Luke 5

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.

19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.

20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?

23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.

25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.

30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

33 And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?

35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

36 And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

  1. “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.
    Luke 5:5‭-‬7 NLT
I’ve noticed in this chapter today Simon trust JESUS Simon said we work hard all last night and they didn’t caught any fish you see Simon didn’t not hold back I believe he knew who JESUS was because he called JESUS master early in the verse Simon had faith to do it again he didn’t arguing with JESUS because he listen and obey JESUS his boat was full of fish . This got me thinking how many times do we fish and like Simon we in up with nothing when GOD saying throw out the net one more time and we argue with GOD say i already try I been praying so long I been fasting so long and nothing has happened yet my family is still not safe GOD my dad is still not save yet . It just no use what happened it we steps out by faith and stop arguing with GOD . I not going to stop until my family I not going to stop until my dad healed maybe GOD tell throw out the net but God I already try throw out the net Moses arguing with GOD he didn’t think he was worthy but Moses decided to throw out the net and let God take control because he did that God use Moses to the Most great things before we throw out the net we got to first let God take control let his will be done . It’s not about us it’s about his kingdom it’s about him
    Thanks you JESUS

  2. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
    Luke 5:11 KJV

They were so mesmerized by Jesus that they walked away from what was probably the biggest catch of their lives to follow Him. Scripture says that some who followed Jesus only did so for a while and then they turned back, but these disciples followed Him to their deaths.

They forsook all. They left nothing in their hearts for the enemy to coax them back to. You can tell that their repentance was sincere because they forsook all. They didn’t care what others might say. They didn’t care that they would suffer from an uncertain income. They didn’t care about the wealth they left filling their boats. They only cared about following Him.

What might we do for Christ if we had a ‘forsake all” attitude? If we didn’t care about persecution or ridicule? If we didn’t care about living on less? If we forsook our love of entertainment, our desire for bigger and better toys or the latest of gadgets? If we weren’t constantly held back by besetting sins? What might we accomplish if our focus was solely upon the Kingdom? Perhaps, we could turn our world upside down just like the apostles did.

    Drawn like the rivers
    Are drawn to the sea
    There’s no turning back
For the water cannot help but flow
Once we hear the Savior’s call
    We’ll follow wherever He leads
Because of the love He has shown
And because He has called us to go
    We will answer

    We will abandon it all
For the sake of the call
    No other reason at all
But the sake of the call
Wholly devoted to live and to die

Not for the sake of a creed or a cause
Not for a dream or a promise
Simply because it is Jesus who called
And if we believe we’ll obey

  5. In verses 5-7 MSG, as soon as Simon put his faith and obedience into action it says “….It was no sooner said than done”……boom a blessing that could not be contained.

In verse 13 MSG it says “Jesus put out his hand, touched him, and said, “I want to. Be clean.” Then and there his skin was smooth, the leprosy gone.” If we could only grasp the response from Jesus “I want to”….Sometimes, the only thing holding that from happening is our choices. Can we be like Levi in verses 27-28 MSG as he “……walked away from everything and went with him.”? JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

  6. 30 And their scribes and the Pharisees complained against His disciples, saying, why do You eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners? Jesus answered and said to them, Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.

  7. “And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    2 words
This may seem like a general word for a general person but this is how simple the voice of the Lord is. It’s not always a big long “thus saith the Lord” no Gods word could be as simple as “Follow me” I’m sure Gods givin each of us a “general word” let’s take that general word and do something radical with it. If God says follow Him then follow Him and spread the gospel and tel and teach others about his goodness and share your testimony and change someone’s life!
God said “follow me” so…Go, go follow him!

  8. Luke 4:12-13 (English Amp) While he was in one of the town’s, there came a man full of( covered with) leprosy; and when Jesus, He fell on his face and implored Him, saying, Lord of You are willing, You are able to cure me and make me clean. [13] And Jesus reached out His hand and touched him, saying, I am willing; be cleansed ! And immediately the leprosy left him. There were many crowds of people kept comming to hear Jesus and to be healed by Him of their infirmiities. There isn’t nothing that God can’t heal. Go tell your testimony to someone today.

  9. 30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Once we begin following Christ and walking closer to him, we learn that it is no longer about us, it’s about serving the ones who need Jesus and being there to minister to them.

  10. The net is overflowing

10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

I have heard many preachers preach about the law of the sower. Some 30 fold, some 60, some 100. Although this is true, the law was fulfilled with Jesus. When Jesus is reaping the harvest the law is overflowing. Our part in the harvest is to cast the net, his part is to fill it up. Inticements and gimics last only for a short time but to really catch and retain it has to be Jesus.

  11. Luke 5

  12. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

The change in Simon Peter was quick. He went from partial obedience; letting down one net when Jesus had tol him nets, to repentance and telling him he was a sinful man, and finally to leave everything that means the ships that he just filled with fish to the top behind. All his livelihood, his fishing company, and left to follow Jesus with his partners. Lord help us recognize who you are as quick as Simon Peter did. In Jesus Name Amen

  13. Luke 5
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

    Fishers of Men

Galatians 6:9 New International Version (NIV)

9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

  14. 5And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

God is preparing us for the great harvest. Get ready POFW we haven’t begun to see what God is about to pour out on us. Let’s get our nets, ships, and men ready. It’s time to reap.

