Habakkuk 1

The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!

Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.

Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their’s.

They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.

They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.

10 And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

11 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.

12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.

13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

15 They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.

16 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.

17 Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?

  1. O Lord…Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous…
    Habakkuk 1:2-4

The prophet was tremendously grieved for the violence, sin, and Injustice all around him. Everywhere he looked, he saw pain and the effects of sin on the righteous and the weak. He couldn’t take his eyes off the negativity that was ever before him, and his faith seemed to falter because of his unanswered prayers to stop the climate of madness in his generation.

If we are not careful, the view in our day can be just as depressing and disheartening. The wars and earthquakes and volcanos, the hurricanes and floods and tornadoes, the killing of innocents and riots in the streets, the crime, and the tragic deaths of the young, these can blind us to God’s goodness and rob us of hope.

But the Lord answered Habakkuk’s despair:
“Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you,”
    (Habakkuk 1:5 KJV).

God was going to amaze the prophet with His wonderful works in the midst of all the negativity. Our God is still able to turn tragedy to triumph, to redeem every impossible situation, and to make all things work together for good. He is not asleep. He hasn’t lost control. He promised that where sin did abound, His grace would much more abound (Romans 5:20).

If we keep our eyes firmly focused on Him, we will see though the bad to the mighty hand of Jesus at work in our world. As we cry over the lost and hurting, let us not forget to be amazed every day at the grace of God which always surrounds us. Let us pray that God will open our eyes to see the mighty works He is continually doing in our lives, our church, and our community. Let us be more overwhelmed with His goodness than we are with the pains of this life.

But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
    Psalms 3:3 KJV

  2. Verse 3 NLT “Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight.” Sounds like our world today. People everywhere arguing/fighting and not even really knowing the cause or reason they are fighting for. It is imperative to keep our focus on the Lord and the work at hand.

Joshua 1:8 NLT “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

Psalm 16:8 NLT “I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.”

  3. Habakkuk 1:12 (AMP)
“Are you not from everlasting, O LORD, my God, my Holy One? We will not die. O LORD, You have appointed the Chaldeans (who rule in Babylon) to execute (Your) judgment. And You, O Rock, have established them to correct and chastise.”

It’s never a fun thing to talk about, but sometimes the LORD has to correct and chasten us.
Psalms 118:18, “The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.”
Proverbs 3:11-12, “11) My son, despise not he chastening of the LORD, neither be weary of his correction: 12) For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”
Hebrews 12:5-11, “5) And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the LORD, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6) For whom the LORD loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9) Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10) For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11) Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
Revelation 3:19, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

So when the LORD has to correct and chasten you, don’t take it as the LORD doesn’t love or care about you, but it’s the opposite. He does it because HE Does LOVE You. So receive His correction and chastisement and REPENT!

  4. Therefore, they offer sacrifices to their net And burn incense to their fishing net; Because through these things their catch is large and they live luxuriously, And their food is plentiful.
    HABAKKUK 1:16 AMP

God provides and orchestrates our blessings and how they come to us. Yes, in this verse he’s talking about the enemy troops but how many of us are more concerned with the blessing than with God. We can get up early for work, but can’t get up early to pray? We make sure we give our best for work or other activities and God just gets what’s left over…we burn incense and worship the blessing instead of the GOD of the blessing. Help us, Lord to not be out of line and to put You first. In Jesus name. Amen.

  5. 5 The Lord replied, “Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it. (NLT)

Sometimes we are trained to look for the negative whether as a child we thought we had to watch our backs or even now through media where the negative tends to make headline news. Most people have a whole spill about the negativity happening in the world today – but we need to retrain our minds to look through a Kingdom mindset.

I’ve also heard testimonies of how the world we live in is actually the safest it’s ever been and that although we feel persecuted as the church, there are still several people wholly committed to standing in His word. I recently was listening to a YouTube sermon of Bro. Raymond Woodward and he said something similar to support this verse. He said although it’s hard to see because we tend to only look at our own church, but if we take a step back and really consider what God is doing across the world, it will blow you away to see how strong the church really is. Literally thousands are being saved through missions and we just don’t see it, there are apostolic preachers visiting various denominal churches, and pastors of these churches are being converted and now slowly introducing truth to their churches. Revival is happening, the endtime harvest and revival is here – if you’re just looking at your own church, you might miss it and get a clouded vision seeing the negative, but take a step back and see the great things God is doing. God is on the move and is doing amazing things!!

