John 16

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

“It is expedient for you that I go away”
Meaning that it is better for YOU that He goes away, having Him in our hearts is better than having in with us

  2. These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
    John 16:1‭, ‬33 KJV

This chapter is bracketed with Jesus warning of trouble in this life, and giving us two possible ways of handling it:
    1. Getting offended
    2. Being cheerful and at peace
    Wow! What completely different reactions!

What’s not at question in this conversation is whether we will experience hardship. Jesus was plain; we will have tribulation, sorrow, heartache, persecution, unanswered questions, etc. The only thing at doubt is what our reaction will be when we face tribulation without deliverance. Will we get offended? Or will we rejoice that we are counted worthy to suffer for His name sake? Will we be fearful, depressed, and shaken in our faith? Or will be at peace and patiently endure unto the end?

John the Baptist faced cruelty, persecution, imprisonment, and death thinking that Jesus would come deliver him. When that didn’t happen, he began to doubt whether Jesus really was the Messiah. He doubted all that God had spoken to him and shown him. Jesus’ response was to tell him, “blessed is he who is not offended in me.”

Being at peace, rather than being offended, is only possible when our eyes are set on the heavenly prize. If we are living for this life, then we will be offended when things go wrong or when God doesn’t answer the way we desire. On the other hand, if we remember that this life is a vapor and “the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us,” then we can be at peace no matter what we go through.

Finally, no matter how badly things go, and no matter how alone we seem to be in our trials, Jesus gave us all we need to remember our heavenly promise and to be at peace. He sent us the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth. We can pray in the Spirit in our darkest hours, and His Truth will comfort our hearts with hope. As long as we can pray in Spirit and call on His name, “even the night shall be light about [us], (Psalms 139:11 KJV).

  3. 33. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

There is no problem too big
    God cannot solve it
There is no mountain too tall
    God cannot move it
There is no storm too dark
    God cannot calm it
There is no sorrow too deep
    He cannot soothe it

If He carried the weight of the world
    Upon His shoulders
I know my brother that He
    Will carry you
If He carried the weight of the world
    Upon His shoulders
I know my sister that He
    Will carry you

  4. Verse 33 AMP “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]” Know Jesus and Know Peace.

  5. 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. in the world you will have trib, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

  6. 27-31
In death ,the rich man suddenly become evangelistic. He wanted someone to go to his five brothers and warn them against coming to that place of torment . Abraham’s reply , was that these five brothers , being Jews had the O T scriptures ,and these should be sufficient to warn them . The rich man contradicted Abraham , stating that if one should go to them from the dead ,they would surely repent . However , Abraham had the last word . He stated that failure to listen to the Word of God is final . If people will not heed the Bible , they would not believe if a person rise from the dead . This is conclusively proved in the case of the Lord Jesus Himself. He arose from the dead, and men still do not believe.

  7. 33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

We will face tribulations. We will have problems and unfortunate situations, but that does not mean God is not with us! He is always with us – the God who has overcome all the world is with us to see us through. With Him we can and will hold our peace and in fact, rejoice in the tribulation and the glory to come!

  8. When that time comes, you won’t have to ask me about anything. I tell you for certain the Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name. You have not asked for anything in this way before, but now you must ask in my name. Then it will be given to you, so you will be completely happy.
    John 16:23‭-‬24 CEV

No matter how I feel, my circumstances around me, I must be abundantly joyful!

‘This joy that i have, the world didn’t give it to me.’
‘ the world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away!’
    Praise GOD❤

This Joy comes with peace, and a sound mind. Knowing that He takes care of me!!

  9. 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye
Might have peace. In the world he shall have tribulations: but be
Of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
    ———-
Our mind and eyes focus on Jesus at all times, and not on the things that constantly happen in this world and around us.

  10. 32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

This should alleviate any anxiety we may have over any matter, at the end if this whole journey, despite any thing we face, Christ has overcome it. No matter what the weapon is, we win. We are on the side of the deniable unchallenged God

  11. John 16:33 [Amp] I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [ perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and distress and frustration; But be of good cheer [ take courage; be confident, certain un-daunted] ! For I have overcome the world. [ I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for it. God gives perfect peace even in the storms of our lives. I am a overcomer with Jesus. I will keep my eyes on focus on Jesus and his peace. I bless this city of Ft. Worth with peace and love .

  12. John 15

  13. 32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

  14. THY KINGDOM COME
    CONQUERERS

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

JESUS is our example of “Where and What”. JESUS is also our source of “How”.

