Lamentations 4

How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:

Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.

10 The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

11 The Lord hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

13 For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,

14 They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.

15 They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.

16 The anger of the Lord hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.

17 As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

18 They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.

19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

  1. After all of the warnings and disobedience, we now read about the judgment of God. The Lord warned them; but, we now see how sin can and will tarnish the purest of hearts, if we allow disobedience and sin to come in. You cannot hide anything from God, as we see in verse 22 “O beautiful Jerusalem,[e] your punishment will end; you will soon return from exile. But Edom, your punishment is just beginning; soon your many sins will be exposed.” JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

  3. 4:6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
——— Just like that!!! God is sovereign and He speaks, He loves his people and he is just, but also let us not misjudge his judgments.
Anything can happened with the blink of an eye.

  4. 12. Not a king in all the earth – no one in all the world- would have believed that an enemy could march through the gates of Jerusalem. NLT

America today is listed as one of the great “super-powers” among the nations, but anyone who turns their back on God can, in His time, expect Him to turn His back on them.
Lord, help us to learn from their mistakes and not go through what they did before they would turn back to You.

  5. The people who once ate the riches foods now beg in the streets for
anything they can get . Those who once wore the finest clothes
now search the garbage dumps for food.
    Lamentations 4:5 NLT

The spiritual condition of an individual without God’s covering.

  6. 1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

Do you know what’s Gold to me… the word of God. The Bible I own is pretty cool, when it’s closed and you look at the pages they’re Gold. But when you open it the pages are as white as snow. It’s a KJV study Bible, I love it in fact I haven’t even marked it up like my old Bible. How could I mark up this Gold….

Today we live in a world that has taken the Gold and completely twisted it making it dim! We live in a world that has manipulated and perverted scripture into something it’s not. We live in a world spreading false doctrines and lying to God hungry people,“how is the most fine Gold changed”. How can we Christians stand and not do anything about it.
Yesterday I was privileged enough to minister to a young man for about an hour talking about miracles, signs, and wonders, and as I watched his eyes widen with excitement it drove me just a little further to tell him more.
See I wanna be apart of this movement that redirects this young crowd, that helps them see the light in this black, dark society we live in.
I wanna see people’s eyes open like Paul’s did on the road to Damascus.

“And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been SCALES: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.”
    Acts 9:18

Find yourself a hungry lost one today and spoon feed them that GOLD! Let their eyes be open like Paul’s.

  7. But now the anger of the Lord is satisfied. His fierce anger has been poured out. He started a fire in Jerusalem that burned the city to its foundations. Yet it happened because of the sins of her prophets and the sins of her priests, who defiled the city by shedding innocent blood.
    Lamentations 4:11‭, ‬13 NLT
We read about GOD warning we about their Disobedience and sin GOD warn them many times but they refuse to obey they continue with there sinful acts now we see GOD poured out his angery we see what disobedience get you we also see that GOD does what he said he’ll do

  8. 5 For those who wants a delicacies are destitute in the streets. Those nurtured in purple now lie in ash heaps.

12 The kings of the earth did not believe, nor did any of the worlds people, that the enemy and foes could enter the gates of Jerusalem.
13 But it happened because of the sins of her profits and the iniquities of her priest, who shed within her the blood of the righteous.

  9. 17 As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

They’re eyes looks to vain help, to people who could not save them (granted the Lord was going to have His way regardless). But in times of distress, carefully consider who you turn to. The first should always be God! And if someone looks to you, prayerfully lead them and encourage them to look to God.

  10. 18. They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.

    Los Pentecostals
they know that we’re coming but we are not afraid to come out . So we know our time is near and our days are counted and this is the end Let’s go.

  11. 3 Even jackals offer their breasts to nurse their young, but my people have become heartless like ostriches in the desert. 4 Because of thirst the infant’s tongue sticks to the roof of its mouth; the children beg for bread, but no one gives it to them.(NIV)

Lord help me not be an ostrich as a mother or spiritual mother!! So many people have died spiritually because of the lack of attention to the spiritual babies. Having 2 babies in the physical I know that when they were born they depended completely on me. I had to feed them, clean them, bathe them, protect them, pray for them, burp them, take care of them when they got sick, clean up after them ALL THE TIME!!! As they’ve grown they can eat on their own but their still dependent on me to give them the food, they can change on their own but I still wash their clothes….this is just in the spiritual!! Only a bad mother would leave their NB to defend for themselves. I am so thankful to be part of a church that has showed me how to care for the spiritual babies! We have to war for these babies because the devil wants them but I want them MORE for the Kingdom of God!!! Devil you can’t take my babies!!! I will fight for those babies!! Jesus give me the knowledge and wisdom to guide these babies to you!!!

