When the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah: for these defenced cities remained of the cities of Judah.

This is the word that came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty unto them;

That every man should let his manservant, and every man his maidservant, being an Hebrew or an Hebrewess, go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a Jew his brother.

10 Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his manservant, and every one his maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.

11 But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.

12 Therefore the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

13 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondmen, saying,

14 At the end of seven years let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.

15 And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:

16 But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.

17 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the Lord, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

18 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, which have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in twain, and passed between the parts thereof,

19 The princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, which passed between the parts of the calf;

20 I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies shall be for meat unto the fowls of the heaven, and to the beasts of the earth.

21 And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which are gone up from you.

22 Behold, I will command, saith the Lord, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.

  1. The lord will follow through with all of his promises and he will fulfill what he promised. The lord is not a one way giver we have to do our part as well Life is not all rainbows and hearts it will have some tough trials but when we stick it out the lord will provide. In Jesus Name!

  2. 6 Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the Lord.

7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all thy quarters.

8 And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the Lord did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭13:6-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It took seven days of unleavened bread to cleanse their ways. Egypt was sin, and it took seven days to get them out and on the seventh day they feasted. They rejoiced, they praised God. They were finally free from bondage and that sly hellish shriek of temptation was now able to be identified.

13 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondmen, saying,

it Also took seven years of being enslaved before the Hebrew was set free.

    There’s 7 angels with 7 trumpets

There’s a lot of 7’s in the Bible and I believe that’s the final call before we’re set
FREE. Think about it God created everything in 6 days and on the 7th he rested. He was free to see everything he made.
It took 7days of unleavened bread for the Israelites to be set free out of bondage.
It took 7 years of being enslaved before the Hebrew was set free.
It’s gonna take 7 angels with 7 trumpets before Jesus comes back to free his bride.

People 7 is a number of freedom the number we acknowledge and take in a deep breath and thank God for everything.
iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

  3. 16 But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.

  4. It seems Jeremiah s faith still is being tested.
We find ourselves in some situations we do not understand sometimes doing and saying the wrong thing . These are times we can be thankful for the mercy of God.
Jeremiah continued to do what he was called upon by God. It seemed everything around him was not as pleasant as he had hoped yet he had to keep his faith.
He had a mission to complete even in the midst of adversity.
The enemy tries to bring conflict from every angle but we must still fight against him. Through humility and regaining strength in His presence.
    God is faithful.

  5. 15 Recently you repented and did what was right, following my command. You freed your slaves and made a solemn covenant with me in the Temple that bears my name.
16 But now you have shrugged off your oath and defiled my name by taking back the men and women you had freed, forcing them to be slaves once again. (NLT)

Disobedience and rebellion lead to destruction. God desires His people to be free. “I’m free indeed, in Christ I’m free indeed. No chains are holding me, it’s who I choose to be… Was blind but now I see, it’s who I’m mean to be!”

  6. God knows there would be men, women, boys and girls who would want to rejoice in his love. This wicked world will continue until the harvest is complete. When the harvest is finally complete, this room, this computer, those trees, that lake, those flowers, this universe will be destroyed and everything will be made new. We need to live for God with a wholly sold out heart and soul. Sometimes, though we often act like we do God a favor by showing up and He should appreciate that I am here. He does not need us, we need him.

  7. Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
    Jeremiah 38:4 KJV

The carnal mind always seems to have a way of accusing those who speak the truth of being against the people or of being hateful. A sinful heart can’t see the Word of God as good and must find justification for rejecting it. In this day, they say speaking the truth is “homophobic,” “bigoted,” or “hate speech.” However, the truth, no matter how received, is always for the good of the people.

  8. One has to wonder if the final chapter of Jerusalem before their captivity would have unfolded differently had they remained faithful to the liberty that had been given to all of God’s people. God’s testimony of their heart was ‘And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:’ So many times he had called, so many times he had spoken, and finally something got through and from the king on down, they made a covenant before God that every person in Israel would be free. In the passion of the moment every one of them were bound together to respond in unity… but then the cost of their sacrifice became evident.

It would have been better had they never made the commitment than to break it after doing so unto the Lord. It wasn’t just an inconvenience, in God’s eyes ‘ye turned and polluted my name’. Their final opportunity for mercy was lost when they retracted their act of mercy towards their brethren. Jesus clearly speaks against the pride of taking vows, but our commitments to him are made in the same earnest sincerity in the humility of our service to him. When those commitments have been made before him, they are an act of sacrifice unto the Lord… and those sacrifices are holy unto the Lord. We need to remember the examples of those who have gone before and remain faithful, for moreover it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful. Let our service unto him exhibit the love and commitment of those truly dedicated to his kingdom!

