Acts 14

And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

And there they preached the gospel.

And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:

The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.

  1. And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
    Acts 14:19 KJV

And cast him [Stephen] out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul…
And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem;…As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
    Acts 7:58 – 8:1‭, ‬3 KJV

Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I [Paul] am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned…
    2 Corinthians 11:23‭-‬27 KJV

The laws of God apply to everyone. Even Paul, chosen of God as he was to start churches and write much of the New Testament, could not avoid reaping what he had sown. God gave him the grace to endure the harvest of persecution and suffering which he had planted, and even used that suffering for the eternal good of others, but He did not cancel the harvest.

I imagine that every time Paul endured a stoning, beating, or imprisonment he remembered the faces and anguish of those he had inflicted the same punishments upon. Perhaps knowing that Jesus completely forgave him, in spite of his many cruelties, gave him the steadfastness to keep preaching that same mercy to others who were constantly abusing him.

  2. 9. The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

    10. Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

Paul could see that this man had faith – are we letting our faith show? Can others see that we have faith in what we are telling them to believe?

  3. 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

    Continue in the faith!!

  4. 27 Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. So they stayed there a long time with the disciples.

  5. 21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,
22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

They never stop preaching. No matter what accusations were made and no matter what people try to sway them against they continued steadfastly in the faith and encourage others to do so as well. When your mind is made up you cannot be stopped because the power of God pushes you past every obstacle

  6. Acts 14 :21-22[ Amp] When they had preached the good news ( Gospel) to that town and made disciples of many of the people, they went back to Lystra and Iconium and Antioch, [22] Establishing and strengthening the souls and the hearts of the disciples, urging and warning and encouraging them to stand firm in faith, and [ telling them] that it is through Mary hardships and tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. They never stop preaching no matter what they had to go through. When your mind is made up, Nothing is going to stop you. Keep on praying and encouraging people to do the same. I bless you in the name of the Jesus.

  7. 26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

  8. 15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

It is time that we the church become the voice of God. Becoming more bolder, louder, and passionate about the kingdom of God.

It seems to me that the old saying, the squeaky wheel gets all the grease. It’s time that America know that without God they are only diving further in the entrapment of sin. Just as Timothy spike in the last days there will be perilous times. We are in the midst of these times and it’s time for the church’s voice to be heard. We can no longer be afforded the idea that we have plenty of time. We are living on borrowed time and God is getting ready to call his church away.

    Come Lord Jesus come!

    I love thy Kingdom!

  9. iLove the Kingdom
2But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

There are always folks that cause issues in the Church. The most dangerous are those who stir up new believers. At POFW, we have been blessed to keep good fellowship with good folks for the most part. The Lord has been the One who has seen to it that those who would try to bring division wouldn’t be here long. We must work together as a team and protect the new believers minds from being poisoned by those who really do not believe the gospel.

  10. Acts 14

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

    New International Version
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

ISM made paper boats this past Friday. Each student decorated their boats. Some write scriptures on their boat others put tape on the button to keep it from getting wet each boat was unique in its own way. We proceeded outside where there were two 5 feet gutters waiting for these boats to race against one another. The object of getting the boat to the finish line was to blow through a straw. Easier said than done. As each student participated with their boat against another
the excitement began. I watched as some boats began to sink , other boats were dealing swiftly. Some students when they thought they were losing quit . Some had difficulty blowing enough air to keep it moving . The rules were air through the straw only. I watched as some in the challenge started pushing the boat with straw and some biTs even that had began to sink they still were trying.
Challenges are going to come as we reach for the Kingdom if God. Tribulations will come. Adversity and opposition will rise. But as challenges come we cannot give up . We must continue in this races. Paul faced a lot of opportunity to quit but he knew where God had brought him from. We must preserve we must not give in when trials and tribulations come. There is a grand prize at the end that we cannot even perceive in our human nature. At the end of the ISM youth boat races there were three prizes. 1st 2 nd and a constellation prize. Each winner had finished the race . Each were equally delighted at their prizes. We must finish. It’s nit the one who even runs or sails the swiftest in life but the one who finishes the race. Fall down get up. Make a mistake sayi I’m sorry. We can finish even in the midst of tribulations! The Gid that brought us this far will keep us daily.

    Romans 8:18
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

    Hebrews 10:35
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

    Romans 12:12
    Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

    Mark 4:17
And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.

    John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

  11. 27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

  12. 5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

7 And there they preached the gospel.

Despite all the difficulties before them, they knew the Jesus that was in them was greater, so they kept moving and continued to preach His word.

