Amos 6

Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

The Lord God hath sworn by himself, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

10 And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the Lord.

11 For, behold, the Lord commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

13 Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

  1. Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
    Amos 6:1‭, ‬4‭-‬4‭, ‬6 KJV

    God help us when our lives are so consumed with our own concerns and comforts that we are not grieved for the lost and the hurting. It is so easy to just turn our heads and pretend we don’t see them. We become so good at it that even when we do look on them, we don’t even consider their lost condition, or we excuse ourselves of all responsibility of doing something about it. We are practiced at our good excuses.

    Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan. The priest looked on the man from the other side of the road. He probably excused himself thinking the injured was dead or might die soon. He knew that he would be defiled and wouldn’t be able to perform his duties or eat of the sacrifices if he became unclean. It wasn’t worth the risk to him; his job was too important. The Levite came closer to get a better look, but he also decided the cost of involvement was greater than he was willing to pay. Only the Samaritan considered compassion to be more important than risk or sacrifice.

    It is always a risk to commit oneself to helping others. They may inconvenience you or make you uncomfortable. They may be ungrateful, unresponsive, or (worse yet) they may try to take advantage of you. They may cost you money or time or both. They may never accept God’s salvation, but none of this excuses us from showing the love and compassion of Christ. He condemned the people of His day just like He did these in Amos, because they refused to see the condition of others. They should have seen the captivity of Israel (Joseph) and learned by it–been moved by it to intercession and repentance, but they were unconcerned. They felt that they would always be protected from such suffering themselves. They continued on in their selfish ways until they met the same fate. God help us to learn from these examples the Bible has given.

    Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
    Matthew 25:34‭-‬46 KJV

  2. In the NIV the beginning of this chapter is captioned “Woe to the Complacent”. Complacent: showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one’s achievements. Lord help us to see that we cannot afford to have this attitude or spirit; but, rather be sensitive to the needs and say “yes” to the manner in which you can use us to be blessing.

    The second half of this chapter is captioned “The Lord Abhors the Pride of Israel”. The Lord detests pride. Proverbs 16:5 NLT “The Lord detests the proud; they will surely be punished.” Let us humble ourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God as 1 Peter 5:6 says and let the Lord guide us in all things, keeping the fire burning within us.

  3. 3 Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
    4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
    5 That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
    6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
    7 Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.
    8 The Lord God hath sworn by himself, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

    I’ve always interpreted the scripture to be talking about how Israelites are so spoiled in their ways but so evil in their actions andtaking everything for granted what happened of boldness to enjoy the blessings God has given them. Well the mercy of God endureth forever there is still a righteous judge on the throne that does not tolerate lukewarm Behavior. The Bible tells us that he hates their instruments and he has given them over to a city to be enslaved because they lost their way of serving the one true God. God has a truly loving and Redemptive nature but also is a just and omnipotent deity who has the role of being the judge. The scripture is informing us that they have not put away evil actions and Have Nots cursed other gods but have been playing around on both ends hus giving them a chance to repent, but due to their heart being so wicked they have refused to turn away and oh God is giving them up to another country. May our hearts never leave our first love which brought us to God in the first place which God Drew us in. May we always continue steadfastly in the gospel growing in the love of Christ every single day. May we always serve our God and keep our Hearts pure towards the one true God

  4. Amos 6:4-5 (English Amp) Woe to those who lie upon beds of ivory and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of flock and calves out of the midst of the stall, [5] Who sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and invent for themselves instruments of music like David’s. [ 1 Chron.23:5] And , said David, 4,000 shall be gatekeepers and 4,000 are to praise the Lord and 6,000 were to be officers and judges. Lord help us learn by being examples of the bible. And being witness to this world. To God be the Glory.

  5. 6 You drink wine by the bowlful
    and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions.
    You care nothing about the ruin of your nation
    7 Therefore, you will be the first to be led away as captives.
    Suddenly, all your parties will end.

    What do we really care about? Your flesh or the kingdom of God! Your own desires or the desires of what God wants. To be selfish or to share the gospel of God. Many are just content wih saving themselves or doing the least they can do for God…..when we should want more and more of Him. We must be that vessel for God to use us. I don’t want to stand in judgement and be asked why I didn’t do this or do that? Be I want God to say “well done, thy good and faithful servant.” I want the power of God to be over me and reach as many as I can for His Glory & Kingdom!!!

