Amos 8

Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

14 They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

  1. Then the Sovereign Lord showed me another vision. In it I saw a basket filled with ripe fruit. “What do you see, Amos?” he asked. I replied, “A basket full of ripe fruit.” Then the Lord said, “Like this fruit, Israel is ripe for punishment! I will not delay their punishment again.
    Amos 8:1‭-‬2 NLT

Jesus saith unto them… Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
    John 4:34‭-‬35 KJV

Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
    Luke 10:2 KJV

A good farmer always knows when to harvest. He knows that fruit picked too soon is often spit out because of it’s hard and bitter taste. He also knows that if the fruit falls to the ground unpicked, it will spoil, become infested, and stink. He has learned that there is a short window for harvest, and he needs to be fully prepared to do all the work necessary in the little bit of time that the window is open.

In the above verses, the Lord speaks of two harvests. In one instance, He says that there is a field of souls ripe for harvesting, but there is a shortage of laborers willing to do the work. He is grieved by the possibility that the harvest would spoil in the fields due to a lack of laborers, and He implores His followers to recognize that it is time for harvesting and to become involved before that window closes.

In Amos, however, God tells of a harvest of judgment. As a loving Father, He had waited until the very last minute, hoping that something in Israel would change, but they were unrepentant. They were more concerned with using people than with showing compassion. They went through the motions of worship but cared nothing for lost and hurting humanity, and they were more hungry for material gain than for doing the work of the Lord. Their window of opportunity had closed and they were completely unaware of it.

These two examples would suggest that there is a window of harvest open to us all, and those not involved as laborers in the harvest of souls run the risk of becoming those ripe for the harvest of judgment. We can only have one love: His Kingdom or our own. Those who build their own kingdoms while neglecting His Harvest may find themselves on the wrong side of the window when it closes. God forbid that any in our city should fall to the ground unpicked because we were too self-involved to become laborers in His harvest.

  2. 1 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

3 And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

4 Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

5 Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

6 That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

7 The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

Amos saw a basket of summer fruit gathered, and ready to be eaten; which signified, that the people were ripe for destruction, that the year of God’s patience was drawing towards a conclusion. Such summer fruits will not keep till winter, but must be used at once. Yet these judgments shall not draw from them any acknowledgement, either of God’s righteousness or their own unrighteousness. Sinners put off repentance from day to day, because they think the Lord thus delays his judgments.

  3. Verse 11 AMP “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “When I will send hunger over the land, Not hunger for bread or a thirst for water, But rather [a hunger] for hearing the words of the Lord.”

Psalm 119:9-16 MSG “How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word. I’m single-minded in pursuit of you; don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted. I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt. Be blessed, God; train me in your ways of wise living. I’ll transfer to my lips all the counsel that comes from your mouth; I delight far more in what you tell me about living than in gathering a pile of riches. I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you, I attentively watch how you’ve done it. I relish everything you’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a word of it.”

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 MSG “Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.”

  4. 2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.
3 And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

What makes God so merciful and so great is the fact that he is just and patient and loving and kind through every mistake that we make. But what makes him a just judge is that he looks at the fruit that we bear not necessarily the actions we take. Repenting is like pulling bad seeds out of us that stops us from producing bad fruit. The fruit that we bear is results of the majority of our actions. It is one of the end factors of the sum of our decisions. The decisions that we make every day determined what’s going to happen for us in the future, and learning the seeds that we see now are what we reap later. God had given the Israelites multiple chance to repent and turn from their ways and pull the seeds out of the ground from which they had planted but being that they refused it produced bad fruit, and being the just judge that he is had to judge them According to that fruit.
The Lord charged atom to keep and tend to the garden of Eden, and when they ate of the tree that God had told them not to he remove them from the garden and then cursed the ground telling Adam that he needed to work by the sweat of his brow stating that thorns and thistles would need to be removed from whatever he planted. We must be careful that our charge from God has not changed. We’ve been called to tend to the ground that he gives us Authority to live on. We must remove thorns and thistles from every decision that we make so that we may produce the fruit that God is trying to produce in the spirit.

