2 Corinthians 7

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

12 Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

13 Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

14 For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

15 And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

  1. 10. Now this type of deep sorrow, godly sorrow, is not so much about regret; but it is about producing a change of mind and behavior that ultimately leads to salvation. But the other type of sorrow, worldly sorrow, often is fleeting and only brings death. Voice

Regret for past sins alone is not enough; true repentance comes with a decision to not commit the sins again. Nobody said it was going to be easy, but it’s necessary for salvation.

  2. Verse 1 AMP “Therefore, since we have these [great and wonderful] promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, completing holiness [living a consecrated life—a life set apart for God’s purpose] in the fear of God.” Same verse ERV “Dear friends, we have these promises from God. So we should make ourselves pure—free from anything that makes our body or our soul unclean. Our respect for God should make us try to be completely holy in the way we live.”

1 Peter 1:13-16 MSG “So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”

Leviticus 20:7-8 MSG “Set yourselves apart for a holy life. Live a holy life, because I am God, your God. Do what I tell you; live the way I tell you. I am the God who makes you holy.”

  3. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    REPENTANCE

10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Repentance is the message JESUS First preached. Repentance empowers us to escape death and judgement. Repentance aligns our will with the will of GOD. Repentance is so important to our Faith in JESUS that we must repent FIRST.

Repentance establishes FIRST THE KINGDOM in our daily walk with GOD.

Repentance is more than feeling guilty over wrong actions. Repentance is being sorry toward GOD for offending HIS Holy nature and violating HIS Holy Word. “Godly Sorrow” is Kingdom Sorrow, sorrow toward GOD First and then we can repair other relationships.

Lets make the First order of each day REPENTANCE and we will demonstrate, SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

  4. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
    2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
    Acts 11:18 KJV

These are verses I pray often when interceding for others. Many people come to the altar service after service with many tears, nothing in their hearts ever change. They have a worldly sorrow. Generally, they regret the consequences of their actions, but they still love their sin more.

When a godly sorrow grips the heart, the sinner develops a hated for their sin. This person turns away from the sin and makes amends and/ or restitution. He does not try to salvage his pride, cover his acts, or pretend they never happened. He is humbled, broken, and rises up a new creature. This is the repentance we want everyone to have. This is the repentance we should pray that God will give us.

  5. 8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

As a church our hearts need to be prepared to hear nothing but the truth even when it hurts. The gospel isn’t always many to make us feel good but to keep us on the straight and narrow no matter what the word is, to encourage us if we are right and correct us if we are wrong.

  6. 2 Corinthians11For (you can look back now and observe what this same godly sorrow has done for you and produced in you , what eagerness and earnest care to explain and clear yourselves [ of all complicity in the condoning of incest]. What indignation [ at the sin ] what alarm, what yearning
what zeal [ to do justice to all concerned what readkness to meet our punishment [ to the offender] ! At every point you have proved your – selfs cleared and guiltless in the matter. With God produces a repentance that leads and contributes to salvation and directs deliverance from evil, and never brings regret; But the worldly grief [ the hopeless sorrow. Nobody said it was going to be easy to live for God. I t’s up to us to make up our mind’s.

  7. 2 Corinthians 7:1, “Therefore, since we have these (great and wonderful) promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, completing holiness (living a consecrated life – a life set apart for God’s purpose) in the fear of God.” (AMP)

First of all, what are the Promises of God to us?
He will dwell in us; He will walk in us; He will be our God; we will be His people; He will be our Father; and we will be His sons and daughters. (2 Cor. 6:16 & 18)

How do we attain these Promises of God?
By coming out from the world, by separating ourselves from the world, and by not touching the unclean things of the world.
We must cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, cleanse ourselves from EVERYTHING that contaminates body and spirit, and live holy – live a life that is consecrated to God and set apart for His purpose.

  8. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter. Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

I find that there are certain phrases I say all the time, like, I’m sorry, I’m tired, I don’t feel good, I’m hungry. I have to check myself that I’m not just asking God to forgive me out of habit of just saying something, if I offend God, or think I have, I have to really think hard about what I’ve done, and then Ask God to forgive me, I don’t want to play with God. for hes not a God to be played with. hes still the same God that blew up Sodom and Gamorah, hes still the same God that flooded the earth, the bible says Hes the same, So when he says I’m in danger of hell I believe him! So repentance I’s a must! we don’t need to wait until its everlasting to late!

  9. Godly Sorrow
Father cleanse us from anything that would cause us not to be like you.

    Ecclesiastes 10:1
As dead flies cause even a bottle of perfume to stink, so a little foolishness spoils great wisdom and honor.

Paul states he is not rejoicing that trouble or disobedience has come to you but that it is bringing the church closer to God. Godly repentance is not oops I got caught but it’s I’m sorry for being disobedient to the Word of God. Distress through trials and even in make the wrong choices has a way to cause us to search our life . Don’t allow shame or even pride to push you away from the Kingdom of God . Through Jesus there is love and grace that extends beyond human understanding. He is love and He calls all of us to repent. I can do better. I will do better. In Jesus name.

