1 Corinthians 2

And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

  1. Verses 3-5 MSG “I was unsure of how to go about this, and felt totally inadequate—I was scared to death, if you want the truth of it—and so nothing I said could have impressed you or anyone else. But the Message came through anyway. God’s Spirit and God’s power did it, which made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God’s power, not to some fancy mental or emotional footwork by me or anyone else.” These verses show that we are not alone in thinking sometimes that we can’t do this…teach a bible study, witness or do outreach as even Paul felt inadequate; but, he did it. We too must trust in the Lord and be willing as God will draw them in by His Spirit and power.

The Spiritual principals and practices that Apostolic believers live and serve by are foolishness to the world. Spending hours in Prayer each week to our Loving Savior JESUS, Investing 15-25% of our financial income to the Church each week, Running, Leaping and Shouting in Praise to and for our Lord JESUS, Reading, Studying and Sharing the Word of GOD with others, Modest Apparel and Abstinence from worldly pleasures.

All of these and many other Spiritual investments that we make as Holy Ghost Filled believers make no sense to the carnal mind. How to the Spirit Filled believers, the are LIFE and PEACE. HOPE and JOY, COMMITMENT and SALVATION.

We should practice daily, hearing what The SPIRIT says and obey.

  3. Preaching the gospel of redemption is more effective when it focuses on what Jesus did and said on the cross. The old covenent has been abolished by the sacrifice on the cross, and the message Jesus has imparted to us superceded all rationalizations about the veracity of the written word. When one accepts the truth of gospel, it is because of the receptivity of their spirit to the witness of the Holy Spirit. In essence winning the lost does not require cunning strategies and tactics, it simply is a matter of imparting the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus and the hearers willingness to receive the wittness of the Holy Spirit.

  4. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Many times we see people that are often ego centric, narcissistic and very full of them selves. It is always about them and no one else. Paul states it very well that he doesn’t speak as one with such pedigree or even as one overly confident, but with a spirit of humility and only by the power and wisdom of the Holy Ghost.

If we would allow more of God to operate in our lives instead more of the world, our faith would sustain us more. God can use a willing vessel that wants more of God than more of the world. Nothing in this world can save us except Jesus.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the light! I want to be sold out to him.

    I love the Kingdom!

  5. 1 Corinthians 2:9 But, on the contrary, as the Scripture says, What eye has not seen and ear has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man , [ all that] God has prepared ( made and keep ready) for those who love Him [ who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed. For from of old no one has heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who works and shows Himself active on behalf of Him Who [ earnestly] waits on Him. The Holy Spirit dwells in us and searches and examining everything. Lord my prayer today for people to give there lives to Jesus!

  6. 1. When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan.

    4. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. NLT

Most people can tell when you’re just trying to impress them with your speech – and they usually tune you out and ignore your real message ‘hidden among the stuff”.

  7. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

None has instructed GOD…..when HE says to do something our flesh wants to ask why and sometimes does ask, but why JESUS??? HE could say BECAUSE I SAID SO……but HE IS SO GOOD TO US!!! HE either doesn’t respond but most of the time it’s a “because I LOVE YOU”……. thank you DADDY for loving meeeee!!! HALELUJAH!!! YOU’VE BEEN SO GOOD TO ME JESUS AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOUUUUU, THANK YOUUUUUUU

  8. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. I want this to be my response to questions “Nora what do you know about this?” Me: All I know is Jesus Christ and him Crucified…
No extra words no idle conversation that isnt doing or adding to spiritual growth, Paul was a very great man of knowledge, he was like Pastor Watts in the sense, I beleive he didn’t tolerate idle words that wasn’t going anywhere and didn’t have no purpose, he didn’t do gossip, or go to pity parties, Paul exemplified that apostolic lifestyle, he went from hating everything about the believers to falling in love with God and his people, and living a life of service! I don’t claim to know everything, but our Church is living proof that Jesus is real, and has the same structure and spirit as the first church, I continue to pray that God will keep the unity in our church!

  9. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Romans 8:14 – For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Romans 8:6 – For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Romans 8:4 – That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

We determine which voice we listen to; the voice of “life” or the voice of “death.”
One voice leads to eternal salvation, one voice leads to eternal damnation. One voice leads to fullness and completeness in Jesus Christ, one voice leads to destruction.

We must choose daily to walk after the spirit, denying our flesh. Feeding on spiritual things – reading the Word, listening to Word, listen to positive, uplifting music, thinking on the good things of the Lord will open our spirit to be led by His Spirit.

  10. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

    The natural man.

“in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.”
    ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:2-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.”
    ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:18-19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

    The spiritual man.

“The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭25:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the LORD understand all.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭28:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭11:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It is not until we receive the Holy Ghost, are transformed by the renewing of our mind, and begin to actively seek God that we receive understanding and revelation.

