John 17

These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

  1. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
    John 17:4 KJV

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
    2 Timothy 4:7 KJV

Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
    2 Peter 1:13‭-‬15 KJV

… that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
    Colossians 4:12b KJV

Jesus, Paul, and Peter all knew they were called of God for a special purpose, all knew they were about to die, and all were still working to fulfill their purposes all the way to the end. There was no place in any of their lives where they set God’s call aside and just took a break for awhile. We don’t see them taking time off to follow their own dreams. They never turned in their retirement papers. They knew what they were called to do, and they were consumed with doing it. Fulfilling the will and plan of God was their dream; they had no other aspirations. Do we feel the same?

God has a plan for everyone of us. In order to be about our Father’s business, however, we must dedicate our hearts and ears to hearing His call. In the meantime, we busy ourselves with loving souls— God’s call always involved loving others. (I heard a preacher say one time that it is much easier to steer a moving vehicle.) If we will just begin ministering to others somewhere and in some way, God will begin to show us His specific purpose for our lives. Then it is up to us, through the help of the Spirit, to work the call, so that when our day comes, we can stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

  2. Verses 18-19 AMP “Just as You commissioned and sent Me into the world, I also have commissioned and sent them (believers) into the world. 19 For their sake [e]I sanctify Myself [to do Your will], so that they also may be sanctified [set apart, dedicated, made holy] in [Your] truth.” Let us go and do as we were commissioned to do, as the Lord is with us.

    Jesus Prays for All Believers
Verses 20-21 NIV “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

  3. 11. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

    14. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

    16. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

This world is not my home
    I’m just a passing through
    My treasures are laid up
    Somewhere beyond the blue
    The angels beckon me
    From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
    In this world any more

  4. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me , and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You, and they have believed that You sent Me.

  5. That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
    John 17:21 KJV

  6. 14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

We came into this world by the Word, and that is our sanctification, our sheld and our means of offense and defense. It is the Word that we pray and use for each other. This is how we will overcome the world, by the word of God. Jesus prayer here for his disciples illustrates how we should pray for ourselves and for each other. That we would continue to not be of this world and to not be taken out of it, but to stray from its ways and continue to be sanctified.

  7. 3,4
In the Christian life there is not only the Peril of offending others . There is also the danger of harboring grudger, of refusing to forgive when an offending person apologizes . That is what the Lord deals with here . The N T teaches the following procedure in connection with this subject.

    1. If a Christian is wrong by another Christian, he should first of all forgone the offender in his ( Eph. 4:32 ) . This keeps his own soul free from resentment and malice.

    2. When he should go to the offender privately and rebuke him ( Matt. 18:15 ) . If he repents then he should be told that he is Forgiven even if he sin repeatedly, then says that he repents , he should be forgiven

    3. If a private rebuke does not effective , then the person who has been wronged should take one two witnesses ( Matt. 18:16 ) . If he will not listen to those, then hematter should be taken before the church . Failure to hear the church should result in excommunication (Matt.18:17 ).

The purpose of rebukes and other disciplinary action is not to get even or to humiliate the offender, but to restore him to fellowship with the Lord and with the brothers.

  8. 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which
Thou hast given me; for they are thine.
    ———-
Those who the Lord called, and they said YES! those who
Long for the Lord, those who even in tribulations still stay faithful, those who can barely stay alive and still trust in the Lord, those who war against sin and come to God for strength, those who do the will of the Lord. Those whom the Lord called.those who really WANT TO……
Thank you Lord for your mercy.

  9. John 18-19 (English Amp) And for these alone do I pray [ it is not for their sake only that I make this request]. But also for all those who will ever come to believe in ( trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching, [ 21] That they all may be one, [ just] as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, Father, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me.Lord prays for all believers, I pray that all of Us will be sanctity, purify, holy, dedicated to the Lord not of this world. This world is not my home!

