Philippians 1

Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,

For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

13 So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;

14 And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.

23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.

29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

  1. 20For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. (NLT)

    I hope that in everything I do for the kingdom I can do it with everything that is within me. My prayer for the church in this hour is to be full of zeal, passion, and purpose. We have to maintain a Holy Ghost boldness like never before.

    Paul began to preach to the Church of Rome in chapter 1:
    16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

    My prayer is to be never ashame of the gospel of Jesus Christ no matter how difficult it may seem to be while walking with Jesus. I always have preached one person with a passion and purpose for the things of the kingdom than 99 with just a cause. We have to P.U.S.H. until Jesus comes for his church.

    Pray until something happens!
    Provide until something happens!
    Praise until something happens!
    Proclaim until something happens!

    I love the Kingdom!

  2. Staying encouraged in our walk with Christ toward growing more like him may seem like a daunting task for some. However one can rest assure from verse 6, that fulfilling that goal will not be by your own ability, but by the power of the Holy Spirit, which will develop your Godly character.

  3. Philippians 1:6 & 27-28 (nlt)
    6) And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

    27) Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.
    28) Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself.

    POFW – God, who began the good work within us, will continue His work until it is finally finished.
    We must STAND TOGETHER with One spirit and One purpose, FIGHTING TOGETHER for the Faith of the Gospel. We must NOT be intimidated in any way by our enemies.

    POFW – God is not finished with us. He is still working within us.
    Let’s STAND TOGETHER and FIGHT TOGETHER for the Faith of the Gospel.

    Remember: GOD is Fighting for Us – GOD is on Our Side!

  4. 5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
    6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
    7 Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

  5. 5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
    6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

    We have come too far and I’ve done too much to stop now. God has brought us through things that does likely have hurt us more if you’re not intervened, no matter how tough things get we must keep our head in the game and continue this walk of righteousness and faith

  6. 7 Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

    8 For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

    9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

    10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

    I Love how Paul is in prison, and faithfully he is sending out these letters. and some letters are correction, but some are admiration, love and Encouragement, even after he gives them a word of correction, he gives them encouragement, he truly was a man that had developed the knowledge and understanding that the foundation of a relationship with Jesus was LOVE! He corrected with Love. he served with Love and he preached, taught, and encouraged with love! Our Pastor has developed the same attributes, hes all about the heart of Jesus. What I love the most is Paul is in prison and he is still about the ministry of Jesus, hes still Correcting, encouraging, and loving! Where does that passion come from, how does he stay the course, Who is encouraging him? when I would have been all discouraged! I beleive he looked at his situation, circumstances! And he CHOSE to give God all the Glory, he Chose to instead of being defeated, to be VICTORIOUS, He decided within his heart to give it all to God and praise him through his circumstance! I have to ask my self, how would I be if I was in prison in this day and age, without anyone encouraging me, or supporting me, where would my integrity take me? Will I throw in the towel, or will I lift my hands and let God have all the Glory, and surrender it all to him? What I do in my life now, can be an indication of how I would handle it then!

  7. Philippians 1
    6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

    Paul was confident that through the power of the Holy Ghost that the Young Christians would continue to mature and grow spiritually in their walk with God. He does not even question them with will they continue but he says he was confident that God would help them. Being confident in the power of the Holy Ghost. New babes in Christ will mature maybe not at the pace we want but if we continue to build up their confidence in Giod and in theirself growth comes. Encouragement that they will be able to withstand the firey darts of the enemy. Too many times we tear apart what God is doing in someone’s life by lack of confidence. Most people who began to even acknowledge that God dies live them lack confidence in self and others let alone confidence in a God they cannot see. What s true leadership Paul shows us here by proclaiming His confidence was assured in God that He would complete the work He has began. We need to build up and not tear down. Look at what young Christians are doing and encourage how to accomplish it achieve higher heights in Jesus. Yes even in my own walk of 50 years in the Holy Ghost I too have to be reminded when my own confidence fails I have confidence in Jesus Christ who started a wirk in me will finish the work in me. I have confidence in Jesus Christ.

    Joshua 1:9
    “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

    Isaiah 41:10
    ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

  8. 15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

    So many times in life we find that there are people around us that are so jealous of what we have, that they try to outdo us.