So to the natural man, they cannot understand why we live this lifestyle. They cannot understand why choose to or not to walk, talk, and act a certain way. And to try to explain it would be as if we were talking to a wall.

The natural man will never understand.
But if we go out and spread the good news of His salvation, reaching for the natural man, bringing them out of the darkness and into His marvelous light, they too can be filled with the Spirit and be transformed from the natural to spiritual and be enlightened with this truth!

  11. iLove the Kingdom

“And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

They need to take this scripture into every Bible College and post it above every classroom door…in fact, this shall be one on my favorite verses from now on. All y’all teachers and preachers out there, take note and take heed. A beautiful sermon isn’t one that sounds good, but one in which lives are changed

  12. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

The Spirit of God gives us understanding of his word. Be Spirit filled, read the Bible and study His word in order to get this understand.

  13. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Consume us with Your Spirit God! Man, if this doesn’t encourage you to speak in tongues everyday (like you should anyways), I don’t what will. Having His Spirit means, having Him lead us, getting to know the gifts and promises of God, and Him speaking through us for the salvation of others. Just like Paul demonstrated at the beginning of the chapter, He gives all glory to God saying it wasn’t even Him using fancy words to entice people, it was just the Spirit of God speaking, all He did was share a testimony. If we are Spirit led, we have the same power!

  14. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

In teaching Bible studies over the years I’ve had people tell me they don’t need to speak in tongues because they have the gift of faith, or one of the other gifts of the spirit. It is sometimes hard for them to understand that they have to go back to Pentecost and receive the Holy Ghost and then afterwards they receive the gifts of the spirit. We must let the word of God interpret His word for us and Paul writes clearly that the natural man doesn’t receive these gifts.

  15. 1 Cor. 2:4-5
    4) And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
    5) That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

  16. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
    1 Corinthians 2:2 KJV

This verse has saved and rebuked me many times when faced with gossip from others or the temptation to gossip myself. I’ve quoted it to stop conversations that were heading in the wrong direction. I’ve remembered it when my curiosity about the affairs of others needed to be put in check. Unprofitable and divisive words and thoughts must all be replaced by the unity that comes from focusing on Jesus Christ, by putting on the mind of Christ (that of love, humility, and service), and by remembering where and what we, ourselves, would be if it were not for the crucifixion that paid for our transgressions.

A few other translations of this verse are as follows:

For I didn’t think it was a good idea to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
    1 Corinthians 2:2 HCSB

For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.
    1 Corinthians 2:2 NLT

I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did—Jesus crucified.
    1 Corinthians 2:2 MSG

How much greater would the unity in the church be if we decided it wasn’t a good idea for us to gossip, boast, or complain; if we forgot everything but the mission set before us; and if we just kept things plain and simple–repeating only who He is and what He has done for us and all men?! This kind of living would change us AND fuel the revival we desire to have.

“Set a watch, O Lord , before my mouth; keep the door of my lips,” (Psalms 141:3 KJV). “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord , my strength, and my redeemer,” (Psalms 19:14 KJV).

  17. We often hear it said that no one truly knows what is going on in the heart of another and this is indeed confirmed in this passage of scripture. ‘For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him?’ That is why we do not judge merely by what we see… the principle that is usually referred to in relation to this thought.

Paul chooses to take it in a different direction however. Just as we cannot know what drives another person, ‘even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.’

Think about what Paul is saying. This is why the world cannot understand the things of God. They see the outside manifestations and they don’t appear to make sense. They make sense to us only because God has allowed a portion of his spirit to breathe into our own. We begin to understand his perspective with the guidance of his spirit. Those things that don’t make sense to the world become dear to us because they are dear to the spirit of God that breathes within!

This is yet another reason why it is so important to have the Holy Ghost active in our lives. Not just a manifestation at the receiving of our salvation, but a continual voice of guidance that allows us to more clearly understand the things of God… and not through our eyes, but through his own! Those things we set aside are seen for the obstacles they truly are rather than the ‘unnecessary sacrifice’ the world declares them to be.

When his spirit has that liberty in our lives we also recognize that ‘as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.’ This should excite the people of God! It should encourage us to continue to allow his spirit to shape us according to his will that we may be best prepared to receive what he has desired for our life! In Jesus name!

  18. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

The mystery of God is His Wisdom. But if you really think about for a half of second, it makes sense that He would be the all knowing God, since He created the universe. Once we get that, it just makes sense that God is all knowing. Man’s wisdom will fail you, but the wisdom of God will not. Thank you Jesus that I have a relationship with you, that you cam speak to us through your word, and through prayer. It is a great day to live, because Jesus is on the throne.