  6. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!
    12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

    Trust. In whom do we trust? Here it says woe unto them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria. The children of Israel put their trust in something of this world that they have no reason to put heir trust in. Then because they put their trust in something that is not God and did not care. They do things that are not righteous in the eyes of God. And pervert the fruit of righteous into poison and judgement into a bitter drink. Showing how horrible it must be for God to pronounce judgement on his people. And it all began this time, because they did not put their trust in God. May I learn from Israel’s mistake and always put my trust in the God that saved me and raised me, whose name is Jesus.

  7. I think the key to this is in the first verse where it says woe unto those that are at ease in Zion. My interpretation of this passage is that is trying to say those that are comfortable with salvation may need to think twice about the relationship to the Lord. From my experience in the Southern Baptist Church they emphasized salvation as a once saved always saved, however that may be dangerous ground if one grows comfortable thinking that they are entitled, regardless of their proactive relationship with the Lord

  8. iLove the Kingdom
    “The Sovereign Lord has sworn by his own name, and this is what he, the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, says: “I despise the arrogance of Israel, and I hate their fortresses. I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies.””
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Notice God says “I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies…” Wow, this right here should inform each of us that safety is in the hands of the Lord and not in the strength of our own fortresses. I pray God would give each of us this understanding.

    When we work for the Lord and refuse to be a couch potato, He will reward us with His strength

  9. What sorrow awaits you who lounge in luxury in Jerusalem, and you who feel secure in Samaria! You are famous and popular in Israel, and people go to you for help. But go over to Calneh and see what happened there. Then go to the great city of Hamath and down to the Philistine city of Gath. You are no better than they were, and look at how they were destroyed. You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer. The Sovereign Lord has sworn by his own name, and this is what he, the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, says: “I despise the arrogance of Israel, and I hate their fortresses. I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies.”
    Amos 6:1‭-‬3‭, ‬8 NLT
    Israel thought they were better than everyone they were prideful but GOD show the what up and bring disaster and there enemies against them don’t ever think you better then someone

  10. YOLO – you only live once! From the very first time I heard this I didn’t like it. It sounds great to an ordinary person but it is the ruin of many. Going through life with a made up excuse to do what you please and how you please because you only have one life. In the contrary, because you only have one life, take care of yourself. Be kind one to another. I prefer to be know as a righteous daughter of God, kind to others, positive, joyful, and a person that is an example of a Christian instead of a person that lived in the moment, without living a legacy, just acting according to my pleasures. You can think you are better, greater, or holier than thou attitude because sooner or later your castle of sand will collapse. God is warning Israel that their attitude is a nasty one and He is sending an army to humble them.

  11. 8 The Sovereign Lord has sworn by his own name, and this is what he, the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, says: “I despise the arrogance of Israel, and I hate their fortresses. I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies.” (NLT)

    Knowing what God hates, why would we carry on pridefully thinking we can carry on handling ourselves. Without God I am but dust, who am I to think what I have and what I’ve built up in life is all by my own works – foolishness! The Lord has blessed me, He’s blessed us all with life and everything we have. Thank You Lord for Your excellent greatness and Your hand of blessing upon my life!

  12. “How terrible for you who sprawl on ivory beds and lounge on your couches, eating the meat of tender lambs from the flock and of choice calves fattened in the stall. You sing trivial songs to the sound of the harp and fancy yourselves to be great musicians like David. You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:4-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Oh wow these folks are getting called out for them selfish acts.
    Unfortunately there are some that are still like this that think they’re holier than thou. The importance of Humility can only be demonstrated the best through Jesus Christ Himself. We the people, the light, the temples God has chose to dwell in need to remind ourselves that we are the resting place for Jesus Christ and we are to keep a humble lifestyle.

    Be blessed in Jesus name!

  13. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Isra. J soliz

  14. Amos 6
    1Woe to you who are complacent in Zion,
    and to you who feel secure on Mount Samaria,
    you notable men of the foremost nation,
    to whom the people of Israel come!

    com·pla·cent
    showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one’s achievements.
    “you can’t afford to be complacent about security”
    synonyms: smug, self-satisfied, self-congratulatory, self-regarding, conceited;

    God is our refuge and strength to become at ease is not what He has called us to but to work in the Kingdom to use the power He has poured out upon us within us. We must continue this is about the Kingdom not about self.

