Mark 12

And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.

And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.

And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.

And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.

Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.’

And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

11 This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

12 And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar’s.

17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marvelled at him.

18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man’s brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?

36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

40 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

  1. And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: THESE SHALL RECEIVE GREATER DAMNATION.
    Mark 12:38‭-‬40 KJV

In the previous chapter, Jesus spoke of those who were misusing His Temple for their own benefit. Here, He speaks of those who misuse the ministry for selfish motives. As Pastor preached last night, God hates this kind of hypocrisy.

In fact, Jesus promised a greater damnation for those who pretended to be spiritual, while really just using the ministry to puff up their own egos. Instead of loving God’s people, these men were taking advantage of them. Their only love was for themselves.

God is not fooled by spiritual appearances or fancy prayers. He sees one’s heart in his treatment of His Word, His House, and His children. To abuse any of these is to reveal oneself as a hypocrite, who quite possibly does not even know God, much less love and serve Him.

We should, therefore, judge our own hearts to see whether we be in the faith and repent if we discover our motives for our service to God to be anything other than an unfeigned love for God and others.

  2. And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.

2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

3 And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.

4 And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.

5 And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.

6 Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.’

8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

9 What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

Christ showed in parables, that he would lay aside the Jewish church. It is sad to think what base usage God’s faithful ministers have met with in all ages, from those who have enjoyed the privileges of the church, but have not brought forth fruit answerable. God at length sent his Son, his Well-beloved; and it might be expected that he whom their Master loved, they also should respect and love; but instead of honouring him because he was the Son and Heir, they therefore hated him. But the exaltation of Christ was the Lord’s doing; and it is his doing to exalt him in our hearts, and to set up his throne there; and if this be done, it cannot but be marvellous in our eyes. The Scriptures, and faithful preachers, and the coming of Christ in the flesh, call on us to render due praise to God in our lives. Let sinners beware of a proud, carnal spirit; if they revile or despise the preachers of Christ, they would have done so their Master, had they lived when he was upon earth.

  3. Verses 41-44 MSG “Sitting across from the offering box, he was observing how the crowd tossed money in for the collection. Many of the rich were making large contributions. One poor widow came up and put in two small coins—a measly two cents. Jesus called his disciples over and said, “The truth is that this poor widow gave more to the collection than all the others put together. All the others gave what they’ll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford—she gave her all.” Giving your ALL (extravagantly) in every aspect of your life to the one who created ALL.

Colossians 3:15-17 MSG “Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.

  4. 28. And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

    29. And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

    32. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

Lord Jesus, iPray that you open the eyes of those who are teaching and those who have been taught false doctrines contrary to Your scriptures and reveal to them Your Truth in these last days before Your return in Jesus Name, Amen.

  5. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all you soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment.

  6. Jesus answered, “The first and most important one is: ‘H ear , O I srael , the Lord our G od is one Lord ; and you shall love the Lord your G od with all your heart , and with all your soul (life), and with all your mind (thought, understanding), and with all your strength .’ This is the second: ‘Y ou shall [unselfishly] love your neighbor as yourself .’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
    MARK 12:29‭-‬31 AMP

    Loving my neighbor is S.O.U.L.S!!
This is something that the world is losing because it is so caught up with self gratification, and self righteousness.
Love is what will bring us together as a church, as a family, and as a nation that is only if LOVE is unconstitutional.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
    John 15:13 KJV

  7. St. Mark 12:18 & 24 (nlt)
    18) Then Jesus was approached by some Sadducees – religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. …
    24) Jesus replied, Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.

    “I KNOW”
The err or the mistake here was that they “Didn’t Know” the Scriptures (the Word of God), and because they “Didn’t Know” the Scriptures, they “Didn’t Know” the Power of God.
It’s “Sadd-u-cee” when a child of God won’t read or study the Word of God, because they loose out on “KNOWING” the Power of God, and what He Can and Will do for His children.

READ and STUDY the Word of God everyday, so that you can “KNOW” the Power of God!

