Luke 15

Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?

And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.

10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:

12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:

24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.

26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.

27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.

29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

  1. Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?

This Pharisee, as well as others, seems to have had an ill design in entertaining Jesus at his house. But our Lord would not be hindered from healing a man, though he knew a clamour would be raised at his doing it on the sabbath. It requires care to understand the proper connexion between piety and charity in observing the sabbath, and the distinction between works of real necessity and habits of self-indulgence. Wisdom from above, teaches patient perseverance in well-doing.

  2. Jesus is obsessed with lost things.
The lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son, in every situation there is great rejoicing when the lost is found. The sheep seemed to have innocently wandered off, so the shepherd went after it. The coin somehow got separated from the rest, so the owner stopped everything else and searched till she found it. The son, however, chose to walk away. He made a conscious decision to forsake his father’s house. In this case, the father didn’t go after him, but waited longingly for him to return and then accepted him with loving arms when he did.

I think we can learn from these scenarios that God loves the lost regardless of why or how they got that way. Some of them we need to go after immediately, put them gently on our shoulders, and carry them back to the flock. Some we have to search diligently and work a little harder for in order to restore them. Others, we need to just love from afar and pray and wait on them in constant intercession until God leads them back home. Finally, we can learn from all these stories that giving up is not an option. We should never be content to leave anyone lost or backslidden; if we are not chasing them with our feet, we should be chasing them with our prayers.

  3. Luke 15
2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

    Lost & Found
    Three different situations.
First got busy with the cares of life grazing in the pasture and wondered off.

The second was an accident no intention of losing the coin. Just got lost in the midst of the other coins

The third was a prodigal already part of the Kingdom.

This is how the Kingdom is made up. The shepherd seeking for the sheep. The woman diligently looking for her coin. The son welcomed back into the house.

We all were once lost and the Savior sought for us until we were found.

Lost and Found I’m so glad He found me He keeps searching . Oh how He cares for the lost . Lord lead us daily in your ways. In Jesus name.
    Will we

  4. 1 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

The Pharisees were notorious for categorizing people in accordance to their social status, much like today, they had people that were the hierarchy of politics, they had regular people that were considered sinners, they had the religious leaders and finally they had those that were sick which were cast aside from the city. The Pharisees knew there was something about Jesus and categorized him with religious leaders, which is why they murmured against him for sitting with sinners. If they had seen him as a regular man or a had noticed him as anything other than a religious person then it would not have bothered them to see him with sinners. I believe this is important to recognize because it lets us know that they had a respect under him at first and Jesus cared nothing about the title that they assumed he carried. It does not matter how great person we think we can be or how high up in the ranks we want to go, we are never too high that we cannot reach down and pull people up that need us the most. If we’re going to have a reputation for anything it should be that we spend too much time ministering to those of a less social status

  5. 31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

In other words, you’ve already been saved, you’ve already received your reward – you already have access to everything your father has!! My Father is the King of kings and what’s His is mine so long as I am faithful by His side.

Rejoice like the father of this parable when the lost start coming home – it’s already been prophesied! They are coming home to their reward and if all of heaven rejoices, so will I!!

  6. THY KINGDOM COME
    GET UP AND GO

17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

The greatest revelation that I have been privileged to receive is the power of repentance toward GOD and man. Spiritual growth is not possible without repentance toward GOD and unity in the body of Christ (Church) is not possible without repentance toward man.

Repentance begins within a person, as we witness here with the younger son. “He came to himself” this seems to be the greatest challenge of REPENTANCE. Our ability to recognize our need to REPENT.

This passage also dispels the fear that satan attempts to fill the heart of a sinners and backsliders with. “Rejection”. So many people who have failed GOD are afraid to return because of uncertainty of how they will be received or accepted. But, the Father ran to meet him.

The surest walk with JESUS is to approach REPENTANCE as a privilege and not a task. REPENTANCE is man recognizing our need for GOD and our willingness to GET UP AND GO do something about it.

REPENTANCE makes HEAVEN HAPPY and hell hateful.

10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

  7. 20 And he arose, and came to his father.

  8. St. Luke 15:17-18
    17) And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
    18) I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee.

It’s already been prophesied more than once that Backsliders Are Coming Home.
I pray everyday for the backsliders to “come to themselves – to come to their senses” and realize how good they had it living for Jesus. That they would once again “hunger” for the things of HIM.

Keep Praying and Believing because the Backsliders Are Coming Home!!

  9. 31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

We rejoice to see people come back to God! God loves us all and is especially worried when we leave this truth-no matter the reason. We rejoice as Heaven rejoices over souls who come home. I pray for a great revival of backsliders to come home to the apostolic church and believe we will see this just ahead.

  10. Luke 15
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is foun

  11. 25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.

Like this young man are many that choose not to see what GOD sees……..

    Luke 15:22 NLT

Isn’t it so true? When we are redeemed from a life of sin and death God just wraps us in His loving arms, draws us close, gives us a new appearance wraps us in new attire, and places a ring of authority on our finger. Rings back then always symbolized importance and Authority and I just love that because that’s exactly what He does. He reminds us that when we walk in the power of the Holy Ghost we have authority. Hallelujah

  15. 6,
That shepherd summoned his friends and neighbor’s to the lost sheep. This speaks of the saviors joy in seeing a sinner repent.

    20
Daringly Jesus pictured God, not waiting for his shamed child to slink home, nor standing on his dignity when He shamed and ragged and muddied as he was, to his welcoming arms. The same Father has at once darkened the color of sin and heightened the splendid glory of forgiveness.

  16. Josiah: 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
Every lost soul we meet is a potential person we can witness to and maybe give a Bible study to. We should not judge whether someone would be interested but we should just do the will of Jesus. So, let us GO WITNESS IN JESUS NAME!

  17. 1 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?

How can we reach the sinners if we do not communicate with them? We must be willing to share lunch with someone, invite someone to coffee build a relationship with them in order to lead them to the cross. Oh yes we do outreach tagging doors and talking to people to get them to the Sanctuary. However, that is not enough. When they come through our doors we must be willing to build a lasting relationship with them, replacing some of the relationships they have in the world. No one like to go somewhere that they don’t know anyone – it’s foreign territory to them. We must be the first to speak to them, introduce ourselves, involve them in conversation and start the path to a lasting relationship.

  18. This is one of the most wonderful things about Jesus. He is always there. He stays faithful and never ever leaves you behind. I’ve been lost before and I’ve strayed away but he has always been there. He welcomed me back with open arms. Feels so good knowing that we have a father who loves is so much. Angels rejoice upon our return and repentance. Whether you have gone astray or was lost to your flesh he always finds away to bring you back. This is Amazing Grace!!!

  19. His wisdom is so great that He needed everyone to understand so He increase the value of that soul as He told the parables. With the sheep is 1 out of 100, with the coin it’s 1 out of 10, and with the sons is 1 out of 2 which is a 50%. As we read we may see the indignation of the faithful son but don’t worry you see the faithful by all definition will never leave God’s side it is the most we need to have a burden for. The ones that need to return to His loving arms that needs is the most. Outreach should never be limited to Saturday’s at 9:45 am YES IT IS IMPORTANT, but OUTREACH should be a daily thing, our lives should be the biggest outreach tool we have. Outreach should take place everyday, in our daily routines, wherever we go for His burden for the lost should be our Burden!!!! Bring our brothers and sisters home!!!! For that’s what they are and once we see them as our brothers and sisters won’t you do anything for them to return? Lord help us feel your burden for the lost and the prodigals, give us strength to persevere through it all, and teach us to never stop praying for their return. In Jesus Name Amen

  20. [Luk 15:2 KJV] 2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
Of course Jesus received and ate with sinners! He came to seek and to save the lost! Sinners were drawn to Him because He loved them. Lord, let people feel that love and compassion in us so they will be drawn to you in us, especially in Your House!!!!!
Jesus, the Master Teacher, then began to tell 3 parables: The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin, and The Lost Son.
[Luk 15:4 KJV] 4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and GO AFTER that which is lost, until he find it?
He went after the lost sheep! Let’s get after the lost in outreach and everyday life!
[Luk 15:8 KJV] 8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find [it]?
She was doing everything she could and seeking diligently for the lost coin.
[Luk 15:20 KJV] 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
God’s love never stopped believing, waiting and longing for the return of His lost one!

  21. “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away! And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”
    Luke 15:4‭-‬7‭, ‬9‭-‬10 NLT
Heaven rejoices when one sinner repents imagine what he does when more than one sinner repents much go and tell and bring the the shepherd’s home

  22. I’ve find that many people often overlook one of the important details of this parable. Jesus said, ‘What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.’

We recognize that the lost sheep was stranded in the wilderness alone. We recognize the great joy when it is found and the compassion shown as it is brought back into the fold. But how often do we take the time to consider that while that shepherd went looking for the one that was lost, he confidently left the other ninety-nine in the wilderness?

