Acts Chapter 1

40 Days of FIRE – Day 40

Day 40: Acts Ch.1. I am amazed at the many references to. (1) the prayer life of the early Church and (2) their unity of mind and heart. These two characteristics, along with a total dependence on the Holy Ghost, were the keys to the rapid expansion of the early Church. Yet today, we scratch our heads and wonder why our churches are in decline. Ask God to help you be an active part in being of “one mind and one spirit, striving together for the faith of the gospel.”

JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

Acts 1

The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

  1. Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry…
That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
    Acts 1:16‭-‬17‭, ‬25 KJV

Judas walked with the Lord right along beside the other apostles. He had the same experiences, heard the same teachings, and witnessed the same miracles. He was among those that Jesus sent out to cast out devils and heal the sick. He experienced the power and presence of God on a daily basis for over three years. Yet, his heart was unsubmitted to the Lord he followed.

It is frightening to think that he was close enough to the Lord to receive a piece of bread from His hand when the devil entered into him. This shows us that proximity to the things of God are not enough to purify a heart and guarantee salvation. The flesh, the will, the very thoughts of the heart must submit to the authority and the plan of God.

Some have given Judas the benefit of the doubt and said that he didn’t really want to betray the Lord, he just wanted to force Jesus into assuming kingshipship over Rome. Even if this was true, it shows that he didn’t accept the sovereignty and omniscience of Christ. He felt his plan and will was better than Jesus’, thus proving his unsubmitted heart and attitude.

We cannot fool God. We can walk with apostles and prophets. We can sit at the Master’s feet and do many mighty works in His name, but we cannot hide an uncrucified will. No wonder the wise man said, “Keep the heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life,” (Prov. 4:23).

Whatever the Lord is dealing with us about, we want to submit that idol, that attitude, that resistance, that excuse, ect., to Him. If we are angry, disappointed, disillusioned, or impatient with how God is working His plan in our lives, then we need to surrender to His sovereignty and trust that He knows best. We don’t want to be like Judas: Close enough to touch Him, and yet too far away to be touched by Him. Let’s build our altar this Pentecost Sunday and lay every unsubmitted area of our hearts upon it. Our God will answer by 🔥!

  2. 6So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?”

I’m sure the apostles had many questions for Jesus after his resurrection. If we had the opportunity to ask Jesus questions we would. Such as why death? Why sickness? Why the violence? Why not only peace and live? We could go on and on.

We don’t understand, but one day we’ll have that opportunity when we reach heaven and see Jesus walking streets of heaven. We’ll have all the answers, but until then, we are under God’s plan.

NLT Proverbs 3:5-6, 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

  3. Verse 14 MSG “They agreed they were in this for good, completely together in prayer, the women included. Also Jesus’ mother, Mary, and his brothers.” Same verse AMP “All these with one mind and one purpose were continually devoting themselves to prayer, [waiting together] along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. As we end this Forty Days of Fire, let us come boldly together as 1 John 5:14 AMP says “This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that [a]if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us. Let us never stop praying for one another. Ephesians 6:18 AMP says “With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all [a]God’s people.” Let your will be done Lord….Thy Kingdom Come.

  4. Acts 2
    Power
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Power to be a witness all over the world. All over Fort Worth. All over our neighborhood. There are no limits to what God has given to us in the Holy Ghost! Power power of the Holy Ghost!

  5. We see the examples of the early church and recognize it’s commitment to prayer and the unity of the body. The unity of the early church however, did not come about by luck or a fortuitous grouping of similar personalities… it was the natural result of their dedication to prayer and fasting. We recognize the need for prayer today, just as we acknowledge the need for reading our Bible and the need in remaining faithful in our attendance to services, but the linkage between them is perhaps something taken for granted our even overlooked.

Prayer is what establishes our relationship and direction from God. A lifetime of prayer will gradually reshape us from within to become more and more like him. When coupled with fasting, it increases our faith as it overcomes those aspects of our ‘self’ that are not pleasing unto God. And as we each come closer to him, it is so much easier to attain unity among the body because we’re attracted to the same spiritual fruit. The same nature is coming forth in each of us. The same love is being planted within each of our hearts. The same desire to please the same God is growing in us all, which allows those bonds which pull us together to be strong in his love and unified in his purpose. Unity through prayer and fasting!

  6. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Unity and obedience. It was brought them to the upper room and was the strength of the church. Unity is what God said would build the tower of Babel where He said that nothing could prevent them from building it. obedience is what saved Noah and abraham. What the church needs more than anything is to he obedient and unity. Nothing will stop us from reaching more people and growing, especially with God backing us up, if we practice unity and obedience

  7. He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
    Acts of the Apostles 1:7‭ – 8

  8. 1:4,5. And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, with sai th he, ye have herd of me.
For John truly baptized you with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many dads hence..