  6. 1:7 they are terrible and dreadful: their judgement and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

1:7 they fill others with ear, they make their own law about what is fair and honor. NLV
    ——
Wicked, wicked people! Full of themselves, without hope, without God! Oppressing others and doing whatever they want… yet the Lord has a plan, a plan that not necesary fits into our intelectual understanding, something odd, something that doesn’t mak sence….
—- ITS ALL FOR HIS GLORY!!!! He is doing something , Habakkuk can’t understand, he is confused, with many questions,….
GOd Omnipotent, Omniscient is And WILL always be in control! You’ll see, you’ll see what he meant with all this….

  7. 5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
God has things in store for His church and His people that we cannot being to understand, believe or ask . All we must do is position ourselves for the blessing and favor of God in our lives.

  8. Habakkuk 1:12 & 13

  9. Why, why, Why!?

How long, O Lord , must I call for help? But you do not listen! “Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save. Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight.
    Habakkuk 1:2‭-‬3 NLT
Sometimes……well many times I (we) sound like the prophet Habakkuk.
If i am not careful i can lose out on what GOD is doing in my life because I am so busy asking questions i shouldn’t be, and not fully putting my trust in GOD, step back and see the salvation of the LORD. I must remember that His thoughts are not my thoughts, neither are my ways His ways… right? Isn’t this truth? Then why do we continually question Him? Lord forgive me for i have sinned.

  10. Our God is still the almighty one. He has the name above all names. We must remember that no matter what the devil tries to tell us, God still has all power.

  11. Habakkuk 1

“The righteous shall live by his faith,
That is, What you say about the wicked is true, but the good man on his part will live by his faith and his life will be based on integrity.’

There are no answers to why God allows certain things except to build us through the trying of our faith.

    Hope
    rejoice in our suffering
    suffering produces perseverance
    perseverance character
    and character hope…,,,,,

  12. 5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

  13. 12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die.

We know who He is! He is the Righteous, Holy God of Israel!!!!! But why do we see evil walking around like they have triumph! The closer judgement day gets, the more injustices we see. Evil getting away with murder as we struggle day by day. Look around you! Haven’t you heard? haven’t you seen? How much longer will you wait to fall upon His Mercy seat!!! I wouldn’t waste anytime! Today is the Day Of Salvation, Now is the Time!!! Tomorrow might be too late!! He will answer our cries for justice and peace!!! For He never leaves us nor forsakes is.

  14. O Lord my God, my Holy One, you who are eternal— surely you do not plan to wipe us out? O Lord , our Rock, you have sent these Babylonians to correct us, to punish us for our many sins.
    Habakkuk 1:12 NLT
God had warned His people that He would use their enemies to bring judgement upon them. When we experience a lack of victory, it is time to seek the Lord to see where we have gone astray.
And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God. But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: The Lord shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
    Deuteronomy 28:2‭, ‬15‭-‬15‭, ‬25 KJV

  15. Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
    Habakkuk 1:5 KJV
God has things in store that we won’t even believe
I was at work helping a lady pick out things I told her about church after I was done with her she pulled out a bag of money and said you keep going to church have a blessed day
BTW it was only 10$ lol

  16. 5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

Whether it is a work of judgement or the miracle of salvation our God is great and mighty God. He can do more than we can think or ask to bless us while it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of our righteous God when he judges. Help us today to be pure and holy, watching for his return and determined to help those around us make heaven their home as well.

  17. THY KINGDOM COME
    THE FALL

4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

With every violation comes an investigation. In The Kingdom of GOD, every sin is a violation of the Laws of GOD and therefore a violation of HIS Kingdom order.

