Acts Chapter 19

40 Days of FIRE – Day 19

Day 19: Acts Ch. 19. Paul knew God was working in the midst of the Gentiles and he simply joined God in what he was called to do. This is the key to effective work for the Lord, finding where God is working and joining Him in that work. Ask God to help you be sensitive to what He is doing and willing to be used to advance His Kingdom.

Acts 19

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

And all the men were about twelve.

And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

39 But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

  1. But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
    Acts 19:34‭-‬35 KJV

This passage has always troubled and convicted me. Their zeal for their false god incited them to two hours of loud, public praise. Many times, even in church services, we find it difficult to offer prolonged praise of more than a few minutes to the One True God.

If unbelievers had to judge the verity of doctrines by the demonstration of their believers, which worshippers would they say were following truth? If a false god can inspire two hours of continual worship, how much more should our God be worthy of it? How much do we really believe a god whom we cannot give sustained praise to? Should we not offer God the highest praise?

  2. Acts 19:1-6
    1) AND it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
    2) He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
    3) And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
    4) Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
    5) When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
    6) And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Let us pray today that people will come to church with an open heart and receive the Word. That they will Repent, be Baptized in Jesus Name, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

  3. But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. Acts 19:9‭-‬10 KJV
I find it incredible that in the space of two years the gospel was spread to “all they which dwelt in Asia!” Lord help us to reach more people for you!

    Acts 19:2‭-‬6 KJV
Got to be baptized in the name of JESUS Christ for you sin to be wash away it’s important to teach people and tell people about the baptism of JESUS Christ because until they baptized in the name of JESUS Christ there sin is still there you got to be bold like Paul

  5. Verses 8-10 MSG “Paul then went straight to the meeting place. He had the run of the place for three months, doing his best to make the things of the kingdom of God real and convincing to them. But then resistance began to form as some of them began spreading evil rumors through the congregation about the Christian way of life. So Paul left, taking the disciples with him, and set up shop in the school of Tyrannus, holding class there daily. He did this for two years, giving everyone in the province of Asia, Jews as well as Greeks, ample opportunity to hear the Message of the Master.”

Almost sounds like the resistance of today; but, like Paul we must continue to share and give everyone the ample opportunity to hear the Message of the Master.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

We witness here in chapter 19 the evidence or fruit of The Kingdom of GOD.

  7. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus

  8. NLT 15 But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?”

Yes, the devil recognizes if you are a disciple of Christ. He can tell if you are a fake and not living for God. These men were imitating and mocking Paul, to deceive people, and maybe get more money from them. The devil knows only true servants of God, have the power to cast evil spirits.

  9. 8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

The Kingdom of God doesn’t come freely. Just like any worthy agenda this takes passion, effort, and endurance of doing the Lord’s work to establish His Kingdom.
GoWORK for the Kingdom of God! THY KINGDOM COME!!

  10. 34. But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

    35. And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

    36. Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

Did they believe in their false god more than we believe in the one, true God? Are we guilty of letting the world out-worship us?
Acts 5 has a verse similar to what their townclerk told them:

    Acts 5:
    38. And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

    39. But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

  11. A willingness to speak the truth and wisdom of God’s word and to do so in love are hallmarks of a Christian walk. Anyone who is lost is certainly in need of the truth but often they are unaware of that need… so the manner in which we deliver our words is of importance. This is particularly true of new believers whose knowledge and expectations may vary considerably. Notice the example here of Paul when he meets believers who have not yet received the holy ghost.

He knew something was different about these believers but he doesn’t point it out himself, preferring to have them answer for themselves. Have you received the holy ghost? How then were you baptized? Do you remember that John spoke of one that would come after him? He leads them into a more perfect way without disparaging what they’ve already received from God. He spoke the truth with understanding and patience to bring them to the point where they were ready to receive a greater truth from God!

We are commanded to be a light into the world! We want his light to be seen by all that are lost. It may sometimes appear to be a daunting task, so we need to remember to take the time to do it right! Every believer that comes to God is coming from a different background… and everyone of them wants to know God’s love for themselves. We need the patience to supply their needs as an individual and the wisdom to open their eyes to the truth without offending their ignorance… to speak the truth in love! We will make mistakes, but those should not silence us or dim our light. Ask for forgiveness, ask for help, learn and grow and go speak of him and his love again and again and again!

  12. Acts 19

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

I love these scriptures. What a proclamation of Jesus name baptism. If you have never taught a Bible Study this scripture is a great way to share the Gospel. When asking the question ‘If John the Baptist had baptized you would you have to be rebaptized ? 99.99 % of people will say no. Thus you then can share how John the Baptist disciples were all rebaptized in the name of Jesus Christ! There is no other name where bybwe must be saved! Scriptures clearly show us the way and we must share Truth every day. There are 1000’s of people who believe they are ready for the coming of the Lord. It is our responsibility to lead them into all truth. I pray we will walk into the opportunity daily that God sets before us. Boldly for the Kingdom! In Jesus Name.