    The “How” The Holy Spirit

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

    The “What”

    MSG
31-33 Jesus answered them, “Do you finally believe? In fact, you’re about to make a run for it—saving your own skins and abandoning me. But I’m not abandoned. The Father is with me. I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.”

    The “Where”

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

In ALL Things. We WIN. We are more than Conquerors. Lets GO Win today for JESUS.

  15. 32 Take careful notice: an hour is coming, and has arrived, when you will all be scattered, each to his own home, leaving Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]

The promises of God are yeah and amen. Yes we will have trouble –

Job 14: 11 – Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down; he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.–My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

Yet we have guidance from His word, that just as He overcame the world and was victorious, we can overcome. We can rest in the peace that Jesus gives, and the confidence that we can be victorious.

    I’m a person of Destiny
    Grace and mercy follow me
    i know i’m an overcomer
    will always give praise
To the one who forever reigns
    In him i triumph everyday
So I will lift my voice and sing
    because praise preceds the victory

    I am Victorious

    will always give praise
To the one who forever reigns
    In him i triumph everyday
    Every battle has been won
    So ive already overcome
I will life my voice and sing
    Praise preceds the victory

    Living the best life
    Living the blessed life
    I am victorious

  16. “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall HEAR, that shall he SPEAK: and he will SHEW you things to come.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭16:13

When receiving something, the best way to receive it is to
    1. See it
    2. Speak it
    3. Hear it.
The scripture above says he, the Spirit of truth… thy word spirit has a capital letter S beginning at it so I know it’s talking about God/Holy Ghost.
So we want our family to be saved and friends to be saved but how much WORK are we putting into it. For them to receive Word (capital W so I’m talking about God) we must get them to do the 3 things See it, Speak it, Hear it.
So let’s put this into action today and spread some seed.

  17. iLove the Kingdom
19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

Jesus knows every one of our thoughts. Jesus knew they did not understand. Jesus knew they wanted to understand. And even after all this, Jesus continued to speak in parables and proverbs. Why? Because hearing these sayings and Words make a person think. When the revelation of the parable finally comes, it is a truth that is not easily taken away and the story remains etched in memory.

  18. John 16
    4-7
“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” RSV”

The departure of Jesus Christ had to be difficult for His disciples. It is so difficult to understand the statement that Jesus says if we read this passage with the natural eye. Who wants someone they love to leave (to die),to move away. Recalling even the actions of Peter after the death of Jesus to say He didn’t know Him. Was an act of grief. Yet Jesus says here that is to their advantage as ours also that He went away. The promise is fulfilled in the Book of Acts where the Holy Ghost was poured out. The Comforter the Counselor that was promised. If Jesus had not gone away the question would the disciples been able to experience the fullness of salvation ? No. There had to be the fulfillment for salvation. As spoken so many times if there are never loses then how would we know the One who can bring the comfort. He said Hecwoukd lead us into all truth. Truth that His Spirit would fill us with power to live in this world through each life situation. The painful loses challenges of life into the joy of His strength. Dependent on the Spirit Christ within us the Hope of Glory

Romans 8:2 King James Version (KJV)

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

To whom God was pleased to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.—Colossians 1:27

  19. You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.
    John 16:24 NLT

In the name of Jesus. Mountains fall, chains are broken, giants defeated, devils tremble and bow, people are liberated, and there is healing and power and authority. I bless Your Holy Name.

  20. 32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Unless we realize NOW that there is tribulation coming that we must endure, even to the end of our life, our faith could be shaken. Satan will be working overtime to try to overcome the saints physically and mentally. When tribulation came to the first church, it caused the message to spread like wildfire and the church GREW because of this adversity. We may have to leave the comforts of home but we can take the new birth message with us wherever we go.

  21. 33I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Even though we serve God, he tell us here “we will still have trials and sorrows” in our lives. Yes, we’ll experience pain physically and spiritually, but God will comfort us, and give us peace to endure.

  22. the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

  23. These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

Our Lord Jesus, by giving his disciples notice of trouble, designed that the terror might not be a surprise to them. It is possible for those who are real enemies to God’s service, to pretend zeal for it. This does not lessen the sin of the persecutors; villanies will never be changed by putting the name of God to them. As Jesus in his sufferings, so his followers in theirs, should look to the fulfilling of Scripture. He did not tell them sooner, because he was with them to teach, guide, and comfort them; they needed not then this promise of the Holy Spirit’s presence. It will silence us to ask, Whence troubles come? It will satisfy us to ask, Whither go they? for we know they work for good. It is the common fault and folly of melancholy Christians to look only on the dark side of the cloud, and to turn a deaf ear to the voice of joy and gladness. That which filled the disciples’ hearts with sorrow, was too great affection for this present life. Nothing more hinders our joy in God, than the love of the world, and the sorrow of the world which comes from it.

