Acts Chapter 11

40 Days of FIRE – Day 11

Day 11: Acts Ch.11. Although persecuted and scattered, the early church continues to share Christ and grow. As our culture becomes more opposed to the Christian faith, we must not become discouraged from telling others about Jesus. Pray for wisdom and boldness as we seek and find daily opportunities to share the Gospel.

Acts 11

And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.

12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

  1. the Spirit bade me GO with them, NOTHING DOUBTING…

Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with PUAndRPOSE of HEART they would CLEAVE unto the LORD.

Then the disciples, every man ACCORDING to his ABILITY, DETERMINED to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:
    Acts 11:12‭, ‬23‭-‬23‭, ‬29 KJV

    These words stand out:

    The Spirit base me GO,
    NOTHING DOUBTING,
    WITH PURPOSE OF HEART,
    CLEAVING to the LORD,
    ACCORDING to my ABILITY,
    DETERMINED.

When the Spirit speaks, all doubt must flee and every heart should fill with purpose. Then, if we cleave to Him, He will provide the ability; and with that ability, we determine to serve Him and others.

  3. Jesus must of have been serious when He told the Church to go to the gentiles! Peter reported to his peers how God had led him to a whole new audience. By the time they heard the story, they glorify God for the new ministry. They remained teachable. The Moment we stop learning, we stop leading.

What’s mine is yours. When we sew into the Kingdom we sacrifice all we have to build it up and support those that labor with us. It is a family/community/joint effort to meet the needs of those we’re ministering to as well as the laborers themselves. Whether we be in a season of scarcity or abundance I pray we are all blessed with a spirit of giving, charity, and community. There is a need.

  5. Acts 11: 15&16

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only

Persecution didn’t stop the church from growing, they spread out, taking the word with them, teaching those who would hear this truth.

  7. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

The faith was high and the doubt was low – share the gospel and watch God’s Spirit move! There’s no reason to doubt when God is on the move and wow is God on the move here at POFW!!

Even though some doubt it the spirit of faith was high the doubt didn’t stop the church from growing

  11. 23When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord. For he was a good man, full of the Holy Ghost and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

  12. Acts 11:19-21
    19) Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.
    20) And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
    21) And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

As a believer, we ALL have the opportunity to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ to someone who is lost.
Let’s preach the word, let’s preach the Lord Jesus to the city of Fort Worth today.

  13. Acts 11: 15 (When I began to speak , the Holy Spirit fell on them just He did on us at the beginning. ( Acts 2 :1-4) And When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place, When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one them. And they were all filled ( diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues. I wasn’t raise in church , But I do remember when I got baptize in Jesus wonderful name and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. It’s made feel so good. I pray that more people will receive it. Amen and Amen.

  14. 24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

The term Christian is not something we claimed to ourselves, it’s not a title that we label Our Lives by, I personally look at it like being humble. If you have to tell people that you’re a Christian then there might be some doubt as to your lifestyle kind of like claiming that you’re humble. I do not claim to be a Christian just as I do not claim to be humble. If my actions and lifestyle are are truly evident of being a Christian then people will see that and call me Christian. We live in a world today where titles and supposition are of a higher priority, we need to be of the mindset that are lifestyle reveals the very nature of God and those that are around us do not Wonder who we serve.

  15. Acts. 11

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

Everyone according to their ability. God allowed them to use their gift and tdjents. Each have the power of the Holy Ghost yet He used them according to what they were capable of doing each ones gifts are different. There will be those you minister to that someone else might not be able to reach. Equipped for the Kingdom according to your abilities with the power off the Holy Ghost.

  16. iLove the Kingdom
19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

Since I received the Holy Ghost in 1996 and been reading the Word, I have never caught this verse like this morning. Now let’s think about it…Peter had just preached to the Jewish believers that the gospel was for the Gentiles just as it was for the Jews and the very next verse it says they were scattered and preached “to none but the Jews only”…Wow, it would seem that some chose not to accept the words of Peter and this is why the Bible gives us this insight in verse #19. It looks like the early church had the same issues we have today…Folks are gonna do what they want to do…

  17. Then I thought of the Lord’s words when he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?” When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.”

  18. 17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Thank you Jesus for the obedience of Peter, I believe we have the tendency to only see things one way, the others only saw that the Holy Ghost and Repentance was for the Jews, but the Gentiles believed in God and prayed to God even though they had no relationship with him, But God saw Cornelius heart and he saw something in the Gentiles! God is so great, I am so grateful he saved me! He delivered me! He changed me! HE LOVES ME!
    iblessyouinthenameoftheLord

  19. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

“And the hand of the Lord was with them”
Without God, none of this would have been possible. But because they sought after God and only preached His truth, God had favor on them!
If we stay in the truth and continually seek after God, His hand will be upon us.
It is already evident that the favor of God is on pofw! Thank you Jesus!