  8. Mark12:30 (English Amp) And you shall love the Lord your God out of and with your whole heart and out of and with all your soul ( your life) and out of and with all your mind ( with your faculty of thought and your moral understanding) and out of and with all your strength. This is the first and principal commandment. [ Deut.6:4-5] Hear, I Israel; the Lord your God is one Lord [ the only Lord] . [5] And you shall love the Lord your God with all your mind and heart and with your entire being and with all your might. This is the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to ( reverently fear the Lord our God for our good always, that He might preserve us alive . To obey his commandments and to do his will in his word, ( thought and actions). To be obeintent and submissive to him. I will praise him with my whole heart and love him the same.

  9. Mark 12
9-11 “What do you think the owner of the vineyard will do? Right. He’ll come and clean house. Then he’ll assign the care of the vineyard to others. Read it for yourselves in Scripture:

That stone the masons threw out
    is now the cornerstone!
    This is God’s work;
we rub our eyes—we can hardly believe it!”
12 They wanted to lynch him then and there but, intimidated by public opinion, held back. They knew the story was about them. They got away from there as fast as they could.

What are we building on ? Philosophy of man which will crumble or the true proclamation of Jesus Christ. Jesus was rejected yet He was the cornerstone. The pattern after we should follow.
The firm foundation of this world . Will we also reject Him and His Word. Are we truly living by Hus principals? Do we cross the line when we appear as the publicans and the Sadducees. Search me Lord that I might not reject You as the corner stone of what I am really building upon. Self or Kingdom I pray the Kingdom in Jesus name. There is no one else like You.

    Psalms 118
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in mortals. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes…I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
Psalm 118:8–22 (NRSV)Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)

  10. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

  11. 17“Well, then,” Jesus said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”

To this day, we follow this concept. We give what belongs to the government and give to what belongs to God. As the rulers were trying to trap Jesus, but he gave them one great response! Basically obey the laws of the land, but also obey God and serve him.

  12. 38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

40 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

Fakers, they’re everywhere! They dress the part but where is their hearts? They act holier than thou but there is no kindness, no humility, and no love for the stranger and lost. Jesus tell us to beware! Beware it’s a verb that means be cautious and alert to the dangers of. Keep an eye out for them love them for God tells us to love thy enemy, pray for them for God can do it all, and forgive them for if you don’t God won’t hear your prayers. Above all beware of them!!!

  13. 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love your neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
    ———
That is it! God is very clear, it no matter how many sacrifices and burned offerings we bring to the Lord, He knows and trues our heart and to him to love our neighbor is more important than the rest . With this statement the Lord can see a whole lot on what’s truly in our heart. Actually he sees and knows everything .
    I repent
    I pray

  14. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices

It’s that simple. It’s we as humans that complicate things and make it more difficult. If we love God and love our neighbor as ourselves then everything falls into place and is in order. It’s not about what we give up and sacrifice all the time, it’s about loving God first and loving people

  15. “And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.”
    ‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

How we gonna reach people and help them understand?
    The same way Jesus did.
He spoke in parables and come to think of it a lot of good preachers speak in parables and these are the messages that stick.
Since we’re gonna be reaching people all week and bringing someone Sunday I say we start the week off right and share the Gospel and truth in parables to weed out the ones that wanna know truth from the ones that could care less.
    Let’s Go in Jesus name!

  16. iLove the Kingdom
24And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

Wow, these religious leaders came to God robed in flesh and tried to get him caught up in the Word. It was absolutely impossible to get the Word made flesh tangled up in the Word. Ha. These teachers of the word had a doctrine but it was not a true doctrine and Jesus had no problem pointing out that they did not understand what they were teaching.

I just can not understand why folks take some scriptures and leave other scriptures even when it comes to controversial issues like the rapture. If it is in the Word it is important enough to understand and it should matter or it wouldn’t have been written.

  17. 25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

It’s not gonna matter! When we cease from this world all the cares of this life will be trivial and obsolete and will fade away. Enjoy what God has blessed us with now in this temporal, physical world.

  18. 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Despite her wants and needs, this woman gave all she had. That’s really all God wants, is for us to give our all and wholly dedicate ourselves to the work of His Kingdom. What are you willing to sacrifice?