On Friday night at the hyphen conference, we heard a message titled “Moving In”, and he talked about the walls of Jericho. One point he made was that, not everything is going to require a great fight. Some things require you to just keep moving.

Two of the things I took away from his message and was reminded with these verses is
    1. Keep Moving
    2. When working in the Kingdom of God, there will be many difficulties come before you, but if you continue to persevere, you will move into your promise!

  13. Unbelief

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

    Acts 14:4
The people of the city were divided. Some sided with the Jews, and others with the apostles.

    Acts 13:45
But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and they blasphemously contradicted what Paul was saying.

Unbelief if an evil weapon that the enemy uses to call division in peoples minds. When God is constantly giving truth because He is “the Way, the TRUTH, the Light” we cannot deny Him and what He is doing.

We cannot allow unbelief to creep into our lives but be watchful and fight against it. It often creeps in with other things like jealousy, offense, or backbiting. Satan knows that if he can cause something like jealousy or offense to come between two people it will discount everything that person represents and says.

Let us daily walk in the spirit and allow the spirit of discernment to be active in our lives. This will not only help us to identify the evil thoughts that the enemy is trying to plant in our minds but it will also help us see it in others. Not to talk about them but to talk to God for them that He may help them and cleans their minds. Pray that God would renew their mind and cause them to once again walk in the mind of Christ.

  14. Acts 14:17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

Even though all men have not received the special revelation of God’s written Word, all have received God‘s general revelation which is witnessed through the creation and man’s own nature making man without excuse if he rejects this
    Romans 1:18-20: 2:14,15
Romans 1 states that the context of general revelation is that God is holy and all-powerful. Acts 14:17 further states that He is good.

Psalm 145:16 About openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

  15. 26 Finally, they returned by ship to Antioch of Syria, where their journey had begun. The believers there had entrusted them to the grace of God to do the work they had now completed.

Sometimes we have to go back to where it all started in God. Reminding ourselves of our foundation built with Christ. We have to know where we came from to know where we are going. To know that we are constantly moving forward in Him.

  16. 27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.

What are we speaking about? They rehearsed all that God had done for them. Are we rehearsing to others what God is doing at POFW? If not, we should be. The word and evidence of faith and miracles in operation is what draws people in. Telling of the goodness of the Lord. It may not have been something that happened to me, but I can rejoice with what is happening to others and share their good news and God gets the glory!

  17. Vs 9-10
A lame man who.never had walked the same herd Paul speak who steadfastly beholding him and perceiving that he had faith to be healed
Said with a loud voice Stand upright on thy feet And he leaped and walked

  18. 20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Satan will not just lie down and allow the gospel to be preached in every city and every nation. Rather he will hold hard to the souls he has deceived. But thanks be to God that through his word, the ‘scales’ on the eyes of the blind can be removed and souls can be set free through repentance and the new birth.

  19. THY KINGDOM COME
    KINGDOM HARVEST

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,
22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

As we heard on Sunday Evening, the Harvest has a 3 step process Reaping, Threshing and Winnowing. The Harvest begins with sowing or planting seeds, then watering them with prayer, followed by the Reaping or gathering, then the threshing or processing of the harvest, to the winnowing or separating of the wheat from the tares (chaff or waste).

We witness this process by the preaching here in Acts 14. They confirmed the souls, kept good record of them, they taught them and exhorted them to continue in the FAITH and led them through their troubles to enter into The Kingdom of GOD.

I pray JESUS favor, empower and guide us through this KINGDOM HARVEST process in the city of Fort Worth and surrounding areas.

Lets GO sow and gather from the field of Family, Friends, Associates, Acquaintances, Neighbors, and even Enemies.

  20. “They preached the good news to that city and made many disciples, then they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, strengthening and establishing the hearts of the disciples; encouraging them to remain firm in the faith, saying, “It is through many tribulations and hardships that we must enter the kingdom of God.””
    ‭‭ACTS‬ ‭14:21-22‬ ‭AMP‬‬

The follow up after a person has been filled with the Holy Ghost is so important. In this verse it lets us know that they strengthened and established the new disciples and encouraged them to remain firm in the faith. This is Love In Action!

  21. Acts 14
6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:
7 And there they preached the gospel.
8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:
9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

  22. Acts 14:1, 6-7, 20-21
1)AND it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

    6) They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:
    7) And there they preached the gospel.

    20) Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he arose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
    21) And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch.