For every New Testament Apostolic believer the path to sin is the same. When the LAW is slacked. When the principals and laws of GOD that we learn from the WORD of GOD are ignored and judgement does not fall on the violation; the AMP version reads:

4 Therefore, the law is ineffective and ignored And justice is never upheld, For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore, justice becomes perverted. AMP

There is an attempt to intermingle the sin and righteousness and it becomes perverted or tainted. This is what we witness in our society today, people are confused and confounded by sin and its effects.

We must learn, honor and uphold the LAW of GOD to live righteous and holy in the sight of GOD to maintain HIS Kingdom.

  18. 4 Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous, therefore perverse judgement proceeds .Look among the nation’s and watch, be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.

  19. 2 O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!

3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.

4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

Can you look past the negative, get out of the “woe is me” mindset long enough to see the wonderful works of God? Instead of asking “why God?”to every situation, we need to ask “how God?” How can you use me Lord, to receive glory out of this? He is always doing great things, we just have to get out of the negative mindset and become Kingdom minded!

  20. 1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.

Seems that alot of people have a “Word” but no burden! Seeking to expel knowledge for self benefit and self promotion, but not to edify.

Some time we ask why certain things come to afflict us, I think the right question would be, for what purpose has God allowed this trail?

Our perspective will determine our reaction!

What will your trail reveal about where your heart is?

  21. 12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die.

All things work together… He establishes governments…
Sometimes these are not easy to accept but they are still true.

  22. The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their’s.

7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

8 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.

The servants of the Lord are deeply afflicted by seeing ungodliness and violence prevail; especially among those who profess the truth. No man scrupled doing wrong to his neighbour. We should long to remove to the world where holiness and love reign for ever, and no violence shall be before us. God has good reasons for his long-suffering towards bad men, and the rebukes of good men. The day will come when the cry of sin will be heard against those that do wrong, and the cry of prayer for those that suffer wrong. They were to notice what was going forward among the heathen by the Chaldeans, and to consider themselves a nation to be scourged by them. But most men presume on continued prosperity, or that calamities will not come in their days. They are a bitter and hasty nation, fierce, cruel, and bearing down all before them. They shall overcome all that oppose them. But it is a great offence, and the common offence of proud people, to take glory to themselves. The closing words give a glimpse of comfort.

  23. The Lord replied,

    5. “Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.
    Habakkuk 1:2‭-‬3‭, ‬5 NLT

Even when I can’t see it, you’re working; you never stop, you never stop working. The lyrics to that song came to mind as I meditated on what I read. Sometimes it seems as though our prayers are having no effect. We feel like the Lord is not listening or wanting to reply. However, he does listen and it just may be that he is working behind scenes and preparing the answer. I don’t recall where in the Word it tells us to stop praying but rather to pray without ceasing. Maybe all that needs to happen is that extra push. That extra prayer until something happens.

  24. So many people ask this same question today about God. ‘Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.’ They see the sin in the world around us and wonder why God allows it to exist. Why should we have to behold and put up with so many grievances and the proliferation of violence around us. They even come to the same conclusion. ‘Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.’

These conditions have always been allowed by God. Satan rebelled against God and runs amock in the world around us. He who chose to rebel against God… but God doesn’t intend to witness another such display in the heavens. He gives us a freely made choice whether to serve him, right in the midst of all the sin so prevalent in the world… and does so while we are yet weak and limited. Those who fell were created in glory, but those who rise to glory will have been created in weakness and yet were made strong! They had every opportunity to remain with him who fell and partake of all his passing pleasures, but they chose rather to be with God! It is a choice! It is not forced, it is freely given, and made with the conscious choice of leaving behind all those things the adversary has to offer. It is done with the desire to be one with him in whom is no darkness at all, neither even a shadow at his turning, for he is the true light that light every soul that cometh into the world!

  25. 11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on—
guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”

People complaint a lot about useless things! Many might not see the hand of the Lord in their situations but however He is the everlasting God and who are we to question God!

Growing up I was raised that what Mom & Dad say, that’s how it goes because they are the parents and they know what’s best for us!!!! No matter what?!?
Just because I was the daughter didn’t give me the liberty to question everything because even if we are told why we weren’t going to understand.