2000 Years plus… after .. TODAY!! Now! It’s the time, now the time of SALVATION.
Lord your will be done TODAY! Praying the souls that will be going to Pofw today, just like those 120 waited and persevered in one mind and one accord, I pray that the souls will hang there until the end. Until you ‘re done with what you have in mind. They waited, we can wait for. Two hour hopefully more….
    To God Be the glory!!!

  9. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Let this be our desire today, to be in one accord in prayer and supplication for the Holy Ghost to fall on everyone in our services today.

  10. THY KINGDOM COME
    MY REPLACEMENT

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

The Kingdom of GOD is THAT. HIS Kingdom. We live in a dangerous state of mind when we think that position or tenure guarantees our salvation. I do not suggest or advocate that we live in fear. However it is imperative for us to understand that we can be replaced and GOD already has a plan in place to maintain HIS Kingdom order.

    The scripture clearly states:

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

Psalms 109:8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Seeking FIRST The Kingdom of GOD is revealed as we seek to place JESUS above all that we have in this life and world. Also as we protect and defend our placement, position or office in HIS Kingdom.

Lets GO serve the KING and HIS Kingdom today as we share HIS Gospel with the lost.

    Acts 1:10‭-‬11 KJV
We have the promise of angels, Jesus and prophesies that say Jesus is coming back for us!!! In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:2‭-‬3 KJV
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
    Jude 1:14 KJV

  12.  when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

  13. Acts 1:13-15b
    13) And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
    14) These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
    15) … (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty).

“These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication.” They were in UNITY.

  14. 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

  15. 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

I would love to know how those conversations went with my beloved Saviour. I pray I never forget the power of Your passion, Lord.

  16. How do you think they felt when they saw Jesus nailed to the cross? Feelings are not always the truth of what is really happening. Feelings always change but the Word of God stays the same day after day. Jesus told them in Matthew 16:21 “on the third day he would be raised to life”.

  17. 9. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

    12. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

Can you imagine that walk back to Jerusalem? After all they had experienced the last few weeks, they just watched Jesus defy gravity and rise into the clouds. It couldn’t have been just an ordinary day’s walk.
Our daily walk shouldn’t be ordinary, either. While we don’t physically see Jesus standing before us, we still spend time in His presence, see His miraculous works, and have His power within us – extraordinary, indeed!

  18. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

    10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

  19. And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
    Acts 1:4‭, ‬7‭-‬8 KJV
Yesterday we read God promise be fulfilled today we see GOD promise be spoked we see here as spoken that you receive power when the Holy Ghost comes upon you we are GOD Because we have the Holy Ghost

  20. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

  21. Bella says “Jesus says to worship.”

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

I can imagine that Matthias felt very humbled to be a called a part of that group…

  22. That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
    Acts 1:25‭-‬26 KJV

I have read this chapter many times and I have never noticed this two verse and they cast lot’s that means they voted somebody in the ministry. So the Lord chose who he wanted through voting, so we vote for a governor or a president or vice president God choose who he want to our boats. So it doesn’t matter what everybody else one is what got was after all.

  23. Act1:20 (English Amp) For in the book of Psalms it is written, Let his place of residence become deserted and gloomy, and let there be no one to live in it; and again, Let another take his position or overseership.[ Ps.69:25] Let their habitation and their tents.[Ps.108:8] Let his days be few; and let another take his office and charge. We need to stay maintain and focus on the kingdom of God.

  24. 12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

They were on a mission. They had been given specific instructions and it was their intention to fulfill their mission. We too have been given specific instructions to reach the lost, share the gospel, give them what we have been given. Will we fulfill our mission? Will we allow temporal things to become distractions to us? Will we bring our minds under subjection to His spirit so that His will can be accomplished? Will we invite His Kingdom to come into our lives, and wherever and whatever He asks us to do we will do?

Let’s have the mind of Christ today and fulfill His purpose in Fort Worth to seek and save that which is lost.

  25. WORK FOR THE KINGDOM!!!

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

We must work for His Kingdom from the moment we get baptized to the day we are caught up in the sky with our Lord. I get so frustrated with some people that will post on Facebook bored. There are so many things to do in this world for the cause of His Kingdom how can you be bored? From reaching out to the elderly at the nursing homes, read them the Bible our loud for their frail eyes can see the print anymore, bring them words of encouragement, or just love on them and listen to their stories you might just learn something. There are hurting people waiting for anyone to uplift them with a word, why not let it be the gospel of Jesus Christ. I made it a point that no matter what church I go to I ask if I may do something from cleaning the House of God, to serving my brothers and sisters. Do not wait make sure you become His witness immediately after baptism.