    Zephaniah 1:12 At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those who are complacent, who are like wine left on its dregs, who think, ‘The LORD will do nothing, either good or bad.’

  15. Woe (judgment is coming) to those who are at ease and carefree in Zion (Judah) And to those on the mountain of Samaria who feel secure, The distinguished men of the foremost of nations, To whom the house of Israel comes.
    AMOS 6:1 AMP

    Some of us are way too young to be set in our ways. Remember it’s not about us it’s about the kingdom of God and the Lost Souls.

    A.L.M.A.S.

  16. You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation.
    Amos 6:6 NLT

    This reminds me of what was said about being comfortable sitting on a pew. We can’t get so comfortable in the presence of the Lord that we forget about His heartbeat, His first love, His passion.

  17. You push away every though of coming disaster,
    but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer.
    Amos 6: 3 NLT

  18. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    I’ve heard it from several preachers… “complacency kills revival” It is my prayer this morning that we would not allow ourselves to get complacent with the harvest that we’ve experienced and the revival that we are having but that there would be a continual hunger and thirst. God is wanting to give us more but we have to be willing to labor and pray.

  19. “Do all the good you can,
    By all the means you can,
    In all the ways you can,
    In all the places you can,
    At all the times you can,
    To all the people you can,
    As long as ever you can.” (John Wesley)

    In other words, this life is not all about you! This was a concept those to whom Amos was prophesying had a hard time grasping. Our lives become richer and more rewarding when we work not just for ourselves, but when we invest in the lives of others as well.

    John 15:13 (KJV)
    13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

  20. Amos 6:1,4-6
    1) WOE to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!
    4) That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
    5) That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
    6) That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

    How sad when people become Comfortable in the church and live for themselves and are never grieved for the lost and afflicted souls of Fort Worth.
    There is no place for Ease, Comfortableness, Complacency, Laziness in God’s house.
    It’s about God, His Kingdom, and His Work!

  21. 4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
    5 That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
    6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

    The lazy rich ignored the poverty around them one commentator said, but it was the rebellion against God that Amos is also referring to. They felt that God would not punish Israel, no matter what they did. They thought the mountain of Samaria would provide protection. I would say look inward and see if I am guilty of being at ease in Zion and if I am, wake up! There is a harvest waiting on us to wake up as Bro Art Wilson said and get busy reaching our city.

  22. 14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

    The result of “being asleep in Zion” is the Lord raising up a nation against us. We have taken new territory during our 40 days of Fire as a Church Body, and it behooves us to be aware that we don’t fall asleep in Zion now that the fasting/sacrificing time is over. We can’t just maintain, we have to continue on the upward thrust in the Spirit. Keep the fire burning!!!

  23. Amos 6:1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations,to whom the house of Israel came!

    Luke 6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for he have received your consolation.

    Isaiah 31:Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!

  24. THY KINGDOM COME
    ENGAGED IN MINISTRY

    1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    The WORD of the LORD is ETERNAL. Lets consider the relevance of this verse to The POFW.

    WOE – A passionate cry of grief or despair.
    AT EASE – careless. haughty and arrogant, secure in a bad sense.
    ZION – Jerusalem (The Church) “Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.”

    There were evidently some people who trusted the system more than the creator. If or when we place our trust in this world; earnings, possessions, privileges and feel as if we are exempt from the sacrifices requested or demanded from JESUS. Then we are in a place of despair in HIS Kingdom.

    This is why we must DAILY “Seek FIRST The Kingdom of GOD”. In Passionate Pursuit of the WILL and KNOWLEDGE of GOD.

  25. “What sorrow awaits you who lounge in luxury in Jerusalem, and you who feel secure in Samaria! You are famous and popular in Israel, and people go to you for help.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    This world is not our home. We shouldn’t get comfortable here. This is the process to get to our destination. We belong to another Kingdom and our desire should be to seek and please God first.

    “You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭5:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    “Whereas she who lives for pleasure and self-indulgence is spiritually dead even while she still lives.”
    ‭‭1 TIMOTHY‬ ‭5:6‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  26. 14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lordthe God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

  27. Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    We cannot afford in the kingdom of God to be at ease and lazy. We must stand up. equip ourselves with what God has given us and fight the battle that he wants us to fight. Because the Lord will never give us a battle to fight that we are not already guaranteed the victory!

