Jeremiah 36

And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the Lord:

Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord in the ears of the people in the Lord‘s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

It may be they will present their supplication before the Lord, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the Lord hath pronounced against this people.

And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the Lordin the Lord‘s house.

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.

10 Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the Lord‘s house, in the ears of all the people.

11 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the Lord,

12 Then he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

13 Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.

20 And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.

21 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.

22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.

26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the Lord hid them.

27 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the Lord; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?

30 Therefore thus saith the Lord of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.

32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

  1. God delivered aword to Jerimiah, and Baruch wrote it on the scroll. God was giving the people a chance to repentance. The plan was to read all the threats off the scroll that the Lord had given to Jerimiah but the first time they wrote it all down it didn’t even get as far as the king before it was destroyed.

But wait a second it don’t end there. The Lord then tells them to rewrite the entire scroll but this time there’s more.

What I feel like the Lord is trying to tell us this morning is how important it is to receive the word he has prepared for us. It shouldn’t take no more than one time. Remember what momma and dad said when you were kids “I shouldn’t have to tell you more than once” “GO CLEAN YOUR ROOM!”

I believe the Lord is telling us to clean our room today folks we need to get the word out there and let the people of this region know what’s coming. We need to SPEAK up when we’re hearing that FALSE doctrine preached. We need to let the enemy know we’re on HOMEturf. This is our county, our city, our region! We need to get out there like Jerimiah and Beruch and get that word out so the city of Fort Worth can have a chance of Repentance.

iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

  2. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. It may be they will present their supplication before the Lord , and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the Lord hath pronounced against this people.
    Jeremiah 36:3‭, ‬7 KJV

And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.
    Jeremiah 36:31 KJV

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
    2 Peter 3:9 KJV

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
    John 5:24 KJV

The purpose for His Word is that men should come to repentance. All men must hear His Word, so that no man will have an excuse when they stand before God in judgment. God sent His Word to this evil king even though He knew it would not be received.

We should never feel like we’ve missed the will of God when someone refuses to hear His Words from our mouths. Don’t be discouraged when the door is slammed in your face, when people argue or ridicule. You are sent to some men for their salvation and to others for their condensation. The going is up to you; the outcome is always in the heart of the hearer. Some will try to plead at the throne of judgment that they didn’t know. Then God will remind them of the day that He sent His Word to them (the day you knocked on their door, witnessed to them at work, gave them a tract, or invited them to church) and they refused to hear. All men will have to acknowledge that they are without excuse.

  3. 3 Perhaps the people of Judah will repent when they hear again all the terrible things I have planned for them. Then I will be able to forgive their sins and wrongdoings.” (NLT)

Not only is He a God of second chances, but of many chances. He wants to see us all saved, all His people. Let Him use you to reach someone, it may take a few tries, may take quit a bit of work and effort, but their salvation and the reward of Heaven is so worth it!

  4. Perhaps the people of Judah will repent when they hear again all the terrible things I have planned for them. Then I will be able to forgive their sins and wrongdoings.” So Jeremiah sent for Baruch son of Neriah, and as Jeremiah dictated all the prophecies that the Lord had given him, Baruch wrote them on a scroll. Perhaps even yet they will turn from their evil ways and ask the Lord ’s forgiveness before it is too late. For the Lord has threatened them with his terrible anger.” I will punish him and his family and his attendants for their sins. I will pour out on them and on all the people of Jerusalem and Judah all the disasters I promised, for they would not listen to my warnings.’”
    Jeremiah 36:3‭-‬4‭, ‬7‭, ‬31 NLT
    A warning of repentance
This was a warning to repent but because the refused the warning but instead destroyed the scroll GOD destroyed
GOD always give warning before he act

  5. The word of the Lord stands forever. It doesn’t matter if you destroy the scroll that it was written on, or the leather that holds it together, God’s word still stands. Be hiding His word, or cutting up his word does not negate the Word. We may try to run from it but if God spoke it, it will come to pass.

If we don’t heed what His word says, He will bring it to us in another manner, but regardless of whether we heed or not, His word is forever settled in Heaven and as He said it, so shall it be.

  6. THY KINGDOM COME
    YOU CANNOT HIDE

The KING of Kings has order in HIS Kingdom. Whatever HE speaks, that is what will come to pass. Position nor passion will exempt us from the words of the KING. Just as Jehoiakim, we can physically destroy the word of the KING, but we cannot eternally destroy the WORD of the KING.

Just because we do not like or agree with the WORD of GOD does not give us the right to omit or ignore the WORD of GOD. The WORD of GOD is eternally settled along with whatever specific or however personal HE desires to add to it.