  10. 14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

  11. God has a place for us too we are loved by him and wants us to know that this is a temporary home. We are not of this world and should be like him in all his ways. When we come short of his glory he’s there to mold us and shape us into his marvelous light. Through him nothing is impossible he’s in us so that we can be like him. His power moves those giants that hinder our walk and faith in him.

  12. As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
    John 17:2‭-‬3 KJV

    John 17:2‭-‬3 KJVA
    JESUS is ture way
JESUS sacrificed his life so we could be save
In today’s chapter JESUS explain that JESUS and GOD is one no other name that can save he that seen the Father seen me

  13. John 17
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

  14. iLove the Kingdom

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

Praise the Lord, reading the Word “Washes” and Sanctifies the believer. Without reading the Word and allowing Him to reveal to us the Truth, we will remain “Unclean”. The Word is truth and that same Word cleanses us and makes us Holy. Everyone of us could use a little “Brain Washing”. Read the Word, obey the Word, and you shall be clean!

  15. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

Jesus points us to the apostles, that we should believe in what they teach us or what we call the apostolic doctrine. Jesus spent his ministry teaching these men and preparing them to establish the New Testament Church. He had the utmost confidence that they understood the message of being born again and blessed their labors with souls added to the kingdom. As we labor for the kingdom He will continue to add to the church daily.

  16. St. John 17:9-11 & 20-23
    9) I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou has given me; for they are thine.
    10) And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
    11) And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

    20) Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
    21) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
    22) And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.
    23) I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

  17. THY KINGDOM COME
    UNITY

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

JESUS is the believers example of purity and holiness. The underlying power of anointing is UNITY. The initial outpouring of the Holy Ghost reveals this powerful principal in Acts 2 where they were all in ONE Place in ONE Accord.

UNITY with JESUS is much easier to attain than UNITY with one another. We KNOW who JESUS is and HIS pure character. However we frail humans are still subject to deal with the flesh and its desires and our own personal wills often collide with those whom we serve.

However to witness The KINGDOM of GOD in our lives we must humble ourselves and become ONE with JESUS and with each other. Lets consider today how we can serve JESUS through serving one another.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo
    iBlessYouInTheNameOfTheLordJESUS

  18. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

We have been sent into this world and God has spoken for us to go in unity, joy, and sanctification (holiness/separation from the evil of this world). We are not of this world, but we are called and sent to it just as He was to reach the lost and bring them to Him in salvation. We have a duty, let’s GO in Jesus Name!

  19. “Your word is consecrating truth.
In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world,
I give them a mission in the world.
I’m consecrating myself for their sakes
So they’ll be truth-consecrated in their mission.” 18-19 MSG

The Word is the way to reach this world! Through every circumstance and situation, we can find a Word to uplift or even correct. We should be reading the Word every day, disgusting the Word every day, sharing the Word every day. We as the Word of God says should be Word-consecrated every day!

  20. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

What a great testimony of how the Lord cared for us while He walked this earth. When His time came He gave an account for the souls that He cared for while here. Can we do the same? Who have I encouraged today? Who have I contacted and invited to the Sanctuary of the Lord this week? Who have I told about JESUS? Have I given them the WORD – the Bread of Life that it might sustain them? When I give an account to the Lord – I want it to be a good report!

  21. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth. NLT

In order to be made holy we must sacrifice ourselves. We can’t be carnal and spiritual at the same time. We either please the flesh or the spirit. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. We must know that we must die so God can live in us. God is not going to be in a dirty, filthy temple but a pure and holy temple. Lord help me die daily to this flesh!!

  22. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
    20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Sanctification only comes from GOD ,if we say that we have JESUS and still do what the flesh wants, then there is no sanctification. Sanctification comes from reading the WORD OF GOD

  23. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth

    Sanctify:
    To make holy
to separate from profane things and dedicate to God
    consecrate things to God
    dedicate people to God
    to purify
    to cleanse externally
to purify by expiation: free from the guilt of sin
to purify internally by renewing of the soul

Any vessel that was used in the temple, first had to be sanctified. If we are going to be vessels in the Kingdom of God, we too must first be sanctified through the word of God.