  5. Amos 8:9-10 (English Amp) And in that day, says the Lord God, I will cause the sun to go down at noon , and I will darken the earth on the broad daylight. [10] And I will turn your feasts into mourning and your songs into lamentation, and I will cause sackcloth to be upon all loins and baldness [ for mourning for an only son, the end of it as a bitter day. [ Ezek.32: 7-10] And When I have extinguished you, I will cover the heavens [ of Egypt] and make their stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud and the moon shall not give her light. For the day of the Lord is coming, Lord help us to get our lives in order of your kingdom not this world. No pride or riches will be in your kingdom. Lord plant your word in our hearts and minds. Help us get ready for your coming !

  6. 11. “The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine on the land- not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the LORD.

12.People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.

    13. Beautiful girls and strong young men will grow faint in that day, thirsting for the LORD’s word. NLT

    Psalm 119:
    1. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.

    2. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

    10. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

    11. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

    16. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

    17. Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.

  7. Acts 8:11-14

  9. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God , that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord : And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord , and shall not find it.
    Amos 8:11‭-‬12 KJV

As i look around me, many people have closed their ears to the word of GOD that it is only truth!!!
Nothing else is important or should ne important but His word for your life. His word will lead and guide you if you allow it. There wil be consequences for those whom have heard and rejected truth.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    John 14:6 KJV
    No other way of living.

  10. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

    Psalms 119:
10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

If we keep the word in our hearts, no man can take it away. In the last days we will have to know that we know His word. Instant in season, and ready to give an account.

  11. Amos 8

11-12 “Oh yes, Judgment Day is coming!”
These are the words of my Master God.
“I’ll send a famine through the whole country.
It won’t be food or water that’s lacking, but my Word.
People will drift from one end of the country to the other,
roam to the north, wander to the east.
They’ll go anywhere, listen to anyone,
hoping to hear God’s Word—but they won’t hear it.

I believe this is already happening. Young men and women and even the older generations begin to seek for other things getting their eyes off what God’s plan feslly is. To desire the World and not the Word. When our hunger for the things of this world begins to become stronger than our desires for the Word our life takes a terrible plunge into the works of the flesh. They’ll go to every service and really not hear the Word. Soon just as Isreal they will wonder from place to place person to person looking for something they have lost and become so disillusioned thinking they have heard a word but in reality it will be what the world has been wanting them to hear.

    ternational Version
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.

God wanted Isreal to return to their first love Him. The God who had much planned for them but their eyes looked to the world
We must continue to replace the world with the Word not allow anything or anyone to crowd out or change our hunger for truth not just the acts 2:38 truth but the harvest around us. We must put on the mind of Christ.

Replacing the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:19-21 King James Version (KJV)

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:22 New International Version (NIV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Lord let my hunger continue to be for You and help me not to search a word from any place but in your true Word . Not the World but the Word. In Jesus Nane.

  12. Amos 8:2, 4-7 (AMP)
    2) And He said, Amos, what do you see? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then the LORD said to me, The end has come for My people Israel. I will spare them no longer (for the nation is ripe for judgment).
    4) Hear this, you who trample down the needy, and do away with the poor of the land,
    5) saying, When will the New Moon (festival) be over So that we may sell grain, And the Sabbath ended so that we may open the wheat market, Making the ephah (measure) smaller and the shekel bigger (that is, selling less for a higher price) And to cheat by falsifying the scales,
    6) So that we may buy the poor (as slaves) for silver (since they are unable to support themselves) And the needy for a pair of sandals, And that we may sell the leftovers of the wheat (as if it were a good grade of grain)?
    7) the LORD has sworn (an oath) by the pride of Jacob, Surely I shall never forget (nor leave unpunished) any of their (rebellious) acts.

If you think GOD has forgotten, here’s a little reminder: HE hasn’t!!
There is coming a day of Judgment, and we all will be judged according to our Works. (How we treat others (right or wrong), how we act (truthfully or deceitfully), what we say (every idle word), what we think or feel in our heart (God knows the thoughts and the intents of the heart).
Ecclesiastes 12:14 says, “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”

