Amos 7

Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.

And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

The Lord repented for this: It shall not be, saith the Lord.

Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord God called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

Then said I, O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

The Lord repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord God.

Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

11 For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

12 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

13 But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.

14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

17 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

  1. Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit: And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
    Amos 7:14‭-‬15 KJV

The Lord was not looking for credentials when He called Amos to prophesy. Neither was He looking for training or ability. He was simply looking for someone who was faithful in the job He was given. God knew that Amos would apply the same work ethic to the Kingdom as he did to his farming and herding.

God always calls the busy to do His work. God called David out of the fields to anoint him king. God called Gideon while he was threshing wheat by the winepress. God called Elisha while he was plowing with 12 yoke of oxen. Peter and Andrew were fishing. James and John were mending nets. Matthew was collecting taxes, and Paul was carrying out orders from the high priest. God chooses the busy because they are the ones who are committed to getting things done. They are moved by duty and commitment, and they are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

If we want God to use us in greater ways, then we simply need to get busy doing whatever work we see needs to be done. God will call someone to preach who is content to clean the church toilets or to mow the church lawn. God will call someone to be used in the gifts who is faithful to be used in outreach or hospital or prison ministry.

Moreover, God more likely to promote someone who loves to serve than someone who loves to hear himself speak. As Rev. Godwin said on Sunday, service is the true worship. Similarly, James said, “I will show thee my faith by my works,” (2:18b). Thus, the best way up in God’s Kingdom is to be faithful with the jobs you’ve already been given to do.

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much…
    Luke 16:10 KJV

.The convincing, awakening word must be heard and heeded, as well as words of comfort and peace; for whether we hear or forbear, the word of God shall take effect. The Lord still proclaims mercy to men, but they often expect deliverance from such self-invented forms as make their condemnation sure. While they refuse to come to Christ and to seek mercy in and by him, that they may live, the fire of Divine wrath breaks forth upon them. Men may make an idol of the world, but will find it cannot protect.

  3. 1 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.

2 And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

God bears long, but he will not bear always with a provoking people. The remembrance of the mercies we formerly received, like the produce of the earth of the former growth, should make us submissive to the will of God, when we meet with disappointments in the latter growth. The Lord has many ways of humbling a sinful nation. Whatever trouble we are under, we should be most earnest with God for the forgiveness of sin. Sin will soon make a great people small. What will become of Israel, if the hand that should raise him be stretched out against him? See the power of prayer. See what a blessing praying people are to a land. See how ready, how swift God is to show mercy; how he waits to be gracious. Israel was a wall, a strong wall, which God himself reared as a defence to his sanctuary. The Lord now seems to stand upon this wall. He measures it; it appears to be a bowing, bulging wall. Thus God would bring the people of Israel to the trial, would discover their wickedness; and the time will come, when those who have been spared often, shall be spared no longer. But the Lord still calls Israel his people. The repeated prayer and success of the prophet should lead us to seek the Saviour.

  4. Then Amaziah sent orders to Amos: “Get out of here, you prophet! Go on back to the land of Judah, and earn your living by prophesying there! Don’t bother us with your prophecies here in Bethel. This is the king’s sanctuary and the national place of worship!” But Amos replied, “I’m not a professional prophet, and I was never trained to be one. I’m just a shepherd, and I take care of sycamore-fig trees. But the Lord called me away from my flock and told me, ‘Go and prophesy to my people in Israel.’ Now then, listen to this message from the Lord : “You say, ‘Don’t prophesy against Israel. Stop preaching against my people. ’
    Amos 7:12‭-‬16 NLT
People don’t want hear the truth the push Amos ways because they thought he was a crazy prophet and as the Bible false prophets will rise and we got get our minds and Soul in the word of God but GOD was warning Israel I read early in the chapter and it says GOD was showing visions of what he was going to do to Israel but I believe Amos for the people
Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
As you read more you see GOD showing him more visions Amos taking with GOD this mand me things this why we pray for our people the city of fort Worth ….
We read about Moses and how he prayed for his people
Then the people came to Moses and cried out, “We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take away the snakes.” So Moses prayed for the people.
    Numbers 21:7 NLT
Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord , and against thee; pray unto the Lord , that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
    Numbers 21:7 KJV
There are people who are going to put us away but the also going to be people who have a hunger for God

  5. He is saying, Jeroboam will soon be
killed , and the people of Israel will be sent
    away in exile”
    Amos 7:11 NLT

We all like to be prophesied good things, but when the profit prophesize something that is not pleasant, how do we take it? Do we examine ourselves and repent or pride get in our hearts and hate the preacher?