So how does the word of God sanctify us?
Well the word “sanctify” means to be made holy, to purify, and to be separate.
His word sanctifies us by revealing to us how to be holy and separated.

He declared that we are not of this world, now He is telling us to be set apart from this world!

“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”
    ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  24. ““I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.

Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭17:6, 11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I’ve never noticed that Jesus said “ I have manifested Your name” and “keep through Your name” The Name has power and it is significant. So thankful for the revelation of the power of the name of Jesus.

“And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.””
    ‭‭John‬ ‭17:26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  25. We are one

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

We are all of the same body in Christ. He is with us, and we are together with Him. We must remember that when things come between brothers and sisters, we must resolve those things. Thank you Jesus for his forgiving blood that washed my sins away, that he took those things down to hell where they are kept and never remembered. My God, my Saviour Jesus.

  26. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

    20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

  27. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

How did I not see this before…? Jesus praying for the Church (that was not yet established) but would be built by the believers of the Gospel that the disciples carried out. And of all things He could have prayed for…He prayed for unity! How can we get anything accomplished for the Kingdom if we’re not working as one full body?
    Friendship, bonds, relationship, trust, unity!!!

  28. 14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

  29. Jesus gives us a great example of perspective here. He said ‘I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.’ His prayer was with those that follow him!

We cannot save the world, we reach individuals that are in the world and help them separate themselves from the influence of the sin that has them bound. Jesus declared he did not even pray for the world… because it’s end is already determined. His focus is upon those who have made that conscious choice to follow him!

Notice also that Jesus is glorified in those who follow him… not on their influence in the world. God is disgusted by the world and his intention is to destroy it. That’s why we can’t afford to be attached to this present world… because He is glorified by the very things in our life that the world opposes. When we choose to follow him rather than the desires of this world, Jesus declared that his prayers are with us, because we are his! The Holy Ghost will sustain us because greater is he that is in is than he that is in the world.

  30. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
    John 17:15‭-‬17 KJV
God wants us to stay in the world to influence it for good. One of the ways He keeps us from the evil of this world is through His Word. His Word separates us and sanctifies us. It makes a hedge of protection around us if we obey it but if we disobey the Word, we open ourselves up to the enemy. He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
    Ecclesiastes 10:8 KJV

  31. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
    John 17:3 KJV

Etern life lies in Knowing God, and Jesus, the word made flesh, or the message the first sent among those that are sent to proclaim boldly the good news of salvation. Not that there is God and Jesus 2 but God and is Word, made flesh, or His massage. Without knowing the message, Jesus, we cannot have access to the Kingdom or eternal life; for Jesus, the Word is the only way and door to the Father.

  32. 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

Threw all my trials and tribulations mistakes and achievements I still have to realize all God did,is doing, and will do for me! Nothing compares to the greater sacrifice of Jesus giving his life to let me be free from sin!

  33. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

    20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

  34. These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

Our Lord prayed as a man, and as the Mediator of his people; yet he spoke with majesty and authority, as one with and equal to the Father. Eternal life could not be given to believers, unless Christ, their Surety, both glorified the Father, and was glorified of him. This is the sinner’s way to eternal life, and when this knowledge shall be made perfect, holiness and happiness will be fully enjoyed. The holiness and happiness of the redeemed, are especially that glory of Christ, and of his Father, which was the joy set before him, for which he endured the cross and despised the shame; this glory was the end of the sorrow of his soul, and in obtaining it he was fully satisfied. Thus we are taught that our glorifying God is needed as an evidence of our interest in Christ, through whom eternal life is God’s free gift.

  35. 25“O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me. 26 I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.”

Jesus, sounds like he is speaking as a regular man. He is talking to God, as each of us should. He is asking God, to watch over men, guard them teach them, and praying for them. Jesus is fixing to leave this world, and wants to make sure men are safe, guarded, blessed, taught and saved prior to leaving.