  13. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

My heart aches for the Lost this morning. It aches because there are so many Lost people out there that WANT Jesus or know they NEED Jesus but they can’t find him anywhere. There are people out there searching for Him like a lost dog, but they don’t even know where to look, and then there’s people like us that know about salvation and know the Word of God but what are we doing. Some of us are worried about position on their Job or in the Church, some are worried about relationships with their significant other rather than their relationship with God, some are worried about what everyone else doing. The thing is everyday we’re not reaching the Lost is a day we’ve focused on ourselves. I’m not saying don’t do that. But there’s a Plumbline we must stay under and there are priorities and there is a starving world hungry for the Word of God out there.
Let Jesus shine bright through you. Let Him shine and don’t be ashamed by no means at all.
    Let’s reach this 🌎 World
    World – L =Word L+ove = Love
Let’s Love the World (Lost) by sharing the Word
    Let’s Go in Jesus name

  14. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

  15. Well, this sounds like old testament prophecy of when Christ was crucified by the jews and the Lord grafted in the gentiles. Apparently, the Lord is telling them He knows they are not going to believe that Christ is true Messiah. This the famine of believing the truth.

  16. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.
13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

My Lord, what a horrible place to live in. Yet,the reality is millions of people are daily seeking and searching for something not realizing that the only thing that can fill them in God! Drugs, achohol, possessions, and companionship leaves them empty and still searching.

Yet thechurch has the answer and we must go out and tell the World how good God is. Leading them away from their sons and into His marvouks light

  17. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the Lord , but they will not find it. Beautiful girls and strong young men will grow faint in that day, thirsting for the Lord ’s word.
    Amos 8:12‭-‬13 NLT
God let your words be know in my heart

  18. 9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

  19. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

We as God’s people must treat each other with love, respect, care for one another. We must do it among each other so we may then show those in the world that they are also loved. My dad used to say that you cant show love to others if you don’t love yourself. This time God shows Amos a basket of fruits and then goes on to talk about the horrible fruits of His children’s actions. How much longer are we going to sit like a frog on a log andnot notice that this is the time He is speaking about. The day of judgement is closed and we do nothing? It is time that we as members of His body stand guard, watch for the time is near, give notice to everyone we see for the time is near, speak the Truth while we still can for the time is near and like Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Our pastor takes the time to always give us a banquet of His word; but some will sit and not eat . Open your eyes for the day is coming when we will be so hungry of His word that we wish we would of eaten at every service. Let us never go hungry again, may we eat His word every opportunity we have . Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts. LETS EAT!!!!!

  20. “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord G od , “When I will send hunger over the land, Not hunger for bread or a thirst for water, But rather [a hunger] for hearing the words of the Lord .
    AMOS 8:11 AMP

The time is now time for the church to rise up, the people are hungry and thirst for the word of God now. Revival is now, praying is now, souls winning its now, Outreach is now, if not us now, then it will be too late.

  21. THY KINGDOM COME
    SEEK FIRST

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

The tragic end for the chosen people that would not listen. It appears as a basket of FRUIT. Representing the time of HARVEST, meaning the LORD will always bear HIS FRUIT or keep HIS WORD.

The Prophet Isaiah declared to all generations:

Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

In a society with no respect for life, love or liberty we are challenged and even PRESSED daily to seek the LORD and we will FIND HIM in HIS WORD everyday. I pray that this chapter will be a STRONG warning to those who half hearted follow JESUS and occasionally seek HIS WORD to REPENT and SEEK HIM with our whole HEART.

    The Prophet Jeremiah declates:

Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Seek The WORD of GOD for all instructions, answers and directions.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray

  22. iLove the Kingdom
‘You can’t wait for the Sabbath day to be over and the religious festivals to end so you can get back to cheating the helpless. You measure out grain with dishonest measures and cheat the buyer with dishonest scales. And you mix the grain you sell with chaff swept from the floor. Then you enslave poor people for one piece of silver or a pair of sandals.”Amos 8:5-6

This sounds like America today. I remember when I was a child there was a law called a “Blue Law”. This was when stores were not allowed to be opened on Sunday. It was like a ghost town in West Texas on Sundays with little traffic and few stores permitted to be open. But how things have changed. Now folks do not even respect the Sabbath and America’s corporations do shady things in order to make more money. Now I know that some folks think the government is putting “additives” into the grain as a conspiracy, however according to this verse folks have been putting “additives” into grain for thousands of years…not as a conspiracy, but because they are greedy.

