1 Corinthians 9

Am I am not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?

If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,

Have we not power to eat and to drink?

Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?

Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?

For it is written in the law of Moses, thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?

14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

  1. 1 Corinthians 9:9-11
Paul reminds us here of an Old Testament principle concerning the animals they used to labor in their fields. ‘For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?’ If they were going to use them to plow their fields to reap the harvest to sustain themselves, they could partake as well.

This was a principle considered fair even unto the animals that worked in the natural harvest. Paul pointed out that ‘If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?’ He is speaking here concerning our tithes and offerings that are necessary to fund the activities and ministry of the church. This becomes more evidence several verses later when he says ‘Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.’

If we want the greater spiritual blessing of a ministry that is whole heatedly committed to the spiritual work of God, we need to support it ourselves. God provides for his ministry through his people. The ministry depends upon the giving of those they minister unto. This is the way God set it up and it allows everyone to have a part! In Jesus name!

  2. You know that many runners enter a race, and only one of them wins the prize. So run to win! Athletes work hard to win a crown that cannot last, but we do it for a crown that will last forever.
    1 Corinthians 9:24‭-‬25 CEV
Our labor is never in vain. It is all about His KINGDOM. A.L.M.A.S/S.O.U.L.S This is what we labor for. Every soul is precious in His sight❤

  3. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (amp)
    24) Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!
    25) All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
    26) So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.
    27) I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

“The Race That Is Set Before Us” (Heb. 12:1)
    Run with Purpose
    Run to Win
We’re in It to Win It – the eternal prize

  4. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

Of course Paul is not talking about being carnal to win carnal people, he’s talking about finding a common ground with every individual he possibly can so that he may win some of them. You don’t win souls ONLY by JUST inviting people all the time, but by building relationships with individuals around you to build trust and when they ask about the hope that lies in you, you have the answer because of the relationship you built

  5. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

  6. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

To obtain the incorruptible isn’t going.to be as easy as obtaining the corruptible crown, ALL good things come with a price!!!

  7. Paul was called by God. I find it disheartening when any man of God must explain all that he has done in order to justify their livelihood.
Paul spoke with an authority that Gid had given him. He was doing nothing because of a paycheck but because it was what God had called hiim to do. I’ve seen men who have left multi million dollar jobs to go take the gospel to places where there was not even a meal offered. Many have paid a great sacrifice to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to this world. I say thank you and thank you again.

  8. 24Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. (NLT)

No matter how much we participate in the things of the church, for if we are not disciplined enough to train our minds, bodies, and spirits then we will fail. The scripture tells us to run this race with patience but if we had not prepared or as it states study to show ourselves approved then we are just going to go through the motions. We will not be an example to no one while we are trying to witness to them that need to be saved. It takes discipline to be a disciple and a worker for the kingdom of God. Charge ahead when you become prepared to battle the enemy.

    I love the Kingdom!

  9. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
The Word of God is the same yesterday today and forever. The Word has one interpretation but has many applications. Although the Word still means the same thing how we present the Word to different people makes a drastic change. So, let us GO TEACH THE GOSPEL to this world so they can understand it!

  10. 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

    20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

  11. 19Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. 20When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law. 21When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law,d I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.

22When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

There’s no telling the multitude of souls brought into the Kingdom by Paul’s formula for reaching people. Funny how the reason why God created man turns out to be the same vehicle that can save them-RELATIONSHIP!

  12. Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
    1 Corinthians 9:24‭ KJV

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
    Revelation 3:15‭-‬16 KJV

God has as called us to whole-hearted devotion. There are people who decide it would be great to run in a marathon, perhaps to support a good cause. For a while, they put in some training to get themselves in shape. They are not trying to be the fastest or the strongest; they just need to put in enough effort so that they can finish the race.

Then there are those who decide they are going to make it to the Olympics. They train every day for practically their whole lives. Everything they eat, everything they do revolves around their dream of winning Olympic gold. They are not content with bronze or silver. They give it their all with dreams of being the best. They work, they sacrifice, they endure hardship, they cut out all distractions.

Being a Christian should be an all-consuming passion. It is not something we try; it is something we pour our whole lives, strength, and resources into. We need to run this race to win it, lest we drop out when the going gets tough.

  13. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

When I teach, I try to find how to communicate effectively to the student. I find I may have to state something different ways until I see understanding on the face or in the eyes. Why just talk when there is no understanding? Try to know the person and relate to them. Don’t be condescending or talk down to anyone, meet them where they are.

