Daniel 5

Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.

Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.

Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.

They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

Then came in all the king’s wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.

Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.

10 Now the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:

11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.

13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?

14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.

15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:

16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.

17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

18 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:

19 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.

20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.

22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

25 And this is the writing that was written, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.

26 This is the interpretation of the thing: Mene; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

27 Tekel; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

28 Peres; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

  1. Verses 22-24 AMP “And you, his [h]son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart (mind), even though you knew all this. And you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven, and the vessels of His house have been brought before you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines have been drinking wine from them; and you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or understand. But the God who holds in His hand your breath of life and your ways you have not honored and glorified [but have dishonored and defied]. Then the hand was sent from the presence [of the Most High God], and this inscription was written:”.

Belshazzar did not humble himself as James 4:10 AMP says “Humble yourselves [with an attitude of repentance and insignificance] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up, He will give you purpose]” and also 1 Peter 5:6 AMP “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time,”.

John 4:24 AMP “God is spirit [the Source of life, yet invisible to mankind], and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

  2. This whole chapter of Daniel 5 speaks about how God wants us to be humble to him, and it speaks about how we have a choice to make . We are presented with a choice in our everyday lives. We can either do what God is calling us to do, or we can do what this world wants us to do, we can do what our flesh desires, but where will that get us? The choices that we make are quiet critical, if we choose to do as we wish, just as “O’Belshazzar” did we will see the rath of God . When we choose to be humble and submissive to our father God he will not leave us, he will not fail us. Our God is a God of promises, he is a justice God, and he will not leave his children. Our God is a merciful God , and he loves us (his children) , and that is why we are given the choice to walk with him. #followGodsplaninyourlife
Our God is a loving God

  3. Daniel 5:17 (English Amp) Then Daniel answered before the , Let your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to another. However, I will read the writing to the King and make known to him the interpretation. Tablets have been which clearly establish not the existence of Belshazzar, But also his association with his father, Nabonidus, second in command, was in charge while Nabonidus was absent from the city. He promised Daniel a post as third ruler in the land.

  4. But when his heart and mind were puffed up with arrogance,
he was brought down from his royal trone and stripped of
    his glory. Daniel 5:20 NLT

Lord Jesus you see our hearts and our minds. Thank you Lord for the man of God that you have placed in my life. In the name of Jesus Amen.

  5. 22. “You are his successor, O Belshazzar, and you knew all this, yet you have not humbled yourself.

    30. That very night Belshazzar, the Babylonian king, was killed.

What a tragedy, that he knew everything that happened to Nebuchadnezzar, yet he failed to learn from what he knew and died because of it.

Another tragedy would be for us, as Children of God, who know what we know, to still be lost because we didn’t act upon and live out what we know.

  6. 10-12 The queen heard of the hysteria among the king and his nobles and came to the banquet hall. She said, “Long live the king! Don’t be upset. Don’t sit around looking like ghosts. There is a man in your kingdom who is full of the divine Holy Spirit

The queen knew where to go.
I pray that I too will have the reputation of being full of the Spirit so that the world can be reached for the Kingdom of God. Let every where I walk every one I encounter be drawn by your presence Lord .

Grandpa used to tell s story of a dear sister who never could maintain a walk with God no matter how many times she was filled he finally explained to us one day thought the eye of a child that said Grsndos she must have a hole somewhere. Are we filled or do we leak some where and can never be full of the Spirit. I pray I am full so that daily I may be used for the Kingdom of God .

    • You, my dear sister in the Lord, are so full of the Spirit of God and so full of His Light yet remain so humble and so faithful and obedient to do His work! You are truly a wonderful example for the rest of us. May we all grow into our fullness in Him.

  7. But when his heart and mind were puffed up with arrogance, he was brought down from his royal throne and stripped of his glory.
    Daniel 5:20 NLT

They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.
    2 Timothy 3:4 NLT
He didn’t betrayed his friends but he took pleasure in the things of this world instead of the things of God
This take me back to a couple chapters before it was talking about the gift of GOD don’t get so proud heart that forget why you have those Talent GOD give and take away

  8. It’s bad enough that those in the world seek only to satisfy the carnal desires of the flesh, but when they willfully profane the vessels dedicated to God’s service, when they mock those who would choose to serve a holy God and praise the abundance of their earthly gain, when they mock the God who created all things and relegate him to the afterthought of those they’ve vanquished under their feet, God will not stand by and idly watch. Notice that as ‘They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.’