  12. How do I treat others? As I read how these people treated each other, I thought and asked myself,” do I do this to others?” I don’t think I do, not in a physical sense. Yet How do I treat those with a hurting heart? How do I treat others when I know they are lost? Do I think I’m better than those who are lost? These are questions that I asked myself. If we truly want what we say in ,” Let His Kingdom Come to this earth,” then we will be open to God’s direction in our lives. To be used at the supermarket, at our schools, at our Jobs, and other places as well.
Who am I? Now- I am a child of the Most High, Before- I was a lowly sinner, lost and in a dying state.
Where am I? Now- I am heading in the right direction towards Heaven, Before- I was headed strait to the gates of Hell.
How did I get here. As we read yesterday it is through God’s Mercy that is renewed every day.

God’s anger is not to be messed with. We all have seen God’s judgement upon us or others and it’s nothing to play with. We must make sure as preachers, teachers and leaders that we speak what the word of the Lord says and are obedience to His words. Otherwise we may become a casualty of God’s judgment.

  14. THY KINGDOM COME
    FADING GLORY

1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

The WORD and SPIRIT of our KING JESUS is bright, rich and glorious.

When we seek the LORD JESUS with all of our heart we are Blessed to enjoy the Glory of HIS Kingdom shining on us, making us to appear better than we are. However, somehow, the gold or Glory had become dim and changed.

But if we continue to walk with JESUS we will remain in the Light of HIS Glory in the midst of HIS Kingdom. As we seek FIRST The Kingdom of GOD, we will find and maintain the power of HIS glory in our lives.

  15. The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

How did they get into the gates. The Kings believed they could not get in. Somewhere in the middle of their reign weakness crept in. Self reliance weakened the gates. We must continue in the faith even in our weakest moments. We must stay in the midst of the presence of God those who are strong in the faith . The gates cannot become weakened by the adversary. The voices of the world the enticing ways of the world. One link weakened can let the adversary in and we too may say how did they get in. We must clothe ourself daily with the armour of God. Covering our thoughts in Hus presence in the Word and prayer. Yes the battle rages but we can be victorious we are warriors and the adversary will be defeated in Jesus Name.

  16. AMP – 22 The punishment of your sin has been completed, O Daughter of Zion; The Lord will no longer send you into exile.
But He will punish your sin, O Daughter of Edom; He will expose your sins.

Many people say that God will not judge and send people to hell because He is a loving God. Yet He is a God that has given us a plan, principles to live by and He expects us to follow that plan. It’s our choice, but we must know that if we choose not to follow His plan, than He will have no other option but to execute judgement upon us that could cause us to spend eternity in hell. Don’t underestimate His word, it cannot lie and will not return void back to Him. It’s up to us to make the correct choices thereby allowing God’s wrath to pass over us and us be given the privilege to live forever.

  17. 1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

The word and spirit of God is gold, it’s light, it’ll make you rich with knowledge. But in these last days, when it is so important that His word and kingdom are established in this world, it has become twisted, it has become dim. The Bible is left on the shelf or used as a decoration on the coffee table, but it is not being opened. The world is filled with CEO’s (Christmas and Easter only) and they are never fully established in His Kingdom. But God has sent us to be the light where it is dim and to spread His word, but the only way to do that is if we too are in His word!

  18. 12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.
13 For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,

We see the children and innocent people severely punished for the sins of the prophets and priests that led the people away from their true God. It makes me think of the trust people today have in their spiritual leaders and they refuse to hear the word of the Lord. They would rather trust in a man or woman than search the scriptures for their own salvation. I pray God saturates this region with a hunger and thirst for his righteousness so people will be filled, that he draw souls to him and that POFW is ready to teach. It’s time for harvest not destruction.

  19. Lamentations 4:21-22
    21) Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.
    22) The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will nor more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

It’s never a good thing to rejoice or be glad when calamities fall on others/our enemies, because the anger of God may pass on us, and we will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 17:5 says, “… and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
Proverbs 24:17-18 says, 17) Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: 18) Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

  20. iLove the Kingdom
“Be the Care Team Who Cares”
Even the animals and wild beasts (sea monsters) of the earth take care of their young, but God’s people do not take care of His young. His children go hungry and desolate and do not receive the care they need to overcome the enemy.

Wow, what the church world needs is a “Care Team” who cares. Do we love the Lord…well we should “feed his sheep”. We shouldn’t feel annoyed when the pastor (or his helper) asks how our new babes in Christ are doing, but we should be able to say, “I fed them this week pastor! :)”

  21. Each one of us has a particular level at which our emotions overflow and we cry out, “God help me!” Sometimes, we don’t know if we’re angry, panicked, scared…we do know that we can’t continue on our own strength. In the grand scheme of things, a stressful morning doesn’t impact life or eternity all that much, but in those longer seasons of joblessness, sickness, financial stress, marriage strain and other ongoing life events, the stress and frustration can seem overwhelming.