  20. Josiah: 22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
It is interesting that they chose Joses who was surnamed Barnabus, which interpreted means the son of consolation. It was Barnabus in Acts 4 that sold land and brought the money to the disciples. He was able to lay down earthly wealth and know we see him actually being sent by the church. After Barnabus had brought his sacrifice of wealth Ananias and Sapphira had sold their land, but God did not accept their sacrifice because they lied! People that God used in the Bible sacrificed. Peter, James and John laid down their nets. Barnabus laid down his land. God told a young men to sell his possessions, give to the poor, and then follow after Him. What are you willing to lay down to be used greater by God?

  21. The primary purpose of the church is to share the gospel with those in need of salvation. If we’re not sharing his gospel with the lost then what are we doing? What is our purpose in the kingdom? What difference are we making in the world around us? We should take every opportunity we can to share the gospel and see what God will do! Those in need aren’t always those we would expect as we see here in the example of Peter. He didn’t want anything to do beyond the bounds of his traditions, ‘And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:’ God had something he wanted to accomplish that was beyond Peter’s expectations. We need to be willing to go in the same fashion and to share this gospel to all who are willing and allow God to bring about the increase!

Notice that Peter took others with him. Seven men went together in unity to see what God was going to do. It certainly helped when he had to explain to the rest of the brethren and we can take advantage of that same example! If we’re unsure of how to go about it, if we need a boost in our confidence, if we just need some moral support to take that step of faith… GOD NEVER SAID WE HAD TO DO IT ALONE. Take someone with you, of like-minded faith, and go share the gospel together! Support one another and then share that testimony with the rest of the body and increase our faith to do the same!

  22. And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.
    Acts 11:2‭-‬3 KJV
The Jews had to overcome the stronghold of being better than gentiles. There are strongholds and prejudices which we have to overcome we come to God. It takes the Holy Ghost and the word working in our lives to change deep-rooted prejudices. These are strongholds that have been passed down to us from Generations but must not continue in us. When we have the conviction that every man is a living soul that will end up in eternity somewhere, we cannot help but to have a burden to see that Soul saved and to love them like Jesus loves them. It does not matter where they come from, the color of their skin, how rich or poor, even their current religion, Jesus died for them! I’m glad all peoples are welcome at the pofw!

  24. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Amén!! Not only be baptized in water but with His precious spirit. As we have been reaching more children to come to church, I pray that one day they all receive the HG and get baptized in Jesus Name! If they leave learning something I want them to leave knowing that we need to be baptized with water and HG to be saved!! We can’t let the things from this world consume us that we are to busy to reach the lost or to busy to go to church. Lord help me to never stop loving how you Love!! No love like yours Lord!!

The imperfect state of human nature strongly appears, when godly persons are displeased even to hear that the word of God has been received, because their own system has not been attended to. And we are too apt to despair of doing good to those who yet, when tried, prove very teachable. It is the bane and damage of the church, to shut out those from it, and from the benefit of the means of grace, who are not in every thing as we are. Peter stated the whole affair. We should at all times bear with the infirmities of our brethren; and instead of taking offence, or answering with warmth, we should explain our motives, and show the nature of our proceedings. That preaching is certainly right, with which the Holy Ghost is given. While men are very zealous for their own regulations, they should take care that they do not withstand God; and those who love the Lord will glorify him, when made sure that he has given repentance to life to any fellow-sinners. Repentance is God’s gift; not only his free grace accepts it, but his mighty grace works it in us, grace takes away the heart of stone, and gives us a heart of flesh. The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit.

  29. The Gospel is for everyone . bring in the thieves, the rapist, the fornicaters , the Hurt, the lost , bring the kids. So that everyone has a chance to hear the Gospel. Bring in the blacks, the whites, the mexicans , the Indians bring in everyone . because no matter what race you are or where you are from you deserve to have a chance to go to heaven.

  30. 17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the L weord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

Regardless of what people think, how they act towards and treat you; it is always best to do what God wants, tells and convicts you to do. People come and go, God is forever. No matter the circumstances, situation, trials or tribulations; He has, does and will see you through.

What a honor and a privilege to be called Christian specially only for your words and your actions and the way you carry yourself.

  32. NLT 21The power of the Lord was with them, and a large number of these Gentiles believed and turned to the Lord.

For God is with, so speak to others about Jesus. God will give you words to speak. You’ll have the power to pray for others. The Word is for anyone of any nationality.