  14. Amp – 22 To the [f]weak I became [as the] weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means [in any and every way] save some [by leading them to faith in Jesus Christ]

The footnote in the amplified bible for this verse states – 1 Corinthians 9:22 Paul may be talking about those with spiritually immature consciences regarding questionable issues (see ch 8). If so, he means that he abstained from any practice which he knew was actually acceptable for him, but capable of posing a bad example for others who were less mature spiritually.

This really made me think. Although there are many things that we abstain from that are not sin or a heaven or hell issue, yet for our example sake we chose to discipline ourselves from those. This would be a good question to ask ourselves on a daily basis. Is what I’m doing going to taint my example of living for the Lord in others eye? If so, then I must discipline myself so that my testimony stays in tact. The Kingdom of God and salvation is more important that a mere activity that brings pleasure for a season.

  15. The same as you.

23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

We are the same. We are all sinner saved by Jesus through His death and resurrection. Paul says here, he is like these different people. Some jews and gentiles, some strong and some weak. And, just like Paul we should show others that we are just like them, human. Now this does not give us authority to become worldly and says its ok. But it is through our testimony that we can show the power of God’s love and how it can change us. We can all be partakers of His saving Grace. Let us show our world the Love of God and Grow His Kingdom.

  16. 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

In the context of this verse, it is clear that God has instituted an order similar as the Old Testament.

The Levite’s did not have an inheritance amongst the Israelites. So God have them the offering and tithing for them to receive. It was they way God established for the priesthood to eat and live off of.

Apparently the Corinthians had a problem with this particular issue. My Father always taught me, give what you must and give willingly and with a cheerful heart, don’t ever give thought to what is done with what you give, give it as unto God.

  17. THY KINGDOM COME
    PURPOSE

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

The Kingdom of GOD is about so much more than sets of rules and religious responsibilities. However a life in The Kingdom of GOD will reveal these particular traits. The key to Kingdom Living is understanding Kingdom Purpose.

Our Kingdom Purpose is to FINISH this race in the Gospel and bring as many people as we can with us. Reaching, Teaching and Preaching for the conversion of souls.

Undrestanding my PURPOSE in HIS Kingdom is imperative to me obtaining an incorruptible crown so I run to WIN. We are not in training as one that beateth the air or shadow boxes. We are in a real fight for life. We must be serious about going to heaven and living our lives in the gospel.

“Wasn’t he actually speaking to us? Yes, it was written for us, so that the one who plows and the one who threshes the grain might both expect a share of the harvest.”

The reason The Pentecostals of Fort Worth are experiencing harvest is because we expect to receive of the harvest through investing into the harvest. We have to stand on the promises of God in the spirit of expectation and remind the Lord of the Harvest that we need our spiritual fruit from our investment

  19. 1 Corinthians 9 : 22 (Amp) To the weak ( wanting in discernment) that I might win the week and over scrupulous. I have [ in short] becomes all things to all men, that I might by all means ( at all costs and in any and every way) save some ( by winning them to faith in Jesus Christ]. Every soul matters to God ! There a big difference in people that were raise up church and people that weren’t raise in church. Start a conversation with people , Let them talk first . Then share the gospel with them. What does the Word stay hate the sin and love the sinner. I give God the glory and Honer. Lord bless America Today in Jesus name.

  20. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

We have to be an example, when I first came to POFW, I couldn’t pray in the prayer room, without Coming on agreement with Sister Watts, or Sister Cricket Or both, lol, because they were an example of praying with boldness. I want to be an example to new believers at church, or future ones that come in work, we have to practice what we preach, if we say we love to praise and then don’t, that’s not a great example for someone who is looking at you not praising, and their shy to praise so rocks are praising for both of us, If I dont want to or don’t feel like it, then I gotta bring my flesh in subjection, and get my praise on!

  21. 18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
Having the spirit of a servant to do the will of God for the sole purpose of pleasing Jesus will bless us far more than anything on Earth every could.

  22. 11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

  23. 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

Jesus showed this example first. This is why the Pharisees were so mad. Jesus went and ate with the sinners. He did not sin but he did fellowship with the sinner. There are examples all over the Bible on how we should treat this cause. We are the light of the world…. how can you be the light if you never go into the darkness? Let your light so shine among men…. You have to be with the men for your light to shine among them. The reality is that you have to be steadfast and hold on to the gospel while reaching for the lost. I loved the way Bro Godwin said that he was taught by the elders… you have to keep one hand on the word and the other in the fire. To reach a sinner you have to first be their friend. Jesus was a friend of sinners.

  24. 22 to the week I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. Now this I do for the gospels sake, that I may be partake of it with you.