  13. Acts 19:13-17
17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the alord Jesus was magnified.

We must stay prayed up to have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. No Jesus no power.

  14. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

  15. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

The most perfect example of outreach!!! Outreach is not as complicated as we make it. I love the word of God for it always show us the way. Just ask them. If you say well I do and then nothing; there is no such thing I believe that the word will stay in their heart and if anything it will continue to echo in their heart and mind.

  16. 14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

The evil spirits recognized that there was no power behind what the seven sons were saying. They were empty, void of the spirit and because of that the spirits overtook them. We must be “full” of the holy ghost at all times. We never know when we are going to encounter a need that we must minister to through the power of His name. If we are not spiritually prepared, then we cannot do the work that God sent us to do.

  17. Acts 19: 11-12 (English Amp) And God did unusual and extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul. (12) So that handkerchiefs or towels or aprons which had touched his skin were carried away and put upon the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. Just like Paul laid his hands upon these people and the Holy Spirit came on them. Wow signs, wonders, and miracles that God did for these stubborn, ( hardened, and unbelieving. ) Lord I prayed today that all unbelieving people will come to realize that there is only one God that cast out demons and heal there body. Jesus Christ and his mighty power of the Holy Ghost. I pray that people wake up and get there lives in order with the lord.

  18. God gave Paul the power to perform unusual miracles. When handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled.
Acts of the Apostles 19:11‭-‬12 NLT

I ca remember this back in the day! And thank The LORD it is stiill done today – as thr pastor annoints!!!!!

  19. I Love To Worship The Lord
    vs:5-6
As soon as they herd this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then when Paul laid his hands upon there heads the Holy Spirit came on them and they spoke in other languages and prophesied.
Wow!!!!! what a great (Acts:2-38) showing that being filled with The Holy Ghost and speaking in tounges

  20. 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

These cloths were anointed, the anointance of God was on these cloths and people’s sickness was cured diseases left and evil spirits went out of these people that had ahold of an anointed cloth. God has anointed men and women of God and have gave them this same authority to cast out demons and lay hands on the sick to be healed.

  21. iLove the Kingdom

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

True repentance causes true change. When a person truly comes to Jesus they will rid themselves of anything that might offend Gods Holy Nature. These magic books needed to go into the fire. During the 40 days of fire, let’s remove all hindrances and throw them in the fire and watch God do great things

  22. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

We don’t need to complicate the gospel. It’s very simple, we love people and tell them what God wants to tell them. It’s pepper that make it more complicated and complex, we are to teach the simple message. Jesus told the deciples that it should be so easy a child can understand it. Let’s be sent out with the simple message God gave us

  23. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

These people believed in Jesus as the messiah but they did not understand the importance of His death, burial, and resurrection and just how Jesus truly saved them. I believe there are many people who believe in Jesus but do not understand the importance of repentance, being baptized in Jesus name, and receiving the Holy Ghost. And that is why we were called for such a time as this!

  24. “He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭19:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

People are lost. People genuinely never heard the name of Jesus before. They never know the doctrine that Jesus taught. God has called us to be ministers and ambassadors of the gospel. We have to reach the world.

One day Fort Worth will see a revival that all me. Will come and throw everything they have at the alter of Christ. They will give up there guns, drugs, lust, their evil things for God.

Man measures on what you gain and how much you built and accomplished.

God measures on what you leave behind.

“And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭19:18-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    //Kingdom

  25. For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

    You are dismissed

When one is walking in integrity there is not a need to worry about the accusations of me. God will always fight for those who are fighting for Him. People of God let us remember the crowd may be loud it may often “look” intimidating but the truth is we should never be intimidated by those that have no power when we are following the one who has all power in heaven and earth.

  26. Paul asked the crowed if they received the Holy Ghost . We have to make sure all of our friends and enemies go to heaven with us.

  27. 1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

We must be lights into this dark world. There are still people in this world that don’t know about God.

  28. Josiah: 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
I know these were people who served God and didn’t know about the Holyghost and baptism in Jesus Name. All Paul had to do was just tell them and they were willing to be baptized. There are some lost souls that we just need to tell them the Word and show them the Church. Yes, there will be those who will oppose but there is also those who will accept. So, let us GO WITNESS TO THIS WORLD!

  29. 13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

There is only one true God and Jesus is His name! Praise the Lord! We have so many examples throughout the Bible of how this is true and this one is kinda cool because it is a reminder that even the devils know who God is. They know who serves God. If even they know that, we should not be afraid to go in Jesus name and share His gospel. With God all things are possible! Praise the Lord for He is great!