In the very same hour they praised their monetary gains in mockery of those who believe in a God they had never seen, they had the opportunity to see the supernatural. They thought themselves secure in their natural abundance, they thought little of the supernatural and may have regarded it as little more than superstition on the part of those whose God has allowed then to be vanquished… but their thoughts were changed as they saw that hand write upon the wall. Now they wanted to know, now they wanted an interpretation, now the God they had mocked became first and foremost in their minds… but it was too late.

That day is soon coming for all those in the world today. They may mock us, they may deride us, they may think us hoodwinked fools… and if we can’t change their minds their judgment will be the same. We need to make a difference! We need to be their light in the darkness! We need the be the ones to cause them to pause and consider their ways. We need to show them who God is in us, that they too might be saved! It is our purpose, it is our calling, it is the greatest reward of our service… and the difference is eternal! Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

  9. “For you have proudly defied the Lord of heaven and have had these cups from his Temple brought before you. You and your nobles and your wives and concubines have been drinking wine from them while praising gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone—gods that neither see nor hear nor know anything at all. But you have not honored the God who gives you the breath of life and controls your destiny!”
    ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭5:23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The king seems to have given honor to everything but God. And even after know the events of the king before. And yet today many find themselves in the same situation. They seem to major on the minors and minor on the majors. We must put things in priority in our lives. Seek Him first!

““Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  10. But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.
    Daniel 5:20 NKJV
    https://bible.com/bible/114/dan.5.20.NKJV

Pride robs us of Gods Blessing. When we let pride arise in our heart or begins to harden it. Pride closes the door to our mind and heart to the point that it will stop being kingdom minded and start being self minded. Pride can cause us to lose everything. We must humble our selves everyday to Him and His way. Remember its all about God and His Kingdom.

  11. iLove the Kingdom

Daniel told the king, “You can keep your gifts” and gave the interpretation. A true man of God will not be influenced by money and gifts. The walls of Babylon were considered impenetrable…which can cause folks to become full of pride when they think they are untouchable.

As soon as the nobles disrespected the Lord and the vessels of the temple the kingdom of Babylon was judged. Be careful to not defile the temple lest judgement is pronounced.

  12. 29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

What is missing is the part where this king repents for his great pride. He is given a dire prophecy, rewards Daniel, yet we don’t see where Belshazzar humbles himself before the King of Kings. Then, judgement.

  13. “Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.”
    ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭5:17

He said he would interpret the words but told them to keep the gifts to thyself and give it to someone else.
The words needed to be interpreted were
    Mene, Mene
    Tekel
    Upharsin
Those words mean “Number” “Weigh” and “Divide”
Those words were meant for Belshazzar and his days were numbered weighed and divided. I don’t know if you realize this but each of us are numbered weighed and divided and we’re here for a purpose. Each and everyday those three things are getting smaller and smaller but isn’t strange to think each day we get smaller our Wisdom gets larger.
Our Wisdom in him gets Larger and if we was to take that Wisdom that we gain day by day and USE it to Uplift the Kingdom then it’s like this. “Every one step we take for the King,He will take two for us”

Remember our days are Numbered and our life has been Weighed and what’s left behind will be Divided.

iBless you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

  14. 14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.

When we live a life that is pleasing to God people will hear of us and know of us. We can be a witness to the world and to all those who are hungry for God. Let’s live a life that is worthy of God’s blessing and favor.

  15. 23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

Another example of a fallen king who did not glorify the Lord. He took what belonged to God and worshipped other idols – foolishness.

  16. 12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.

We haven’t called and chosen and this generation to do a great work for Jesus. He has picked us up from the Miry clay and renamed us and has given us gifts for which no man can understand or describe but can identify an anointing. We have every cause and reason to stand up and allow God to work through us without fear or trembling. Our gifts are not meant to be in a secret but reserved with an excellent spirit inside of us to give glory to God!

  17. 12 This man Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, has exceptional ability and is filled with divine knowledge and understanding. He can interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”

    Why Daniel?

“He had a good head: understanding, filled with knowledge and wisdom.
He had an admirably good heart: An excellent spirit was found in him, which was a great ornament to his wisdom and knowledge, and qualified him to receive that gift; for God gives to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy. He was of a humble, holy, heavenly spirit, had a devout and gracious spirit, a spirit of zeal for the glory of God and the good of men.” MHC

The last sentence says it all, for the glory of God and the good of men. We know its only possible through Christ who strengthens us.

  18. 20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
    22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

  19. 23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

Oh how the mighty has fallen. We are to give God the glory at all times. If there anything left over it doesnt gives us a right to take it.

