Hebrews 5

For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

  1. So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

  2. So Jesus Christ in God name holy be thy name, Christ glorious be made a high priest that said unto him thou art my son have I begotten thee

  3. Verses 11-14 NIV “Warning Against Falling Away” is what these verses are captioned. We must heed the warnings of these verses “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” If you don’t use IT you can lose IT.

Hebrews 6:1 CEV “We must try to become mature and start thinking about more than just the basic things we were taught about Christ. We shouldn’t need to keep talking about why we ought to turn from deeds that bring death and why we ought to have faith in God.”

2 Peter 3:18 AMP “but grow [spiritually mature] in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory (honor, majesty, splendor), both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”

  4. Hebrews 5:8-9, 11-14

Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.

  5. For though by this time you ought to be teachers [because of the time you have had to learn these truths], you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God’s word [from the beginning], and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food. For everyone who lives on milk is [doctrinally inexperienced and] unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant. But solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.

It’s funny how people can know the bible verse for verse, but can’t break it down. I know that I’m still learning and there is always something new to learn. You can even learn something different from the same chapter. I know; cause I read Jude daily for a month and got something new from it everyday. It’s a challenge to read the same thing over and over, but with growth comes the ability begin to further understand His word. Also with the right teaching I can learn God’s word. This is where going from a babe to and adult is crucial. I don’t want to stay where I’m at in God. That would be senseless; what good will I be to somebody hungry for the word if I can’t understand half of what I’m reading. I know that I have grown, but am I strong enough to teach. Not yet, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t start to become a teacher of God’s word. I know that there are areas that I need to become stronger in. I thank you Jesus for growing me in your word.

  6. Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
    Hebrews 5:8‭-‬9 KJV
    https://bible.com/bible/1/heb.5.8-9.KJV

Even Jesus had to learn obedience. he came from a throne to a womb, and he grew up like a child would, it was Mary and Joseph’s responsibility to teach him to a point, but the rest, God took care of. Enable for him to relate to us, he had to start from the beginning and even experience death, but death didn’t stop him! I try to think of how he must of been as a child, and I think was he the ideal child, was it always yes maam and yes sir and that’s it? or was it yes maam and yes sir with a mumble and grumble? he experienced life the way we have, he went through a life that was not fit for a king and he didn’t die a hero or receive a hero’s burial, but in obedience he did what he was destined to do, he went through the worst with victory in mind, he knew the impact his death and burial and resurrection would have on the future, so in the midst of pain, ridicule, and selflessness he allowed himself to be punished for nothing, it was his own call, his own decision, and he could have said no, he could have backed out, but he was obedient to the will and plan for his life! That is true obedience and Love!

  7. 11There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. 12You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.c You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.(NLT)

I think that we as seasoned saints, we make more mistakes with trying to win souls to the kingdom of God. We get folks filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized in the name of Jesus, and many want the new converts to be instantly changed into season saints. They need to learn to crawl before they can stand. They must learn to stand before they can even walk. They must be able to walk before they can run. The very essence that we think we can change people over night causes a false sense of security in the kingdom and many of our spiritual babies are aborted and they don’t stick with learning the things of the kingdom.

I find that many of us get frustrated because we get burned out on being used and abused by those that we are trying to witness to and we tend to just sit back and do nothing. Many forget that it is a great privilege to be used in any capacity in the kingdom. Sometimes we need to get back to the basics of teaching these folks to pray, how to fast, and how to have the proper relationship with Jesus Christ. We are in the last days and our time is running out. We need not worry, our labor will not be in vain if we seek first the kingdom of God. We must be about the king’s business, building the kingdom. Many of us need to call in love with Jesus all over again.

    I love the Kingdom!

  8. 4. And no one can become a high priest simply because he wants such an honor. He must be called by God for this work, just as Aaron was.

    5. That is why Christ did not honor himself by assuming he could become High Priest. No, he was chosen by God, who said to him, “You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.”

    6. And in another passage God said to him, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” NLT

    Some were called,
    Some were sent,
Some just got up and went.