  6. Verses 14-15 MSG “But Amos stood up to Amaziah: “I never set up to be a preacher, never had plans to be a preacher. I raised cattle and I pruned trees. Then God took me off the farm and said, ‘Go preach to my people Israel.’” These verses speak to me about serving/service/servant. My Dad growing up would always say that he was never called to preach; but yet, he served as Pastor for about 15 years and I never really understood why he said that. My Dad was a carpenter all his life and actually physically built the church (our old church had burned down) that still stands to this day. Thank you Lord for not only giving me the revelation of your scriptures; but, giving me a beautiful example of how to serve, no matter what the call or need is. Thy Kingdom Come.

  7. 14 Then Amos answered, and said to An Amaziah, I was no prophet, nor was I a son of a prophet, but I was a sheephearder, and a tender of sycamore fruit. Then the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said to me ,go prophesy to My people Israel.

  8. 7:14,15 THen answered Amos, and said to Amazia h, I was no prophet neither was I a prophets son, but I was an herdsman, and a gatherer of syconore fruitAnd the Kord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
    ———
Job9:12 Behold, he snatched away; who can restrain or turn Him back? Who will say to Him, what are you doing?

  9. 14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

It doesn’t take a prophet to deliver what God is saying, but it does take obedience and order. God will never go outside of the order that he is set in place but he will also use any vessel that is available and is faithful to him already. God is loving and enduring but is not tolerant of evil, in this scripture God is using a humble servant to deliver a word to an evil people that are out of order. Sometimes we mistake our own in inhibitions for the voice of God thinking that God is trying to use us to speak over a priest or a prophet, but God does not go out of the order that he has set in place. We must be careful when we believe we hear from God and to evaluate the fruits of it with the things that are already in order. I love that goddess measuring them in evaluating their actions based off his will, if the Israelites had been serving him wholeheartedly they would have had nothing to been prophesied against went had a completely different prophecy. We don’t have to worry about the Judgment of God if we are doing what the will of God has called us to do and being measured can be a good sign

  10. Amos7:12-13 (English Amp) Also Amaziah said to Amos, O you seer, go ! Flee back to the land of Judah [ your own country], and eat your bread and live out your profession as a prophet there [ as I perform my duties here]. [13] But do not prophesy any Bethel, for it is the kingdom. [ Luke 10:10 -12] But whenever you go into a town and they do not receive and accept and welcome you, Go into its streets and say ,Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we are wiping off against you; yet known of God has come near you. Here God is showing Amos more visions. Go prophesy to this city.

  11. And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” I answered, “A plumb line.” And the Lord replied, “I will test my people with this plumb line. I will no longer ignore all their sins.
    Amos 7:8 NLT

Lord Jesus I thank you for shaping us and molding us into the vessels you call us to be. I thank you for testing us against your plumb-line and making sure we are aligned with the Word of God

  12. 16. Now then, listen to this message from the Lord: “YOU SAY,
‘Don’t prophesy against Israel. Stop preaching against my people.’

    17. But this is what the LORD SAYS:
‘Your wife will become a prostitute in this city, and your sons and daughters will be killed. Your land will be divided up, and you yourself will die in a foreign land. And the people of Israel will certainly become captives in exile, far from their homeland.'” NLT

    Acts 5:29
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. KJV

  13. This passage speaks so well of how God moves amongst his people to anoint those he calls to speak. ‘Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit: And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.’

Amos didn’t have a pedigree or even an education to rely upon, yet God called him to be a prophet to a nation that no longer wanted to hear God’s call. They even went as far as to ask him to sojourn into Judah and ‘prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.’ Bethel, the place where their forefather watched angels ascend and descend from heaven was now considered their earthly king’s court… God’s Word was second place to those of a man.