  9. Josiah: 17 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the Lord, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
The word of the Lord is not like man which can lie. When the Lord gives us a covenant or a promise or a word to GO do something we should do it. When we listen to the word of the Lord we have God on our side. Yet when people start leaving the word of the Lord they lose their covering and their protection leaving them open to the attacks of this world. So, let us make sure we are always building on the rock and walking on the straight path.

  10. 15 Recently you repented and did what was right, following my command. You freed your slaves and made a solemn covenant with me in the Temple that bears my name.
16 But now you have shrugged off your oath and defiled my name by taking back the men and women you had freed, forcing them to be slaves once again. (NLT)

We must understand the significance of an oath made to God. God does not play with oaths and we should not either. Our commitments to God should be permanent as much as is in our ability. God understanding that we are human will be kind and merciful towards us if we make a mistake and somehow don’t fulfill our commitments but he will not tolerate blatant rebellion concerning what we have promised Him.

  11. 9 That every man should let his manservant, and every man his maidservant, being an Hebrew or an Hebrewess, go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a Jew his brother.
10 Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his manservant, and every one his maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.

Once you have made the decision to obey God you can’t turn around and go back without hurting your own self and others. “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
    Luke 9:62

  12. “This is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: I made a covenant with your ancestors long ago when I rescued them from their slavery in Egypt. I told them that every Hebrew slave must be freed after serving six years. But your ancestors paid no attention to me. Recently you repented and did what was right, following my command. You freed your slaves and made a solemn covenant with me in the Temple that bears my name. “Therefore, this is what the Lord says: Since you have not obeyed me by setting your countrymen free, I will set you free to be destroyed by war, disease, and famine. You will be an object of horror to all the nations of the earth.
    Jeremiah 34:13‭-‬15‭, ‬17 NLT
The Lord our GOD is a promise keeper everything he promised came to pass
    GOD doesn’t break promise

  13. THY KINGDOM COME

The Kingdom of GOD is THAT. HIS Kingdom, we place ourselves in grave danger when we attempt to run HIS Kingdom.

We are called to forgive as we have been forgiven. We winess here the judgement of the LORD on the people of GOD for disobedience. When the LORD says in HIS law and or Kingdom to let it GO, we must let IT and them GO.

In The Kingdom of GOD we are instructed that “vengeance is mine says the LORD”. We must allow JESUS to fight these battles and not personally imprison people to “make them pay”.

JESUS help us to willingly and obediently follow your Kingdom order and principals.

  14. 15 And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:

16 But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.

God has promised liberty and freedom to all you ask, however there are some that enjoy the attention they receive from “bondage.” It’s time to let the things that bind us go. Those things are not always sins, but some are weights that keep us from achieving and attaining where God desires us to go. As the new year approaches it’s time to examine the things we are carrying around and see if we it’s time to shake them loose so we can be free to grow in the Kingdom as God desires us. to.

  15. iLove the Kingdom

As I was reading this chapter this morning the following just leaped off the screen and hit me right between the ole eyes…

Jeremiah 34:15-16 KJV  And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:  (16)  But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.

Did ya’ll see that? God was pleased that Judah had set their brothers free, but just a few days later they took them back into bondage again. Now in order to understand what is going on in this passage, we have to understand that the only reason these Jewish people were servants was because they were in “debt”. They were taken in as servants in order to repay their debts. According to the law, every 7 years God gave the servants the privilege of going free. In today’s reading, the king gave the decree to allow all the servants to go free in which they were indeed set free, but contrary to the law the nobles grabbed the folks they had just let go and demanded they serve them. This angered the Lord greatly.

The same is true with us today. God demands we forgive our brothers. Yes we are commanded to forgive those who owe us (whether money or if they have sinned against us). Many of us do the initial forgiving but we soon pick up the offence again and hold it against the folks that we had already forgiven.

  16. 15 And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:

16 But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.

  17. 11but later they changed their minds. They took back the men and women they had freed, forcing them to be slaves again.

This is a common theme, many decide to serve God, but after a while change their mind. For whatever reason, they use an excuse to no longer serve God. They don’t realize they become slaves to sin, bad habits and to the devil. God allows us to choose to serve him or the devil. I thank God everyday that me and my family serve God.

  18. 15 And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour, and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name.16 But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.

  19. Jeremiah 34:17 (English Amp) Therefore thus says the Lord: You have not listened to Me and obeyed Me in proclaiming liberty each one to his brother and neighbor. Behold, I proclaim to you liberty _ to the sword, to pestilence, and to famine, says the Lord; and I will make you to be tossed to and fro and to be a horror among all the kingdom’s of the earth ! DONT try to fight your own battles ! Forgive people, pray for them. We can’t do anything without God. God is control of this earth not man. Vengeance is mine says the Lord. Forget your past and forgive each other. Love one another as God loves you. Forgive so that God will forgive you.

