Lamentations 5

Remember, O Lord, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.

Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.

We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.

We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us.

Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.

We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.

Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.

Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.

We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.

10 Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.

11 They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.

12 Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.

13 They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.

14 The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.

15 The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.

16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!

17 For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.

18 Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.

19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.

20 Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?

21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

22 But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.

  1. In this scripture, it is apparent the desperation faced by these people. You know that sin separates, but Christ Jesus reconciles through his precious blood . Jesus is awesome for what he did for us all. There is no other way but through Jesus Christ to be saved!

    “Be saved”…….

  2. This chapter is a prayer for mercy and restoration. Verse 1 NLT “Lord, remember what has happened to us. See how we have been disgraced!”

Verses 14-17 NLT say “Joy has left our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning. The garlands have[b] fallen from our heads. Weep for us because we have sinned. Our hearts are sick and weary, and our eyes grow dim with tears.” The evidence of sin and the result it causes as you lose your joy.

The Lord never changes, as verse 19 NLT says “But Lord, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation.” We are a blessed people to know who we can call upon and pray too; but, so many in this world/city still don’t know. We have to keep moving/propelling forward and show them who they can call upon to restore them. Verse 21 NLT “Restore us, O Lord, and bring us back to you again! Give us back the joys we once had!”

  3. “…And yet, God, you’re sovereign still, your throne intact and eternal…”MSG

No matter how bad our situation gets, we must remember that God is still God, and always will be.

  4. Sin is a luxury none of us can afford!

Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens. We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows. Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest. Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities. The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning. The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
    Lamentations 5:2‭-‬3‭, ‬5‭, ‬7‭-‬7‭, ‬15‭-‬16 KJV

Repentance is a necessity none of us can do without!

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
    Romans 2:4‭-‬10 KJV

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner… For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
    2 Corinthians 7:9‭-‬10 KJV

  5. 15 Joy is gone from our hearts, our dancing has turned to mourning.

21 Restore us to yourself, Oh Lord, that we may return, renew our days as of old 22 unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.

  6. 21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

One of the things that I find interesting about this, is there desire for God to restore them, but not for the reason because they desire HIM but because they miss being blessed.

There are seeking God’s hand, his provisions, his blessings, his benefits, and they do not seek His face, intimacy, relationship, covenant.

If our desire for restoration was to have more of Him and not just get our stuff back, what would be of us? I’ve pondered before if God is thinking that he loves to hear my voice in prayer calling out to Him, but sad because it’s only when I need a quick fix for something.

  7. The garlands have fallen from our heads. Weep for us because we have sinned. But Lord , you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation.
    Lamentations 5:16‭, ‬19 NLT

This chapter is about a cry out for mercy in the storm no matter the situation we can’t even forget GOD he love us he just wants the best for us

  8. But Lord, you remain the same forever! You throne continues
from generation to generation. Lamentations 5:19 NLT

Despite all the calamities the people of Israel recognize that God still in his throne. I heard someone say , ” God without me
he’s still God me without God I ain’t nothing.

  9. 21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

The people of God are looking to be turned from their sin, from there iniquity and their unrighteousness. The first step to changing is recognizing that you have a problem and making the choice to correct it. They desired to have the relationship they used to have, to be what they used to be in God. They have drifted away spiritually but they desire to be restored unto God.

  10. 5 Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.

    noun: persecution; plural noun: persecutions
hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs

Have you been persecuted for what you believe? For going out with your long sleeves and pants on in the middle of the hot summer, or for your long hair and skirts/dresses?
Everyday we labour for the Lost, we’re trying to reach another loved one that is need of a miracle in their life from God alone. The enemy will try to have ya persecuted to hinder us from working for Gods Kingdom. Everything you do for the kingdom of God is just eating the adversary alive.

This scripture above lamentations 5:5 might not even be talking about what I am but it’s a good one to use to get the point across that God favors you for what you’re doing for HIS KINGDOM. The scripture says “we labour, and have no REST”
I know that looks like we got the rough end of the stick but no think again because in the end we’re victorious I know because I’ve already seen it in the back of the book.
Today I pray we continue to have this drive for the lost and to labor, I pray we don’t worry about rest until it’s all over. There’s no breaks when it comes to ministry. Better yet you could say it like this “There’s no BRAKES when it comes to ministry”
Let’s Go do something for his Kingdom
iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

  11. 19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.

No matter if we live for him or not He is still the Iing of Kings and Lord of Lords! He doesn’t need my worship to be King but I worship Him because He is the King! I recognize that not even a leaf can move without His command. The devil can’t even do anything without Gods permission. Thank You Lord for saving me and the generations to come because of my decision to break the spirit of idolatry over my life. 🙌🏽

  12. 19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.

