But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?

And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.

14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

  1. Verses 12-15 MSG “When I arrived in Troas to proclaim the Message of the Messiah, I found the place wide open: God had opened the door; all I had to do was walk through it. But when I didn’t find Titus waiting for me with news of your condition, I couldn’t relax. Worried about you, I left and came on to Macedonia province looking for Titus and a reassuring word on you. And I got it, thank God! In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance. Because of Christ, we give off a sweet scent rising to God, which is recognized by those on the way of salvation—an aroma redolent with life. But those on the way to destruction treat us more like the stench from a rotting corpse.” Today in Sunday School we are learning about Sharing the Gospel. Each and every one of us has a testimony that we can share because ONE person can make a difference in MANY lives, if that person will just share what he knows. Our lesson says while we might have great ideas and plans, the Holy Spirit must be present, leading and guiding us in our endeavors. People need to hear the gospel to know how to be saved. If you know how to be saved, then you need to tell others. From the north to the south and from the east to the west, we can tell the world about Jesus and start our victory parade.

  2. 9For this is why I wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything. 10Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, 11so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs. (ESV)

    Paul tell us staying he wants to test us to know whether we will be obedient in everything that concerns the kingdom of God. As we walk with God and we submit ourselves in humility before the throne of God in everything we do, we need not worry because if we have faith to trust God then we will be prepared to face satan and his schemes or plans to derail us in any way he can.

    Scripture states in 1 John 4:4-
    Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

    We should not allow our faith to fall short for God has not left us a way out of our troubles when satan comes in like a flood we have to raise a standard against him. We can and will be victorious over him.

    I love the Kingdom!

  3. Paul really sets the example of church leadership though his expression of grief, for thoes in the church body that are experiencing grief. Moreover this scripture reminds us how our restlessness can be the Holy Spirit prompting us to focus on another avenue. Likewise we can see in verse 12 that the Lord will open doors of opportunity when we are focused on edifying the body of Christ.

  4. THY KINGDOM COME
    PARTIAL OBEDIENCE = DISOBEDIENCE

    9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

    The Apostle was Leading by the church and as Bishop Foster often says, he was engaged in “inspect what you expect”. Good Leaders will establish guidelines or boundaries in the organization, based a core value; law, safety, production or some other conviction. At The POFW we choose the WORD of GOD as our core value and establish expectations and guidelines for Church Membership, Leadership and Ministry.

    It is imperative that we understand and practice our FAITH on the principal fact of PARTIAL OBEDIENCE is DISOBEDIENCE. The apostle writes a 2nd letter to the church in Corinth for accountability purposes; to know the proof whether they are obedient in all things.

    JESUS help us to commit to this New Season of “First The Kingdom” with the mindset, conviction and determination to BE OBEDIENT IN ALL THINGS.

  5. 11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

    Always beware of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. God has given us the fruits of the spirit to help us be aware of satan’s devices. You’re spirit will tell you when there are red flags and to be cautious.

  6. II Corinthians 2
    Another reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 10 Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

    We must walk after the Spirit and not the flesh. Forgiveness takes an act of obedience but becomes love when filled with compassion for Gods Kingdom.
    We cannot allow anything to tear down the work of God.

    Forgiveness was shown at the death of Jesus Christ when He said forgive them true forgiveness is when the pain is so deep yet love goes beyond.
    His love is perfect. If we can just have a portion and share it . In Jesus name.

    1. A believer’s triumphs are all in Christ. In ourselves we are weak, and have neither joy nor victory; but in Christ we may rejoice and triumph. 2.     As soon as I read that verseI could hear us singing it! I believe that when we are in align with the word and we are doing the things that we committed to, and God is the main focus everyday in the word everyday in prayer everything is so much sweeter, our praise, our offerings are a sweet snelling, tasting savoury to his lips, but when we aren’t 100% in our relationship with him, I believe that God takes it as a mockery because he knows that we know the truth, and he’s seen us on fire, and he’s seen our filegence, and now the opposite, Lorx help me to be sweet savoury in my life song to you, in praising, in giving, in prayer, in studying!

  10. 2 Corinthians 2: 9-10 (Amp) For this was my purpose in writing you, to test your attitude and see if you would stand test , whether you are obedient and altogether agreeable [ to following my orders] in everything. [10] If you forgive anyone or anything, I too forgive that one; and what I have forgive anything, has been for your sakes in the presence ( And with the approval ) of Christ the Messiah.   12. The devil is a sly old fox

    11. Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

    How can we be aware of the snares and tricks of satan but still allow him to influence our lives. We can be presented with a choice we know is not quite right allow our inner dialogue and reasoning to make the wrong choice. Why? Why do we do this?

