Micah 5

Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.

And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.

And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.

Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.

10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:

11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:

12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:

13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.

14 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.

15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.

  1. He will stand and SHEPHERD them in the STRENGTH of Yahweh, in the majestic name of Yahweh His God. They will LIVE SECURELY, for then His greatness will extend to the ends of the earth. He will be their PEACE…
    Micah 5:4‭-‬5a HCSB

Micah is discussing the coming reign of the Messiah over Israel. However, those who have been born again and have made Jesus the LORD of their lives don’t have to wait until the second coming to experience the promises of God.

    • He is our SHEPHERD now.
A Shepherd leads the flock as their guide. He makes sure they are well watered and fed, and He stands guard over the flock in times of dark and danger. He goes after those who wander and fights for those under attack.

    • We can have His STRENGTH now.
He gives power to the faint and makes us strong even in our weaknesses. He renews our strength when we wait upon Him, and makes us strong in the power of His might. We can do ALL THINGS through Christ, who strengthens us.

    • We can LIVE SECURELY now.
What times we are afraid, we can trust in Him. He hides us under the shadow of His wings. When the waters threaten to overflow us, He sets us up upon a rock.

And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea,…and thou shalt take thy rest in safety. Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid…
    Job 11:18‭-‬19a KJV

    • He is our PEACE right now.
Be careful for nothing; but…let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
    Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 KJV

Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means…
    2 Thessalonians 3:16 KJV

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
    Isaiah 26:3 KJV

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
    1 Peter 5:7 KJV

  2. 2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.

4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

The Only Peace Maker, The Only Completuon Of The God Head, The Only That is the Beginning and The End IS JESUS! There is no other God like Jesus!!!

  3. 12 Your carved images I will also cut off, and your sacred pillars from your midst, you shall no more worship the work of your hands, I will pluck your wooden images from your midst, thus I will destroy your cities. And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury on the nation’s that have not heard.

  4. 2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

He is speaking of the Messiah to come and how he will reign. Jesus is revealed in every book of the Bible and the promises of God are fulfilled through these scriptures when we study them

  5. Verses 4 and the beginning of verse 5 CEV says “Like a shepherd taking care of his sheep, this ruler will lead and care for his people by the power and glorious name of the Lord his God. His people will live securely, and the whole earth will know his true greatness, because he will bring peace.” Only our Redeemer can bring peace beyond understanding as Philippians 4:7 AMP says “And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].” The Lord is there to guard and guide you, no matter what you may be facing in this life.

  6. But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
This Scripture was used to tell Herod where Jesus would be born. Yet it also reveals His origin, which by the way, He does not have one; He is from everlasting! Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
    Psalms 41:13 KJV
Jesus is the one true God, Jehovah who has become our salvation when God manifest Himself in the flesh. The Lord is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
    Isaiah 12:2 KJV
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. He that hath seen him has seen the Father because He and the Father are one!

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord :
    Deuteronomy 6:4 KJV
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
    Ephesians 4:5 KJV
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
    Colossians 2:9‭-‬10 KJV
Jesus is God!!!!!!! Amen and Amen!

  7. THY KINGDOM COME
    KING JESUS

2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

The KING of Glory, The Prince of Peace, The KING of Kings, JESUS is the name of this KING that was revealed to the prophet Micah. The prophesy has come to pass and so will also the prophesies of the BIBLE that yet remain.

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Matthew 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

  8. 4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. (NLT)

How great is our God! He is my strength and my peace and I will praise His name because He is the everlasting God!

  9. 2. But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

    Scripture fulfilled:
    Luke 2:
    4. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
    5. To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
    6. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
    7. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
    10. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
    11. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

  10. iLove the Kingdom
2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

This is a great prophetic scripture telling of the soon coming Messiah. This prophecy would be spoken some 700 years before it came to pass but it is extremely important for the simple fact it gives us a clue where the coming Messiah would be born. If you pay close attention to the scripture, you will notice some interesting things. Think about it, Jesus did not live in Bethlehem, but this scripture seems to suggest that Messiah’s home would be in Bethlehem…This is done intentionally by God. He weaves His story throughout history and intentionally puts twists and turns to defy the wisdom of man. So, Jesus was born in Bethlehem but raised in Nazareth. Wow, God confounds the wise and gives understanding to the simple.