  26. Acts 1:7-9
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white appare

  27. Josiah: 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
We may not know the time or the season that the Lord will come, but we do know that He has not come again yet. As long as the Lord tarries and as long as we have breath in our bodies we can still witness to this world. This world outnumbers the Church in numbers but not in power. The Church of GOD is going to win. It is just a matter of who will be with the Lord for eternity. So, let us GO WITNESS again and again as long as we can in JESUS NAME!

  28. 3 After his death, he presented himself alive to them in many different settings over a period of forty days. In face-to-face meetings, he talked to them about things concerning the kingdom of God.

Over these forty days thy kingdom has come in services, miracles, and blessings! I thank you Lord for all you have shown and gave to us! I thank you in advance for what’s to come today in services! Our God is alive and working his miracles, what a mighty God we serve!

  29. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Ye shall receive power! That’s the power to overcome and to have dominion over the adversary. When I received the Holy Ghost I immediately had the power to say NO to the adversary because I was picked and chose by God and when I accepted God and allowed him to Dwell in my temple I gave God permission to be my ruler. To be my master so when I say NO then NO means NO when it comes to turning away from the adversary. So Go today with the Power of The Holy Ghost!

  30. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Ghost has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

  31. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

There is no limit to what God can do when are unified to His will in our lives

  32. iLove the Kingdom
26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

    Our Lot in Life

That’s unfair, why did Matthias get chosen? Well, we all know life isn’t fair and we can’t explain why certain people get certain lots in life, but we can learn to trust God. God will always lead us right and will never lead us astray

  33. iLove the Kingdom
26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven children apostles.

    Our Lot in Life

That’s unfair, why did Matthias get chosen? Well, we all know life isn’t fair and we can’t explain why certain people get certain lots in life, but we can learn to trust God. God will always lead us right and will never lead us astray

  34. 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Will you wait? We heard thus morning how several became tired of waiting and left. They walked out even knowing God had a promise waiting for them; don’t become inpatient with God’s time and purpose. Stay faithful and wait upon the Lord! Just keep on keepin on and keep faithin it til you get what God has promised!

  35. 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Today is the day of when salvation was poured out upon all flesh. Today we celebrate the outpouring of God’s Spirit to us. This is the whole reason why Hos Kingdom can reign in us. Because of His Holy Spirit.

  36. 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

    10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

Our Lord told the disciples the work they were to do. The apostles met together at Jerusalem; Christ having ordered them not to depart thence, but to wait for the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. This would be a baptism by the Holy Ghost, giving them power to work miracles, and enlightening and sanctifying their souls. This confirms the Divine promise, and encourages us to depend upon it, that we have heard it from Christ; for in Him all the promises of God are yea and amen.

  37. 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

  38. 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Just as we heard tonight, it is important to not get easily swayed by this world and give up on God because things are not happening fast enough. Just as the hundred and twenty waited on the Lord for the Holy Ghost, I need to wait on the Lord in my life! I need to wait and see what God is trying to teach me. Look around and see what God has done and rejoice in what He will do, and most important to be patient and wait on Him! I do not want to miss something from God because I am impatient. Praise the Lord for He is mighty and greatly to be praised!! Praise the Lord!

  39. .

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

Before any important desicion pray and ask the Lord.

  40. Acts 1:26 And they gave forth there Lots; and the lot fell upon Mathias; and he was numbered with the 11 apostles.

Prior to Pentecost the casting of lots was a divinely approved method of discerning God’s will (Joshua 18/8) Proverbs 16:33 states: “The lot is cast into the lap; for the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.” Nowhere else in Acts is there any record of a New Testament church using lots. The Holy Spirit now provides that direction( Galatians 5:18 but if you be let out of the spirit, you are not under the law.

  41. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

God will fulfill His promises on His appointed time, not ours. His way is perfect and He knows all things.

  42. 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

The number 40 in the Bible marks a time of a certain testing, trial or probation period. Some geat examples are Moses: He was on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights, on two separate occasions (Exodus 24:18, 34:1 – 28), receiving the 10 Commandments. He also sent spies, for forty days, to investigate the land God promised the Israelites as an inheritance (Numbers 13:25, 14:34). The death march in the wilderness was 40 years.
God flooded the earth for 40 days and 40 nights in the days of Noah in Gen 7. Jesus was in the wilderness fasting for 40 days and 40 nights when he was tempted of the devil. In each situation their was a obstacle to overcome and when endured faithfully it leads to life more abundantly. If we don’t backside in the desert then God can lead us to the mountain.

  43. During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.(Acts of the Apostles 1:3 NLT)

Jesus was tempted by the devil during the forty days and he overcame satan. Here Jesus also revealed himself before the apostles for forty days before ascending into heaven. During this time Jesus taught the apostles of the things to come he wanted his people to be prepared for his next coming.

  44. “And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:23-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

They had good replacement options, but they didn’t just pick one. They prayed. They asked God to guide their decision. God showed them which person to use and he was welcomed into becoming an apostle.