This is why God doesn’t look upon those things that man would choose to look upon. Sometimes the ideas and fashions and compromises of the day are not in line with what God has desired for his people. He’d rather choose someone who was used to tending and carrying for his flock than someone worried about what people may think of what God has chosen to speak. The church need to continue to declare the fullness of God’s truth regardless of the opposition it may face!

  14. Amos 7:14-15 (NLT)
    14) But Amos replied, I’m not a professional prophet, and I was never trained to be one. I’m just a shepherd, and I take care of sycamore-fig trees.
    15) But the LORD called me away from my flock and told me, Go and prophecy to my people Israel.

Amos was “just an ordinary person.” He was a shepherd and the one who took care of sycamore-fig trees. BUT the LORD CALLED him to GO and Prophecy to His people Israel. He was obedient, and he went!

God is looking for “just ordinary people” who will be Obedient and Answer the CALL to GO and Prophecy to the city of Fort Worth.

  15. 7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

9 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

We must pass the test !!!!!

    Quote from Forerunner Commentary
    Amos 7:7-9
“In construction, the plumb line tests whether what was erected is perpendicular to the square, that is, if it is straight up and down, if it is upright. It provides a standard against which one can measure what he has built. Metaphorically, when God draws near with the plumb line, He is looking for those people who are living and abiding in His grace and His law. The Israelites’ moral standards had degenerated, so their religious profession was not verified by the right kind of works. They were not upright; they failed the test.

Amos has no opportunity to intercede at this point. God will no longer relent. “I will not pass by them anymore” means that God would not overlook their sins any longer. And, if He will not pass by them, He must pass through them. The plumb line shows that He will pass through “with the sword” in judgment; His patience and forgiveness have finally ended. He could no longer defer the punishment for their sins—the time had come to destroy them.”

  16. Verse 11 speaks about how Israel will be led away and become captives. I see this passage as showing harmony with the New Testament when Paul spoke about the Lord turning unbelievers over to a reprobate mind. My point is that this scripture is trying to let us see God’s perspective , and how he responds to the rejection of his precepts. The Lord’s reaction is to these attitudes results in his turning over those individuals to bondage by Satan, because they refused to obey his word.

  17. “The LORD said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I am setting a plumb line [as a standard] Among My people Israel [showing the defectiveness of the nation, requiring judgment]. I shall not spare them any longer. [The door of mercy is shut.] “And the [idolatrous] high places of Isaac (Israel) will be devastated and deserted, And the sanctuaries of Israel will be in ruins. Then I shall rise up against the house of Jeroboam with the sword [and destroy the monarchy].””
    ‭‭AMOS‬ ‭7:8-9‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We live by the standard and measurements of God. And that standard is God Word. We can’t remove or bend the standard to fix what we want to be acceptable. If we try to do that we will lose in the end. Fall in love with His Word.

““Who will feel sorry for you, Jerusalem? Who will weep for you? Who will even bother to ask how you are? You have abandoned me and turned your back on me,” says the Lord. “Therefore, I will raise my fist to destroy you. I am tired of always giving you another chance. I will winnow you like grain at the gates of your cities and take away the children you hold dear. I will destroy my own people, because they refuse to change their evil ways.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭15:5-7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  18. THY KINGDOM COME
    STRAIGHT AND NARROW

7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

We live in an era of sloppy gospel, crooked salvation and misaligned concepts of The Kingdom of GOD. The LORD JESUS has set an eternal plumbline for the world to live by. HIS WORD. The BIBLE. The HOLY Scriptures.

A plumb line is a sure and perfect way to a straight line, a straight wall. Builders use a plumb line to make sure their walls are built straight.

JESUS refers to the need for a plumb line in our lives:

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

We must use the plumb line (The WORD of GOD) on everything we do, to ensure that we are walking on the narrow way and line up with the STRAIT GATE.

  19. iLove the Kingdom
4Then the Sovereign Lord showed me another vision. I saw him preparing to punish his people with a great fire. The fire had burned up the depths of the sea and was devouring the entire land. 5Then I said, “O Sovereign Lord, please stop or we will not survive, for Israel is so small.”
6Then the Lord relented from this plan, too. “I will not do that either,” said the Sovereign Lord.