  20. 15 And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
16 But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.

This generation must turn to God and follow him. Let His Kingdom reign in our luves.

  21. Recently you repented and did what is right in my sight: Each of you proclaimed freedom to your own people. You even made a covenant before me in the house that bears my Name. But now you have turned around and profaned my name; each of you has taken back the male and female slaves you had set free to go where they wished. You have forced them to become your slaves again. “Therefore this is what the Lord says: You have not obeyed me; you have not proclaimed freedom to your own people. So I now proclaim ‘freedom’ for you, declares the Lord —‘freedom’ to fall by the sword, plague and famine. I will make you abhorrent to all the kingdoms of the earth.
    Jeremiah 34:15‭-‬17

We must be careful when we make promises to the Lord because just as we hold Him accountable for His promises He also holds us accountable. We must always follow through with commitments we make to Him and not go back on our word . One broken commitment can be change our life and destiny.

  22. Jeremiah 34:15-16 (AMP)
    15) So then you recently turned and repented, doing what was right in My sight, each man proclaiming release (from servitude) to his countryman (who was his bond servant); and you had made a covenant before Me in the house which is called by My Name.
    16) Yet you backed out (of the covenant) and profaned My Name, and each man took back his servants, male and female, whom had been set free in accordance with their desire, and you brought them into servitude (again) to be your male servants and your female servants.

“You made a covenant before Me in the house which is called by My Name; yet you backed out.”
This should be a warning to us to be careful of making promises to God in His House (church), and then when we walk out of church, we turn around and break those promises.

  23. 13 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondmen, saying,

In a week’s time we are about to sign our leadership covenant for the up and coming year and it is that time to reflect on our faithfulness and our commitment to the church and the kingdom.

  24. 22 Behold, I will command, saith the Lord, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.

The Lord will always be faithful to keep his words but are we his creation faithful to commit to what is asked of us?

  25. The Lord had warned His people many times about the king of Babylon coming to take over Judah. Yet, they didn’t listen and suffered for not heeding God’s warning. We always do well to heed God’s warnings!

  26. “‘But listen to this promise from the Lord , O Zedekiah, king of Judah. This is what the Lord says: You will not be killed in war but will die peacefully. People will burn incense in your memory, just as they did for your ancestors, the kings who preceded you. They will mourn for you, crying, “Alas, our master is dead!” This I have decreed, says the Lord .’”
    Jeremiah 34:4‭-‬5 NLT

  27. It is the heart of God to draw man out of sin and it breaks His heart to see the people disobey Him and follow their own way. It is his desire to pour blessings upon us not curses. We must learn to obey his voice rather than man’s. We must also follow after him in all things.

  28. v 3
This verse reminds me of this scripture
1Peter 3:20 ” Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein, few that is, eight souls were saved by water ”

So thankful that our loving GOD warns us .HE does not sneak up behind mankind like a mugger on a dark street.
Just like in the days of Noah the people did not respond to the warning .Human’s self will .
    THY KINGDOM COME !!!

  29. We are able to win every fight with God on our side. We must abide by his word and not hesitate to follow his commandments. God gives us wisdom to make the right decision. As Christians, we cannot allow the things of this world to cloud our judgement.

  30. “Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his manservant, and every one his maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go. But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭34:10-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When God tells you to do something he does not expect it to be done half way. You can’t commit to him and then turn back. You must follow through with what you are told to do.

  31. Verses 15-16 MSG “‘And now, you—what have you done? First you turned back to the right way and did the right thing, decreeing freedom for your brothers and sisters—and you made it official in a solemn covenant in my Temple. And then you turned right around and broke your word, making a mockery of both me and the covenant, and made them all slaves again, these men and women you’d just set free. You forced them back into slavery.”

Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 MSG “When you tell God you’ll do something, do it—now.
God takes no pleasure in foolish gabble. Vow it, then do it. Far better not to vow in the first place than to vow and not pay up.” Same verses CEV “God doesn’t like fools. So don’t be slow to keep your promises to God. It’s better not to make a promise at all than to make one and not keep it.

  32. Then Jeremiah turned to the Recabites and said, “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed your ancestor Jehonadab in every respect, following all his instructions.’ Therefore, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Jehonadab son of Recab will always have descendants who serve me.’”

  33. The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,

2 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:

3 And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.

4 Yet hear the word of the Lord, O Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the Lord of thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword:

5 But thou shalt die in peace: and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours for thee; and they will lament thee, saying, Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the Lord.

6 Then Jeremiah the prophet spake all these words unto Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,

7 When the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah: for these defenced cities remained of the cities of Judah.

Zedekiah is told that the city shall be taken, and that he shall die a captive, but he shall die a natural death. It is better to live and die penitent in a prison, than to live and die impenitent in a palace.