  9. iLove the Kingdom
    ‘Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. ‘

    Philippians 1:15-18

    This is the scripture that should teach us all not to judge preachers and their motives for preaching the gospel. Paul confirms here that many preachers preach for many different reasons, but to him it doesnt matter the reason just as long as the gospel is preached. Ultimately God is judge and every man shall receive judgement in the future for their motives.

  10. 27 Only [be sure to] lead your lives in a manner [that will be] worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I do come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit [and one purpose], with one mind striving side by side [as if in combat] for the faith of the gospel. (AMP)

    The way we act or react should not depend on who’s around. The Kingdom should be first and remain first in every aspect of our lives, in or out of church. His Kingdom and the salvation of souls is what matters first and foremost; and whether we believe it or not our actions and words, both in and out of church, effect that goal.

  11. Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.
    Philippians 1:27 NLT

    Jesus, thank you for our lives that are a testimony of Your Good News. Thank you for calling us together to work in unity.

  12. Life is unfair

    12-14 I want to report to you, friends, that my imprisonment here has had the opposite of its intended effect. Instead of being squelched, the Message has actually prospered. All the soldiers here, and everyone else, too, found out that I’m in jail because of this Messiah. That piqued their curiosity, and now they’ve learned all about him. Not only that, but most of the followers of Jesus here have become far more sure of themselves in the faith than ever, speaking out fearlessly about God, about the Messiah.

    Life in general is fair and unjust to everyone all at the same time. I know it sounds crazy. However, the most powerful prayer warrior will still wake up on Monday morning and have a flat on their car, a washing machine that floods the house and loved ones who make poor decisions. The difference is for those who love and serve God have the power to overcome and turn the circumstance to a testimony.

    Do we allow our circumstances to overrule the possible testimony? How can our current situation glorify God? Paul is in jail. How can God get glory from Paul being in jail? Paul did not allow his imprisonment to rule his faith and draw his focus to his limitations. Rather, he maintained his focus on God, trusted God and allowed the situation to develop.

  13. 29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

    30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

    God wants us to be not of sin but of SPIRIT. Thank you JESUS.

  14. Philippians 1: 29 -30 For you have been granted the privilege for Christ’s sake not only to believe in
    [ adhere to rely on, and trust in] Him, but also to suffer in His behalf. [30] So you are engaged in the same conflict which you saw me [ wage] and which you now hear to be mine [ still]. For I am your God, Do not fear anything or worry about what going in this world. For My is my protecter and provider . Stand firm for the Salvation of the Lord is hear. All ready matters is God’s Kingdom and souls. And to be ready for his coming. For I will pick up my cross and follow him . I love Jesus!

  15. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    KINGDOM CONVERSATION

    27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

    Words are such a powerful piece of the work of the gospel. The scripture tells us that life and death are in the tongue. When we consider the power of the tounge and the words we speak, we are called and compelled by the Gospel of JESUS.

    Conversation is built by words spoken and words heard. For this reason we guard our ears and mouth. JESUS will judge us by every idle word spoken. Some use the carnal mindset of its my house and I can say what I want, yes you are entitled to say what you want, but I encourage you to remember that you will give account or answer to JESUS.

    The account we will give is this: is our conversation as it becometh of the Gospel of Christ? Let us remember that our conversation is to be edifying of HIS Kingdom and those in HIS Kingdom.

  16. AMP – 12 Now I want you to know, [a]believers, that what has happened to me [this imprisonment that was meant to stop me] has actually served to advance [the spread of] the good news [regarding salvation].

    Our testimony is the greatest tool we have for witnessing. The expressions of joy while going through a test/trial sends a message that we are content in whatever state we are in, and that the testing of our faith is working patience, power, and anointing in our lives in a deeper measure.

    Here we see the account of Paul rejoicing in prison because the gospel is being spread inspite of the fact that he remains in prison.

    Too many people wear their feelings on their shoulders and if they are in the middle of a test, everyone and their brother knows it by their actions and attitude. If only we can learn how to represent JESUS well in every situation. Our attitude determines how soon the trial is over, so we must learn to rejoice always and in everythign give thanks.