I used to hear someone mention this saying when they had heard someone try to preach that it seemed had neither ability nor anointing, as was evidenced by their results.

    2 Peter 1:
    8. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    10. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

  9. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

not only do we need to be careful what we are teaching we need to be careful we are teaching you do. There are people that cannot handle certain things just yet because they are babes in Christ and then there are people who need to grow up and have more meat in their teachings. As we mature in Christ it is vital that we begin to take on more responsibility and learn things that will build us up And draw us closer to Christ.

  10. You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.
    Hebrews 5:12 NLT

The longer we are in this walk, this marriage with Christ there should be something to show for it. Just like with any marriage, relationship, job, etc. You will be able to handle harder situations because you have been trained and have worked in that relationship to produce what’s needed. Marriage we work to build trust, respect, build a family and a home. Job you build rapport, work relationships, you train hard and work hard to move up, etc. I love the phrase that the Church is a War Vessel! We are at war. We can’t afford to take up room on a pew! People are dying in this world. Jesus is the only solution. They have the problem. We have the answer. Now let’s put it in ACTION! WAR CRY!!!!

  11. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

We not only need to study the Word and pray for ourselves, but also so that we are more able to share the Gospel with others. also, in this present time it is important to line up everything with the Word and discern what the truth should be.

  12. Hebrews 5:5-6 (Amp) So too Christ ( the Messiah) did not exalt Himself to be made a high priest but appointed and exalted by Him Who said to Him, You are My Son; Today I have begotten You.
[ Ps. 2:7] I will declare the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, You are My Son; this day ( I declare) I have begotten You. For when He was invested with honer and glory from God the Father and a voice was borne to him by the [ splended] Majestic Glory
[ in the bright cloud that over shadowed Him, saying]. This is My beloved Son in Whose I am well please and delight. We have a prophetic word
[ made] former still. You do well to pay attention to it as a lamp shining in a dark place until the day breaks through [ the gloom] and the Morning Star rises [ comes into being] in your hearts. This is the day that the Lord has made and I will be glad in it.

  13. Hebrews 5

11 Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in [your spiritual] hearing and disinclined to

Father keep our ears keen . Rid us of the wax build up from this world of carnality. Cleanse our minds so our ears can hear your voice. Rid us of distractions so we do not miss what you have to say. Help me to daily come with attentiveness expectation and willingness to hear what Thus Saith the Lord”
My nephew has accused me several times that I wasn’t listening I always reassure him I have been by repeating just what he has spoken to me. We have to keep our hearing sharp and stay attentive to what God is saying . Full attention . The senses become dull and if the ears are not cleansed they too can lose their ability to hear. We must be cautious at what we allow into our ears lest we lose our spiritual hearing. God does speak will I hear? The choice is mine.

    John 10:27
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

    Jeremiah 33:3
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

    John 14:16-17 ESV

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

  14. 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Before us, now and after us it will always be you JESUS!!! AUTHOR AND FINISHER of my faith you are my DADDY and I love you!!!

    Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Thank you DADDY for your mercy!!!

  15. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

For the same reason that iyou would not send a toddler out to battle with a loaded gun, it is unwise to follow those in this walk that have never been through anything. Those that we follow should have a testimony and know the voice of God. Someone said that you can never trust a preacher without a limp because every great man of God has been through something.

  16. 1 Every high priest is a man chosen to represent other people in their dealings with God. He presents their gifts to God and offers sacrifices for their sins.

We the leaders of the church, we have been chosen by God, through Pastor, to represent our church, our congregation and our community. We are responsible to meet our commitments, our duties and meet our goals of the church. Lets serve our God and the Kingdom wholeheartedly.

Numbers 18:3 They (We) are to fulfill their (our) duties to you and their responsibilities for the Tent (church).

  17. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

I love to eat the Word.

As I have grown in my relationship with God. Many things are not the same. I continue to grow in understanding and knowledge of Him. But what I know now, I didnt when I first started. As a baby drinks milk for nutrition, I started off by reading a verse or two, and the understanding that Jesus loves me. But as I matured in my walk, I changed from mold to meat, by now feeling the responsibility of helping lead a ministry, and loving those that need to be loved.
Not everyone is on the same level in their maturity with their walk with God, and that’s great!!!! Because that means we are growing. A growing church should be comprised of new believers, some that are in leadership, and others who have an elder status in the Spirit. The Kingdom of God is made up of many people.