  15. 27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

  16. When he had finished speaking, he says to Simon, “now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”
    Luke 5:4 NLT

The key for the miraculous is in the obedience,
    It requires a physical action.

  17. iLove the Kingdom

Leprosy is caused by a slow-growing type of bacteria. It is an infectious disease that causes severe, disfiguring skin sores and nerve damage in the arms, legs, and skin areas around the body. Let’s think about this…Most of us today would reason within ourselves and say, “Well, I need to put this bacteria fighting medicine into my body to kill this slow growing bacteria in my body.” But our God is much more powerful then any man made medicine. All Jesus did was touch him and the leprosy “departed” from him. Where did it go so fast? It is a “slow” growing bacteria. The point is, even a slow poke bacteria had to put some pep in it it’s step when touched by Jesus.

  18. THY KINGDOM COME
    OBEDIENCE = FAVOR

1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

JESUS may ask us to repeat some tasks, challenge us to pray again, command us to do something over and over. We learn here that fishing is a trade and Simon must have been good at fishing, he derived his livelihood from fishing. He was a professional. But, this particular night JESUS reveals that HE is LORD of ALL.

Just like the animals came to the Ark that Noah built in OBEDIENCE the fish came to the net that Simon dropped in OBEDIENCE. My our spirits be tuned, our hearts be focused and our ears be keen to the voice of our Savior JESUS and be willing to repeat if necessary.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo
    iBlessYouInTheNameOfTheLordJESUS

    • The willingness to repeat what has been unsuccessful so many times before. It seems like futility, stupidity even, to try again. Nevertheless, Lord, at Thy command!

Thanks, Pastor, for reminding me: Nothing is in vain if the Lord commands it. We must leave the results to Him.

  19. When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him.
    Luke 5:8‭-‬9 NLT

We don’t deserve His goodness, but He loves us anyway. You are so amazing, LORD! I need You every hour.

  20. 10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

What are you fishing for? What are you catching? And have you truly forsaken all for God? God has called us to be fishers of men, spoken that we will catch men, and given us example of what it means to forsake all. So the choice is all ours, it’s a choice we just wake up every day making. “I have decided to follow Jesus!”

  21. 12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

It may not seem like it, but be ye not deceived, for the souls are ready and waiting for us to see JESUS through us!!! If we could just be JESUS to them, how? By showing thme love!!! They would see JESUS IN US, because deep down they are longing for the opportunity to feel loved!!! We are positioned at the right TIME and PLACE!!! WE MUST WALK IN THE SPIRIT……HALELUJAH!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!

  22. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

In using Simon’s boat, Jesus accomplishes teaching the multitude, performs a miracles, repays Simon for the use of his boat and draws these disciples to him. We serve a mighty God.

  23. 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

“Man measures greatness by what you gain, God measures greatness by what you leave behind” – Victor Jackson

When Jesus came to earth, He left behind His throne in heaven, He left behind the only place where there is no sickness, no sorrow, and no pain, only to come to this messed up world and lay His life down for us.
If Jesus gave up all of that for us, what are we willing to walk away from in order to follow Him?
Jesus may not ask us to leave behind everything we know, but there is something He has asked each of us to give up. And if He did ask us to leave everything behind, would we be willing? Do we trust Him enough to do so? Do we truly believe that He provides our every need and knows our every want?

It’s a daily decision we must make, to surrender our lives, to leave behind sin and things that would keep us from Jesus, and follow Him!

  24. 18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.

What type of FRIEND are you going to be?

Would you be the friend that will carry them to the Healer? And when there seems no way, you’ll make a way for them? Or would you be the “friend” that stands by and says I had to work hard to get where I’m at, let him struggle? Or a friend of convenience, only being their friend when it benefits you?

These men SOUGHT ways to bring him to the Healer! We should SEEK ways to bring our friends to Christ! As their friends they share with us their hurts, desires, and needs, so why do we not bring them to the Healer, Provider, and Creator?

I pray we get a Holy Ghost Boldness to bring the friends God has blessed us with to the Kings House!

  25. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

They had already fished all night, yet something in Peter when the Lord said do it, encouraged him to go the extra mile and do what the Lord said, and lo and behold the fish were so many the net brake and they had to ask for assistance.

No one ever said following the Lord would be easy, but if we will be consistent and learn to obey at the first command we won’t be so frustrated within ourselves. The harvest of fish “souls” is out there, we must keep casting the net each day, without weariness and frustration until the nets are full, so full there’s not room to handle.