  17. 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

    We see many come and go from the church. It is heart wrenching to see them go. But when a prodigal returns we have joy again. We have to be sure to do what God has called us to do in witnessing, living and loving but at the end of the day it is Jesus himself that saves them, not us. We have to really learn how o put them all in Jesus’ hands. This is not a scapegoat to do nothing but really trust in God to do what his will is. More than anything I want my family to be saved but because of my relationship with Jesus and positioning in the church I could have a bigger role in pushing them away from Christ than my part in bringing them to him. We must do what we are called to do and let God do what only he can do. Be patient and let God. We never know what path someone actually has to go to be saved, but God does. He has begun the good work, He will also finish it.

  18. And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
    Philippians 1:6 NLT
    What an awesome promise that God will complete what He started in us. ” He’s still working on me to make me what I ought to be…”. I am glad He does not quit when we mess up. Like the old Dan Dean song, ” He won’t give up easy, you’re forever on His mind. He won’t give up easy, He’s just not the quitting kind!”

  19. And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
    Philippians 1:28 KJV

    For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
    2 Timothy 1:7 KJV

    There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
    1 John 4:18 KJV

    But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
    Revelation 21:8 KJV

    Fear is a sign that we are not where we are supposed to be in our relationship with God. When we learn to truly trust in Him (believing that He is always for us, always in control, and always working for our good), then we have nothing in this life to fear. Whether we live or die, we are kept by Him.

  20. 20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

    21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

    22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.

    I want and choose to live in Christ and not live in the flesh.

  21. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

    Life is about knowing God and making Him known. We glorify Him and praise Jesus. When we die, if we walked a righteous path and gave it our all in serving Jesus, we will receive the promise of God.

  22. I Love To Worship The Lord
    Preaching out of envy and rivalry (1:15)
    We may well emulate Pauls attitude.even if someones motive for doing good is to embarrass us or show us up lets rejoice in the good that is done. God will judge the motives

  23. 27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

    Speak the good things of God. Let our conversation be about Him. Let all who hear that Jesus is the way to life. He is the answer to lives questions.

  24. 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
    Are we being filled today with the fruit of God the word righteousness (from 1342; equity (of character or act); specially (Christian) justification:–righteousness.)
    How is our fruits? Are they reflectin Jesus? Is Jesus shining through us without Jesus we are not clean righteousness but it though him we we can live a clean and righteous life. We put on Christ and his characteristics we no longer live for this world but for him.
    It starts will being filled with him EVERYDAY! Everyday day Jesus every day putting on him and what he wants. We should pray the prayer that Jesus prayed in Matthew 6: 9-10 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it in heaven
    We should be praying for what he wants and for want he wants us to do for the day instead of what we want.

  25. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

    10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

    11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

  26. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

    Live is Christ, die is gain

    To have an understanding that when we are truly living is to be in Christ, so that when we die we gain the eternal life that we so long for. I long to be with Him forever. Death is a natural part of life, yet when we die to the flesh we gain life everlasting.

    Thank God for the blood that wash us as white as snow.

  27. “Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.”
    ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1:27‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    We are not of this world. We must live as citizens of heaven. There is a higher standard of living for the Children of God. There’s more to life than this sinful world and we can tap into a new dimension in heavenly places.

  28. 27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

    Unity. We must all speak the same things whether we are glorifying the Lord or reaching for the lost.

  29. When we talk about Jesus it doesn’t reAlly matter if we are doing it to promote ourselves or him, he gets the glory. When our motives are pure and he gets all the glory is when it is most effective.

  30. 3 Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. 4 Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy.

    When you pray do so with joy and sincerity. Your prayer will be answered when you least expect. Praying just because someone tells you too, or while your angry or not being sincere, is doing so unwillingly. Just like God loves a cheerful giver, he loves a cheerful prayer.

  31. Verses 3-5 MSG “Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart. I am so pleased that you have continued on in this with us, believing and proclaiming God’s Message, from the day you heard it right up to the present.” Let us continue to pray for one another as we reach for this city and put First the Kingdom.

  32. 12. I have good news, brothers and sisters; and I want to share it. Believe it or not, my imprisonment has actually helped spread the good news to new places and populations.

    13. Word has spread through the ranks of the imperial guard and to everyone else around me that I am in prison because of my faith in the Anointed One.

    14. My imprisonment has instilled courage in most of our brothers and sisters, so they are trusting God more and have been even more daring as they speak the good news without fear. Voice

    Our struggles and trials are not always about us – sure, He turns our tests into testimonies, but sometimes our test is for someone else’s testimony. God knows what we are strong enough to endure, and if it helps someone else make it through, it will be worth it in the end.
