Acts 19

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

And all the men were about twelve.

And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

39 But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

There is only (1) “A” TRUTH and HE (JESUS) is also the WAY. The path and or plan of salvation is from JESUS. HIS very own Disciples “followers” conveyed and communicated HIS plan to others, throughout the Acts of the Apostles.

Here we witness the proper, loving and correct way to TEACH others HIS WAY.

Find out what they know and where they are, then reveal to them them from the WORD of GOD what is THE WAY in love, compassion, expectation and readiness.

Paul not only taught TRUTH but was prepared to share FAITH. (Paul laid hands on them).

Lets GO today SHARE JESUS with this lost and dying world.

We must take a look at the scriptures to know them to understand them. These were disciples of John the Baptist. Yet they were rebaptized . If it had not been of importance why record it. God has specifics. All they from the Old Testament through the New Testament. The name. “What’s in a name”. The name of Jesus applied to our life. Taking his name in a covenant. In obedience to His commandment. There is no other name among men where we can be saved .
    Acts 4:12

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

  4. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

There are many things in this world that will hurt us physically, even unto death. Whether by our own hand or by the hand of others. But there is one thing that will ultimately harm us spiritually and that is not having a relationship with God. I’m talking about having repented, being baptized in the name of Jesus and being filled with the Holy Ghost. Therefore being able to have authority in the name of Jesus to speak to the things of the spiritual world.

The spirit spoke to those in the scripture to say I know Jesus and I know even Paul, but who are you?

    Philippians 2 states:

5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father

We need to have the knowledge and understanding of that precious name of Jesus that way we may come against everything that will destroy us spiritually.

It’s time we the church become bold and take dominion over the kingdom of satan and destroy the chains and bonds that try to control us in our relationship with Jesus.

We have to be kingdom minded and work in the time we have left to add to the kingdom.

    I love thy kingdom!

  6. Verses 1-2 MSG “Now, it happened that while Apollos was away in Corinth, Paul made his way down through the mountains, came to Ephesus, and happened on some disciples there. The first thing he said was, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? Did you take God into your mind only, or did you also embrace him with your heart? Did he get inside you?” “We’ve never even heard of that—a Holy Spirit? God within us?” The question is posed here: “Have you embraced God with your heart?” Mark 12:30 AMP says “and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul (life), and with all your mind (thought, understanding), and with all your strength.’

Verse 11 CEV “God gave Paul the power to work great miracles.” This reminded me of the song “Risen” that says:

The same power; the same power
    That crushed the enemy
The same power; the same power
The same power lives in me

  7. 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

Here we see Paul come across people who had not been baptized or have the Holy Ghost but yet the Bible has stated that they were disciples. And it gives respect to the fact they had a relationship with God. It can be very easy to fall into the mindset of thinking that we are and Elite isolated group of people because we have the Holy Ghost but we forget that there are people who are just as committed to Christ who just need to have a little more revelation which we can give in love. It doesn’t exclude them from being disciples or followers of Christ or even Christians it just means there may be something they haven’t seen yet in the Bible

  8. Acts 19:1-6
    1) AND it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
    2) He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
    3) And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
    4) Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
    5) When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
    6) And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

From the ages of 5 to 13, I went to many denominational churches, but never heard or knew anything about whether there be any Holy Ghost. I didn’t hear about the Holy Ghost until the age of 15, when I went to a Pentecostal church.

So Thankful to JESUS for the Pastor who taught me the TRUTH and what I must do to be saved. (Repent, be baptized in JESUS name for the remission of sins, and be filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost).

NOW is the time to “GO” tell others about JESUS and the Plan of Salvation.
NOW is the time to “GO” and tell those who have never heard.

Behold, NOW is the time! Behold, NOW is the day of Salvation!!

  9. When you receive the Holy Ghost, there is a change like no other that comes up on you. The spirit of God gives us the power to fight off the attacks of the enemy. When you’re on the Lord’s side there is no reason to fear the enemy.

  10. “But when they realized that he was a Jew, a single outcry went up from the crowd as they shouted for about two hours, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” After the town clerk had quieted the crowd, he said, “Men of Ephesus, what person is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of that [ sacred stone image of her] which fell from the sky? So, since these things cannot be denied, you ought to be quiet and stay calm and not do anything rash. For you have brought these men here who are neither temple robbers nor blasphemers of our goddess. So then, if Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a complaint against anyone, the courts are in session and proconsuls are available; let them bring charges against one another there. But if you want anything beyond this, it will be settled in the lawful assembly. For we are running the risk of being accused of rioting in regard to today’s events, and since there is no reason for it, we will be unable to give an account and justify this disorderly gathering.” And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly.”
    ‭‭ACTS‬ ‭19:34-41‬ ‭AMP‬‬

    The unity of disunity

There was going to be a riot that would destroy everything where they were except someone told them to leave. When many people come together that are upset it can set off a chair reaction of disaster. We should strive to build up and bring unity to everything we do rather than voicing ourown selfish opinions and seeking a after things not of God.