  24. St. John 16:10, 22, & 33
    10) Of RIGHTEOUSNESS, because I go to my Father,…
    22) … and your JOY no man taketh from you.
    33) … that in me ye might have PEACE….

Romans 14:17, “For the KINGDOM OF GOD is not meat and drink; but RIGHTEOUSNESS, and PEACE, and JOY in the Holy Ghost.”

  25. A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.

Amen!!! There is much pain but when you see your baby, everything goes away and turns into pure joy. The only true pure joy can be given by our God. You might think this or that makes you happy but it ain’t till the true joy of the Lord comes upon us that causes us joy through any trial or problem. The joy of the Lord is what gives us peace!! Despite all the evil that is around us we have the true God inside of us that gives us the true joy.!!! Thank You Jesus!!!

  26. “And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

The world didn’t give you joy and the world can’t take it away.
Often times, happiness and joy are compared to one another, but there is a significant difference between them, and that difference is Jesus!
Happiness is based on the circumstances around you, joy is constant in every season of life. Happiness has to do with my relationship with things, joy has to do with my relationship with God. Things change, moods change, emotions change, life changes. But God remains the same and that’s why you can find true joy in Him alone!

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
    John‬ ‭16:22, 33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus knew he was about to be rejected, humiliated, and crucified but instead of being comforted by the disciples, He offered them peace. How many times has He done the same for us?

Jesus promises us of tribulations to come, but He offers us peace.
Many people believe coming to God means no more tribulations, but as long as we live on this earth we can be sure of hard times . The difference is, in Jesus alone we can find peace and joy. The type of peace and joy the world can never give. We won’t find real peace anywhere else other than Jesus!

“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;”
    ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  27. But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.
    John 16:7 NLT
It was Best for the whole world that Jesus went to the cross! It was the only way that He could pour out His Spirit upon all flesh. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
    John 1:12 KJV

  28. Plain and straight

25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

Whenever you need deliverance in your life you need someone to be very plain and straight with you. Jesus didn’t pull any punches , so to speak, but he just made it understandable in the parables. Jesus the Almighty God brokenit down to our level sonthat we would be sure to get it. I love all kinds of preaching and it seams that the ones that really hit home are the plain and straight ones. Beautiful sermons are great and they make me want to swing from the lights but the plain and straight ones get the job done.

  29. 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

    Amen in Jesus name! 🤗🤗🤗🤗

  30. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

I couldn’t help to think of a close friendship. When we have a very close friendship we share with the person everything we are intending to do. We say things like what do you think of this? Or hey guess what I’m planning. We share with excitement our things to come. Thinking about this and our relationship with God it should be that not many things should catch us by surprise. And that we should be guided to all truth. A good friend seeks the best for his friends. Likewise God intends to lead us and tell us things to come. The question becomes have we gained God’s trust and friendship. Have we spent time talking with Him that you have built a relationship 2 way communication and appreciation?

  31. “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭16:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He did not leave us comfortless. He has Fulfilled his promise to us. He has given us power. He has given us His Spirit to lead and guide us.
“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:49‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  32. This passage provides us with an important caution in our walk with God. It opens with a reminder that Jesus said ‘These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.’ Note that he didn’t say discouraged, but offended. We don’t often see someone backslide just because they’re going through a difficult time, but because they get offended. The difficulties may have been an impetus, but the cause for their falling away is an offended spirit.

Jesus wasn’t taking about small offences either. He said, ‘They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.’ He lets us know that it’s still about him! We may be their immediate focus, but the problem is their lack of relationship with God… so we can’t afford to lose sight of our own relationship in the middle of it all!

So often you here someone asking why… what they really mean is why me. I have a walk with God, I’ve been faithful to him, and yet he’s allowed this to happen to me. ‘But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them.’ Remember it’s not about us, it’s about him! Don’t allow the enemy to use the situation to offend!

That’s why Peter also reminded us ‘Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you’ Trials and tribulations will come, but he assures us he’ll be right there with us through each and every one! We just have to keep our eyes fixed on him and not be distracted by the storm around us. In Jesus name!