  20. THY KINGDOM COME
    GENERATIONAL PRIDE

23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

Pride is the original or father of sin. Therefore pride is the sin most often presented. For this cause the apostle penned the eternal words.

1Corinthians 15:30 And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?
31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.
33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

When people promote themselves or their agenda, idea or will above that of GOD it is idolatry and pride motivated and driven. Pride is the root of all horrific and grave sins. GOD has recorded this and many other testimonies of the painful end of pride.

We are wise to engraft into our daily disciplines a season of repentance. A practice of saying NO to my will and YES to the will of GOD and submission to HIS Kingdom.

The Kingdom of GOD is about serving the King!

Pride is often revealed through self will. People say things like: I will not do this or that. I do not have to do this or that.

The will or kingdom of man is a progressive aggression of self.

    The Kingdom of this world:
    Resistance
    Stubborn
    Rebellion

The will or Kingdom of GOD is a progressive digression of self.

    The Kingdom of GOD
    Willing
    Obedient
    Submission

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo

  21. 3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.

4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

The king took the precious things that were meant to be used in the Kingdom of God and disrespected them by making them “common” for use.
This decision cost him his life, and taught his family disrespect for the things of God.

Every decision we make has consequences. I don’t want to abuse/misuse the things of the Kingdom of God so that they become common place in my life with no respect. I love the Lord, I love the church. I Love the Kingdom and everything bout the King, I never want that to go away. I want to always be in “awe” of the presence of the Lord in my life. I treasure what I have been taught as truth. I treasure the opportunity to live for the Lord. I treasure His spirit in my life. I treasure my relationship with Him. I treasure HIM.

  22. And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this; But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy Lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
Daniel did not mince words with the king. He not only told him the meaning of the writing but why God sent it. He was not afraid to tell the truth to the king because he had learned his God was greater than any earthly king!

  23. 29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

It amazes me how Belshazzar didn’t repent or plead God’s mercy. Instead, he did what he promised. If the writing was interpreted, the interpreter would receive a great reward. And that was done. It looks like Belshazzar didn’t care about what God had to say or really believed or understood who God is.

While seeing this, two things come to my mind. The first, you can’t receive salvation by only doing good to God’s anointed servant and not repent. As I mentioned earlier, Belshazzar didn’t respond to God’s message. After the interpretation, he just gave Daniel a reward that Daniel didn’t even want. Belshazzar went on with his life. The second, don’t let yourself fall so deep in sin to where your heart is too hardened to receive or even believe the word God gives you. Belshazzar was out there doing his own thing. He was partying, drinking wine, and worshiping other gods! I feel like his disobedience blinded him and let his pleasure become more important than anything else. And unfortunately, this lead him to his death. If he would have responded to God’s word with repentance maybe God would have been merciful and let him live.

It’s important that we receive all of God’s messages. Whether they’re blessings or convictions. It might cost us our life, and most importantly, our salvation.

  24. ““You are his successor, O Belshazzar, and you knew all this, yet you have not humbled yourself. For you have proudly defied the Lord of heaven and have had these cups from his Temple brought before you. You and your nobles and your wives and concubines have been drinking wine from them while praising gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone—gods that neither see nor hear nor know anything at all. But you have not honored the God who gives you the breath of life and controls your destiny!”
    ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭5:22-23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It would be a shame for us to have the word of God and the example of those before us and still repeat the same mistakes. We will gain wisdom by keeping the word of God close to us and looking to those that came before us.

  25. 10 Now the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:

    11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

  26. 23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

    • I messed up and clicked “post comment” before I could finish! This verse spoke to me of how we sometimes take the things of God and enjoy them for our pleasure and turn around and make idols of things of the world even after having had the good pleasure of God and His things. How often I have seen people love the created more than the Creator. They make the created become idols by loving them more than they love God. Jesus said to love the Lord God with ALL OF OUR HEART, MIND, SOUL AND STRENGTH. ALL MEANS ALL. Then He fills us to overflowing and the created get love from that overflowing love that first and foremost belongs to Him. Beware of making anything or anyone an idol by loving them more than God.

  27. But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven;…and the GOD IN WHOSE HAND THY BREATH IS, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
    Daniel 5:23 KJV

How neglectful we are to remember that our very breath is a gift of God. As Rev. Dillon preached, we are not promised tomorrow. We are not even promised the very next breath. Each breath is a gift, a blessing, the love of God evidenced in our lives. Yet, we are quick to take such gifts for granted, while wallowing in self-pity and rehearsing the false beliefs that God is not for us or concerned with our troubles. If our very breath is in His hands, how much more are we? If He attends to each beat of our hearts, how much more will He attend to each cry of the soul uttered in prayer? If He invests Himself in the second by second functioning of our physical bodies, how much more will He be involved in every need of the spirit? We know God is for us because He woke us up this morning. We know we are sheltered in His mighty hands because we still have breath. All praise to the Living God who has given to His chosen this breath of life!