Wow, God showed several visions to the Prophet, but each time the Prophet would make intercession for the land and God would basically say, “Ok, I won’t do that either.”

This let’s me know that God listens to our intercession when we cry out to him. The sad thing in this chapter is the King eventually rebukes the prophet and thereby brings judgement upon himself, his family, and the land.

  20. 14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

  21. 15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

As he followed the flock, that’s when he was called to Go. Stay submitted and remain a willing servant that God can use!

  22. Then Amaziah sent orders to Amos: “Get out of here, you prophet! Go on back to the land of Judah, and earn your living by prophesying there! Don’t bother us with your prophecies here in Bethel. This is the king’s sanctuary and the national place of worship!”
    Amos 7:12‭-‬13 NLT
These are tge times that we are currently living in. Many of us have rebelled against the man of GOD and have reaped the consequences of that!!! I am thankful that The LORD has brought me to a place of repentance!!! We must continue to preach the gospel of Jesus to our city, prodigals and all. Repentance will and can bring you a merciful God!!!
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
    2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV
    Hace mercy o. Our nation!

  23. God gave Amos visions that were warnings for Israel. God gave him a vision of locusts. The locusts would devour everything in the land. Amos cried out to the Lord and asked Him to forgive and asked how God’s people could survive after such devastation? God heard Amos and reversed this punishment He was going to send (“The Lord relented and revoked the sentence: It shall not take place said the Lord, and He was eased and comforted concerning it.” Amos 7:3 Amplified)

  24. 8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
9 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

The people had been warned time and time again but their judgement is now at hand. And we know we are in the end time with the Lord’s return at hand. This is the time to reach the souls we can for the kingdom. Drastic times require drastic measures and whatever we see needs to be done to reach someone, we must be willing to do it and prevent them from being lost.

  25. A Standard has been set.

When we think of a standard we often think of it as-: something set up and established by authority as a rule for the measure of quantity, weight, extent, value, or quality. We always think of a standards of something that we measure up too.
But, For God’s Kingdom to reign in our world, we must look at a Stadard as- something established by authority, custom, or general consent as a model or example :
WE the Church must be an example to others. WE must Establish authority in our communities. We must lead and guild those who are lost to the oneness of Jesus Christ. We must Let His Kingdom Come.

  26. 7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

Our Plumbline is God’s Word, God’s Spirit and the voice of authority in our lives. God uses all these means to keep our feet planted in truth. We cannot please man and please God. We must choose in our heart to live according to the word of God. Too many people are following their own interpretation of God’s Word and not aligning it through His Spirit. God’s word and Spirit will never contradict each other, they will always be in agreement. He is not going to say one thing in His word, and then the Spirit of God tell you something totally different. If that is the case, it’s not the Spirit of God that you’re listening to, it’s the human spirit.

Three questions to always ask about every situation – 1) What does God’s word say about it 2) What does the Spirit within me say about it 3) What does my Pastor say about it. These three should agree. God is not the author of confusion.

  27. 15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Remain faithful to the Kingdom of God, serving where you are and submitted to your pastor and God will call you to go and do more!

  28. 14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Here a again God shows that he is able and willing to use anyone or anything for his kingdom. Here by Amos words he was no prophet or a prophet’s son, and God took him and sent him to prophesy. May I bless the Lord, and look forward to the testimony of the many vessels God has sent.

  29. Amos Amos 7:7-17
    A Plumbline
7.Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand. And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel:
I will not again pass by them anymore:

The purpose of the plumbline is to illustrate how far Israel has strayed from God’s righteousness, and that it must be destroyed.

Isaiah 28:17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and the righteousness to the Plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the Refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow The Hiding Place.

Where do you measure up on the Plumbline??
God’s Plumb line will bring judgment.

  30. 8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

It is not surprising to me that God will set a plumbline after all a plumbline it’s used to set things straight. Matt 8:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

  31. 14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Amos began explaining that he didn’t have a title or maybe in his heart or mind knew that he was unworthy or appreciative of a position because he was humble. A title doesn’t tell GOD what HE can use you in. He is The Way Maker!!! Even when we can’t see it or understand it!!! You know we like to say that GOD only uses the humble but I bet Pharoah wasn’t that humble and GOD’S chosen would beg to differ, which they did, they cried out. .