  19. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

the instruction for all of our walk. Is to have the mind of Christ. To judge all things spiritual and to walk according to what is right in God’s eyes. Having the mind of Christ is having a love for the people to reach them. To love those that persecute us and reach those that need Him

  20. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

No one knows what God has prepared for us when we make it Heaven. We are to be about God and His business, leaving behind knowledge of the world and taking on spiritual things. This comes from digging into the Word of God and studying. If we say we are children of God and trying to reach people we need to be properly equipped with the tools to do so. You wouldn’t start a project or take a test without the right tools or studying, that’s not giving it or God your best. Man only has knowledge of man, that’s why we have the responsibility of sharing the knowledge of God with them to help them get a revelation of what they could have.

  21. I Corinthians 2
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

In Christ Alone I place my hope.
We have such an awesome opportunity in Jesus.
No matter how weak or unlearned we may be the God of the Universe empowers us . Not I but Christ within. How often before going before a group of people we say God You have this. We can we will do that which God calls us to do. Thank you for in our weakness then You are made strong as we keep our faith in You and not anything or anyone in this world.
    The awesomeness of your power!

  22. Yes having the mind set on the spirit is very important. Thats why i strive to pray while im driving, walking , taking a shower , at work .. So i can listen to God speaking . Mind of Christ letting the holy spirit lead you . Not this world Amen

  23. When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling.
    1 Corinthians 2:1‭-‬3 NLT

We don’t need fancy words to spread the Good News. We humble ourselves and speak plainly to teach people about the love of God. Jesus spoke in parables so the people could understand what He was saying. Sometimes we have to break it down so that people are WILLING to listen to us and ABLE to receive the message of Good News we carry in our hearts. Jesus, be our words and guide us to those with hungry hearts. You are the Bread of Life to satisfy this starving world.

  24. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

We must pray pray and fast and be filled of the Holy Ghost so that we can understand hidden knowledge of God.

  25. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

  26. We, of course, have plenty of wisdom to pass on to you once you get your feet on firm spiritual ground, but it’s not popular wisdom, the fashionable wisdom of high-priced experts that will be out-of-date in a year or so. God’s wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of his purposes. You don’t find it lying around on the surface. It’s not the latest message, but more like the oldest—what God determined as the way to bring out his best in us, long before we ever arrived on the scene. The experts of our day haven’t a clue about what this eternal plan is. If they had, they wouldn’t have killed the Master of the God-designed life on a cross. That’s why we have this Scripture text: No one’s ever seen or heard anything like this, Never so much as imagined anything quite like it— What God has arranged for those who love him. But you’ve seen and heard it because God by his Spirit has brought it all out into the open before you. The Spirit, not content to flit around on the surface, dives into the depths of God, and brings out what God planned all along. Who ever knows what you’re thinking and planning except you yourself? The same with God—except that he not only knows what he’s thinking, but he lets us in on it. God offers a full report on the gifts of life and salvation that he is giving us. We don’t have to rely on the world’s guesses and opinions. We didn’t learn this by reading books or going to school; we learned it from God, who taught us person-to-person through Jesus, and we’re passing it on to you in the same firsthand, personal way.
    1 Corinthians 2:6‭-‬10 MSG
“The Spirit…dives into the depths of God. He wants us to have a deeper relationship with God. Too many are only His acquainted with the Lord of glory. We need to know Him and be convinced the way of the cross is the best life for us.

  27. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Anyone can make a speech and or put some great words together. The difference is the action. The difference is the move of God. The difference is the demonstration of the Spirit in Power and truth. It is only by the Spirit of God that things change. Lives are impacted destinies redirected and eternities set all by the the power and demonstration of the Spirit of God. There is no substitute for it. Greater things the Word says we shall do. Only through the power of the Holy Ghost.

  28. Josiah: 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
It is amazing what God can reveal to one as one studies the Word. Having a relationship with God greatly helps one understand the scriptures because it lets one be sensitive to what God may be trying to show them. So, let us GO GROW SPIRITUALLY AND GROW IN KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORD OF GOD IN JESUS NAME!

  29. 4 And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.

There are many who only want to listen to preaching when wisdom and big words are used, or they want to hear someone who has a degree in theology. They believe someone who is smart knows alot more. They fail to realize, they may know the bible but don’t feel the bible. I rather hear from someone who is led by the Spirit than someone with a degree. A man of God, hears from God and feels and has a relationship with God.

  30. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

This verse reminds me of Jeremiah 29:14
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
And a Cross Reference Proverbs 8:17
I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

These verses just speak to me about seeking and searching for the things of God. God will reveal to them the love, search and seek. But it is not a one sided process where God just doles out his mysteries. God is looking and watching for those that Love him and are seeking Him with all their hearts. May I continue to search and to seek out the things of God.

  31. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The reason it is so hard for people who are not hungry. People who are hungry listen with their spiritual man. People who are not hungry listen with their natural man. For us to continue to grow in the Lord we must continue to walk in the spiritual man’s shoes for when we lose our love and walk in natural shoes we are a clanging symbol who doesn’t get people to the Lord, it just causes confusion.

  32. “But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬
