Happy Thanksgiving!

Read Proverbs Chapter 22

1 Corinthians 8

Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

  1. The message here shows us how are seemingly harmless behavior can cause others to stray away from the Lord. When we interact with other believers we need make a conscious effort to think about the repercussions of our actions.

  2. 11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

We should always try to be sensitive to each other’s downfalls and hang ups. While something may not be sin for us, it may cause our brother to fall and we should be careful and sensitive to the spirit that it not cause them to fall as well. We need to be linked together inner spirits to sharpen and strengthen one another when we are weak. The Bible tells us that iron sharpens iron so should we follow this principle and keep each other accountable and strong. the Bible has more scripture on brotherly love then most other topics, because we are to be mindful of each other and to help one another as a family.

  3. 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

Knowledge is a powerful tool that can be used to skillfully win souls. However, we don’t use the knowledge wisely, and it becomes a stumbling block to others because we try to cramp knowledge into new believers before they can handle it. Thus the reason why the Bible declare, he who win with souls is wise.

The old saying people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care is very true. Exercise the love spoke about in this scripture and love people to the truth by word, deed and example and then they will accept the knowledge you have for them.

9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
    10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

One of the most impactful statements in Leadership that I have heard taught is “Leaders Surrender Privileges”. In other words, as a Church Leader there are some things that might not convict or condemn me, but I surrender my right to practice those for concern that a new believer may be confused or offended.

This principal is a 2 way street, likewise there are certain things that I have come to love as an Apostolic Born Again, One GOD believer and I do participate in faithfully for the same purpose. Such as:

    Faithfully attend Church
    Fervently pray for others
    Actively Praise
    Greet and welcome new people
    Routinely give offerings to Church
    Joyfully serve in Ministry
    Prayerfully live Holy before GOD
Wisely abstain from evil influence in this world
    Humbly respect others
    Pray boldly in the Spirit
    Read my Bible every day

This is just a short list as an example of what what I feel may cause a spirit of apathy or apostacy to rise up in believers. Also this passage is the foundation of why we practice an annual commitment to Discipleship, Leadership and Ministry covenants at The POFW. To protect us and prayerfully influence others to LIVE their LIFE for JESUS.

I am Thankful today for each of you and I Bless you all in the Name of The Lord JESUS.

  5. 1Corinthians 8
8-9 But fortunately God doesn’t grade us on our diet. We’re neither commended when we clean our plate nor reprimanded when we just can’t stomach it. But God does care when you use your freedom carelessly in a way that leads a fellow believer still vulnerable to those old associations to be thrown off track.

Lest I become a stumbling block to someone. There are many things in this world that are not sin. Yet there are some things as a Christian we choose not to do. It may not make sense to others involved and you may be the odd duck at times but when serving in the Kingdom you may not always fit in. Am I willing to make the sacrifice? I pray so. As we consider today as a day of giving thanks I’m thankful for the life of those who I was surrounded by through out my life.
Godly examples leave impressionable prints upon the heart. For you I give thanks.

  6. 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

Use wisdom when acting on what you know

  7. So if what I eat causes another believer to sin, I will never eat meat again as long as I live—for I don’t want to cause another believer to stumble.
    1 Corinthians 8:13 NLT

What does our conversation say to other believers? What are we doing that may cause someone else to stumble?

  8. 1 Cor. 8:1 & 9-13 (amp)
    1) … but love (that unselfishly seeks the best for others) builds up and encourages others to grow (in wisdom).

    9) Only be careful that this liberty of yours (this power to choose) does not somehow become a stumbling block (that is, a temptation to sin) to the weak (in conscience).
    10) For if someone sees you, a person having knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, then if he is weak, well he not be encouraged to eat things sacrificed to idols (and violate his own convictions)?
    11) For through your knowledge (spiritual maturity) this weak man is ruined (that is, he suffered in his spiritual life), the brother for whom Christ died.
    12) And when you sin against the brothers or sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience (by confusing them), you sin against Christ.
    13) Therefore, if (my eating a certain) food causes my brother to stumble (sin), I will not eat (such) meat ever again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

    1 John 2:10 (amp)
“The one who loves and unselfishly seeks the best for his (believing) brothers lives in the Light, and in him there is no occasion for stumbling or offense (he does not hurt the cause of Christ or lead others to sin).”

  9. As I read these scriptures, the one phrase that sticks out in my mind is self indulgent. No matter how much we try to give to the kingdom, if we are not doing it for the right reasons or even in the right spirit, we can become self indulged for our own selves. We could possibly become very contagious to the new comer and new believer.

We have to focus on the way we give ourselves to the kingdom, even a faithful saint can become overly aggressive with how they present themselves to others. It might appear more self righteousness than humility and love for the things of God. My prayer is always allow me God to put others before myself regardless of what capacity I am in. Let thy will be done , not my will Jesus.

    I love the Kingdom!