He obviously didn’t act in negligence… none of us would risk ninety-nine to recovery a single that was lost if there was great danger to those left behind. The shepherd however had taken the time to train that flock. He knew they would stay together and knew what they would do… and are shepherds today should be free to act with the same liberty!

When a shepherd needs to take the time to tend to the one, the remainder needs to recognize the need and keep on keeping on! It’s not time to drift away or become half hearted, it’s time to help and rejoice over that which was lost! It’s not time to become needy of attention, it’s time to encourage the one!

Jesus died for each of us as an individual. We aren’t saved because of whom we associate with our whom we’re related to… we’re saved because we as an individual choose to respond to his love for us. He gives us this parable which clearly demonstrates the value of the individual. The angels even rejoice at the repentance of the individual sinner. We should recognize the value and always be willing to reach out a helping hand to the one!

  23. It is important to not lose sight of the importance of bringing the lost into or back into the church. If God died for all of us why wouldn’t we want to share His goodness with all!? God is great and I want to be sure that in all I am doing that I do not lose sight of the importance of even just one soul coming to God! Praise the Lord for He is great!

  24. iLove the Kingdom
“And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:2

This sounds crazy, but I never caught the reason the story of the prodigal was first given by Jesus until just now… you at the context here, the Pharisees were accusing Jesus of eating with sinners and so Jesus gives the parable of the prodigal. The lesson here is really focused toward comparing the Pharisees with the elder brother who was upset about not getting a fat 🥩 steak

  25. “It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:32‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Keep on prophesying!
We should be prophesying that our lost loved ones are coming home. That are families are gonna be saved. Once dead but now ALIVE once lost but now FOUND. It ain’t over keep claiming it in Jesus name!

  26. Luke 15:7-8 (English Amp) Thus , I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one [ especially] wicked person who repents ( changes his mind, aborting his errors and misdeeds , and determines to enter upon a better course of life) than over ninety-mine righteous persons who have no need of repentance. [8] Or what women, having ten silver drachmas [ each one equal to a day’s wages]. If loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and look carefully and diligently until she finds it ? Repent, Rejoice, Heaven and the Angels are rejoicing because a sinner is coming back home. It’s are ready been prophesied in our church many times. We ready to help hand to hand.

  27. The lost sheep, the lost coin, and the last son. There is definitely one thing that is in the heart of God. The Lost. That is his treasure and wants that all would come to repentance. If we want to touch Gods heart we need to help find the lost.

for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
    Luke 19:10 NKJV

  28. 8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

It is worth it for just one.

JESUS would come back for just one, the power of one. One choice, one faith, one baptism, one Lord, one Faith. It is worth it for one. ONE GOD!!!! if you have six zeros in a line 000000 it is just six zeros, but if you add a 1 in front of the six zeros it becomes 1,000,000. The power on one. Because of one man’s sins the whole world pays for sin, but because of One God who robed himself in flesh, saved the world. The power of one!

  29. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

He called two types of people his friends and neighbors. The people that were in his circle and also the people he showed compassion to. Let us understand that in times of rejoicing we can call on two people to rejoice with us our friends and our neighbors. Each have seen what we’ve lost. They’ve seen us when we had it and mourned with us when we didn’t. I bet they even helped us try to get “IT” back but none the less they will be who we call when “IT” returns.

  30. 1 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

When you have the power and authority of the Lord the people of this world will draw near to the Lord and the Holy Ghost that lives in us!

  31. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Heaven will always rejoice when a sinner comes to repentance. Jesus sat and ate with sinners in attempt than some may come to repentance. He performed miracles, casting out demon, healing the sick and raising the dead so that some may believe and turn from sin. He is willing to leave the 99 to find the one and sweep the whole house to find a lost coin. The repeated message here is the search for the lost. However, the lost are all around us, not aware of their condition or content with sin. To reach one is something worthy of praising God over.

  32. ““When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger!”(‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

This verse I learned that it’s important to not lose sight in common sense and since the young man was convicted and it caught hold of him. He realized that he didn’t want to die of starvation with the stubbornness to repent and ask his fathers forgiveness.

  33. Verses 31-32 MSG “His father said, ‘Son, you don’t understand. You’re with me all the time, and everything that is mine is yours—but this is a wonderful time, and we had to celebrate. This brother of yours was dead, and he’s alive! He was lost, and he’s found!’” Never give up on what seems to be lost….just keep praying, just keep seeking and don’t stop until you find it again.