  23. Are we spoiled or blessed?

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

Currently we have access to God’s word in nearly every translation at the touch of our fingers. http://www.bible.com has 30+ translations for free. I would predict we each have multiple physical bibles and concordances in our homes. I literally cannot imagine not being able to read a scripture any time that I want to.

We’ve been given the responsibility to guard our heart and to keep track of the things we hide inside it. So, what’s in there? Anger? Lust? Ugly images from TV, the movies, or the web? Are we harboring bitterness? Greed? Are you envious of others? If we’re struggling with these things maybe it’s because we have more of the world’s wisdom in our heart than the true wisdom of God.

Psalm 119:10-11 “I have tried my best to find you don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you”

  24. 13 Beautiful girls and strong young men will grow faint in that day, thirsting for the Lord’s word. (NLT)

It’s already happening… I hear young people all the time complaining about how hard life is, they’re weary and feel like there’s a void in their life but they can’t quite put their finger on what it is. But we know! We know it’s Jesus and His mighty Word!! We are called to be His laborers. Share the gospel and share the good things God has done for you – people are thirsty and want to hear Gods word!

  25. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

What a terrible day that will be when souls can no longer find the word of God. We cannot afford to take this precious truth for granted but must share it to all that will hear in it. We must stand apart and be the light Jesus desires us to be in our words, actions, attitude, and dress. We are ever so closer to that day than ever before and cannot afford to blend in with the world!

  26. Verse 11 says he will send a famine of hearing the word of the Lord and unless we have hid his word in our hearts and have taken the time to read our Bibles, where will we be? This world wants to crowd out the things of God as it stands today, so who’s report will we believe if there is this type of famine in our day? We must be able to stand for and on the word of God as we reach out to others in these last days. His word is more precious than gold: it strengthens, encourages, comforts and also fights the enemy. It leads and guides and we need to digest it everyday.

  27. 5 You can’t wait for the Sabbath day to be over and the religious festivals to end so you can get back to cheating the helpless… NLT

I read this and had to ask myself have I ever got caught up in the motions of Sunday waiting for it to be over, to get back to doing what I wanted to do? Of course, I have, I’m sure we can all say at some point in our life we couldn’t wait for Sunday to be over so we could go do (fill in the blank). Now I don’t think many of us wanted to get past Sunday to go out cheating and stealing.

But, if we only went through the motions to get through Sunday, did we cheat the hurting that came to church seeking? Did we rush through it all and miss the chance to minister to someone lost? Something to consider although we may not be physically cheating, we are taking away the chance for someone to enter the presence of God?

We can never take a Sunday for granted, scratch that, we cannot afford to take ANY DAY for granted! God will place someone in our path that is searching and seeking Him, and if we are too busy with our own agendas we may miss it.

Instead of “can’t wait till Sunday is over” we should have a “Can’t Wait Till Sunday” mentality.

Meaning; not only can I not wait for Sunday to come to party at POFW, but I can’t wait to spread the gospel only on Sundays, its a daily thing!

  28. 2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

We as the body of Christ must recognize the seasons in peoples lives. Are they open to the gospel? Will they receive His word gladly? Are they willing to commit? Our duty is to share the love and gospel of Jesus. His duty is to draw them and work through them once they receive the gospel. He cannot perform His duties, if we don’t perform ours. We must open our eyes, discern the souls that are “ripe” for harvest and harvest them with love and compassion. After the season of “fruit” is over then comes the judgement of the Lord spoke about in today’s chapter. We must do all we can before judgement comes, because then it’s too late to reach the lost.

  29. And those who swear by the shameful idols of Samaria— who take oaths in the name of the god of Dan and make vows in the name of the god of Beersheba — they will all fall down, never to rise again.”
    Amos 8:14 NLT

God will bring judgement again, for one final time. Everyone will know that Jesus Christ is the One True Living God and bow to His Sovereign Majesty. Lord, open the hearts of people who have rejected you so they may have a chance for repentance and to know the beauty of Your Holiness. In Jesus name. THY KINGDOM COME

  30. 1 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

What a terrible thing not to be able to hear the word of God. I cant imagine being deprived of such a necessary benefit. We must treasure the word of God and its easy accessibility because it may not be like that forever.

  31. 3 And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

Like its normal…… That is the state of this world, everything dark and full of sin is the norm. We are to be set apart, we are not the norm….