  26. Luke 5:32 I’m here inviting outsiders, not insiders-an invitation to a changed life, changed inside and out.

I Timothy 1:15 Thus is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief(worst).
Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

When Christ had done preaching, he told Peter to apply to the business of his calling. Time spent on week days in public exercises of religion, need be but little hinderance in time, and may be great furtherance to us in temper of mind, as to our worldly business. With what cheerfulness may we go about the duties of our calling, when we have been with God, and thus have our worldly employments sanctified to us by the word and prayer! Though they had taken nothing, yet Christ told them to let down their nets again. We must not abruptly quit our callings because we have not the success in them we desire. We are likely to speed well, when we follow the guidance of Christ’s word. The draught of fishes was by a miracle. We must all, like Peter, own ourselves to be sinful men, therefore Jesus Christ might justly depart from us. But we must beseech him that he would not depart; for woe unto us if the Saviour depart from sinners! Rather let us entreat him to come and dwell in our hearts by faith, that he may transform and cleanse them. These fishermen forsook all, and followed Jesus, when their calling prospered. When riches increase, and we are tempted to set our hearts upon them, then to quit them for Christ is thankworthy.

  28. St. Luke 5:18-20 & 24-25 (AMP)
    18) Some men came carrying on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed, and they tried to bring him in and lay him down in front of Jesus.
    19) But finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof (and removed some tiles to make an opening) and lowered him through the tiles with his stretcher, into the middle of the crowd, in front of Jesus.
    20) When Jesus saw their (active) faith (springing from confidence in Him), He said, Man, your sins are forgiven.

    24) But, in order that you may know that the Son of Man (the Messiah) has authority and power on earth to forgive sins – He said to the paralyzed man, I say to you, get up, pick up your stretcher and go home.
    25) He immediately stood up before them, picked up his stretcher, and went home glorifying and praising God.

    ACTIVE FAITH
James 2 tells us that “Faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone, and Faith without works is dead.”
BUT these men had Active Faith. They showed their Faith by their Works. (They went up on the roof (and removed some tiles to make an opening) and lowered him through the tiles with his stretcher, into the middle of the crowd, in front of Jesus). So then, Faith wrought with their Works, and by Works was Faith made perfect. The man that was paralyzed was healed.

  29. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

  30. 4-6 When he finished teaching, he said to Simon, “Push out into deep water and let your nets out for a catch.” Simon said, “Master, we’ve been fishing hard all night and haven’t caught even a minnow. But if you say so, I’ll let out the nets.” It was no sooner said than done—a huge haul of fish, straining the nets past capacity.

It seems such a simple instruction – do things the way Jesus asks you to do them. Some people may not hear an audible voice of God directing them into action; while some do. Others may feel more of an urging or nudging. Either way, anything God asks of us can be verified and detailed within His word. Issues arise when we feel we know a better way of doing things or saying something other than what we have been directed to say.

  31. I Love To Worship The Lord
    WORKED HARD ALL NIGHT 5-5
Fishing was a demanding trade. The men fished at night and sold or salted the catch and dried or mended nets durning the day.
    5-10
    Jesus changes our destiny too.

  32. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. Luke 5:6‭-7
Brother Mark Morgan preached this is the kind of Revival God wants to give us. Notice the revival was so great that one church had to ask another church to help with the Harvest. When we get to the point that we don’t care who gets the souls as long as they get into the Kingdom, then we’re being Kingdom-Minded and perhaps God could trust us with this kind of revival!

  33. God wants to perform more miracles for the believers. We need to move doubt out and let faith prevail. Don’t underestimate what God is able to do. His power is above all

  34. 10 His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.

Now that we are servants of God, we are all fishing for people who need God. Take every opportunity to speak to someone when it comes. Let them know about God, and invite them to church.

  35. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

If we just would always obey the Word of the Master we would see constant and great things happen on our lives.

  36. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

Jesus knew very well that Simon and his fishermen crew had toiled all night with no profit. To ask Simon Peter to let down his net in a deeper area is a test of faith. Will they obey? If the task seems hollow will we refuse? Jesus is wondering if we are willing vessels to do the unthinkable naturally for him to move in the spiritually miraculous.

  37. Lord may my obedience to your word and direct command always be met with swift action. Trusting that you know best and will have a direct impact on my destiny within your Kingdom. I want to add souls to the kingdom, not be a hindrance.

  38. I learned that a paralyzed man was carried on a mat t and was going to see Jesus but the crowd was to packed and they had to carry him upstairs and get through the tile and Jesus said young man stand and the Pharisees said only god can say that and Jesus said I will prove God can give authorities to people and Jesus said stand pick up your mat and go home and the man got up and praised god on his way home

  39. 30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

The truth is we all need the Physician! The ones that say they don’t, are oblivious to there spiritual sickness.

    Jesus said this:
    Luke 19:10 (NIV)
10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Thats it! And if we have another agenda, we are out of His will!

  40. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”

Many people that I have talked to when I invite them to church (adults) have told me that they shouldn’t go to church because they are living a sinful and unpleasing life that displeases God. They believe that God loves them but are under the impression that they need to be right to go to church. I just wonder….if they know they are living wrong? Why would they not want to fix thier life that IS pleasing to God!! It hurts me because just as I love my children even when they are bad, how much more does God love us when he literally designed up and created us!!! Jesus Help Us!!!