  11. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

There will always be things trying to come up against you, things that will try to detour you and overcome you. When this happens, do not panic, just call on Jesus! God will always prevail; if you’re submitted and obedient to His Word and Will, there’s nothing to fear, God’s gonna bring you through!

  12. “And he went into the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and arguing and persuading them about the kingdom of God. But when some were becoming hardened and disobedient [to the word of God], discrediting and speaking evil of the Way (Jesus, Christianity) before the congregation, Paul left them, taking the disciples with him, and went on holding daily discussions in the lecture hall of Tyrannus [instead of in the synagogue]. This continued for two years, so that all the inhabitants of [the west coast province of] Asia [Minor], Jews as well as Greeks, heard the word of the Lord [concerning eternal salvation through faith in Christ].”
    ‭‭ACTS‬ ‭19:8-10‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Paul’s tenacity to the word of God is what spread the doctrine of Christ. He had an assurance, confidence and unwavering faith. My prayer is that type of faith would rise in the people of POFW. And that our community would hear the word of Salvation. And spread to the surrounding areas and counties.

  13. Acts19 : 4-5 (Amp) And Paul said, John bapized with the baptism of repentance, continually telling the people that they should believe in the One Who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus [ having a conviction full of joyful trust that He is Christ, the Messiah, and being obedient to Him]. [5] On hearing this they were baptized [ again, this time] in the name of the Lord Jesus. I’m am so thankful for Jesus for a pastor of truth.

  14. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
7 And all the men were about twelve.
8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

They grew because Pail taught them and reasoned with them through the scriptures. Bible studies are critical for new believers and also for each of us to continue to grow in Him.

  15. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed
When the Word grows, the church grows.
When the Word grows, souls are added to the church.
When the Word grows, evil is defeated.
When the Word grows, the church grows in the grace and knowledge of God.
When the Word grows, false doctrine is dispelled.
When the Word grows, sin is exposed.
When the Word grows, temptations are overcome.
Let’s pray for His Word to GROW in Jesus name!!!

  16. The Next Generation

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

The Next Generation. What are we doing to prepare the next generation? What are we teaching them?

At my job, my manager and I had our monthly check-in meeting. We talked about her check-in meeting with her manager. In how He made the comment that she was training her branch very well. That he saw us being the next generation of Banking Managers. WOW! That was a nice compliment from him.
And when I read this chapter this morning, my mind went to a conversation I had with one of the youth from our event last night. Of how they felt that they were not getting the right training for life. How to talk to the opposite gender, how they were having a hard time in schooling, and looking for a job, and to seek God for His direction in their life. When I heard the last statement I was shocked. Our teaching and preaching is always talking about how to seek for God’s direction. But then it got me to thinking, What am I doing to help this next generation? How am I showing them how to trust and seek God? Have I gotten so involved in the thought of ,” If I say something that offends them, they will walk away.” The Gospel is offensive if you don’t take it the right way. Many people have made this gospel to be “the bad Guy,” in our society. Yet, is through the preaching of the Word of God that we hear it, but do we do it? Do we act on what we hear, or do we just say again,” Good Job Preach, Great Word today.” If we expect more from the generation after us, should we not show them how too be just that, Doers!!!????
This was a definite soul searching time for me. And thank you Jesus for that. If we truely want to see His Kingdom Be Established, Will it rise and fall in one generation or will we see it Rise further than we can take it?

  17. 23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

    24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

Just the talk of Paul coming to their town caused a great stirring among those who worshipped false gods. This speaks highly of Pauls testimony that was noised abroad so that people knew of him even before he arrived.

What does our testimony sound like? Do people know what God has done for us long before we ever come? We should never leave a conversation without telling someone about our JESUS. This is how it was spread abroad in the bible days, word of mouth – no internet, no cellphones, no snapchat, nothing but word of mouth. Imagine if we all spoke the same, and spoke to everyone we met each day, how we could turn this region upside in a small amount of time.

  18. 11 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.