    Paul puts it this way: What I don’t understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise. So if I can’t be trusted to figure out what is best for myself and then do it, it becomes obvious that God’s command is necessary. But I need something more! For if I know the law but still can’t keep it, and if the power of sin within me keeps sabotaging my best intentions, I obviously need help! I realize that I don’t have what it takes. I can will it, but I can’t do it. I decide to do good, but I don’t really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. My decisions, such as they are, don’t result in actions. Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time.

    If Paul who walked beside Jesus and witnessed with his eyes has this struggle; what are my chances? I have six words: But by the grace of God.

  13. 10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

    11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

    Unforgiveness gives our enemy an advantage over us. We clearly see in the Word that to be forgiven we must forgive. Allowing a spirit of unforgiveness to reside in us, can grow into a root of bitterness. Not forgiving someone doesn’t harm them, it harms us.

    The enemy is sly and will take advantage of any opportunity given. Let’s close the door on unforgiveness. Forgive, get over it and move on Don’t hold grudges, don’t cut yourself off from those who hurt you, forgive and allow God to heal the wound so that all can be saved.

  14. If you forgive anyone, I do too. For what I have forgiven — if I have forgiven anything — it is for you in the presence of Christ. I have done this so that we may not be taken advantage of by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his schemes.

    Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

    Lack of submission and bitterness are two of the devices the enemy uses to throw a church off track. If either of these take root in a church, then disease spreads rather than life and revival is halted. We must guard the atmosphere of the church by guarding our own hearts and closing our ears to any who would rebellion or bitterness.

  15. 14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

  16. I Love To Worship The Lord
    THE GOSPELS AROMA (14-17)
    Just as O.T. sacrifices for sin made on O.T. alters sent out an aroma so Pauls ministry and life wafts the unique fragrance of knowledge of God among mankind. The odor attracts some and repels others. Ones response makes the difference between life and death.

  17. 12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

    We all have our own calling to attend to but that doesn’t mean we can’t be affectionate and help each other with our burdens. Paul took Titus underneath his wing and took care of him and taught him about the ministry while he had his own Ministry. He was carrying his baton and passing on another one. We must learn to walk in our own calling while helping each other and caring enough for each others burden. At the end of the day when we all lay our heads down we are all aiming towards the same goal which is taking the gospel to the world

  18. 17 You see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us. (NLT)

    Just like Pastor preached to us this morning, we are to preach the gospel. The Kingdom is within us, its ours to share, it’s our duty to share. Get tapped into The Kingdom and share the gospel!!!

  19. 5-8 (MSG) Now, regarding the one who started all this—the person in question who caused all this pain—I want you to know that I am not the one injured in this as much as, with a few exceptions, all of you. So I don’t want to come down too hard. What the majority of you agreed to as punishment is punishment enough. Now is the time to forgive this man and help him back on his feet. If all you do is pour on the guilt, you could very well drown him in it. My counsel now is to pour on the love.
    9The focus of my letter wasn’t on punishing the offender but on getting you to take responsibility for the health of the church. So if you forgive him, I forgive him.

    Paul’s goal, God’s goal in church discipline is for the protection of the church body. Once the offender takes responsibility for their sin and repents, then the healing and restoration process can take place.

  20. The power of forgiveness is an obvious strength to our walk with God. Paul reminds us that it goes beyond ourselves and can be of great benefit to the overall body as well, because ‘To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.’

    There is a two fold point to be made here. The first is the obvious division and weakness of the body that comes from an unforgiving spirit. It gives our enemy the foothold he needs to worm his way in and begin to sow discord among us. How can the body work effectively together if we can’t even forgive the trespasses amongst us? Just as a daily walk of repentance and forgiveness is important to bring strength in our personal walk, it is important to our strength and unity as a body!

    Consider now the reverse aspect of Paul’s analogy. If unforgiveness brings such weakness in our collective body, what does it do to our personal walk with God? If it allows the enemy to sow amongst the very body of Christ, what confusion do we allow into our own walk? Jesus commanded us to forgive if we wanted his forgiveness in return. It is not an option, it is not too be withheld our held over another… it was freely given and is expected to be freely given in return! We have enough to overcome in this life without giving the enemy an opportunity to throw more stumbling blocks in our way. Let God have the liberty in our lives as we continue to forgive!

    17) No – but at least we don’t take God’s word, water it down, and then take it to the streets to sell it cheap. We stand in Christ’s presence when we speak; God looks us in the face. We get what we say straight from God and say it as honestly as we can.

    17) A lot of people try to get rich from preaching God’s message. But we are God’s sincere messengers, and by the power of Christ, we speak our message with God as our witness.

    Thank You JESUS for Pastor Watts (who teaches us knowledge and understanding of Your Word), our Ministers, and other Ministers you send to our church that rightly divide Your Word of Truth. Thank You that they don’t water it down or try to get rich off of it. They are preaching Your Word in Truth to see souls saved.