Our first response to the WORD of GOD should be of REPENTANCE not stubbornness, REGRET not arrogance, HUMILITY not pride. The Kingdom of GOD is all seeing and all knowing and all surrounding, therefore when HIS Kingdom comes we cannot escape HIS WORD.

  9. Jeremiah 36:1-3
    1) AND it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
    2) Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto them, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
    3) It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

Old or New Testament – “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Tim. 3:16)
God’s Word is there to teach us, rebuke us, correct us, and instruct us. The question is “Will we Hear It and let it do the work in our lives God wants it to, or will we be like king Jehoiakim and cut it and burn it up and act like nothing ever happened?”

  10. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
The Lord Jesus Christ is rich in mercy and long-suffering to us, not willing that any should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance! Thank you Jesus for your tender mercies, amazing Grace and beautiful forgiveness.

  11. iLove the Kingdom
It all rises and falls on Leadership
6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord in the ears of the people in the Lord‘s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

This tells me that the people of the city were religious. How do I know; context clues. Check it out. The people were at church. The Jeremiah tells Baruch to “Go to the temple”. That my friend is church. But they weren’t only going to church, but they were fasting too because Baruch went on the fasting day. So, the man of God preached in the house of God on the fasting day. The issue comes when the Leadership heard the Words of the preacher. When the king heard the Word he sent it up in smoke…refused to hear it. Because of the wicked heart of this king, the whole city would eventually go up in smoke. It all rises and falls on leadership. Let’s thank God that we have great leadership at POFW!

  12. 16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

The princes were afraid at the Lord’s word and must have known the king would seek the prophets life for it. They were wise to hide Jeremiah & Baruch. It’s the leadership of a nation that can decide it’s fate with God. A godly king can decree a return to Biblical principles while a worldly king lets the godly suffer. Pray for our nation and it’s leaders that this country return to God. We must still be a witness to others and give them an answer for our hope in him. Be apt to teach on the level of the person you are speaking to. Don’t condescend or be arrogant. Teach them in a way that causes them to hunger for more of his word.

  13. 3 Perhaps the people of Judah will repent when they hear again all the terrible things I have planned for them. Then I will be able to forgive their sins and wrongdoings.” (NLT)

In Gods wrath he still remembers mercy. Thats a beautiful thing about the Lord. He constantly gives opportunity for forgiveness even when we dont deserve it. God is looking for people to love not judge and as David said over and over again “His mercy endures forever.”

  14. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. J. SOLIZ

  15. 4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the Lord:

6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord in the ears of the people in the Lord‘s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

  16. 16 Now it came to pass when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, we will surely tell the king of all these words. 17 And they asked Baruch, saying, tell us now, how didn’t thou write all these words at his mouth? 18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book, 19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, go hide thee, thou and Jeremiah, and let no man know where ye be. The officials were understandably concerned about their safety.

  17. 3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

    A God of Second chances.

Wow. As we continue to read in Jeremiah, we see how God continues to allow Judah to turn from their evil ways. The sad thing is, is that they don’t. So God then allows judgement to come upon them.
So why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? This is the question everyone wants answered right? In Judah I’m sure there were many ” good people,” yet it was their sin and their neglect to turn away from it that caused God to turn and allow those things to happen.

God wants us to be blessed and to bless us, yet it is us that stops those things from happening. We are the reason why bad things happen to us, because we take matters into our own hands. WE stop following God and his precepts, His Word, and His Voice. Nations must turn again to living God. Our Nation Must turn again to the Living God.

For His Kingdom to come in our lives. we must turn away from our evil ways and Look to God.

  18. 17“But first, tell us how you got these messages. Did they come directly from Jeremiah?”

How does one get the message or the Word of God? Normally it’s by attending church. Each one of us can give the Word to who we meet. We can give our testimony to that new visitor at church. Even if it’s a short Word, we can make a difference in someone’s life. Be prepared at all times to give the Lord’s message.

  19. Baruch son of Neriah did everything Jeremiah the prophet told him to do. he did not hesitate, he did not do it when he thought it best; but, he did everything the way he was told to do it. How many times have we done exactly as we were told to do something or asked to do something for the kingdom??? Did we wait and do it when it was convenient for us? Did we do it the way we thought best instead?

Proverbs 8:32-36 MSG “So, my dear friends, listen carefully; those who embrace these my ways are most blessed. Mark a life of discipline and live wisely; don’t squander your precious life. Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me, awake and ready for me each morning, alert and responsive as I start my day’s work. When you find me, you find life, real life, to say nothing of God’s good pleasure. But if you wrong me, you damage your very soul; when you reject me, you’re flirting with death.”