We can’t always control what happens to us, but we can always control how we choose to respond. In those moments when I choose to stop complaining and instead give thanks to God for the good in my life, the parts that seem bad start to seem much less significant. We must choose to keep a positive attitude and thankful heart regardless of what we’re going through. Every difficulty in our life, whether big or small, is something God will use to produce more strength, faith and perseverance in us if you let Him! All our pain has a purpose.

  22. For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
    Lamentations 4:6 KJV

This verse shows how different our thoughts and judgments are from God’s. We are quick to judge and disdain the sins of Sodom, repulsed by their lewdness, lasciviousness, and their homosexual desire to rape visiting men in the streets. Yet, God found their godless sins more deserving of mercy than the half-hearted, double-tongued worship of a backslidden people. Second Peter puts it this way, “For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them,” (2:21).

Both Sodom and Israel deserved the judgment of God, and both judgments were thorough. However, Sodom’s judgment was nearly instantaneous, while Israel’s judgement was one of prolonged and ever-increasing suffering. To whom much is given, much is required; and with great knowledge, comes great responsibility. We should learn from Israel’s judgment and beware that our own faith be genuine.

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
    Hebrews 10:26‭-‬29 KJV

    Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
    Hebrews 2:1‭-‬3 KJV

  23. Lamentations 4:2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

  24. 11 The Lord hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

  25. 22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

  26. How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.
2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
What a picture of backslidden Israel! What once was beautiful, valuable and precious is now dim, without beauty, value or usefulness. We are His treasure but to walk away from Him would leave us as ordinary vessels. Lord let us be vessels unto honor that you delight to use!

  27. 22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion, he will no more carry thee away into captivity, He will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom , he will discover thy sins.

  28. This statement of the prophet is profound in it’s implications: ‘For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.’ It brings to memory the parable of the empty house and the seven spirits that came to abode within. God may not be a respector of persons, but the devil certainty is… the more you’ve give yourself to God, the more he desires to take you down. Should he succeed, the punishment will seem far worse than if you’d never known the Lord.

How terrible would it be to find yourself condemned to eternal separation from God and know that you had the truth right in your hands and let it go. That judgment is not one to wish on anyone, but it’s the desire of our enemy to bring it to pass. Much of life is about perspective… and we can choose that perspective. Is the perspective of our thoughts seen through a eyes of a loving God, our or is it distorted by our own carnal desires?

Coming to God doesn’t relinquish desire… you have to make a decision to refocus your desires on the things of God. It is important because your desires will shape your perspective. You cannot effectively seek to please the kingdom of God while your desires are looking elsewhere. They will continue to distract and even frustrate your walk. Eventually you’ll wake up in an ’empty’ house and wonder why you’re struggling so hard just to survive… all because of misplaced desire.

When we truly enjoy what we’re doing in the kingdom, it is something we look forward to. We’re not ‘missing out’ because we’re doing what we want to be doing. Therein lies the path of true success: shaping the desires of your heart until they are indistinguishable from his will for your life…. and enjoying it!

  29. How do we live daily that is unpleasing to God? What do we try to hide from Him that’s so easily hidden from others? Renew our hearts and cleanse us. We don’t want our sins to be known to others nor do we want to see their sins. I need to keep my temple wholly Holy for Him.

  30. With their own hands compassionate women have cooked their own children, who became their food when my people were destroyed.
    Lamentations 4:10 NIV
    https://bible.com/bible/111/lam.4.10.NIV

Sometimes when we get together if we are not careful we may speak thing we are not supposed to or speak about others. We can spiritually be eating our own spiritual children if we are not careful. We must always speak about His truth and not any other things.

  31. Lamentations 4:2 (English Amp) is saying The noble and precious sons of Zion, ( once) worth their weight in fine gold- how they are esteemed ( merely) as earthen pots or pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter! Jeremiah 19:11 And say to them , Thus said the Lord of hosts: Even so will I break a potter’s vessel, so that it cannot be mended. Men will bury in Topheth because there will be no other place for burial and in till there is no more room to bury.

  32. 7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:

God compares the sons of Zion to gold and Nazerites to be purer than snow and milk, and precious stones. He is the Creator of all things and they are intended to give God glory and honor him. They were as precious treasures to God when they walked in his righteous holiness. When they began to change their ways they became wretched to him, terrible parents to the children he blessed them with. They starved physically and spiritually as they walked further away from God. Beauty is wonderful when it is holy and pleases God with righteous splendor, however when we begin to look at ourselves as Lucifer the cherub once did and try to magnify ourselves we violate his holiness and subject ourselves to his wrath as he was zapped to earth like a flash of lightning. It takes recognizing the Creator for his goodness and praising him for it.