  28. Daniel 5:22-23 & 30
    22) And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this:
    23) But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified.
    30) In that same night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

Humble yourself TODAY, Glorify God TODAY, because “you can’t count on tomorrow.”

  29. 21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.

    22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified
The glory of our fathers should not effect us. We need to be able to make our own decisions, in following the Lord. God had mercy on the king and showed him grace by sending him Daniel. How many preachers come and try to wake us up?

  30. 26 I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, and steadfast forever, His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed, and His dominion shall endure to the end. He delivers and rescues, and He works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, Who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

  31. 10-11 The queen, hearing the voices of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. “May the king live forever!” she said. “Don’t be alarmed! Don’t look so pale! There is a man in your kingdom who is full of the divine Holy Spirit. During your father’s time he was well known for his intellectual brilliance and spiritual wisdom. He was so good that your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, made him the head of all the magicians, enchanters, fortunetellers, and diviners.
When the others of this world tried to interpret the writing they could not but when the man of God, Daniel, came they knew not to be alarmed because God is on his side!
20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory.
22 “But you, Belshazzar, his son,[d] have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this.
We must learn from passed mistakes from ourselfs and elders. If we don’t learn we repeat over and over and what good will come out? We have a calling to save and impact this region and if we keep repeating the mistakes we save no one. We need the anointing upon us and if not we do nothing but talk and move in this world. This generation make a decision to do our calling with the annointing to save and impact or stand back and let the mistakes repeat.

  32. 5. In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
6 Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

Let us hold tight the example set before us of the tragedy of putting our trust and desire to the things of this world. Serving this world will never bring satisfaction but only a continual longing for the next thing that might only being a temporary and fleeting sense of joy.
When God passes judgement, let’s pray we hear the words, well done thy good and faithful servant because we put aside the things and trappings of this world and held steadfast to the things of God alone.

  33. Josiah: 22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
The Bible gives us example after example and shows us what we should and should not do. God even came down to earth and gave us an example. We even have men of God, elders, leaders and more we can hear and learn from. Why learn the hard way if someone else already has and you know what they did? Let us be GO be WILLING to LEARN! Proverbs 1:5 says “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:”

  34. 22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

  35. 21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.

    22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

  36. Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
    Daniel 5:17 KJV

The Lord will supply all my need

  37. 17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

Daniel knew he did not need the payment from the king to reveal what God was trying to tell the king. It is foolish to try and gain prosperity when God is trying to use you to help someone else receive revelation.

  38. 22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

  39. Daniel 5:23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven ; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy Lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not,nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

Jeremiah 10:23 O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps

Proverbs 16:1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.

  40. 22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

If have seen and heard then you know. God will set examples and show his ways that others will follow. To Nebuchadnezzar the Lord gave him the opportunity to come to his senses and the Lord kept his kibgdom and restored it when he humbleled himself. To his son, now the king, only came judgment. We must becareful not to let the word fall from us and the examples not teach us. Watch, listen, and learn

  41. Despite the fact that Daniel was a refugee in a foreign land , he had influence. At times, he had no position or title, but when Daniel spoke, everyone listened.
What kind of influence do we have on people, do we have the same influence Daniel had because of his faithfulness to God?

  42. But when his heart and mind were puffed up with arrogance, he was brought down from his royal throne and stripped of his glory.(Daniel 5:20 NLT)

In this verse Daniel explains to Belshazzar the son of Nebuchadnezzar that his consequences for his actions. Nebuchadnezzar’s heart and mind was so swollen up with arrogance. Nebuchadnezzar carried so much pride in himself by thinking that he ruled his own kingdom, but he was brought down from his own royal throne and stripped from his glory by the King of heaven. What we can learn in this verse is that not to have a heart and mind that is swollen up with arrogance learn from the corrections God makes in others so we can be a godly example.