Thank you Pastor for the revelation that you have taught, that it’s about the souls. Everyone needs to hear this message.
    First the Kigdom of God.

  18. While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.
    Hebrews 5:7‭-‬8 NLT

Interesting. Even Jesus suffered and had to learn to obey the voice of God. How much more should we! Simple thought, yet like the end of the chapter says, we should be mature enough to handle strong meat, but many lack and still need milk. Study to show thyself approved, get in the Word and know Him. Learn to obey even in times of suffering just like Jesus did, learn faithfulness.

  19. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
    Hebrews 5:13‭-‬14 KJV

There are some that choose not to grow up(spiritually). Still turning to what GOD has redeemed them from. I understand that all grow differently but after decades of reading the word of God. We should be mature enough to obey His voice. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

  20. Is there something in my eye?

1-3 Every high priest selected to represent men and women before God and offer sacrifices for their sins should be able to deal gently with their failings, since he knows what it’s like from his own experience. But that also means that he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins as well as the peoples’.

As we direct our ministries, teach and lead people towards God we cannot forget we are simple humans who are also sinners saved by His grace. I realize this text is dealing more with Pastors, but we can break it down to fit a non-pastor. Life has a way of surprising us. Some things happen just because we are humans on earth. Other things are allowed to happen to us to prepare us for the future. Our paths are going to cross with someone who needs a word of encouragement from someone who has first-hand experience with a situation. Empathy will not suffice.

So, before we look down our holy judgmental nose at someone who is struggling, let’s make sure we don’t have a timber in our own eyes.

Matthew 7:1-5 Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.

  21. 12 You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.[c] You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.

Lord help us! As leaders we should be teaching those babies the Word of God, how to put their faith into action, Gods love, compassion, etc. Like Pastor has been preaching to us we need to put it into action. It’s beautiful to see a soul that you have been teaching grasp the Word and put it into action, receive the HG, and to be baptized. We give no one the salvation but we sure can be a vessel and let God use us. Let us help those babies eat the Word so they can grow up also and teach others. We all can help someone spiritually (children or adult).

  22. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    THE FRUIT OF HEARING

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

There are hundreds and maybe even thousands of sounds that we hear in a single day. But what sound do we hear most, pay attention to the most, respond to the most, value the most?

I would suggest based on this passage that the most valued is the one we respond to FIRST and MOST. This is what the apostle is identifying in this passage. There are deeper things of GOD, but since you are dull of hearing or as the NLT says:

11 There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen.

People who do not grow spiritually can be narrowed down as we have learned here in Hebrews to 2 major frailties.

    1. Unbelief
    2. Dull Hearing

    Dull of Hearing

Dull – 3576. nothros; from a derivative of 3541; sluggish, i.e. (literally) lazy, or (figuratively) stupid: — dull, slothful.

Hearing – 189. akoe; from 191; hearing (the act, the sense or the thing heard): — audience, ear, fame, which ye heard, hearing, preached, report, rumor.

    191. akouo; a primary verb; to hear (in various senses): — give (in the) audience (of), come (to the ears), (shall) hear(-er, -ken), be noised, be reported, understand.

THE FRUIT OF HEARING is the fact that we begin to apply what we hear. This is the reason some people remain at their current level of spiritual maturity. The refuse to act on the disciplines and instructions given by GOD through spiritual leaders.

Pride is the major hinderance to THE FRUIT OF HEARING. Being repeatedly instructed to do the same thing over and over. Remember, Naham was required to dip 7 times in Jordan, Peter was instructed to throw the net in again on the other side and the most important revelation to receive is the servant who was sent to find and see a cloud 7 times. 2 of the 3 were instructions given by a spiritual leader.

When we Listen and Obey the voices (sounds) GOD has placed in our lives, then we will find ourselves Spiritually Growing, Maturing to the place of hearing and receiving the deeper things of GOD.

