Acts 12

Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.

20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.

21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

  1. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

We were created to worship GOD and ONLY GOD, with that purpose and to not give GOD THE GLORY, is PRIDEFUL of something that we could have never done without GOD!!! Why does this happen!?! PRIDE……..but even as prideful as he was his death gave GLORIFIED GOD!!! Either we do it willingly in life or…… there is no other option!!!

  2. 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

Can say that God is good and his mercy endures forever. I stand amazed that even with the word of God established and even then God loosed the chains and broken the bonds that held Peter, even through the deepest part of the prison and all the soldiers that held Peter captive, God delivered him.

When we look at those that we are praying for God to break the chains and loose them from the bindings Of addictions and temptations of this world, I say hold fast for redemption drawer nigh. No matter the strong holds of the world, we are mighty through God to the pulling down the strongholds because our weapons are not carnal but mighty through the spirit of God and the authority of the Holy Ghost that is within us.

No matter how distressed it looks, God is always on time. But we have to know it’s his timing and not ours. It’s his will and not ours.

    I love thy Kingdom!

  3. So Peter was kept in prison, but fervent and persistent prayer for him was being made to God by the church.

    Persistant Prayer!!!!
Praying the will of GOD can change things!!

    Pray without ceasing.

    “ANGELS”
Hebrews 1:14, “Are THEY not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”
Psalms 34:7, “The ANGEL of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
Psalms 91:11, “For he shall give his ANGELS charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

Thank You JESUS for the ANGELS you send to minister for us, deliver us, and keep us!

    BUT PRAYER

5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

The church of JESUS has an adversary that has a mission of hindering and silencing the Church. We learn the adversarial tactics as we witness them revealed here in the book of Acts.

The adversary had a plan for Peter and when it appeared that plan was being fulfilled, there was a powerful force ignored.

    BUT PRAYER

No matter how deep the valley, how high the mountain, how sharp the pain, how dark the night, how far the prize, how lonely the heart, how shattered the dream, how strong the hold, how tough the situation.

BUT PRAYER was made without ceasing of the church.

We must never underestimate the power of PRAYER. We must never discount the value of PRAYER. Remember as long as we can PRAY in JESUS name, we have hope and anything is possible.

  7. 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

  8. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

The prayer of the church sets captives free! We must keep praying, we must keep interceding, there are souls depending on our prayers church!

  9. 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

God has a plan for each of our lives, whether in the ministry or in a supporting ministry. He will open the doors for us to go through to accomplish his will. So, don’t give up or go back when the Way seems to be shut. Pray without ceasing and wait upon God.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

  10. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

They were paying but didn’t believe. How can you have faith for something but still not believe it could happen. Good is what the church did here. They were praying for Peters release but when God delivered him to their front door, they refused to believe it has been done. I think we must examine our faith daily, we should worship and praise when God answers our prayer.. Not be surprised.

  11. 11 And when Peter had come to himself, he said, how I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectations of the Jewish people.

  12. When vision becomes reality.

4And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

When does a vision become reality? When does a dream become more than just an idea? For most people, they cannot get pasted the first stage. When a dream or vision comes to them, they say, “that was cool, too bad I’ll never see that.” Do we really allow our lives, determine what we do that much? Do we allow our self perception determine what we can and connot do? What if I told you it took two easy steps. One is to have faith in God, and the second one is putting action with that faith. What would happen if a designer for the railroad system came up against a mountain, and there was a city on the other side l, and the only way to get to it was too go through the mountain? We would think of this designer as a failure because we know that trains go through mountains on a daily basis. But that designer knows what the vision is, and knows what they have too do. They have to go through the mountain, therefore they have to get people, machines, and explosives in place. They make it happen. Lastnight at our hyphen event, it was preached to move in, when we dont understand what is going on, we must keep moving forward. Life doesn’t stop for no one. People are born and die every day. It rains somewhere in the world, its dry and hot, babies cry, people hurt, and out of all that, GOD IS STILL GOD AND HE IS OUR SAVIOUR.

Our dreams and visions are only hindered by ourselves. It’s that simple, and once we understand that and get over that. Through God anything can happen. As long as we trust him, we make room for Him to move, and we keep moving forward.
    HIS KINGDOM IS HERE.

  13. And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
    Acts 12:11 KJV

And when he [the prodigal son] came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
    Luke 15:17‭-‬18 KJV

In both these instances, the men “came to themselves.” This seems to be the Bible way of saying they had an epiphany or revelation of truth that they should have already known—they came to their senses and started thinking right thoughts.

Whether we are acting the fool (like the prodigal) or just not believing the grace of God that is right in front of our eyes (like Peter), we all need more ‘come to ourselves’ moments. We need to replace the ‘stinkin thinkin’ that justifies sin, hinders repentance, feeds unbelief, or discounts the grace of God in our lives. May God give us all a greater revelation of the lies we’ve believed and the truth we need to replace them with.

  14. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

The angel of the Lord walked Peter completely out of the prison and he was free. Our faith and our prayer life should be strong enough that we dispatch angels to deliver people from the prison they are in.

  15. iLove the Kingdom
15And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
16But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

Sometimes we think the folks in the Bible were somehow different than we are in the fact that so many miracles happened. We think they somehow had so much more faith than we do today… The thing about it is, when we read things in the Word (like this chapter) it confirms that the first church had elements of unbelief too. The thing about it is, God is good and we must put our trust in Him. We will see miracles, believe it till you see it.

  16. Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

James was one of the sons of Zebedee, whom Christ told that they should drink of the cup that he was to drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that he was to be baptized with, Matthew 20:23. Now the words of Christ were made good in him; and if we suffer with Christ, we shall reign with him. Herod imprisoned Peter: the way of persecution, as of other sins, is downhill; when men are in it, they cannot easily stop. Those make themselves an easy prey to Satan, who make it their business to please men. Thus James finished his course. But Peter, being designed for further services, was safe; though he seemed now marked out for a speedy sacrifice. We that live in a cold, prayerless generation, can hardly form an idea of the earnestness of these holy men of old. But if the Lord should bring on the church an awful persecution like this of Herod, the faithful in Christ would learn what soul-felt prayer is.

  17. Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, “Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists.
Acts of the Apostles 12:7 NLT

When the Lord has a work for us to do we can’t waste time stuck in our own situations and issues of life. With a simple Word from God we can be freed and a way made for us to serve Him with gladness, fully liberated from anything trying to hold us back. Hallelujah!

  18. [Act 12:1, 21-23 KJV] 1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth [his] hands to vex certain of the church. … 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. 22 And the people gave a shout, [saying, It is] the voice of a god, and not of a man. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
Nothing can stop God’s church, not a king, not a prison, not a crucifixion, and definitely not persecution. In fact, persecution caused the Word to spread and multiply. This chapter shows king Herod vexing the church but by the end of it, he is smitten by the angel of the Lord. You cannot fight against God and win!

  19. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

Gird Myself and follow Jesus, he made my chains of sin and addiction, and hate fall of! Lord help us to follow you, not my will but your will Jesus!

  20. Acts 12
15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

Believe or not God does answer prayer.

  21. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

Pray for those who need to be set free. It’s in our power and we should never cease.

  22. 16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

One simple yet powerful thought I got from this chapter. We should keep on praying, or like it reads pray without ceasing until your answer comes knocking at your door. Never are we encouraged to stop praying but rather are shown that consistent prayer changes things and gives an answer. Prayer is our connection to God and it is the way that we are more powerful.

  23. “Meanwhile, the word of God continued to spread, and there were many new believers.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭12:24‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Spread the seed of God’s Word!! It’s sowing seed into the harvest. I’m thankful for the harvest. Lord help us with labor to assimilate many new believers into the Kingdom.

  24. Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!” “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.” But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.
    Acts 12:13‭-‬16 NIV

No matter how many times people say no or they dont believe in Jesus. We must be persistent and continue to knock and spread His Word because one day they will believe and answer the door.

  25. Here is Peter in a prison cell the night before his trial, He’s between soldiers, bound with two chains, with sentries standing guard at the entrance—-and Peter is sleeping (Acts 12:1-6).

The only way you can sleep in a storm is by realizing that God is with you. Isaiah said : You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3

  26. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

We must be careful in who we’re giving the glory. Yes God will use us but doesn’t mean that we’re going to get the glory. He is the only one that makes things happen and if he wants to use us praise God, thank you Jesus!!! Your the only one Lord that should be getting the glory, by your mercy I am standing Lord. Thank you for everything you do Lord!! It’s all for your glory Lord!!

  27. Peter could not believe what was happening to him in this chapter, as he thought he was dreaming; while Rhoda was so excited/eager to tell everyone Peter was there that she forgot to open the door. We must wake up and have “High Expectancy” and not get so involved in the things of this world that we forget to open the door to our miracle.

  28. “and an appointment with Herod was granted. When the day arrived, Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and made a speech to them. The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, “It’s the voice of a god, not of a man!” Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭12:21-23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We must give God all the Honor and Glory for everyone and be careful to take credit for what God did.

  29. 15“You’re out of your mind!” they said. When she insisted, they decided, “It must be his angel.”

Many will say this to church members. Or say “I can’t believe you have to do this or that at church.” Or you spend a lot of time at church. Or miracles don’t happen. Once the relationship develops with God, they realize it was a serving attitude you have with God and for others.

  30. Acts 13 : 24 [amp] But the Word of the Lord concerning , the attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God] continued to grow and spread. We must keep on being leaders and servers for God kingdom . I believe that we going to see our community come to come to God in these last days. Give on reaching and praying for our city ! In Jesus name.