  19. 24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

  20. I have nothing new or profound, but a few ntakeaways on this chapter are as follows:
Vss 1-7: Paul never taught that one automatically receives the Holy Ghost when he believes, and he was not content to leave a person’s experience anything short of the Acts 2:38 experience.
Vss 9-10: For over two years they had church every day. How many people might we reach if we were committed to everyday revival?
Vs 19: When God convicts you that something in your house is sin, don’t see it aside to try to sell it. Why be a stumblingblock to someone else? Just destroy the sinful things.
Vss 25-27: If your god really is a god, you don’t have to defend him/her. They have tried to stop Jesus for over two thousand years, and His name is still strong in the Earth!!

  21. Acts 19
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

  22. And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues,

Paul, at Ephesus, found some religious persons, who looked to Jesus as the Messiah. They had not been led to expect the miraculous powers of the Holy Ghost, nor were they informed that the gospel was especially the ministration of the Spirit. But they spake as ready to welcome the notice of it. Paul shows them that John never design that those he baptized should rest there, but told them that they should believe on Him who should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. They thankfully accepted the discovery, and were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. The Holy Ghost came upon them in a surprising, overpowering manner; they spake with tongues, and prophesied, as the apostles and the first Gentile coverts did. Though we do not now expect miraculous powers, yet all who profess to be disciples of Christ, should be called on to examine whether they have received the seal of the Holy Ghost, in his sanctifying influences, to the sincerity of their faith. Many seem not to have heard that there is a Holy Ghost, and many deem all that is spoken concerning his graces and comforts, to be delusion. Of such it may properly be inquired, “Unto what, then, were ye baptized?” for they evidently know not the meaning of that outward sign on which they place great dependence.

  23. So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
    Acts 19:12 KJV

I can testify of these handkerchiefs. I have placed them in my home, car, etc. And in many ways we have been protected. .

  24. 10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

What type of land was Paul covering to spread the gospel?

Asia written about in the Bible was not “All” of today’s Asia but, it was 1/4 of today’s Turkey.

When Paul started to reach out and reach out to this huge huge area, what do you think he was thinking? Well when I try to talk to my friends boy I get nervous and then I mess up and I don’t even talk to them about church or God! Paul during his time accomplished a whole region and spread the Gospel! He didn’t stop until he knew they heard the word!

No matter how big or difficult it looks God has already set victory over whatever it is for us! As men and woman of God we have UNLIMITED POTENTIAL! We just have to talk to God and he will show us his plan for us!

  25. 18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

Thank you Jesus for your blood.

  26. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

  27. theatre.

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

Sorry I almost missed this blog. This shows the power of unity. Disunity cause confusion

  28. Acts 19:8-10And he went into the synagogue and speak spoke about leave for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the thing of the kingdom of God. But when some more hardened and did not believe, but spoke able of the way before the multitude, he departed from them and with Drew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school at Tyrone us. And this continued for two years so that all her drawers and Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and the Greeks

Paul begin a miniature seminary in Ephesus to teach students the Ins and outs of the Gospel. For two years he rounded up men and trained them in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. As he mentored students, Paul remained committed to the people, to the process, and to the purpose. Consider how we can do the same as we develop others : Be familiar with your strengths and weaknesses.
Know the people you wish to develop. Clearly define the goals and assignments. Allow them to watch you serve and lead Hold them accountable for their work. Give them the freedom to fail.

  29. 17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

  30. 13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

    No relationship, No POWER!

We can play church all we want, and let people come every week and send them home feeling good, but it they don’t have an encounter with Jesus, we failed as a church.

Everyone has to have the mindset, that they have to heaven from every church service they go to!
Don’t hold nothing back, give your best praise, your best worship, your all to God like if it was your last time doing it.

  31. who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

Even the devils believe and tremble and can be used to magnify God. This just shows that the Lord is in control of everything. No matter where, He had power and Authority.

  32. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

To sale something means you are transferring ownership from one person to another for money. Here we see that instead of receiving money they burnt the product you may ask why? Well somethings may be valuable when it comes to natural currency but are deadly when it comes to spiritual currency.

When we learn to make spiritual things our first priority we will adapt this same principle. What we do for Christ has a much higher value than the few dollars we may receive. Evil is evil we should not desire to own it and we also should not partake in transferring ownership to someone else. Let the buck stop here and burn or destroy those things that hinder and bind you from being Kingdom minded.

  33. 2“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.“

So many have never heard of the Holy Spirit or what it means. It’s a life experience one will never forget. It’s up to us to teach others about the Holy Spirit.