  22. Its about being hungry and thirsty on obeying and being Faithful To God everywhere we go because he is everywhere . Submitting to his Will even though it doesnt make sense . We walk by faith not sight .. Loving him First .

    If I have unforgiveness towards those who have done me wrong, satan wins. The anger doesn’t hurt that person, it only hurts me. When I feel stuck in a situation, I’m going to press through because I know great things are in store. God has forgiven me so many times and I would hate to miss out on heaven for unbelief in what God can do and/or for unforgiveness in my heart.

    Take note concerning this scripture, Paul is writing this and he declares he could find no rest in his spirit because he could not find Titus. This is an awesome example of how we can bond to the man of God. You see, Titus was connected to Paul and helped the man of God. When Paul could not find him, he could find no rest in his spirit. If we truly say we want to be used by the Spirit of God, we need to stay connected so the man of God can rest.

    The devices of satan are simple resentment, unforgiveness, guilt, condemnation, punishment, there are many more. Yes, we need to correct one another for metal sharpens metal, but we can not condemn our brothers/sisters for life!!! We MUST FORGIVE to be forgiven. We must help them get back on their feet. So they fell, are you so free of sin that you can’t offer a hand to their feet. Don’t be a stumbling block by not forgiving! You have a right to guard your heart but don’t harden it so much that it becomes a rock!!! Christ on the cross after being caused the worst pain possible still had the heart to say Luke 23:24 Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. Christ forgave them although they went on to cast lots on His clothing!!!! So they hurt your feelings, forgive them and move on I promised you nothing can compare to what was done to Christ!!!!

    Forgiveness…the easiest and yet at times,hardest thing to do.Nothing is worth missing an eternity with Jesus; regardless of how deep the hurt runs.

  28. Love through forgiveness

    We must love through forgiveness. As Jesus did, he forgave our sins and through that he loved us. We must be like Christ and forgive other as we have been forgive, and love through that forgiveness.

But those on the way to destruction treat us more like the stench from a rotting corpse. This is a terrific responsibility. Is anyone competent to take it on? No—but at least we don’t take God’s Word, water it down, and then take it to the streets to sell it cheap. We stand in Christ’s presence when we speak; God looks us in the face. We get what we say straight from God and say it as honestly as we can.

    Buy the truth and sell it not. We don’t need any more Doctrine watered down and sugar-coated to make us feel good about the poor choices we make and pass on the back when we get offended and hurt by the silliest things. We need a strong Doctrine that keeps us on the path of righteousness, we need our obedience to God and the authority of God in our lives to keep us from getting pulled in to the woes of this world. Once again that’s why I’m so thankful that the pofw is my home and the strong doctrine that we stand on.

    As a Holy Ghost filled man of God I don’t want the world to see me as a horrible fragrance. It’s sad to say that most people look at the church and are literally scared of the “commitment” it’s our job to show them it’s not like that. It’s our job to share our testimony on how NObody but Jesus convicted us to quit doing all the worldly things we was doing.
    Every day we should challenge ourselves to persuade someone towards the kingdom and get them excited about that.

    I know that there is a lot of work that I have to do. God knows my heart and where I’m at in my walk. He knows what I need and where I need to go to get stronger in Him. I know that I need to be in my blog; in His word studying; spending time in prayer. Is my fragrance vital enough for the eternal life promised. No; why because I still allow the world to influence me. This is my struggle.
    Choose this day whom you serve. There is no straddling the fence. Either I choose God now or face the judgement of trying to serve God and the world. I choose this day to turn my walk from a tight rope act of serving both to taking the narrow path that leads to the Kingdom. I choose the Kingdom walk. Thank you Jesus for the word tonight and for setting my feet on a solid foundation to build on. Every step I take I have dominion over that little puddle of water.

    Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

    A good reason to know God’s word. So not only did you know what is coming your way. It also shows you how to win, to what to do and what not to do. Also we are not ignorant or deceived, being blown about with every wind of doctrine. But instead standing in the firm foundation of the word, Knowing what God wants and the snares the lay in the way.

  34. When ministering why minister heavy and down and out, when your trying to help them get out of the same thing! Heaviness is something we all need to get rid of if it isn’t a heavy burden for something of Jesus!

    Jesus can take away your burdens because his yoke is light

    Oh how important it is to forgive. When we have unforgivness then we give the enemy an advantage. God will not forgive if cant forgive first ourselves.

  37. “I wrote to you as I did to test you and see if you would fully comply with my instructions.”(2 Corinthians‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

    In this verse Paul explains to us how God tests us on how we would act out with our attitudes by seeing if we are willing to give ourselves fully to Gods instructions of his word.

  38. 17 You see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us.

    I would hope no one is spreading the Word for personal gain, for recognition or for money. But I’m sure there are a few out there. God will deal with them later. Then they will realize their error in judgement for using God for personal gain.

    Let’s have God’s Word buried deep in our hearts, and we will want to spread the Word with sincerity.