  11. But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf. I will tear down your walls and demolish your defenses. I will put an end to all witchcraft, and there will be no more fortune-tellers. I will destroy all your idols and sacred pillars, so you will never again worship the work of your own hands. I will pour out my vengeance on all the nations that refuse to obey me.”
    Micah 5:2‭, ‬11‭-‬13‭, ‬15 NLT
We start this chapter with a King rise up
    Later it’s talks about peace
But as we go in to the last couple verse it talks about GOD destroying idols ….. What got me there is .Idols of the things we worship with the things owned hands everything will be destroyed there coming a day when JESUS will rules this Earth and all that will be no more

  12. 4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

  13. MSG
5-6 And if some bullying Assyrian shows up,
invades and violates our land, don’t worry.
We’ll put him in his place, send him packing,
    and watch his every move.
Shepherd-rule will extend as far as needed,
to Assyria and all other Nimrod-bullies.
Our shepherd-ruler will save us from old or new enemies,
from anyone who invades or violates our land.

The message says “Our Shepherd-ruler will save us from old and new enemies”. It’s reassuring that the enemies of our past and future have already been defeated by our good Shepard and His name is Jesus!

I’m so thankful that we can trust that He will be there for us through it all. Why wouldn’t we be faithful to a God like that? Thank you Jesus for your provision and faithfulness to us!

  14. Micah 5:2, “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”

St. Matthew 2:1-6 (the fulfillment of Micah 5:2)
    1) NOW when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
    2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
    3) When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
    4) And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
    5) And the said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
    6) And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

  17. 8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver. J.soliz

  18. 4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

The Lord is our strength and comfort. He is all that we will ever need. He is our provider and KING. His Name is Jesus. He is above all my Savior whom I love with all that is in me.

  19. Micah 5
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

    O Little Town of Bethlehem
Prophecy of Jesus Christ being born in s small village called Bethlehem. What a great glorious Redeeming Saviour born to deliver to this world. He has equipped us to reach this world if we will open our mouths extend a hand a kind word a smile. This world can be saved .

    II Peter 3
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

We must keep focus on the Kingdom even in the midst of everyday living lest we miss what God has called us to do with the power He has given us to reach this world. In Jesus Name.

  20. 2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Though little and small God had divine favor and grace upon Judah and showed them mercy not only that but used them to be the tribe that Great rulers were born from.

  21. Micah 5: 5 [English Amp] And this [ One] shall be our peace. When the Assyrian comes into our land and treads upon our soul and in our palaces, then will we raise against him seven shepherds and eight princes among men. [Isa.9:6] For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace. He is our strength and comfort. He all we need. I love to call about him all the time.

  22. 15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
This chapter helps to reinforce the fact that God hates sin. It goes through the many places that He would take away /destroy that are known to abound with sin. I need to be careful that in my life I am not building up any idols or places of sin in my life! Praise the Lord for He is worthy! Praise the Lord for He is full of righteousness and truth! Praise the Lord!

  23. MSG – 2-4 But you, Bethlehem, David’s country,
    the runt of the litter—
From you will come the leader
    who will shepherd-rule Israel.
He’ll be no upstart, no pretender.
His family tree is ancient and distinguished.
Meanwhile, Israel will be in foster homes
until the birth pangs are over and the child is born,
And the scattered brothers come back
home to the family of Israel.
He will stand tall in his shepherd-rule by God’s strength,
centered in the majesty of God-Revealed.
And the people will have a good and safe home,
for the whole world will hold him in respect—
    Peacemaker of the world!

The promise to Israel of the King of Kings being born. This gave them hope that regardless of the ups and downs they had faced, that hope was on the horizon.

We must take courage in knowing that God is by our side. Regardless of our test and trials we know that we have hope in Him.

1 Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

We have hope of His soon return for us His bride!

  24. I Love To Worship The Lord
    God will destroy
    (10-15)
God systematically destroys everthing His people might rely on their military and their walled cities and especially their idols. This is both punishment and preparation . How often God must destroy the empty things we rely on before we will trust fully in Him.

  25. Josiah: 15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
The fury of the Lord in judgement is not something I want to experience. However the pleasure of the Lord is what we should always try getting. This world may try pleasing this or that but as long as we have the favor of the Lord we do not need to worry. So, let us GO PLEASE THE LORD!