  32. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

The people had no appetite for the Word of God, they no longer had a desire to hear His word preached and because of that, God said He would take away every opportunity to even hear His word. This is the problem many people face today. We have the Word of God, there are many anointed men and women of God that desire to preach His word. But there’s a lack of appetite. People will search anywhere else besides scripture for the answer to their problem. But if we would get out there and lead them to His word, first by being an example of doing this, and second by simply showing them their answer in the Bible.
There will be a day when His Word will no longer be available at our fingertips, will we have enough scripture hidden away in our hearts to keep us saved? Let us help others know His word before that time comes.

  33. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.
13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.
14 They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

A great hunger for the Word Of God. Hallelujah. This is why we must eat the word every day.

  34. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

Notice the verse says there will be a famine for HEARING the words of the Lord. The Hebrew word for hearing is shama. It is the same word used in Deut. 6:4, HEAR O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. The word means to hear intelligently (often with implication of attention, obedience).
So the famine will not be of the Word but of those willing to hear and obey it!
God give us obedient hearts that line up with your plumb line!

  35. Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

  36. 11“The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the LORD.

What a terrible time that would be. Calling out to the Lord, and no response. Looking for God’s Word, but not to be found. Sounds like government taking over, eliminating God from everywhere. I’m glad, God can still hear my cries and prayers, and he blesses me and my family.

  37. The Basket of Summer Fruit
The vision of the summer fruit shows that Israel is ripe for judgment, which will come very soon.

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, said the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst water, but of the hearing the words of the Lord:

Psalm 74:9 We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.

2 Chronicles 15:3 Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law. But when they in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.

  38. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land,
not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

Help us not to turn to you for our help not this world. Thos world is not my home Im just passing through. This cannot offer what God has to offer.

  39. 1 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

A basket of new fresh Holy Ghost poured out upon every soul! A basket full of fresh anointing, and a basket full of blessings comeing my way in Jesus’s name!

  40. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

Hunger it’s what drives people to go to extreme measures. It is a vital necessity thus people will begin to search.

  41. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

People get desperate when there is a need in their lives! Many do the impossible to satisfy their own flesh but what about our spirituality? We are all spending eternity either in heaven or hell! We cant let our hunger for God die! Just how we daily have to eat we have to eat spiritually also! We can’t expect to fight demons and read the Word once a month! We can’t just can’t do nothing and let the enemy win!! We are more than conquerors, we win, we are victorious!! For that we have the power of Jesus inside of us and can’t be ashamed to preach it and teach it to others!! We must reach, reach, reach, and keep reaching in Jesus Name!!

  42. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

The next time this happens, it will be after the rapture and church. The sudden disappearance of millions of people will cause for the churches to be for cover everyone and they panic, frenzy looking to find all those Believers.

And then a sudden hunger to hear for the preacher will be a common thing. By then it will be too late, we will be in the face with the groomsmen.

  43. So many people in the world are so busy, and at times it even seem that we of the church become so occupied with the things of life that we just aren’t as engaged as we desire. In the midst of all that ‘business’, this is one of those passages that should cause us to pause. ‘Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.’ Such a terrible time to consider, and even the more so for those who just aren’t spiritually prepared.

An earthly famine is bad enough, with consequences that are often far reaching and even devastating to those who just don’t have enough set aside to make it through. Imagine those times and places where people is going through a spiritual famine in the land, when those seeking for the word are no longer able to walk down to the nearest church and receive it. We get so used to our liberties that perhaps take for granted that we’ll always have the opportunity in this nation, but it isn’t just in the famine that we may need a spiritual reserve set aside. When the trials come, when tribulation arrives, when you find yourself accosted on every side, you may wish you hadn’t been so busy that you didn’t take the time to drink your fill when the well was overflowing. The psalmist says it so well when he declares, be still and know that I am God!

  44. “The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I thank God for his mercy and forgivenes. He has forgotten the sins of my past because his blood has been applied to my life and I am now a new creature in Christ.

  45. Josiah: 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
When there is a famine of the Word the people of God should push even stronger. As we draw nearer to God’s coming there is going to a great revival we just have to be ready to labour in it no matter the cost. So, let us GO LABOR IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD IN JESUS NAME!