  10. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
There is one God and He is the same yesterday today and forever. God can play fulfill many roles ( He is our healer, our savior, our creater, etc) and He can manifest or reveal Himself to us. He fulfilled the role of the Father, He manifested himself and fulfilled the role of Son and His spirit is called the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost. However God is still one God who just fulfills many roles and reveals Himself to mankind in unique ways.

  11. 5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

    Praise God!

  12. Pride comes in many forms. The enemy is always looking for a means to cause us to stumble our offend. Even in our strengths we must be careful to remain humble, and even in the greater revelation that God has provided for his people. We don’t become caught up in pride of that revelation, we’re ever thankful for his truth! We have received that revelation to make a difference both in ourselves and in the lives of those around us, not to puff up ourselves.

Paul reminds us of this saying, ‘And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. But if any man love God, the same is known of him.’ We will never know anything in the fullness of the fashion in which God intended it. His thoughts will always be greater than our own. When people come to us, they’re not looking for people full of knowledge, they’re looking for people full of love. Our knowledge is what makes that love effective, but it is a gift from God. We didn’t produce it, it was revealed unto us, so let his love be in evidence. Teach the truth in love! Demonstrate his compassion in love! Return his love unto him and allow it to be seen and felt by all!

  13. 10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

We are to lift one another up and help our brothers and sisters grow closer towards God, not to be a stumbling block. Just taking the time to ensure that our actions will help others to draw closer to Jesus rather than sink away from him can make all the difference in not only their lives and walk but ours as well.

  14. “But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.”
    1 Corinthians 8:12 KJV

Any time we sin against our brother, and act in a way that could wound his faith, we sin against God. How many fewer backsliders would there be if we treated each other with the same deference and respect that we would treat Jesus if He were among us?

There is no excuse for being unkind, unthoughtful, rude, or dismissive toward any child of God—especially toward those who are already struggling. Paul teaches in every church he writes to that we are to prefer one another and to live in a manner that supports the weakest members of the body. We cannot dismiss another’s convictions lightly, simply because we feel we are superior to them in knowledge and revelation. To purposely do that which we know could offended our brother is to offend God. There is no revelation that exempts us from our responsibility to love others above ourselves.

“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”
    1 Corinthians 13:13 KJV

  15. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

And If God knows you, you are not going to hear I knew you not on that day. instead you will hear well done. Also in earth for them that love God He is going to work all things for good. There are so many blessings for loving God, but now and hereafter. May I Love God more and more, and my love for God always be growing and not stop.

  16. Idol Food

“But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8:9-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Many things are offered into idols. One of which is our time. We can offer our time to things like TV, hobbies, sports, and people. When these things take place over the Lord is when they are your idol. They can be stumbling blocks for someone who has walked away from those idols prior to you. If you are with a new believer or someone who has overcome you just might be confusing then as to why you are eating that given to idols. We need to be careful not to cause these dear little ones to be confused or move away from God.

  17. 12But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

In order for us to have His Kingdom Come, we should be cautions to not become a stumbling block to our brothers and sisters. Let us be mindful to help one another. Thank you Jesus for Hos saving Grace

  18. “Only be careful that this liberty of yours [this power to choose] does not somehow become a stumbling block [that is, a temptation to sin] to the weak [in conscience]. For if someone sees you, a person having knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, then if he is weak, will he not be encouraged to eat things sacrificed to idols [and violate his own convictions]? For through your knowledge (spiritual maturity) this weak man is ruined [that is, he suffers in his spiritual life], the brother for whom Christ died. And when you sin against the brothers and sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience [by confusing them], you sin against Christ. Therefore, if [my eating a certain] food causes my brother to stumble (sin), I will not eat [such] meat ever again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.”
    ‭‭1 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭8:9-13‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Paul makes the principle clear. Our actions can never be based only on what we know to be right for ourselves. We also need to consider what is right towards our brothers and sisters in Jesus.

It is easy for a Christian to say, “I answer to God and God alone” and to ignore his brother or sister. It is true we will answer to God and God alone, but we will also answer to God for how we have treated our brother or sister.

When we, with our actions, cause our brother or sister to go against their own convictions, it is not only them we offend, but we offend Jesus too.

The easiest way to be a leader and not become a stumbling block is to be like Jesus!

  19. But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
    1 Corinthians 8:12‭-‬13 KJV
This is also love in action, when you think of others enough to deny yourself some things in order to not be a stumbling block. Paul takes it as far as to call it sinning against your brother, if you are aware of the weakness, which in turn is sinning against the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
    Philippians 2:3‭-‬5 KJV

  20. But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
    1 Corinthians 8:9‭-‬13 KJV

I know what it means to stumble. I’m my own worst enemy. My mind has caused me to turn from God. I don’t want to be a stumbling block for a new believer. I have to be mindful of the things that I say and do. I thank Jesus eceryday for giving me a fresh mind each day. For showing me how being faithful in Him and in His word I can grow. I know I have areas to grow in still, but God is filling my void and keeping me on the right path. I’m thankful for my new life in Christ and for the help maybe God has given me.

