Acts 23
1 And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
2 And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.
3 Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?
4 And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?
5 Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.
6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.
8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.
9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.
10 And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.
11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.
14 And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.
15 Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
16 And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.
17 Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.
18 So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.
19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.
22 So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.
23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;
24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.
25 And he wrote a letter after this manner:
26 Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.
27 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.
28 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:
29 Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.
30 And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.
31 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.
32 On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:
33 Who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.
34 And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;
35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.

16 And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.
It’s amazing to see how in the middle of a trial we are going through God shows up and fights for us. Here Paul is in the middle of a divided house and have those who want to do him harm lying and waiting for the perfect time to kill him and his sisters son hears of the plot and goes to tell Paul and the chief captain. Like many of us when we are in the middle of a trial sometimes it feels as if we are trapped with no sign of relief and the God shows up in some way to. Always remember our God fights for us. He makes a way to keep us safe in the midsts of a storm .
Acts 23
11 The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”
Even in the midst of adversity God reassures Paul he will get to Rome. God was fighting for Paul throughout these verses. God made intervention. Paul’s determination and faith in God seem him through to fulfill his purpose for the Kingdom of God. No matter what obstacles we face and it feels as if you will not fulithe purpose God has for you we must rise up in assurances God is heading the way and He us right there with us .
Deuteronomy 31:6-8 New International Version (NIV)
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
16. And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.
19. Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
20. And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
21. But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.
It was no accident that he overheard what had been planned against Paul. God had placed him where he needed to be when the time was right.
Are we in our places with God, ready and willing to do what He has called us to do? For certainly the time is now!
That night the Lord stood beside Paul and said, “Don’t worry! Just as you have told others about me in Jerusalem, you must also tell about me in Rome.”
Acts 23:11 CEV
Right before another trial, hearing the voice of the LORD saying “Don’t worry!” We must always be sure to recognize the voice of truth and confide in His word only. Not to be consumed with whatwe face. God is faithful at all times, we can withstand the tests in our lives.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV
11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
Be of good cheer, God has a plan! All we gotta do is follow His plan!
Acts 23:10-11[Amp] And when the strife become more and more tense and violet , the commandant, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, ordered the troops to go down and take him forcibly from among them and conduct him back into the barracks.[11] And [ that same] following night the Lord stood besides Paul and said, Take courage, Paul, for as you have borne faithful witness at Rome. God is faithful at all times , He will never leave or forsake you. There are times that God will test you ! Don’t Worry he want put you through something you can’t handle.
Then the commander called two of his officers and ordered, “Get 200 soldiers ready to leave for Caesarea at nine o’clock tonight. Also take 200 spearmen and 70 mounted troops. Then he wrote this letter to the governor:

God will provide all of our needs and give us the protection we need to make sure His Will is done. He is a loving, faithful God.
11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
There is no power not principalities today can stand against is with God at our side. Nothing can be done without his permission. Right after good had encouraged Paul for testifying, these men plotted to kill Paul and their plan was made known and failed because God placed a covering over him
Acts 23

God will protect His anointed.
We see here that the captain told his soldiers to protect Paul. One man for all this?
If you ever feel that God doesn’t love you or care about you, just remember this, God feeds the sparrow, He feeds the flocks, he dresses the fields, why would He not, then, take care of His children that he Formed with His Hands?

“And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.”

Last chapter it didn’t seem like Paul was gonna make it out alive and if this was my first time reading it I wouldn’t have thought he be riding out on a beast. But GOD, WOW he’s a provider. These men were told to get Paul a beast to ride out on safely. When we’re troubled in our life we have to remember that God has our ride to safety right around the corner. You know what they say, “when bad things happen, something great is about to happen” well I believe it Lord and I receive it.
He’s a provider, a protector…don’t ever forget where Gods brought you. He didn’t have to save you but he did.
iLove the Kingdom
Paul was a sharp feller in the Holy Ghost. He knew the law and also knew the different divisions in his religion. This helped him escape through diversion. His knowledge of the Word of God, customs, and rights as a citizen would deliver him time and time again. We too need to “Study to shew thy self approved”. Your gift will make room for you and could possibly save your life one day.
Sometimes. Sometimes. SOMETIMES
People can accuse you for things you have not done. Maybe they think they saw you some where. Maybe they have ought against you, and they raise an accusation to try to harm you. Could we still forgive?
“Nor can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.”
Acts 24:13 NKJV
11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
We have the covering of the authority of the Holy Ghost and the power of Jesus name. We need to be encouraged and be of good cheer for if Jesus is for us then who in this world can be against us.
The word of God tells us that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. We should not fear those that may come against us as long as we testify of Jesus and all that he has done and all that he will do for those that have need of saving. Be bold and continue steadfast in the Gospel.
I love the Kingdom!
7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.
8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.
The enemy often uses divisions to distract the church from fulfilling its purpose. Yet, here we see Paul use this tactic against his accusers. People will often come together to cause harm for a common enemy yet the very thing that they cannot agree on God will use to cause them to devour each other.
Do not worry about the accusations and the oppressions of your enemy keep praying, keep fasting, and allow God to work on your behalf.

Jesus has Paul’s back. Jesus said don’t worry to Paul continue to witness and testify wherever your sent.
What a great God we serve, he will never leave us or forsake us, as long as we make him first.
19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.
This young man spoke to the chief captain and boldly told him “do not yield unto them”. I would think this captain would be a pretty intimidating figure with a strong commanding presence and yet God used this young man and gave him favor to speak for Paul’s safety. We must boldly speak whatever the Lord gives us to say to whoever we face whether an adversary or chance encounter.
THY KINGDOM COME

18 So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.
19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.
A young man heard something and a chief captain was willing to listen. What a beautiful connection of hope and help for Paul. The young man had courage to speak up and the leader had compassion to listen.
On the words of a young man a plot was spoiled, a life was spared, an army was assembled, a mission was carried out and another soul was able to hear the Gospel story. May JESUS inspire the YOUTH at The POFW and around the world to Speak UP about their FAITH.