  28. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    Ease – at ease, quiet, secure
    at ease, secure
    at ease, careless, wanton, arrogant subst
    security, pride, arrogance
    one at ease
    secure; in a bad sense

    We should desire for our relationship with God to continually grow. Once we become complacent with where we are, we will become careless and arrogant in our walk with God.
    Seek first the Kingdom of God and you will never become complacent!

  29. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    We can’t chillax!!! WOE UNTO US FOR WE KNOW NOT THE HOUR………HALELUJAH!!! IT’S NOW TIME!!!

  30. We cannot be wasting our time here on earth. The time here we have is preciously short and we need to making the best of it! Not wasting it on foolishness, but rather use the time for God! Focus on Him in everything we do! It doesn’t matter how important you or others may think you are, if you waste your time here on earth, you too will be judged harshly. We need to keep focus on God all of the time! The chapter in Proverbs today relates very well to Amos; it says:

    “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts. To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin. The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.”-Proverbs 21:2‭-‬5 KJV

    Praise the Lord for He is great! There is no one more worthy then Him! Praise the Lord!

  31. Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
    There is a similar voice in our day that wants to put far away the evil day of God’s judgement on this world. They are the scoffers that say all things continue as they were when we know that evil is waxing worse and worse. Yep that will be the lie in the end time, that the Christians are being extreme in their views. It’s really not that bad in our world they may say but we know differently. We are told to be ye also ready for nobody knows the day or the hour but we can know the season. Let’s prepare for the coming of the Lord!

  32. Josiah: 14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
    It is so much easier to obey God in the first place than to suffer the consequences. It is also better and easier to obey than to disobey. When we are in the Lord’s will what we do can be blessed. So, let us GO OBEY THE LORD and get a closer relationship with Him!

  33. You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation.
    Amos 6:6 NLT

    Why does nation care so much about themselves, and not what is going down in their nation. We are so selfish. When theres souls who need to be saved.

  34. Amos 6:11-14

  35. The Sovereign Lord has sworn by his own name, and this is what he, the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, says: “I despise the arrogance of Israel, and I hate their fortresses. I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies.”
    Amos 6:8 NLT

    Alwyas stay humble no matter how high you might go in HIS Kingdom. The higher we go the more humble we must stay. We haven’t made it until we are before His Throne.

  36. Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    We cannot be satisfied with our walks with God. I need to constantly desire and seek after his kingdom. When I become weak and fall I will not stay down but arise and be stronger than I ever been before. I have a purpose and I refuse to listen to the lies of the enemy.

  37. I have an area Coach who thinks she’s all that. One day she was in the wrong shoes and she felled . Because she believed she didn’t have to wear non slip shoes. She was in pain for something she could of avoided . Think of it in a spiritual level . Don’t get so spirturally high you start to think you are better than every One else . And you start putting on the wrong shoes . Because you will fall.

  38. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    When we as the church become complacent, we are in for some real trouble..

  39. You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation.
    Amos 6:6 NLT

    It’s not about us… there is a lost, hurting and dying world out there but we must take our eyes off of self and see the need that surrounds us. Pray that we can see the people with compassion like Jesus did and that he will gives us his burden for the lost.

  40. 7 Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.
    8 The Lord God hath sworn by himself, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

  41. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    2 Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

    3 Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

    4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

    5 That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

    Those are looked upon as doing well for themselves, who do well for their bodies; but we are here told what their ease is, and what their woe is. Here is a description of the pride, security, and sensuality, for which God would reckon. Careless sinners are every where in danger; but those at ease in Zion, who are stupid, vainly confident, and abusing their privileges, are in the greatest danger. Yet many fancy themselves the people of God, who are living in sin, and in conformity to the world. But the examples of others’ ruin forbid us to be secure. Those who are set upon their pleasures are commonly careless of the troubles of others, but this is great offence to God. Those who placed their happiness in the pleasures of sense, and set their hearts upon them, shall be deprived of those pleasures. Those who try to put the evil day far from them, find it nearest to them.

  42. 11 When the LORD gives the command, homes both great and small will be smashed to pieces.

    When the Lord gives a command, it will happen. There is nothing or no one that can stop it. Build your home on the foundation of God, teach your children the Word, and pray together. This shows God that you and your family love’s him.

  43. 9 And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

  44. “That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Woe to those that are so comfortable in their own places that they don’t see the need for new believers or fighting for souls. Woe to those become to distracted that they don’t see the important things in the kingdom.