  23. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

As Christians we need to do more than just read the Bible but instead study so that we may grow in the love of Christ and be a better witness for his Kingdom.

  24. iLove the Kingdom in Action
Hebrews 5:2  Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

This is a great scripture to prove what many throughout history have struggled to understand. Notice at the end of the verse it refers to the high priest ministering being “compassed with infirmity”. Now yall know, according to the law the high priest could not minister if they were diseased or sick. This word “infirmity” in context is “weakness” and most all other places found in the KJV is referring to “weakness”. The weakness is of course the frailty of our humanity with the sin involved. If you read this verse in the NLT you will find it says “weakness”. Why is this important…because many folks try to use the word infirmity to refer to sickness. The word indeed can refer to sickness, but in the context we can see this is not the case in this scripture as well as others.

  25. 7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

Now this is a Cry head in the dark.

Psalm 56:8 New Living Translation (NLT)
8 You keep track of all my sorrows.[a]
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.

God takes note of every sincere cry and tear we offer. He knows how to deliver us from darkness and death. HE HEARS US!!

1 John 5:14 “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”

Psalm 66:19 “But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer.”

John 9:31 “We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.”

1 Peter 3:12 “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

From the moment we make up our mind to move from the road of unrighteousness to righteousness we capture the attention of God. Let us go today in confidence that the power of God is with us and He is here to hear us. We are seated with Him in heavenly places. We are to declare and decree from that heavenly seat what is needed upon the earth at this moment! We are anointed!

    First The Kingdom
Then The Anointing and the Declaring!

  26. 4 And no one can become a high priest simply because he wants such an honor. He must be called by God for this work, just as Aaron was. NLT

In order to mature in ministry, there has to be a desire. A desire to be more in Jesus. Not a desire to be honored more by man.

It is easy to identify who is seeking honor from Man vs God in their roles of ministry. And at times every leader has to ensure they are serving due to being called by God, not seeking the honor of man.

5 Questions to Ask Yourself as a Leader?

1.) Do you measure your success by what you see and feel in the moment? (eg. If other’s don’t appreciate what you’ve done or your ministry isn’t flourishing, it must be a failure and not worth continuing.

2.) Do you persevere in doing good and find joy in serving Christ, even when it isn’t glamorous and goes unappreciated?

3.) When others praise you, do you begin to feel self-confident in your own abilities, rather than relying on the Lord to lead and provide?

4.) When others praise you, do you feel genuinely humbled, undeserving, and overwhelmed by God’s grace in your life?

5.) Do you extend grace and forgiveness to those around you, seeking unity in Christ, rather than self-protection and justice?

Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

As leaders, we must be able to discern between the good of serving for The Kingdom or serving for the momentary honor of man.

  27. 2 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

It’s time for the People, anointed of God to grow up into maturity and begin to teach and disciples others. There are too many sitting and not doing. Where would we be if someone had not been mature in the Lord enough to share the word of God and disciple us. Reciprocity completes a full circle, you learn, you teach, and then those you teach, learn and teach others. Let’s not break the circle, keep it moving, keep learning, keep teaching, keep doing, keep growing, keep discipling.

  28. Hebrews 5:11 (nlt)
“There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen.” (dull of hearing – kjv).

When someone is dull of hearing / don’t seem to listen, this usually means they are not interested and don’t want to hear it.
When someone is not interested in or not wanting to hear what the Word of God has to say, this becomes a spiritual problem.
WATCH OUT when the Word of God starts seeming dull to you and you don’t want to hear it.

  29. “Who can HAVE COMPASSION on the IGNORANT, and on them that are out of the way…”
    Hebrews 5:2 KJV

“And he is able to DEAL GENTLY with IGNORANT and WAYWARD people because he himself is subject to the same weaknesses.”
    Hebrews 5:2 NLT

    “…DEAL GENTLY with those who…are GOING ASTRAY…”
    Hebrews 5:2 HCSB

“…should be able to DEAL GENTLY WITH THEIR FAILINGS, since he knows what it’s like from his own experience. ”
    Hebrews 5:2 MSG

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
    1 John 1:8 KJV

“Then his Lord…said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?”
    Matthew 18:32‭-‬33 KJV

“Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”
    Jude 1:21‭-‬23 KJV

How do we treat difficult people? Ignorant, wayward people? Those who are constantly failing and are going, or have gone, astray? How do we treat those who don’t know this truth or have refused to hear it from us?