God has his own sense of timing: ‘With the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day’ 2 Peter 3:8 AMP. He has perfect timing: never early, never late. God is never in a hurry, but he is always on time. When our prayers don’t seem to be answered, we may be tempted to stop trusting the Lord. Pride comes before a fall – as I have discovered many times in my life. Everything we have comes from God. We are dependent upon him for our next breath. He is in control of the past, present and future.

  13. Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?

21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

22 But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.

    Advertisements
But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
    Luke 12:31 KJV

God wants a relationship of love and not off convenience.

  14. 15 The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
17 For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.

The cry for God to turn to them again is the cry of anguish of body and soul. The writer is desperate for God to forgive them and restore them. God looks on the heart and knows the thought and intent of our hearts. He knows when we have truly repented and knows when to revive and restore. We can’t fake it with Him. If we seek him we can find him, no matter how bad the situation is.

20 Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?
21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
22 But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.

  15. iLove the Kingdom
Lam 5:5 (NLT) Those who pursue us are at our heels; we are exhausted but are given no rest.
Lam 5:6 We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough food to survive.

Wow, what a sad story here. Look at the context of verse #6. “We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough food to survive”… wow, this lets us know when we refuse to submit to God, Egypt is right around the corner… I prefer to submit to God and leave Egypt alone.

  16. “But Lord, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation.”
    ‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭5:19‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In a world that is continually changing I’m glad to serve a God that stays the same yesterday, today, and forever!

  17. Lamentations 5:15-17 & 21
    15) The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
    16) The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
    17) For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.
    21) Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

    All Because of SIN!
The Joy of our heart is ceased
Our Dance us turned into mourning
    Our Heart is faint
    Our Eyes are dim

What we must do is Confess our Sins, and ask God to Restore us back to Him.

  18. The generations are cursed. They went to Egypt to seek a better life without God. The Lord told them that they would be cursed and all generations would be cursed because they would not listen to His prophecies through Jeremiah. Now all of the generations of the people are cursed and now that they are having trouble surviving they seek God. Let us seek God all the time not just when things are going bad for us.

  19. THY KINGDOM COME
    REPENT

21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

There remains a clear call from eternity to turn our lives back to JESUS. This world and its systems are fading fast. JESUS is our King and to effectively and passionately live in and for The Kingdom of GOD we must foster a daily practice of returning to HIM.

    Return in Prayer
    Return in Outreach
    Return in Faithful
    Return in Worship

it is the Grace of GOD that affords us the privilege of returning to HIMl, especially after we have failed him or disobeyed him.

Lets invite JESUS to turn to us as we invite him through praise and worship, commitment and service. JESUS is attracted to humility and repentance.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo

  20. 16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!

  21. Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities. (‭Lamentations‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ KJV)

When sin keeps and moves you from underneath the hand of the almighty GOD to a place where you are no longer protected, is a terrible place to be! This does not only effect you, but an after effect. It is important to see that life doesn’t come by how we live, or what we have. True living only comes when you come to a merciful GOD that saves you, your children, and generations coming after. I thank The Lord for the day that He called me out of darkness and brought me to the truth on March 16th many years ago!!

  22. Regardless of our personal decisions in life, it’s good to remember that ‘Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.’ God is not dependent upon anything that we do. He allows us the opportunity to participate but the success of his kingdom does not dependent upon our contributions. That seems so contrary to the expectations of our worth from a carnal mindset.

The mindset of the world values it’s individual contribution and expects an appropriate compensation for services… but what can we add to God’s stature and what do we bring to his kingdom that he does not possess himself? We need to recognize that God is so much above anything on this Earth that our mindset needs to be: ‘Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.’ It’s not about us, it’s about him!

It’s not about what we have to offer but what we’re willing to receive and submit ourselves unto. We don’t truly have anything to offer until we have first received and submitted ourselves to him. It’s not about us, it’s about him! It’s not about what we can do, it’s about what he desires to be done! Our focus in the kingdom needs to be upon the king! He is after all the Lord of lords and the King of kings!

  23. 21Restore us, O LORD, and bring us back to you again! Give us back the joys we once had!

Yes the Lord can restore the joy you enjoyed at one time. You had joy and peace when you served and obeyed God. If you don’t have that joy, maybe you aren’t serving the Lord completely. Start serving the Lord and others with love, and watch how your joy and peace comes back.

  24. 14 The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.

The Elders are so important in our lives. They have fought battles that we currently enjoy victories from. We live in houses that they built, we enjoy the spiritual food that they fasted and prayed for long before we were here. It’s important that we don’t cast aside the older generation. Older women are to teach the younger, older men to lead by example. We must not be so concerned about doing things “our way” that we cast off what the Elders fought long and hard for.