I feel that’s how things are spiritually! Even if things are not going how I like…who am I to question God?!?…I might not understand now even if God would tell me. It’s better to obey….

  26. Habakkuk1:12 [ Are not You from everlasting, O Lord my God, my Holy One? WE shall not die, I Lord, You have appointed [ the Chaldean to execute your judgment, and You, O Rock, have established him for chastisement and correction. [ Deut.32 :4] He is the Rock, His work is perfect, for all His ways are law and justice. A God of faithfulness without breach or deviation, just and right is He. The Lord will never forsake us or leave us.

  27. AMP 12 Are You not from everlasting,
O Lord, my God, My Holy One?
We will not die. O Lord, You have appointed the Chaldeans [who rule in Babylon] to execute [Your] judgment,
And You, O Rock, have established them to correct and chastise.

The Lord had to bring the Chaldeans to execute judgement to His people because they would not repent and turn back to Him.

God used a donkey, a bush, a cloud by day and a fire by night to carry out His task. If we become so full of ourselves, pride, arrogance, God can raise someone else up in our place to accomplish our purpose. Let’s keep humble, pure and connected to God so that we do not find someone taking or place in the Kingdom.

  28. “The Lord replied, “Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.”
    ‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Habakkuk..say that 5times fast haha
No but for real he’s doing the same thing we do today and God is giving the perfect response He says “open your eyes” “I’m doing something as we speak” a lot like today’s situations we cry out continually to God when we should know He’s a God that answers prays, we should know He’s an on time God, a waymaker, a miracle worker.
Gods consistent and He’s not moving.
There is gonna be pressure from all sides and it’s gonna always be pressed against you but God will remain there and always have your way of escape.
    Find that way of escape

  29. 12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die.

  30. iLove the Kingdom

“Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight.”
    ‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wow, “I’m surrounded by people who love to argue and fight”…Wow, this is insanity, we need to pray for the spirit of peace to conquer the contentencious spirit of this world. Arguing and fighting have no place in the lives of a Christian

  31. Josiah: With much wisdom comes much sorrow. As we live in this world but are not of this world we are going to see sin. It will grieve us and make us sad but we are supposed to witness to this world and share the Gospel. So, let us GO BE A CITY SET ON A HILL in JESUS NAME!

  32. “O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!”
    ‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Thank you Jesus that you hear our prayers.

  33. O Lord , how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
    Habakkuk 1:2‭-‬4 KJV

The burden which the prophet habakkuk saw is probably a title for the book .In verses 2-4 he complained to the Lord about the terrible, violence, iniquity, robbery, strife, and injustice in judah.he asked the Lord how long it would De allowed to go unpunished.because of this and similar quesstionings of God, Habakkuk has sometimes been called ” the doubting Thomas of the Old Testament”

    A.L.M.A.S.

  34. 5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

Regardless of our surroundings in the natural the supernatural maybe telling a very different and unique story. Yet, we must walk in the Spirit and allow the Spirit to reveal to us piece by piece what He would have us to know. Truth be told if He revealed it all to us many would Trimble in fear and neve move forward to accomplish His plan.

  35. 6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their’s.

    Proverbs 21 (KJV)
1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

    DADDY IS IN CONTROL!!!

  36. 4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

  37. 4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

When righteousness is not upheld and judment of the law is half way followed people will stagger and fall. They fall into contentment and later into backsliding. The judgment of their wickedness is coming on a fierce enemy with no mercy. God has mercy on those who repent but when they live apart from God they chose to be at enmity with Him and prey to the gruesome judment to come.

  38. Unbelievable

5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

Scripture says that we have not because we ask not. We don’t ask because we don’t believe that it could really happen. If we really believed we would be asking.

  39. 3 Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight.

Many ask this, ‘why all the misery of violence, assault and murders’. They want to blame God for everything that goes wrong. But when things are going good, they don’t want to give God any credit. They only look to blame. Whether good or bad, praise God at all times. During those times of trouble, they will seem very small.