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

  10. In verse 1 Paul says; … let cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. We must make a conscious effort to see our self from a scriptual perspective, to produce a Godly sorrow toword true repentance.

  11. 2 Corinthians Chapter 7 Verse 1

  12. 10 For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. (NLT)

Even in the hardest of times, we have to remember that everything we endure is to the glory of God. It may mean some pain and heart ache, but essentially the purpose is to draw us closer to Him and for Him to be glorified.

  13. “Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.”
    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:9-10‬ ‭NLT

When someone is in the alter it’s important we communicate with them. We don’t know what’s going on or what has been going on. They could be on the verge of give up or giving in. When someone has come to Go confessing their faults and is hurt because of their sin it’s Godly sorrow, but when someone is upset or hurt because they’ve been caught, that’s worldly sorrow.
    Godly sorrow….Wordly sorrow
This is the difference of confession and getting “caught”.

  14. I believe that this passage is about how to receive the lost, and how to receive backsliders. Not to judge but to comfort.

13 Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

  15. When God makes you feel sorry enough to turn to him and be saved, you don’t have anything to feel bad about. But when this world makes you feel sorry, it can cause your death.
    2 Corinthians 7:10 CEV
    Amen!!!!
No matter what you have done in the past, know for sure that without a shadow of a doubt that God has forgiven you of all of your sins! You have been born again of the water and of the spirit! And born into his kingdom!
    Jeremiah 29:11❤❤👍

  16. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Godly sorrow leads to repentance but worldly sorrow is for consequence of sin

  17. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Sometimes when we thank about the goodness of Jesus and all he has done for us, we ought to be sorrowful for the things that we have done prior to repentance. There are many things that the devil will try to put in our mind and spirit to keep us from succeeding in our walk with God.

But thankful for the mighty grace and mercy of God that saved a sinner like me. I’m thankful when the conviction of God reminds me when I faulter and sometimes fail. We have to remember that there was only one that was perfect and he died for us on Calvary. Thank you Jesus.

    I love the Kingdom!

  18. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

  19. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Long time ago I read this verse at a time that I have let myself fall into such a pit of depression that I couldn’t find my way out BUT GOD!!!!! He stepped in and show me the difference between God’s sorrow and worldly sorrow. He helped me by lightening the way out through repentance and life began one more time filled with His Joy that is now my strength!!!! When you feel the weight of this world upon you LOOK UP FOR YOUR HELP COMES FROM ABOVE AND HE IS THE LIFTER OF YOUR HEAD!!!!

  20. 1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

The words of God cannot lie and are forever settled in Heaven, therefore every promise spoken by Him will come to pass. Timing us everything and we must patiently wait for them to come. Hue we we must do our part daily perfecting ourselves into Hom in holiness.

  21. 6 Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;
7 And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

  22. 8 I am not sorry that I sent that severe letter to you, though I was sorry at first, for I know it was painful to you for a little while.

We’ve all heard “this hurts me more then it hurts you” as a child or along the phrase all with the same concept. No parent or loving guardian wants to hurt their child. However, correction is necessary and with correction can cause some type of pain, because let’s be real we all need a little tough love to ensure we are the best we can be.

And I love how NLT puts it, “I was sorry at first” but the understanding of the pain is only for a little while, and the lesson taught if life impacting.

Just as we express tough love to those around us, Jesus will express His tough love to us. Never to hurt us only to build us to where He needs us to be for His Kingdom!

  23. 16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

Sometimes we need that little word of encouragement. It’s nice when someone has confidence in us to do the work of God. Encouragement is a simple way of enhancing someone. Everything thing we do should should be done well and as if we are doing it unto the Lord. Next time you pass that greeter, see someone cleaning, doing the behind the scenes work just say “thank you” and “ you’re doing a great job”! Encourage and Enhance The Kingdom First!

  24. Yes Lord , its important with our walk with God having him in Control of our decisions and choices in life. True repentance , old life gone new life here as I’m always seeking His face .. Time and energy Putting the Kingdom of God First.
1 Having Therefore these promises, dearly beloved let us cleanse ourselfs from all filthiness of the Flesh and spirit, perfecting Holiness in the Fear of God .

  25. iLove the Kingdom
1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Wow, I was just thinking about this earlier…Some folks look holy, act holy, eat holy, smell holy, talk holy, speak holy, holler holy, sing holy, walk holy, run holy, jump holy, cry holy, and portray holy in the flesh but what about the spirit? Perfecting holiness comes through the cleansing of the spirit and flesh. Holiness is not just on the outside, but on the inside as well. Folks might dress modest, but how’s the spirit doing? What are the clues of a spirit that is not modest?

The clues to an improperly, immodest, unholy, scantly dressed human spirit

    *Lack of submission
    *Pride
    *Disobedience
    *Stubbornness
    *Lying

These are just a few signs to see if the ole spirit man is holy or unholy. The more blatant sins are not listed because the people doing those know they are not holy. The sins listed are the hidden sins that most do not render as disqualifying for holiness. When I taught Sunday School, I asked the sanctified, saved, raised on a church pew church teenagers to close their eyes and raise their hands if they had willingly told a lie within a week period and they all raised their hands… The Apostle here is encouraging us all to cleanse our ways and perfect holiness on the outside and also on the inside. WOW

  26. “Therefore, since we have these [great and wonderful] promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, completing holiness [living a consecrated life–a life set apart for God’s purpose] in the fear of God.”
    ‭‭2 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭7:1‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”
    ‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭1:20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The promises from the One True Living God are certain. This is why we must pay special attention to them and listen when He speaks.