  25. [Lam 5:3 KJV] 3 We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers [are] as widows.
Knowing God’s heart for the fatherless, orphans and widows, perhaps the prophet thought this would appeal to God’s mercy.
[Exo 22:22 KJV] 22 Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.
[Deu 10:18 KJV] 18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.
[Deu 24:21 KJV] 21 When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean [it] afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

  26. 19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.

20 Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?

21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

  27. A fight for survival

9 We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.

When I was 15 years old I was too mean to live with my mother and I didn’t want to obey my dads rules so I found myself on my own. I found our really quickly that the bills and food didn’t come as easy as my dad made it look. I remember my first apartment didn’t have any funiture. I slept on the floor, ate on the floor, studied for school on the floor. I didn’t have forks or plates to eat with. I had only that apartment and my life. I was too stubborn to go back to either one so I toughed it out. It was such a struggle just to eat. The wilderness was stingy with its fruits. Rebellion and disobedience always leads to struggle. The fathers house is full of bread and meat. In the fathers house you don’t have to fight for survival, you can live in peace. Dads rules don’t seem so bad when you are hungry.

  28. 19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.

His Kingdom is established with every generation. Every generation must find God and make him ruler over them. No one can ride on the relationship of the generation before. My grandmother had to find God, my mother and father had to find God, I have to find God, my children will have to find God. We are responsible for saying up His Kingdom in our lives. From generation to generation.

  29. 14 The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.

15 The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.

16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!

The first step to repentance is to acknowledge that there is a problem. Here we see the people accepting that they have sinned and are now seeking God’s face. I pray that my heart and our hearts be sensitive enough to conviction from the Holy Spirit and that we be humble enough go come to God in repentance.

  30. 16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
17 For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.
18 Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.
19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation

  31. 19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.
20 Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?
21 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
22 But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us

Bring refreshed and renewed in the holy ghost is essential to our daily walk with Christ, it’s what keeps us going when we are quite out and don’t feel like going, it prevents is from being discouraged and giving up at times. Let’s continue to pray that God will keep us turning to him and renew or days

  32. 19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for
ever; thy throne from generation to generation.

Jesus is the same today, yesterday, and forever!
Thanl you lord for being a never changing God..

  33. The lord has no need to remember what we have said come on! He already KNOWS what is wrong and how he will solve us and get us threw our hard times he is the ultimate counselor and savior!

  34. The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
17 For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.

It is a very sad day when the Lord rejects you because of your continually disobedience and sin. I can’t imagine living with out Joy without a dance, or without God.

  35. 17 For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.

The people of God express deep concern for the ruins of the temple, more than for any other of their calamities. But whatever changes there are on earth, God is still the same, and remains for ever wise and holy, just and good; with Him there is no variableness nor shadow of turning. They earnestly pray to God for mercy and grace; Turn us to thee, O Lord. God never leaves any till they first leave him; if he turns them to him in a way of duty, no doubt he will quickly return to them in a way of mercy. If God by his grace renew our hearts, he will by his favour renew our days. Troubles may cause our hearts to be faint, and our eyes to be dim, but the way to the mercy-seat of our reconciled God is open. Let us, in all our trials, put our whole trust and confidence in his mercy; let us confess our sins, and pour out our hearts before him. Let us watch against repinings and despondency; for we surely know, that it shall be well in the end with all that trust in, fear, love, and serve the Lord. Are not the Lord’s judgments in the earth the same as in Jeremiah’s days? Let Zion then be remembered by us in our prayers, and her welfare be sought above every earthly joy. Spare, Lord, spare thy people, and give not thine heritage to reproach, for the heathen to rule over them.

  36. “For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim, for Mount Zion which lies desolate; jackals prowl over it. But you, O Lord, reign forever; your throne endures to all generations.”
    ‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭5:17-19‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Through it all, God remains. Our situations can become desperate and dire, but he remains God. He never changes. He is still almighty God. He is still sovereign. He is still glorious, powerful, righteous, and mighty. He Always has been these things. He Always will be these things.

  37. 19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.

He never changes, never fails, but is always faithful and holy. Help us Lord to lead the next generations!

  38. But Lord , you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation.(Lamentations 5:19 NLT)

Jesus will always be the ruler forever there’s no one or nothing that can do what he does. He’s the king of the whole earth creator of all things.

  39. 14 The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.

15 The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.

16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!

We can see the downward cast these people have in their toil and struggle with little gain. Before their exile God blessed them with great abundance. They had reaped harvests they did sow and drank from wells they didn’t dig up. The famine has turned things around and what food they do produce they have yo pay for. Imagine someone came and took over your house then proceeded to charge you for the groceries you bought in your frigerator and claimed it as their property. I understand their frustration and unwillingness to praise with gladness, but God wants our devotion to pray, seek and praise him in all things. No matter the storms of life, we praise him because He brings the sunshine. He is the way maker and when we praise him when it’s least convenience it captuires God’s attention and willingness to step into our situations.