The true test of love is found in our attitudes toward these. Are we critical, judgmental, self-righteous toward those who have failed? Are we put out, impatient with, or have a can’t-be-bothered attitude toward difficult, slow-to-learn, and ever-failing people? Are we compassionate and gentle towards those who forever seek our counsel but never take our advice?

Aren’t we to bless those who curse us, do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who use us? Didn’t Jesus point out that even sinners love easy people? God has called us, however, to a higher love: to love our enemies, our backsliders, our time-wasters; to love those with deaf ears, hard hearts, and sinful lifestyles; to love the poor, the addicts, and the hypocrites. Who can we justifiably leave off this list?

We must always remember that we were once (and probably still are) difficult—hard to love—people. We were never chosen because we were easy, because we were good, or because we had something of value to offer the Kingdom. No…we were loved when we were unlovable. Wanted when there was nothing desirable in us. Washed when we languished in our own polluted blood—filthy, destitute, and without hope in this world.

Now, are we washed by His blood, sanctified by His Spirit, justified by His grace. Freely we have received. Ought not we to freely give? Lavishly we have been loved. Ought not we to bear long with, be compassionate and gentle-hearted toward, the difficult others that Jesus also loves? They are waiting to be plucked up out of the filth and the mire. Shouldn’t we be willing to get a little dirty? They are waiting to be forcibly pulled out of the fire. Are we afraid that we might get a little burnt?

They are out there. The ignorant. The wayward. The going astray. The failing. The lost. They are ours to claim, to be gentle towards, to love. If we be His children, then we must live by His commands.

“And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but BE GENTLE UNTO ALL MEN, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth,” (2 Timothy 2:24‭-‬25 KJV).

  30. 1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

I’m thankful for a Pastor who has compassion on the lost, even those that oppose their own selves. Teaching the word clearly and even repetitively is needed many times so the word can penetrate hard hearts or closed minds. Pastor has noted on occasion that he preaches to himself first, then to us. That to me is keeping these verses, knowing we are all flesh and until we make heaven we all must keep growing and learning.

  31. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

    Are you maturing?

When a baby is first born, milk is all they are able to have. But at some point they grow to the point of being able to eat from the the table.

Maturing is obviously a process. You don’t go from milk to meat in one day.

Our walk with God is a process, there should be a continual maturing. You can’t stay a baby forever.

The mature Christian is marked by their discernment and by their unshakable commitment to Jesus. The ability to discern is a critical measure of spiritual maturity. Babies will put anything in their mouth. Spiritual babies are weak in discernment, and will accept any kind of spiritual food.

Babies learn to walk by practice and habit. By getting up each time the fall and trying again. We learn discernment in the same way. We have to exercise it by putting it to use!

    It is time to GROW!

  32. “You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:12-14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Have you become a babe? Perhaps you are fussy and cranky with others. Babies can be cranky, and spiritual babes will fuss over any little thing.

  33. “You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wow… I’ve never given a bible study to anyone. Sad to say but if we are not out there teaching others the apostle is right to call us babies.
We are in critical times, there is so many lost souls out there and no one to take them the message of salvation.

    Ephesians 4:11-16
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, …

    Mathew 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

  34. I Love To Worship The Lord
    (vs-14)
You will never be able to eat solid spiritual food and understand the deeper things of Gods Word until you become better Christians and learn right from wrong by practicing doing right
Maturity is translated (made perfect above) These verses show how we achieve spiritual maturity. As we trace trials we constantly seek to understand them in the light of Gods Word and apply Scripture to make wise and godly choices

  35. “In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:12‬

Failure to study God’s word daily is like failure to learn your ABC’s as a child. How can you grow and excel if you don’t even have the basic fundamentals down?…You can’t. You’re literally choosing to spiritually stay in kindergarten while everyone else around you moves on to the next level.