  33. 21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.
22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

The Lord chastises whom he loves. But it’s not ever forget that punishment is not just a sign of God’s anger and Wrath when it is directed towards his children but it is a sign that he loves his children enough to discipline them.

  34. Unbelievable

2 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

13 For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,

There are many parents out there that live in denial about there chikdren. No one wants to believe that it could be their child on drugs or some other grave sin. The first thing that we all go through when someone does is denial. It can’t be true. This isn’t thappening to me. The same is going to happen in the end. Some people that you are for sure are going to heaven won’t be there. It will be unbelievable. Just like no one could believe Jerusalem had fallen into sin, it will be hard to understand what happened to our friends and family, why they didn’t make it.

  35. 1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

Gold gets dirty; it’s a fact of life. Although it doesn’t tarnish, it can lose its shine due to any number of things. It is important to polish or clean Gold.

It’s is important that we maintain our relationship with God through life’s trials. God sent us into the highways and hedges to draw lives into His Kingdom but we must learn to serve Mr be served at times. There is a time to serve Mr a time to be served. When we give out we must take a moment to sit at the masters table and allow the Word to polish us and renew us so that we can go out and work again.

  36. We looked in vain for our allies to come and save us, but we were looking to nations that could not help us.(Lamentations 4:17 NLT)

Sometimes it looks like certain people can help us in times of trouble because they look strong or financially well off. However, the protection we need comes from the Lord he is our way maker. When we look in vain of what is on the outward appearance we miss what they are truly about. Vanity is deceitful and fleeting. You can’t judge a book by its cover, instead measure a person or people by their relationship with God and their fruit. You will know because where their is much prayer, their is much power, where their is an abundance of fruit of the Spirit their is deep roots in His Kingdom.

  37. 20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

  38. The parched tongues of their little ones stick to the roofs of their mouths in thirst. The children cry for bread, but no one has any to give them.
    Lamentations 4:4 NLT
This world does not have the sustenance that our children need to survive. God has blessed us by calling us into His marvelous light, illuminating us with His Word so that we may go and fulfill His commands. Feed my sheep, if you love me, He says… These children are starving, they’re dying everyday if we do not go out and bring the Word of God to them. We have been called to go into the mission field and compel the people so that His house may be filled.

  39. O beautiful Jerusalem, your punishment will end; you will soon return from exile. But Edom, your punishment is just beginning; soon your many sins will be exposed.
    Lamentations 4:22 NLT

No matter who you are; you could be the least of persons of importance or the most famous the price for sin is still the same. Repnteance is the way obedience is the pace.

  40. “Even wild jackals nurture their babies, give them their breasts to suckle. But my people have turned cruel to their babies, like an ostrich in the wilderness. Babies have nothing to drink. Their tongues stick to the roofs of their mouths. Little children ask for bread but no one gives them so much as a crust.”
    ‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭4:3-4‬ ‭MSG‬‬

We need to be careful how we take care of babies. They are small and depend on those bigger than them for nurishment, protections, and love. If it is not given then they could die. —Protect your babies!

    Pray

  41. “How the gold has lost its luster! Even the finest gold has become dull. The sacred gemstones lie scattered in the streets! See how the precious children of Jerusalem, worth their weight in fine gold, are now treated like pots of clay made by a common potter. Even the jackals feed their young, but not my people Israel. They ignore their children’s cries, like ostriches in the desert.”
    ‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭4:1-3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Know your value in the Kingdom! Do go back you common ground and lose your place in the Kingdom. We are a royal priesthood.

“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.” Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.”
    ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:9-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  42. 1How the gold has lost its luster!bEven the finest gold has become dull.

Imagine that gold, silver or any mineral can lose its luster. We too can lose our luster for God. For at one time many were on fire for God, but have allowed the enemy to slowly reenter their lives. Others can tell if you have that fire for God, or if you no longer shine like light with God in you. Don’t allow the enemy to steal your luster for God.

  43. 1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

3 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

5 They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:

8 Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

9 They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.

What a change is here! Sin tarnishes the beauty of the most exalted powers and the most excellent gifts; but that gold, tried in the fire, which Christ bestows, never will be taken from us; its outward appearance may be dimmed, but its real value can never be changed. The horrors of the siege and destruction of Jerusalem are again described. Beholding the sad consequences of sin in the church of old, let us seriously consider to what the same causes may justly bring down the church now. But, Lord, though we have gone from thee in rebellion, yet turn to us, and turn our hearts to thee, that we may fear thy name. Come to us, bless us with awakening, converting, renewing, confirming grace.