  33. 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

When you are sharing the Word of God and you start feeling the Holy Ghost go ahead and let it come over you. That’s God trying to establish something in that persons life or even your own. Go be blessed and share his love and fire!

  34. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

When we listen to God and do what He tells us to do, there is no telling what can happen! There is no telling what God may choose to do through our obedience. In this case, many more came to God because of the obedient actions of a few men. At first it may have seemed like afew souls, but the testimony of those few souls was shared to many more that came to God. Praise the Lord for he is great! And has great plans! Hallelujah!,

  35. 20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

When the word of the Lord is preached people cant help but believe and the power of God cannot help but show up. When the truth of the gospel is preached people will believe. Preach the WORD!!

  36. 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

It take repentance for it to count.

We often pass this very important part of salvation, when we talk to people. We want them to get the Holy Ghost, and yes we do want them to receive it. But have we skipped maybe the most crucial part of this process? Without a repentant heart, we are just going through the motions of salvation. If there is not a true repentance that takes place, then how is there a changed heart? Receiving the Holy Ghost is a life altering event, one that should never be taken for granted. In our society of “asking Jesus to live inside of me” we must get to the root of sin and kill it be truly repenting. Not in this once saved business, but just like a green weed, we must go to the root and kill it. Kill the sin and use the “round-up” which is repentance. Thank you Jesus that you died on the cross so that I may be able to repent of everything that I have done wrong in my life.

  37. Acts 11:18 Hearing it all laid out like that, they quieted down. And then, as it sank in, they started praising God. “It’s really happened! God has broken through to the other nations, open them up to life!

They could not object to God

Romans 10 12 and 13 for there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek for the same Lord over all is Richmond to all that call upon him for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  38. 2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,
3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

Sometimes even those who claim the same beliefs have a hard time when you do something different from their norm.

  39. And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?”
Acts of the Apostles 11:17 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/act.11.17.NLT

We must remember that it’s all about Him and not us. When His spirit moves we must get out of the way so the spirit can operate. We are just vessels that God uses and nothing else. We need to always stay humble.

  40. It’s a beautiful thing to have the hand of the Lord with you. The enemy can try all he wants to bring you down, but God keeps us uplifted. When we follow after God’s word, we come out champions. We are victorious in Christ.

  41. 17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Several times this week God has opened my eyes to see His hand of provision and guidance in my life. He has shown me how merciful and faithful He has been to me. I can say that this has been a very humbling and eye-opening experience. I’ve always understood that if it had not been for Him my life would be much different. Yet, it’s like He’s allowed things to happen to show me in real time what life could have been like. This has given me a deeper burden for the people of this region. There are so many lives that need to know Him and we are the vessels He is using to show them the way.

In this chapter, God is trying to open Peters eyes to see that What He wants may not be the norm but the norm is not always God’s will. The will of God is for all to know Him and have the opportunity to hear the truth. So, we cannot pick and choose who we are willing to speak to. It is our responsibility may an effort to win all.

Lord, use me to help the brokenhearted, to set the captive free, and give sight to the spiritually blind. Lord, here I am, send me!

  42. “And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭11:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Not only did they receive Jesus, but others heard that they received Jesus. They didn’t keep these things to themselves. They shared. We must share the gospel. If you know the good news, you should share it.

  43. 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

People didn’t understand why Peter would sit with Gentiles. Jesus said during his ministry that he came for the children of Israel, but because they rejected him, he gave us the same access to his kingdom. He will draw back the Jews at the time of his return for his bride the church. Every knee will bow and confess that he is the one true God.

  44. 13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

Lord let our preachers and men of God have this type of anointing that as they speak the Holy Ghost falls on the people.

  45. 1 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

We should rejoice and be exceedingly glad over anyone that the Lord chooses to fill with His Spirit. It is not us that gives the spirit, nor is it us who should choose who receives the gospel. Tell everyone. Let the hunger in their heart dictate who the Lord fills. He is seeking the lost, and anyone who seeks Him, has the promise that they will find Him.

  46. 3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

I understand the law of the day that Jews were to have limited interaction with Gentiles. It was in Acts 10 that it was revealed to Peter that the gospel was to be preached and taught to the Gentiles. God had to tell Peter three times that it was permitted for him to enter a Gentile home. We may not realize whose lives we change by spending time with them and sharing our testimonies. Who knows how many will be in heaven as a result of us scattering seeds of hope wherever we go and with whomever we come in contact with? Someday, we will meet the ones whose life we changed as we all stand in the presence of God.