  26. When the wise men came to bless the Lord and the king wanted to know where he should send them, the prophets pointed to the scriptures that declared ‘But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.’

The word of God is quick and powerful, and it can be that way in our hands if we take the time to become familiar with it’s truth. The prophets didn’t have to scratch their heads in wonder. They were familiar with what God had spoken in prophecy and could readily declare it to the king. The Bible should not be an emergency reference guide. We should be in the continual habit of partaking of it’s life giving bread. We should be ready always to give a reason of the hope that lieth within us! We don’t need to be ashamed of our ignorance, we need to take the time to study to shew ourselves approved unto God, workmen (and women) that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of Truth! Let us take the time to make his Word a truly powerful tool within our hands!

  27. “And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.”
    ‭‭Micah‬ ‭5:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Lord will always take care of business no matter what it is. The truth will always show and He will always have vengeance.

  28. Food for Strength

4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth

The same as our natural bodies if we don’t eat we get weak, our spirit is hungry for the word of God. No great man of God is great by himself. The word of God is the strength from which we draw from. When an enemy would rise up, the word of God in our hearts and our mouth will be the standard raised up against them.

  29. 11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:

12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:

13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.

God has called all of us to break down all these strong holds that are in our city that is trying to keep people from hearing the gospel or come to Jesus. But we need to prayer against them so we can reach more people for Jesus.

2 Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.

  30. 4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

God will give us strength. We shouldn’t do anything alone. God is with us.

  31. 1 Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

5 And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.

Having showed how low the house of David would be brought, a prediction of the Messiah and his kingdom is added to encourage the faith of God’s people. His existence from eternity as God, and his office as Mediator, are noticed. Here is foretold that Bethlehem should be his birthplace. Hence it was universally known among the Jews, Matthew 2:5. Christ’s government shall be very happy for his subjects; they shall be safe and easy. Under the shadow of protection from the Assyrians, is a promise of protection to the gospel church and all believers, from the designs and attempts of the powers of darkness. Christ is our Peace as a Priest, making atonement for sin, and reconciling us to God; and he is our Peace as a King, conquering our enemies: hence our souls may dwell at ease in him. Christ will find instruments to protect and deliver. Those that threaten ruin to the church of God, soon bring ruin on themselves. This may include the past powerful effects of the preached gospel, its future spread, and the ruin of all antichristian powers. This is, perhaps, the most important single prophecy in the Old Testament: it respects the personal character of the Messiah, and the discoveries of himself to the world. It distinguishes his human birth from his existing from eternity; it foretells the rejection of the Israelites and Jews for a season, their final restoration, and the universal peace to prevail through the whole earth in the latter days. In the mean time let us trust our Shepherd’s care and power. If he permits the assault of our enemies, he will supply helpers and assistance for us.

  32. 2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Not me Lord, surely you have not picked me? I understand this verse is speaking of the return of Jesus. However, there are times when God will choose us to act or speak on His behalf. We may find ourselves asking this question; Are you sure it’s me you want? There must be someone better or more qualified. Someone who is more accustomed to speaking to strangers or crowds. Likely, we may remember a person in the bible – Moses? I believe he had the same conversation with God. Exodus 4:10 Moses raised another objection to God: “Master, please, I don’t talk well. I’ve never been good with words, neither before nor after you spoke to me. I stutter and stammer.”

I want to live like this, not carelessly, but confidently into every situation that the Lord brings into my life. Not simply responding according to my own resources, but convinced that the provisions of God will provide all that I need to respond in any situation.

  33. The people of Israel will stand up to their foes, and all their enemies will be wiped out.(Micah 5:9 NLT)

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

  34. 11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds.

God loves us so much that he will not allow another to be worshipped before him. After all it is the first commandment: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ If you are so in love with God with all your heart then their is no room for wickedness or idolatry. God is jealous for us and here declares that he will eliminate the things we set above him.

  35. I will destroy all your idols and sacred pillars, so you will never again worship the work of your own hands. I will abolish your idol shrines with their Asherah poles and destroy your pagan cities. I will pour out my vengeance on all the nations that refuse to obey me.”
    Micah 5:13‭-‬15 NLT

There comes a point that idol worship will be avenged by the Lord. It is not a matter of game or something to take lightly. The Lord is patient but there is a time and place for everything and judgement will come.