  19. 10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

11 This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Although God was rejected by men, He continued on, because He knew His life and His teaching was setting the foundation of the church. He was doing a marvelous work, and no rejection could stop that.

And though sometimes, we as the church can feel rejected by this world, we need to continue on. Because we are the foundation that is holding this world together. As long as we are rooted in His word, and working continually in prayer and fasting, no rejection, no thing of this earth can stop us.
    He is doing marvelous things!

  20. 28-31
“Which is most important of all the commandments?” Jesus said, “The first in importance is, ‘Listen, Israel: The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.’ And here is the second: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment that ranks with these.”

  21. 33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

When reading this passage this morning, Jimmy Needham’s song “Clear The Stage” came to mind.

“You can sing all you want to And still get it wrong; worship is more than a song”

Verse 33 says this is more important than offerings and sacrifices. It isn’t saying that offerings and sacrifices aren’t important, however, if we don’t love God or our neighbor, our offerings and sacrifices are in vain.

How can we sing in the choir or teach a class, but hate our neighbor?
    You can’t.
Daily repentance AND forgiveness are crucial to refrain from a vain offering.

  22. 15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar’s.

17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marvelled at him.

Although we don’t like it, we render unto our country (IRS) our taxes. It is deducted before we ever receive anything. Yet many people struggle with rendering unto God what belongs to Him. Recently while listening to a radio program on our way to church on a Sunday morning, the minister was teaching on tithing. He made a very profound statement and it has stuck with me “Many people trust God for their salvation and the promise that they will have eternal life in Heaven, yet they don’t trust God enough to give Him 10% tithing, and believe that He will multiply the 90% that is left to meet their needs.

  23. Mark 12:10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the (chief cornerstone) head of the corner:

Psalm 118:22,23 The stone which the builders refused is become the headstone of the corner. 23.This is the Lord’s doing it is marvelous in our eyes.
24.This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

  24. 29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

  25. THY KINGDOM COME
    GIVING ALL

41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

This verse reveals true sacrifice in the sight of GOD. It is not the amount that matters most to JESUS when we give. What matters most is

    1. Obedience
    2. Sacrifice

This widow and her two mites are what JESUS identified as the greatest offering. JESUS knows what we have and what we give, the pathway to BLESSING is found in our willingness to give it all back to HIM. Knowing the guarantee of HIS WORD.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

JESUS help us to prayerfully consider what we GIVE to you. You do not ask for ALL that we have, but we TRUST you so deeply that we will GIVE all that we have for the purpose of your Kingdom.

Honestly, when was the last time we gave a sacrificial offering?

Seeking FIRST The Kingdom of GOD will challenge us at times to give sacrificially for HIS cause. Lets continue to ask JESUS to speak to us and we will OBEY and SACRIFICE.

  28. And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
    Mark 12:10‭-‬11 KJV
How sad, Jesus came to His own and His own received Him not. Yet, if we are not careful, we can miss His next coming. The Bible says of the end time, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of MANY shall wax cold. ” Matthew 24:12 KJV
We must keep ourselves in the love of God in these last days because people will wax worse especially if WWIII happens. Our prophecy conference was very eye opening and we must be prepared for perilous times to come. Yet, No offense is worth missing Jesus’coming for His church. If ever there was a time to get closer to the Lord Jesus Christ, it is now!

  29. Mark 12:38-31

  30. “Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.””
    ‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:41-44‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Being that we had the privilege to have the offering done two different ways this weekend it’s good to see that bring our tithe and offering to one basket/box is how they didn’t it in Jesus’ day.

  31. 29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

Part of loving God is loving others. Loving the lost no matter where they are in life.
We should always be reaching and lending a helping hand to the needy. I must ask myself every day do I love others as myself. When I love myself I will do whatever it takes to please myself to get want I want so I should do the same for other do whatever it takes to help, save make some one feel welcome and wanted.

  32. 24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

Oh how important it is for us to know the scriptures especially in our times. It is the scriptures that will guide our lives. There is so much out there but only One Truth.