  43. 29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

King Belshazzar had the opportunity to learn from his father Nebuchadnezzar’s mistakes. However, he in the moment of unrighteous feasting king Belshazzar, made a choice to take from the things used in the temple of the most high God.. and only credit him as a god and praise the precious metals that have no voice and no face. The very breath of life he chose to waste on pagan perversion will end. He will no be numbered in days, weighed and found lacking and his kingdom divided. What if that was us today if we sinned and fall short to the glory of God. It was because he didn’t give God the praise he was due that he became a thief robbing God of his rightful worship. I wonder what if he would have repented and was forgiven. Would he have been restored. Instead he gave Daniel a position and gold chain he didn’t want. He died that same night. God didn’t have to send a message to be decided, he could have zapped his life lickety split but he didny.. He wanted others to wonder and learn that the Almighty God’s holy righteousness is always just.

  44. Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.

2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.

5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

6 Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

8 Then came in all the king’s wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.

9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.

Belshazzar bade defiance to the judgments of God. Most historians consider that Cyrus then besieged Babylon. Security and sensuality are sad proofs of approaching ruin. That mirth is sinful indeed, which profanes sacred things; and what are many of the songs used at modern feasts better than the praises sung by the heathens to their gods! See how God struck terror upon Belshazzar and his lords. God’s written word is enough to put the proudest, boldest sinner in a fright. What we see of God, the part of the hand that writes in the book of the creatures, and in the book of the Scriptures, should fill us with awful thoughts concerning that part which we do not see. If this be the finger of God, what is his arm when made bare? And what is He? The king’s guilty conscience told him that he had no reason to expect any good news from heaven. God can, in a moment, make the heart of the stoutest sinner to tremble; and there needs no more than to let loose his own thoughts upon him; they will give him trouble enough. No bodily pain can equal the inward agony which sometimes seizes the sinner in the midst of mirth, carnal pleasures, and worldly pomp. Sometimes terrors cause a man to flee to Christ for pardon and peace; but many cry out for fear of wrath, who are not humbled for their sins, and who seek relief by lying vanities. The ignorance and uncertainty concerning the Holy Scriptures, shown by many who call themselves wise, only tend to drive sinners to despair, as the ignorance of these wise men did.

  45. 25 And this is the writing that was written, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.

There will be a day assigned for judgement, when all the things we did that we failed to repent from will be held against us.

The grinding and nashing of teeth. More than before, we need to do the get to the work of our fathers. All God is looking for us a willing heart.

  46. 23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not

Sometimes I make plans as if God will grant me another day with breathe. He gives me the breathe of life and can take it away just in a instant. He doesn’t need to ask me when He can take away my breathe but me always seeking for Him and doing His will for when that moment comes, I shall be ready!!!

  47. ““This is the inscription that was written: mene, mene, tekel, parsin
“Here is what these words mean:
Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end.
Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.
Peres: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.””
    ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭5:25-28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What a direct and hard word! The king’s behavior so angered God that he was warned by a unmanned hand and then told, “your done, you didn’t do enough, and your kingdom will fall.” All these things came true that very night. There was not time for people to second guess if it was interpreted correctly or not. It happened quickly.

    Lessons from this—
    * Humble yourself or you will be humbled.
    * Learn from other people’s mistakes. When you see God worm in someone’s life don’t just let it pass. It needs to impact your decisions as well.
*Don’t mess with God’s holy things. —they are Holy for a reason. They were set aside of God and his servants, not for parties.
    * Call upon the man of God when you have question. —The king asked THE MAN OF GOD! He didn’t just leave it up to his own interpretation! You NEED a man of God AND you need to LISTEN to him!
    * Follow through with what you say. —The king still followed through with his promises even when things did not go in his favor. It might be hard, you might be insulted or disappointed, but you need to do what you say.

  48. But you have not honored the God who gives you the breath of life and controls your destiny!
    Daniel 5:23 NLT

  49. What can we learn from God’s hand writing on a wall? Sound sensationalized. Can you imagine for a moment what it must have been like to witness this? Is there anything we can learn from it?

Paul talks about all the events recorded in the Old Testament: “Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition [margin, “instruction”], upon whom the ends of the ages have come” (1 Corinthians 10:11). Belshazzar made a fatal mistake. He dishonored God, by using the vessels taken from the Jerusalem temple.

By the time the King witnessed the handwriting on the wall, it was already too late. If we make the changes in our lives God desires, God will provide for us and protect us. Isaiah 26:3 states: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

  50. 36“When my sanity returned to me, so did my honor and glory and kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored as head of my kingdom, with even greater honor than before.

In a sense, we all lived in a state of insanity until we believed in God. Though we never knew our circumstance of being insane, we lived our lives as if nothing. Until we repented and was baptized, our sanity returned, and our burdens were lifted. Thank you Jesus, that I received my sanity years ago…