    Hebrews 5:11‭-‬14 NLT

It’s almost like helping your child with algebra you’ve learned it you know the material but you haven’t used it in so long that you have become dull in it. Use the word of God daily, read it, study it, be evolved in it. Grow spiritually never let yourself be content with just knowing scripture, apply it to everything you do. It’s funny I tell patients all the time if you of you don’t use it you lose it. The same applies here, if you don’t use the spirit you lose it, it becomes dull in your system. There is no growth it simply becomes or stays in its infant state where you become dependent on others to feed and nurture it. So are you going to grow up and spiritually be able to handle your battles or are you going to continue seeking others to hold your hand? Grow in spirit grow in wisdom and constantly grow in faith.

  37. From this chapter I leaned that God will love you no matter what. It doesn’t matter what you have been through and what you have done, he will always love you and forever more. God love all his children the same , he knows what is right for us and why it’s right. We always have to trust and believe what he has planned for us. We shouldn’t question God and what he has planned, all we need to do is rejoice and be glad for what he has planned in stored. Trust and believe POFW!!😁😁😁👍🏾

  38. “Jesus is God’s own Son, but still he had to suffer before he could learn what it really means to obey God.”(Hebrews‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭CEV‬‬)

Jesus’ death was all His plan so that everyone that comes to him can gain revelation of his love for us. We can learn from how Jesus had to suffer for us to endure and obey the will and Word of God. Our obedience will reveal our love for God. “In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was truly God.”(John‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭CEV‬‬)

  39. You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.
    Hebrews 5:12 NLT
Here is one reason why we should be teaching others;. We learn the basics so we don’t have to be taught it again. It also brings spiritual maturity as we are exercised in the Word. We also learn to feed ourselves. One Pastor we had was shown a vision by God of his congregation all drinking from baby bottles. He knew then that he had to equip them to teach others.

  40. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

Be teachers! Gotta start on milk and grow to meat. Study and grow in reading the word of God.

  41. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

  43. Hebrews 5:13,14 For every one that Useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Isaiah 7:15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

  44. 7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
    8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
    9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

    The thing so
Many of us miss is that we MUST obey His Word, just as He did.

  45. 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him

Eternal salvation was something the Jews prayed would come through the prophesied Messiah to save their people. The funny thing only few could recognize when the Son of God, Jesus, walked before them. If we love Jesus then obeying him will display it to him and others.

He always taught the kingdom first then demonstrated it to the people so they could understand. For instance, In heaven their is no sickness, war, death, sorrow, nor hunger. Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead. With his death, Jesus conquered the grave. In his burial, we are baptized in the likeness. After resurrecting he gave a gift of the Holy Ghost we have now today. To live is to gain for the church here on earth and to die is to gain eternal life.

  46. 1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

We need to offer our commitment to God for everything he has done for us! Jesus paid the ultimate price and we can’t out-give God, but we need to do the best we can in giving our all to him! Yeah

  47. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
    Hebrews 5:12‭-‬14 NKJV

There needs to be growth and maturity in your spiritual life. One cannot stay in the same place for ever for that’s a sign of not having life. Even a tree which is planted grown Up and to the sides and becomes stronger that is able to withstand the seasons and the weather. Our walk with God needs to be one that has constant growth. When I was I child I thought as a child said Paul…but when he became a man, he put away childish things. What was interesting then is not the same thing as now. You mature in you thought process and how you deal with life.

  48. I learned “That is why Christ did not honor himself by assuming he could become High Priest. No, he was chosen by God, who said to him

  49. “Every high priest is a man chosen to represent other people in their dealings with God. He presents their gifts to God and offers sacrifices for their sins.”
    ‭‭

Don’t try to be a high priest if your not chosen by god to be one

  50. 11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

I find it very interesting and funny that the Bible basically said someone was “hard of hearing”. I didn’t realize where this had originated. It cracked me up to read it. There’s nothing new under the sun.

  51. 2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

Many people need to see the love of Jesus through us as we have compassion on other people who need it.