  21. But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

I am thankful that I serve the ONE TRUE LIVING GOD! He’s not dead, he’s not false, he’s not an Idole, he doesn’t need help, he is God all by him sself!
I’m thankful For God in my life that is continuously doing a work in my life! Im thankful for My Hubby, Dakota, And My POFW Family, Pastor and Sister Watts, and my family at home! Thank you Jesus, for all you do continually in my life!
    IBLESSYOUINTHENAMEOFJESUS

  22. 10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

It about leading with love in mind. Not all things may be bad or sinful, yet for the love of other younger believers in the faith, and that it may not cause any confusion much less be a stumbling block for them, the leader should use his knowledge and wisdom in love. Not only being watchful of his personal walk but also of those that may follow or he watching him or her.

  23. “For if someone sees you, a person having knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, then if he is weak, will he not be encouraged to eat things sacrificed to idols [and violate his own convictions]? For through your knowledge (spiritual maturity) this weak man is ruined [that is, he suffers in his spiritual life], the brother for whom Christ died. And when you sin against the brothers and sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience [by confusing them], you sin against Christ. Therefore, if [my eating a certain] food causes my brother to stumble (sin), I will not eat [such] meat ever again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.”
    ‭‭1 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭8:10-13‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We must carefully consider our actions and words. Someone is always looking up to us. A leader leads at all times. And leaders surrender privileges.

  24. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

Depart from me ye workers of iniquity, I never knew you.

I tell my children that the most wonderful thing about God and the scariest thing about him, is the exact same thing…. He knows your heart.

God knows the thoughts of my heart and when I am intentional or do something out of ignorance. I can fool the world but God stands alone in judgment.

If we truly love God the word says we will both keep his commandments and feed his sheep. These things are not to somehow prove that you love God because remember he knows your heart. These things show the world that we love God.

13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

The world is watching my actions and Jesus is watching my heart IN my actions. Holiness is just as much for the sinner as it is for us. Keeping ourselves separate will keep us with God but it also gives a undeniable example to the sinner we are reaching for.

So I want to have the testimony of Enoch and to please God and to have the testimony of Paul and to hold myself accountable in the sight of the world so that I may reach them.

Today I’m going to show my family that I love God by my actions and please God with my heart.

1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

This scripture clearly informs us that knowledge puffs up. The more knowledge the more puffed up… the smarter the more Pride and the bigger need for humility.

  26. “But for us, There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live.”(1 Corinthians‬ ‭8:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

We know that Jesus is our Lord God. We serve one God and their is one faith, one Lord and one baptism in Jesus name. Their is no one beside him, because he created the world all by himself.

  27. 2. Just because a person presumes to have some bit of knowledge, that person doesn’t necessarily have the right kind of knowledge. Voice

Partial knowledge can cause complete disaster.
That’s why everyone witnessing in court is asked to “tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”
As people of the Kingdom of God, who is omniscient and omnipresent, we are always in His court, and should make sure we always speak Truth.

    John 3:21
But he that doeth Truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.KJV

    John 8:32
And ye shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free. KJV

  28. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

In some religions, the followers leave food before their idols as an offering to their gods. The funny thing is we worship the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the land the waters, sky, moon, stars and sun .. and oh yes the vegetation and people. These are the very people he allows to offer offerings to a false god. Sadly they waste their food and other things in hopes of pleasing something that cannot save them. The only thing that can save them is Jesus and the blood he shed for our forgiveness. Their is only one God and his name is Jesus. Instead of us supplying him food he feeds us physically and spiritually.

  29. 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

I have read this so many times, and I just now caught it. When we grow in knowledge, our pride raises up, and we become idols to ourselves, deceiving ourselves.

  30. 5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Praise God, I am thankful to know who he is.

  31. 1 Corinthians 8:6 (Amp) Yet for us there is, [ only ] one God, the Father, Who is the Source of all things and for Whom we [ have life] and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through and by Whom all things and through and by Whom are all things and through and by Whom we [ ourselves exist. ] [ Mal. 2:10 ] Have we not all one Father ? Has not one God created us ? Why then do we deal faithlessly and treacherously each against his brother or sister, programming the covenant of [ God with] our father’s ? Juda has been faithless and dealt treacherously, and an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. There only one God that created all heavens and earth . I don’t want to be a stumbling block or hinder my bother or sister to be wounded or offended by any means. Lord enlightenment your knowledge of spiritual things. I love my Pastor and Sister Watts and my church family . Be bless in Jesus name.

  32. Verse 6 CEV “We have only one God, and he is the Father. He created everything, and we live for him. Jesus Christ is our only Lord. Everything was made by him, and by him life was given to us.” Christ paid a price for me so that I may have life….thank you Lord.

  33. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

We should be known for our love of God. When others see us they should also see Christ in us. Let us not be a stumbling block to others and be mindful of what and how we represent ourselves.

  34. 12And when you sin against other believersc by encouraging them to do something they believe is wrong, you are sinning against Christ.

Don’t let your actions cause others to sin. Be an example for others to follow.