  25. Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
    1 Corinthians 9:13‭-‬14 KJV
    https://bible.com/bible/1/1co.9.13-14.KJV

To minister of the Holy things; didn’t write understand it the first time I read it. Then it hit me. To be closer to the kingdom: I need to open up and speak of the good things that God has done in my life. Speak my testimony; tell others of the joy that God has brought into my life. Teach them the word and bring them to the truth about the glory of the Kingdom.

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
    1 Corinthians 9:26‭-‬27 KJV
    https://bible.com/bible/1/1co.9.26-27.KJV

So I need to run my race with certainty that i will not only glory myself in His Kingdom, but to bring others with me. I also need to bring my body and mind into subjection for the glory of the Lord. Christ made me who I am and it is my decision to serve Him well and bring His good word to others. I thank you Jesus for setting my path and filling me with the joy to run to your Kingdom and not the kingdom of the world.

  26. 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

All too often we fail to search out the scriptures, and therefore we miss many of the truths that Jesus is trying to teach us.

  27. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Just as we train for sports to bring the body to where it needs to go. So that we can accomplish what needs to be done. We must also do the same on the spiritual side. Or we will be like someone out of shape running a race and a little chance of winning or finishing the race. So may I continuly train my and keep my body under subjection, so that I walk after the spiritand not after the flesh.

  28. Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
    1 Corinthians 9:14 KJV
Paul goes to great lengths to prove the point of this verse. Then he says that he would not take advantage of it because he was more concerned with reaching people with the Gospel.
What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
    1 Corinthians 9:18 KJV
Paul was so concerned with reaching the lost that he did everything he could to ensure nobody would accuse him of abusing his position.

  29. When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.
    1 Corinthians 9:22‭-‬23 NLT

Not that we become sinners to the sinners but that we live life and connect with everyone not thinking ourselves better than anyone but showing them the way to Jesus.

  30. Friend in Jesus

I love this last scripture in 1 Corinthians 9:27.
I have to bring my body into submission to Jesus.
Not only my spirit, soul…but my body also. I havent been doing that too much lately. But now i know that all the cares of this world are nothing compared to loving God and being submissive to the Lord.

Ive been making alot of jokes w my friends about Nelly the rapper and listening to his music ect. I guess to each his own. But now even if its a joke sometimes Jesus doesnt think its too funny if it goes against his Word.

    LORD please forgive me
I will try harder to keep my eyes on you and submit this fleshly body being obedient to what i know i should be doing.
    I follow you Jesus.

  31. It is important for us to make connections with those we are trying to reach so they can see their life change as obtainable. When we live life with people we become like them and they become like us. We can then lead some of them to Christ.

  32. 1 Corinthians 9
10b he that ploweth (works with the soil-the world) shall plow in hope; and that he that thresheth (releases the good seed) in hope should be partaker of his hope (hope in Christ)

14 even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live (be an example) of the gospel.
I’m glad we have godly examples at POFW!

  33. Verse 24 AMP “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run [their very best to win], but only one receives the prize? Run [your race] in such a way that you may seize the prize and make it yours!” This verse reminded me of the song “I Will Run” that says:

    So I will run
    Forever I will run
    Unto You oh God
And now You have my heart
So I will I will run
    Forever I will run
    Run to You oh God
    Where else can I go
    Forever I will run

  34. 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

Old saying goes, “practice what you preach.” Everything we do or say should fall in line with the word. Sometimes you find those who can offer sweet words or portray an image of what they want you to see and behind closed doors or away from the church they live and represent themselves completely different. Gotta be careful.

  35. 18What then is my pay? It is the opportunity to preach the Good News without charging anyone. That’s why I never demand my rights when I preach the Good News.

Yes take the opportunity to speak the Word when possible. Speak the Word to others. Don’t expect anything in return. It’s a privilege to speak, and testify about the Word.

  36. Taking part in the harvest

This chapter explains how the ox that threashes the wheat also gets to eat of it. The same way the ministers that bring forth the harvest of souls live off of the tithes and offerings of the church. The harvest that is overlooked is what is already in the barn. We, the saved are also part of His harvest. It doesn’t matter how much wheat is going in the barn if just as much is being stolen out of the back. We are His harvest. We have to take care of His harvest.

  37. “To the weak I became [as the] weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means [in any and every way] save some [by leading them to faith in Jesus Christ]. And I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings along with you.”
    ‭‭1 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭9:22-23‬ ‭AMP‬‬

As we are observant of the people around us and get in unity with Christ we will be wise and win the lost for the Kingdom. We must be relatable to all. And not come across as higher than or untouchable.