Deuteronomy 30:10 MSG “But only if you listen obediently to God, your God, and keep the commandments and regulations written in this Book of Revelation. Nothing halfhearted here; you must return to God, your God, totally, heart and soul, holding nothing back.”

Proverbs 19:20-21 MSG “Take good counsel and accept correction—that’s the way to live wisely and well. We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God’s purpose prevails.”

  20. Perhaps even yet they will turn from their evil ways and ask the Lord ’s forgiveness before it is too late. For the Lord has threatened them with his terrible anger.”(Jeremiah 36:7 NLT)

God gave the people of Judah a chance to turn away from there evil ways and to ask forgiveness before its too late to change there lives. Gods anger brings wrath upon those that are persistent in wickedness. God is slow to anger and quick to forgive.

  21. 3 Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about every disaster I plan to inflict on them, they will each turn from their wicked ways; then I will forgive their wickedness and their sin.”

Thank you Lord for giving second chances! You see how we lose our direction to you, yet again you give your grace and mercy to lead us back! What an awesome God we serve!

  22. 23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

We need to receive every word of the lord for he is good and righteous and he is the creator of all! No matter what we want it is still the word of the lord. Lord I pray for a mind like yours I pray lord you would take my mind and all of me and commit me to you. Lord I am sold out for you! In Jesus name, I rebuke every spirit that attacks me for I am a child of God who will prevail in victory mighty are you Jesus!

  23. 1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

7 It may be they will present their supplication before the Lord, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the Lord hath pronounced against this people.

8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the Lordin the Lord‘s house.

The writing of the Scriptures was by Divine appointment. The Divine wisdom directed to this as a proper means; if it failed, the house of Judah would be the more without excuse. The Lord declares to sinners the evil he purposes to do against them, that they may hear, and fear, and return from their evil ways; and whenever any one makes this use of God’s warnings, in dependence on his promised mercy, he will find the Lord ready to forgive his sins. All others will be left without excuse; and the consideration that great is the anger God has pronounced against us for sin, should quicken both our prayers and our endeavours.

  24. 2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

The Word should bring conviction to our hearts when we read it hear it. Many however choose to burn it in the fire saying it’s not for me. Do not harden your heart and allow God to speak whatever message he has. All he wants is that men turn back from their evil ways and have a relationship with Him.

  25. Joseph: You’ll be disciplined for what you’ve done. You can’t go against Gods Word.

Melanie: You can try to run from the Word of God by removing it from your life, but His Word is eternal. It is settled in heaven. His Word does not return to Him void.

  26. 5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the Lord:
6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord in the ears of the people in the Lord‘s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

This is why it’s important to train others and the things that God is called us to do as well for where some can go others cannot. There are some people that can not be reached, no matter what we do, but we are connected to the individuals that can reach those people and if we can deliver the word unto them we can indirectly reach the others that we otherwise would not have been able to reach. That’s why we are the body of Christ edifying and sharpening one another doing one job in hole. It is the importance and having a United mind

  27. When God says something it doesn’t matter if you want it to go away, it doesn’t. I have heard of people doing a similar thing with the Bible. They will read something they don’t like and take it out. It’s not ours to take out. If we don’t like something, it’s time to look at ourselves and change. God doesn’t change his word because we don’t like it. We change because He is eturnal. God allows time for us to change, but if we don’t heed His warnings or if we blatantly throw them out we suffer facing His judgement. His judgement is just. You can’t just pretend and get a lesser sentence. What God says is final.

  28. Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about every disaster I plan to inflict on them, they will each turn from their wicked ways; then I will forgive their wickedness and their sin.”

Our job is to preach the gospel and pray that the people will turn to God!! People don’t always want to hear the truth or believe it but yet Noah preached and preached till the end. I’m sure everyone thought he was crazy but when God says something it means it’s going to happen. Jesus help us to keep preaching your truth even if people think we’re crszy but I know it’s all real and your real!!! Thank You Lord!!!

  29. 22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

The king’ s winter home is a warm palace room that faces the winter sun. Since December in Israel can be cold and rainy, even with some light snowfall, Jekoiakim snuggles up to his charcoal burning firepot, a portable brazier or metal pot that can be carried wherever he goes. He sits by his fire while one of his men reads Jeremiah scroll to him. With contempt for the truth of God’s Word, he burns the entire scroll in the firepot, then heaps one offense on another and orders the arrest of Jeremiah and his helper/secretary