1: “Gazing intently at the high council, Paul began: “Brothers, I have always lived before God with a clear conscience!” NLT
One of the first things you will learn when working with children, that when they are lying they will tend to look away from you. Looking down, side to side, anywhere besides making eye contact with you.
Adults are another story, they have mastered their lying skills, some will even look you dead in the eyes and lie. But in fear, they cover their eyes, afraid to look at the threat.
The NLT reads “gazing intently”, Paul was free of guilt and free. With complete faith in God, knowing he had lived with a clear conscience.
Would we be able to stand before a council and do the same today?
If we are living in obedience to God’s commandments we would, doing what the Word of God tells us to do.
So that when we are placed in the position of defending our actions, we can gaze intently proclaiming, I have lived my life as the Word of God has instructed.

“And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.”

In Chapter 23 Paul states that his conscience is clear toward God, and in the following chapter, he says that his conscience is clear toward God and man. I believe that Paul had a clear conscience, because he had always endeavored to spread and protect the truth whereby men could be saved. Even when persecuting the Christians, he did it with a clear conscience because he felt that he was defending the Word of God against blasphemers.
Since his conversation, you would think that Paul would now be walking around with a guilty conscience toward all those whom he had caused to suffer. However, God, in His great mercy, gave us all a way to have this same testimony of being guilt-free.
“The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”
1 Peter 3:21 KJV
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Romans 8:1 KJV
He had a clear conscience because his old sins had been paid for and washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ. He was a new creature walking after the Spirit in the power of the resurrection. Having seen Jesus in His resurrected state, Paul now put his hope in the promise of rising with Christ through obedience to the Gospel message. He kept a clear conscience because he shared this hope everywhere he went.
“Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.”

Just as in the those days, there will be those that conspire against what God is doing in this region. We must however have the same confidence that God will place strategic people on the battlefield of prayer to intervene against anything that the enemy does to bring harm.
2 For 10:4-5 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
God is fighting for us
Pushing back the darkness
Lighting up the Kingdom
That cannot be shaken
In the Name of Jesus

Remember: In your “night time,” God will show up, speak to you, and encourage you. In your “night time,” God will make a way and deliver you.

How could Paul, someone who persecuted Christians, live in “good conscience”? Because he was forgiven by God and believed it! Some people, though forgiven by God, choose to live a life of shame and guilt because they refuse to believe that God can forgive them. But we serve a God who can do anything, and you can never run too far from His mercy. If Jesus can forgive Paul and use him to advance His Kingdom, then He can do the same for you!
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
John 8:36 NKJV
14 And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.
Well I guess the protesters of today aren’t going anywhere…… just like back in the day of JESUS walking this earth, they continue to cry out “justices” and “injustices” BUT HOW IS THAT BIBLICAL IF JESUS NEVER OPENED HIS MOUTH AGAINST GOD’S WILL!!!

Such blind hatred toward Paul that more than 40 men swear to murder him in the name of God????? This the difference between religion and relationship like Pastor taught about. Religious people killed the Lord Jesus. This type of hatred is also present in our world today and being manifested toward our President and Christians. Yet we must not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.

The scripture immediately came to mind; ” when the enemy rushes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard…” it may look like you’re surrounded but we are surrounded by Him!!

NO WEAPONS FORMED AGAINST ME SHALL PROSPER, People will devise a plan to bring the people and man of God down, they will coome with their lies and accusations, but God knows the hearts of us all, whats done in the dark will surly come to the light!
In the darkness; God protected his Epistle. Those that rose up and would slay Paul. Never got the chance; why because God had a much bigger plan for Paul. This is what is going on today. In every corner there is always somebody trying to bring down the Kingdom; whether it be by words, by strength, or just by pure design of man. I know that everywhere I go there is somebody trying to tell me that what I’m doing is wrong, but God is the only one that knows the truth of my heart. Let no man come before my God. He is my rock and my salvation.

Matthew 10:16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
Verse 11 MSG “That night the Master appeared to Paul: “It’s going to be all right. Everything is going to turn out for the best. You’ve been a good witness for me here in Jerusalem. Now you’re going to be my witness in Rome!” If we follow God’s will and His plan, then no worries for God is on our side fighting our battles.
We’re always encouraged to know those we labor amongst and this came in particularly handy for Paul. ‘But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.’ He understood who he was among.
He of course was defending himself, but he would later declare that we should be all things to all men that by all means we should save some. We need to be familiar with the harvest! That connection allows us to be more effective when we have the opportunity to reach out to them in need. They need to know we care! That is often demonstrated by the simple act of taking the time to know where they’re at and demonstrating empathy for their situation as we point them to the one that can truly make a greater difference in their life!
6Paul realized that some members of the high council were Sadducees and some were Pharisees, so he shouted, “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, as were my ancestors! And I am on trial because my hope is in the resurrection of the dead!”
I can only imagine what they thought when Paul said “my hope is in the resurrection of the dead”. They were probably confused, thought he was nuts, or maybe some believed. We must be willing to tell others its a fact, Jesus body can’t be found as other religious prophets are buried in the ground. Our faith is based on Jesus who resurrected.