  32. Then the Sovereign Lord showed me another vision. I saw him preparing to punish his people with a great fire. The fire had burned up the depths of the sea and was devouring the entire land. Then I said, “O Sovereign Lord , please stop or we will not survive, for Israel is so small.” Then the Lord relented from this plan, too. “I will not do that either,” said the Sovereign Lord .
    Amos 7:4‭-‬6 NLT

This is why we need a man of God in our life. His prayers don’t only influence God’s decisions for us but they also keep us from God’s wrath and destruction. I’m pretty sure that with out their prayers a lot of us wouldn’t be here but because our man of God is in constant prayer for us we are covered.

  33. 14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

It doesn’t matter who you are. God can use you wherever you are despite of your past or lineage. If you make yourself available and are diligent about working the Lord can and will use you.

    From today’s proverb:

Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people.
    Proverbs 22:29 NLT

What better thing is there than to serve the King of kings.

  34. 51“You stubborn people! You are heathenl at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you!

We all can ask ourselves this question too, “how stubborn are you”. Do you readily accept the Word of God. or do you resist it? We are stubborn by nature, but how long are you gonna resist God’s word. Let’s be humble, hear the voice of God, read the Word, and praise God.

  35. 14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Jesus came wrapped in swaddling clothes in a manger. His purpose was greater than the place He was born in. So it doesn’t matter if we are sons or daughter of royalty. Yet, He is requiring us to have a teachable spirit.

“I followed the flock” key word is follow. If we are willing to follow we too came become unstoppable.

  36. 7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

Excellent message from Pastor Watts tonight about the plumbline and staying in line with the will and desire of God. God help us to stay straight under the plumbline so the doors that you want to open do so and the doors you want shut do so.

  37. 8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

Gos help us to realign our lives to you and your kingdom. If it doesnt line up to your word help us to seek your wisdom and not find out that we made the wrong choice and messed up the plan of God for our lives.

  38. 13 But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.

Be careful telling God’s messenger to stop preaching (whether it be Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher or Still Small Voice of the Lord) because there will be disastrous consequences. Amos told Amaziah, God is the one who called me, I didn’t put myself in this position so you are rejecting Him not me. 17 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

  39. When God speaks are we really listening? This is a question we must ask ourselves from time to time. It is easy to get distracted by the things around us, but it is even more important to stay focused. The devil loves it when we take our attention off the will of God. If we can stay focus, God has great plans for us.

  40. “Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand. And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭7:7-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬
The Lord stood on a Wall made by a Plumb line. But He was holding a plumb line.. I believe we’re all leading someone in someway, but before we lead anyone and give direction we have to hold that plumb line out on a plumb foundation. This might sound familiar but the thing is the Lord was standing on a Plumb wall before laying out a Plumb line for the people. It’s our foundation and our foundation or our Plumb line is the Word of God. I can see it held high when I speak this tonight. We have to make sure we’re Plumb YES but we must make sure we stay on Plumb grounds!
    Be blessed
    Jesus name

  41. 17 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

To have everything you love stripped from you, and to die in a place that you despise, so that everyone you fought for can become slaves… This is a rough way to be thrown into ministry, and to be thought to trust Jesus for everything…

  42. 14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

God can use anyone to fulfill His will. It doesn’t matter if you’re the President of the United States or the man in the small house in a neighborhood. God can use anyone.

  43. 7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

Do we measure up to Gods standards? We all fall short, but thanks God for grace. Not permission to sin but a period to get right.

Sanctify us God for the work that is ahead, that our lives align to your word!

  44. Righteous men and women of God have more power with God than they often realize. In this chapter Amos was able to pray and change the mind of God multiple times. We can pray and influence things that occur in our situations.

  45. Josiah: 16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.
It is not wise to rise up against a prophet of God, man of God, and the list goes on. He tried removing the prophet and got prophesied against in the next verse. When God places someone in our life we should listen to what they say. So, let us GO HEAR WHAT THUS SAITH THE LORD!