Do these promises come without working towards them? No, nothing in life comes without putting effort towards it.

So what must we do? “Cleanse ourselves of all filthiness of the flesh and spirit.”
He is not suggesting you go home and take a shower.
He is speaking of the filth of our minds that seek after fleshly things.

To receive the promises of God must cleanse our minds from filth and walk in holiness!

  27. 4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

Let us respectfully speak the Word of God boldly to one another, uplift one another; comfort on another, and in times of tribulation rejoice together. All of these things are important for unity and for us to continually be transformed by God individually and corporately.

  28. 14 I had told him how proud I was of you—and you didn’t disappoint me. I have always told you the truth, and now my boasting to Titus has also proved true!

Just like any parents, God loves you no matter what. You won’t disappoint God, and will show you the truth. Yes, we may sin, but like parents, God forgives. Just like parents, God will proud of you!

  29. 8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

The book of Proverbs 3:11-12 KJV says, “My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.” There are moments in our lives when God speaks to us it’s not always blessings and exciting promises but correction and conviction. The book of Hebrews 4:12 NLT says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” If the word of God doesn’t convict one every now and then, something is not right within that individual’s heart.

  30. 1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

  31. Sorry , not sorry.
9Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Working with teens on a weekly basis you learn what goes on in their every day lives. For the most part it’s the same thing, friends, school, family, church, the latest Instagram post, here let’s take a selfie, how many “likes” did I get, ect. But on of the most startling comments that I hear far too often is that,” i am depressed, because of…” my first question to the youth is this, what have you been talking to God about in your prayers? What have they been doing to feel that way? In this culture there is a phrase, “sorry, not sorry.” And although it is usually used as a jab in a disrespectfully way. Paul was saying that he was glad that they became sorry to repentance and not sorry to the fact that it happened.
When we are sorry for the things we have done, we are sorry to repentance because then we will repent. However when we are sorry but dont have the understanding of repentance, many would become depressed.

Thank you Jesus that we are in the understanding of His power and forgiveness.

  32. 1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
We must seek to be holy as he is holy, and perfect as he is. We allow God’s word to get in our heart and change us. Allow his spirit to guild us to righteousness.
It should be a daily cleaning of our mind and heart drawing closer to him every day we live.

  33. Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
    2 Corinthians 7:9‭-‬10 NLT
True repentance leads us away from sin and back to God. Like David, there must be a desire to restore right relationship with God. It is more than just feeling bad about a decision but it is a lifestyle change.

  34. Many in the world may express sorrow, though often that sorrow is focused more on getting caught than any sincere desire to charge. There is an important difference, ‘For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.’

True repentance will always involve a change in our part. It’s often seen as a complete turning away from those things that used to so captivate us as we dedicate our lives unto God. That kind of repentance is a sorrow God can work with!

The sorrow of the world over getting caught may keep you away for awhile, but eventually you’re headed right back to where you started… on the road to your own destruction. That’s why we need a sorrow that leads to repentance to get us on a different path!

Notice however, that God’s sorrow which leads us to repentance is not something we later sorrow over. We don’t turn around or away from his work and calling upon our lives. He expects our hands to remain on the plow! Let his sorrow so change your life that you find the joy of laboring in his kingdom!

  35. 1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

It takes work. Cleaning like one cleans his/her room takes discipline and effort. No one is gonna do it for you they can only tell you. But one must get the tools necessary and do it. Remove what is not of good use and wipe down areas that have become unclean. Our souls are a temple a room for the Spirit of God how much more should we take care of His temple. Ensure its kept clean and adequate for the King.

  36. 3 I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

I thought it was more than interesting that the apostle writes die before he writes live. The revelation is simple but altogether profound and essential in its nature. We must know how to die, repent, before we can really live. If we have a heart of repentance it makes for a merciful nature that can love and forgive those we love with. So yes we must die before we can live in peace in the Kingdom. The first shall be last and the last first, it is a Kingdom principle.

  37. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
    2 Corinthians 7:10 NLT

There is a pulling away from, or separation of self from sin when we reach that point in our repentence

  38. “With promises like this to pull us on, dear friends, let’s make a clean break with everything that defiles or distracts us, both within and without. Let’s make our entire lives fit and holy temples for the worship of God.”
    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:1‬ ‭MSG‬‬

We have been called to be set apart. We have been called to be holy as He is Holy. Let us seek Him first in al we do and to bring Him glory. As we put Him first he will reveal what must be removed from our lives.

  39. God’s love is so powerful. Because he loves us he gives us another chance. As flesh we will make mistakes, but that doesn’t mean that all hope is lost. God forgives and gives us strength. The enemy has no power over you as long as you remember that you have power over him and obey God’s word.