  30. 32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

Some people just join in at 5e end of conversation, not knowing what is being talked about. This is what happened here. There was an uproar but most didn’t even know what about. We must be careful about joining in to anything that we don’t understand. Don’t be part of the crowd. Be particular in what you include yourself in so you know where you are really headed.

  31. 8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.
9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

God desires to use us for His glory. He will direct our paths and bring us to those that are willing and desire to know more of Him and to be forever changed by Him.

  32. We have to be the light in this dark world. As Bro. Jackson preached this morning “Saturate Me”! Being filled with the Holy Ghost we need to be saturated in God that will someone ask us something we can be a light to them.

  33. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

Oh yes the word mighty tonight it was, mighty in battle lord over all King of Creation we lift up the name of the Lord!

  34. And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for 3 months, reasoning and persuading concerning the thing of the kingdom of God.But when some where Hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus and this continued for two years, so that all who dwellt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks .

I Peter 2:2 as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that she may grow thereby

Be bold in the Holy Ghost!

  35. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

God has the power to do anything, he blessed Paul with power to do miracles. Miracles and wonders are for us too. Seek the Lord.

  36. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
    Acts 19:15 KJV

Who am I? And your kingdom

    A.L.M.A.S.

  37. 17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

This sounds like revival. When God starts moving people begin to come clean and turn their lives back to Him.

  38. A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!”(Acts of the apostles 19:12 NLT)

This verse explains that the group of Jews witnessed how Paul had casted out demons under the authority and name of Jesus. So they traveled from town to town in attempts to cast out evil spirits. This is a good example to not use the Lord our God’s name as a charm or spell. To use athority we must be under authority.

  39. 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

To some this sounds like nonsense but even with a shadow (Peter’) GOD did miracles to heal the sick

    Acts 5:15 (KJV)
15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

  40. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

This is a great revelation that God finds us where we are. We are each on a certain place on our path with God. Some are just starting off as spiritual babies taking in the kingdom by bottle, some are full grown mighty warriors leading soul winning revivals to thousands. Either way at some point we have to accept instruction, John may have blazed the trail for Jesus as the forerunner but now they have to pay down the doctrinal foundation on which the church is being built. We are the product of this movement and we get to spread this same gospel with the same tenacity and wildfire.

  41. “And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not. And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭19:30-31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

One person can make bad decisions. Friends and breathers can help to make better decisions. This is one reason you don’t forsake the gathering of the saints. Also this is a reason that Jesus sent the disciples out in pairs. If one person has bad judgment the other can talk sense into them. Thank you Jesus for you nuggets of wisdom buried within the word.

  42. And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

Paul, at Ephesus, found some religious persons, who looked to Jesus as the Messiah. They had not been led to expect the miraculous powers of the Holy Ghost, nor were they informed that the gospel was especially the ministration of the Spirit. But they spake as ready to welcome the notice of it. Paul shows them that John never design that those he baptized should rest there, but told them that they should believe on Him who should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. They thankfully accepted the discovery, and were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. The Holy Ghost came upon them in a surprising, overpowering manner; they spake with tongues, and prophesied, as the apostles and the first Gentile coverts did. Though we do not now expect miraculous powers, yet all who profess to be disciples of Christ, should be called on to examine whether they have received the seal of the Holy Ghost, in his sanctifying influences, to the sincerity of their faith. Many seem not to have heard that there is a Holy Ghost, and many deem all that is spoken concerning his graces and comforts, to be delusion. Of such it may properly be inquired, “Unto what, then, were ye baptized?” for they evidently know not the meaning of that outward sign on which they place great dependence.

  43. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

It’s all in the name of Jesus and even the enemy knows that!

  44. In general, people don’t like change. I don’t like change. During bible times, change was perceived as a threat to survival which triggered the ‘fight or flight’ response. Though fighting or fleeing increased the chances of survival for, neither are very effective. Unfortunately, we like to think that we have evolved beyond our ancestors, the reality is that we are still quite primitive in some ways including our response to change. That same reaction still occurs in us when presented with a change to our lives. So, our instinctive reaction to change is to fight it or run away.

A lack of predictability and control is a powerful source of stress to people. When we actively engage in the change process, we give ourselves the power to predict and plan for what lies ahead. By accepting change, we give ourselves a sense of control over how those changes will impact us. Also, we give ourselves a sense of ownership of the change and it can then become the normal.

  45. “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Acts of the Apostles 19:2 NLT

You can be surprise what we can find out if we ask the right question. Asking the right question can determine whether someone will receive the Holy Ghost or not.

  46. vss 4-5
As the early Church baptized in the name of JESUS in obedience to JESUS ‘ own commands, so should we.