Paul and Barnabas were missionaries, and whatever city they were in, Iconium, Lystra, Derbe, and the region that lieth round about, they preached the gospel.
We are the Laborers that Pastor Watts preached about last night, and the city of Fort Worth and the regions that lieth around about it is our mission field. So whether we are in Fort Worth, Benbrook. Weatherford, Aledo, Stephenville, Lake Worth, River Oaks, Keller, Arlington, etc… We must preach the gospel and tell those we meet about Jesus.

  23. And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:

9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

The apostles spake so plainly, with such evidence and proof of the Spirit, and with such power; so warmly, and with such concern for the souls of men; that those who heard them could not but say, God was with them of a truth. Yet the success was not to be reckoned to the manner of their preaching, but to the Spirit of God who used that means. Perseverance in doing good, amidst dangers and hardships, is a blessed evidence of grace. Wherever God’s servants are driven, they should seek to declare the truth. When they went on in Christ’s name and strength, he failed not to give testimony to the word of his grace. He has assured us it is the word of God, and that we may venture our souls upon it. The Gentiles and Jews were at enmity with one another, yet united against Christians. If the church’s enemies join to destroy it, shall not its friends unite for its preservation? God has a shelter for his people in a storm; he is, and will be their Hiding-place. In times of persecution, believers may see cause to quit a spot, though they do not quit their Master’s work.

  24. 21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,
22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

How much do we confirm, exhort, and push each other to continue?

When Anna got filled with the Holy Ghost, I warned her that the enemy would try to steal her blessing. Only 20 minutes down the road, she began to doubt, I had to remind her that it wasn’t only her, but several others too, that heard her speak in other tongues. I encouraged her every chance I that I thought too, but the trials of life, have slowed her down.

It is up to all of us to FIGHT, for our babes, who need the encouragement, so that they continue to fight, so that they might get to enter the Kingdom of God. The Word tells us that the Kingdom of God suffereth violence, and the Violent take it by force.

  25. And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
    Acts 14:11‭, ‬14‭-‬15 KJV
We must be quick to give glory to God like the apostles did even when men try to give us praise for doing God’s work. In this case the people were worshipping them but we have preacher worship in our day too. We simply say like the psalmist, Not unto us, O Lord , not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
    Psalms 115:1 KJV

  26. 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Someday it will be worth all the tribulation we face on earth, when we reach our great destination the kingdom of God. Thank you Jesus

    • 2 Corinthians 1 verse 4

4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

  27. 7 And there they preached the gospel.

Simple but impacting! Our lives our lived under an open heaven God has his blessings ready to rain! Our lives need to glorify God through our actions. Our actions need to preach the Gospel!

  28. The choice of tribulation

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

The cause of great trouble, this is what tribulation means. And we must go through much tribulation to enter the Kingdom of God. Although I have only lived for 27 yrs. I believe it safe to same I have seem some tribulation, from losing my father, to losing many friends, moving and many tests and trials. Yet it is all for the Kingdom of God. It is for me, for me to be molded and shaped into what God wants me to be. To able, one day to fit in a place exactly where he sees fit.
I must decrease, so can increase. I must allow God to guide my path and trust that he will never leave or forsake me.
    For His Kingdom.

  29. 2 Corinthians 1 verse 4

4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. This goes along with verse 22 which is awesome that God comforts us in it all

  30. 9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

  31. So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders.
    Acts 14:3 NIV

When we decide to stand up and speak boldly for the Lord, we are automatically putting our fears and emotions aside for His sake. We are decreasing so He can increase.

  32. “where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭14:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As believers in Christ and as members of the same church. We must encourage one another. Always give words to uplift the spirit of the ones who seem to be down. Praying for one another. Love one another. Reach out to the ones who have lost their way.

  33. 9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

Percieved faith. There is a faith that can be perceived on people. Not everyone accepts a message and builds their faith but one can see when a person has recieved and now is believing and therefore expectant that what was said is true. It should be that as we witness our testimony and exhorting of the word should build faith. We then must be ready to act on the Word by demonstration.

  34. I learned that the people stoned one of the disciples and drug him out and thought he was dead but he just went on to the next town

  35. In this chapter in talks about how “….God had used them to throw the door of faith wide open so people of all nations could come streaming in….(part of verses 27-28 MSG). As Western Day approaches, we (POFW) must be prayerfully prepared to receive this harvest of souls that is going to be streaming in……..in Jesus name.

  36. 1 The same thing happened in Iconium, Paul and Barnabas went to the Jewish synagogue and preached with such power that a great number of both Jews and Greeks became believers.

When giving the Word, preach it with enthusiasm, power and compassion. Some preachers are monotone, the congregation don’t get nothing out of the message. But when someone gives the Word with power, like Pastor Watts, everyone listens, our attention is there!

  37. 11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in:
